Great Planes Reactor 50cc Restoration Part 1 (Exposing the airframe)

- In this video I have the Great Planes Reactor 50cc which I will be removing the old Monokote covering to expose the airframe and inspect the wood structure for flight worthiness. I will show how I remove Robart pinned hinges from the control surfaces with minimal wood material removal. I also made necessary repairs to the airframe where needed. All this so that I can recover the entire model in a different color scheme and pattern and then ultimately outfit the model when done with new electronics and new engine which I will showcase in future episodes of this refurbishing series. So if you like content like this please consider SUBSCRIBING to the channel and do me a favor and click that LIKE button so that I could continue putting out videos in the future. Please leave a comment regarding the video so that I will know what I could improve or showcase. Thank you very much enjoy the video.

What a cool project! Such a fun airplane, it’s got to feel great to give it a new life.
Yes! For quite sometime I have always been thinking of getting this model back in the air. So this year 2024 I decided to make it happen.
I still like to throw on your videos while i work in the workshop. I like your hinge removal. Ive never had to remove robarts. Now i know how!!:)
Right on! Reason why I love doing what I do. Plus no sense in keeping all this knowledge and experience to myself. The hobby has been great to me for well over 41 years and I will always remember where I started and how back in the 80's learning this hobby through trial and error or from others experiences was the norm. Push forward to today and with social media and the TH-cam platform it makes sharing what you know much easier with others and in hopes to inspire others to have that can do attitude in their RC journey.
Great Nostalga man...
Great video - thanks for the titebond ca tip.
Your welcome. I built a few models using Titebond CA's so they sure do the job. Trying to get back into the shop and knock out some content. So the Reactor 50 seemed like the best candidate for now.
Great to see some new vids Mike...I love this plane very very sharp looking model...
Thanks! I am definitely trying to make more shop time and get back to what I really love doing.
Cool, I'm rebuilding an old Funtana X - It's going to be a blast!
Nice!
The Funtana X is a blast to fly. What you putting in it for power??
@@alwaysflying6540 I bought a RCGF 26cc side exhaust for it.
old junky soldering iron works really good for just melting the robart hinges out. just pushes right out the other end
your method also works well and is clean
That sure does work as well . I had issues when trying to remove pinned hinges on the sheeted horizontal Stab and vertical fin. No way to access the other side unless you cut the sheeting.
Hey I was wondering if your getting close yet to finish up on the P-51, just wondering! Hope all is well!
Unfortunately I have not started back on the P51 or DC3. Been so busy with other things plus getting the easier, quicker projects done so I can check off the to do list that I have been procrastinating on.
At the beginning it looks like tropical skies in Oceania and judging by the winds I believe that is Guam. Do you fly in Guam?
Yes I am on the Island of Guam.
@@BayonasRCWorld then why are you up please go to bed it’s Sunday.
I have no reason to sleep early. Most of the time I hit the sack around 4am and wake up around 9am. I have no sleep schedule! Just like I have no daily schedule. I mainly do what I want to do everyday. Life is good!
