  • In this video I take you on the journey of my 1st shot at covering with Ultracote on a full covering scheme on my Great Planes Reactor 50cc ARF that I have been refurbishing. I have been covering with Monokote for the past 40 years and with Monokote no longer in production as my covering of choice I had to find a new covering material for my models. Ultracote has never been my go to covering because of its adhesive backing, however I wanted to see why hobbyist consider Ultracote over Monokote and swear by its easy and strong attributes. So join me in this 1st ever shot using this covering material and don't forget to click that LIKE button and consider SUBSCRIBING to the channel.

    Hi
    I just stumbled across your channel. I like very much that you are building a lot of your models. I am picking up a lot of do and don'ts. I fly a Mig15 Turbine jet and also an 80" P47 bothe ARF kits.
    But now I would like to start building from kits. I have seen several channels, but they skip a lot. Your channel is more of an instruction and how to.
    This is why I have Suscribed to your Chanel.

    Most of my model planes are from Great Planes and are all covered in Monocote. Im flying since 1986 and i love Monocote. I have a few models also that were manufactured in Vietnam and are covered in Oracover which is Ultracote. Im not a big fan of it and personally its definitely not as good as Monocote. But it is so sad that Monocote is disappearing, but thats life as they say. Nothing stays the same.

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very true nothing stays the same. And that included myself in that mix. I just could not just get over the fact that Monokote is no more. Well I changed as well with the times and to continue enjoying building and covering I will give other covering materials a go.

    I've heard good things about Neucover from fellow club members. I'm in agreeance with you on the Ultracote. I'm not a fan of it myself. From what I've been told is the Neucover is a cross between Monokote and Ultracote and goes down nicely.

    I'm with you, not a big fan of Ultracote or Chinakote coverings, Monokote was the best but more and more of the colors are being discontinued. Actually, the company that makes Monokote is still in business, they also make other plastic wraps. Top Flight contracted with a vinyl maker. I wish Horizon Hobby would allow another company to sell Monokote.

      Sorry, it is General Formulations in MI that produces Monokote for TF.

    Great job as always, I totally agree with you ultracoat sucks, I’ve been using Deluxe models cover grip on some areas especially if using ultracoat. I just finished up a model with monokote, really going to miss that strong great covering, thanks to all the foamie people that have destroyed a great hobby with toys

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes all the great things in the hobby is going away. It is really sad for sure. For me it's like loosing a friend. Monokote has been in my arsenal of covering materials since I started in the early 80's until this video. That's how long I have used that product and trust it. I hated Ultracote since the day I owned ARF covered in that stuff. It just NEVER holds up at all. But we have Ultracote users who will claim it is superior to Monokote which I call BS. But what do I know right! Anyhow I am always a person of logic and WILL always give things a 2nd and sometimes a 3rd chance to prove its self and change my mind. Hehehehehehehehe

      Just wondering did you ever cover a model with koverall type fabric? I covered a 1/4 scale cud using nitrate dope and koverall then painted it with urethane paint top coat with 2k clear works great for cub type planes

    This is remove coating question: i want to use ultracote on a old plane that has a textile/fabric like painted covering?
    any recommendation on how to remove it if i do not know what glue was used? can i use just heat, or thinner or other solvent or just force and the sand it? tks

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well if you don't know what kind of covering and adhesive was used then you can do a few simple test. 1st try and use a heat gun to soften the covering and see if it will come off by pulling. If not then it was not a iron on fabric covering. Next try acetone and brush it onto the covering it should soften the material and adhesive and allow you to remove it alittle at a time if dope was used. Hope this helps

    I need to cover my first wing for a cessna 188 , 69inch wing .
    Any advice what would be better to install for someone who has not cover a wing ever, monokote ultracote, parklite?
    Thanks

    • @BayonasRCWorld
      @BayonasRCWorld  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well to be honest Monokote would be your better bet for a person that never covered before. However Ultracote once the user understands the temperature needed to adhere the cover, shrink the covering etc. Ultracote could also be a user friendly covering material. Then overall it comes down to just you.
