This is like a childhood fantasy come true. I’ve always imagined being able to fly on my own. Having something like this and the space/environment to use it is freedom.
@@plica06 this isn't an official video. There are plenty of better presentations about this glider on TH-cam. The glider came out in 2010. This 2023 video is late as hell to the game. So much for "Innovation Now"
That looks like it's too much fun for a person to have! Yet, I can't stop thinking how exciting it must be to be able to fly with almost no power but the wind and thermal currents.
I did a lot of gliding in the old days, and miss it. This has me really interested again. Gliding is the pinnacle of flying. Being up there above the earth without any power is excitement personified. Takes some skill in weak lift, but its worth the sweat to get to great heights and soar like an eagle. Once was attacked by an eagle during breeding season.... what an awesome experience that was. His eye and my eye were 6 inches apart. Kudos to the inventor of this aircraft.
I understand what you mean but you are making a lot of assumptions. What if the creator of this video is deaf or has something wrong with their speech? I only say this because my brother is in that situation. He makes TH-cam videos and uses AI as well.
How much? No doubt shockingly expensive, well beyond the budget of 99% of us watching this! This craft was invented back in the late 80' to early 90s by an aeronautical engineer. I remember watching him demonstrate it, self launching like a bird, with his own two feet. Genius. He designed and built it himself with carbon fiber. It made such an impact on me, seeing a self launch plane that could glide effortlessly, I never forgot it. Looks like they finally put his idea into actual production. What attracted me was, with plans, you could build one yourself affordably.
The whole thing is made of foam. If you get bored up there you can start breaking bits off the cockpit and scrunching the foam in to tiny pieces using only your bare hands, very satisfying and relaxing.
The narration is generated from an artificial intelligence source. You’ll find more and more of this. It’s rather cringeworthy to listen to but it gets the job done.
I’d rather hear a real, human, annoyingly nasal voice with a fumbling cadence than these auto generated voices. They have zero emotion. It’s tiring on the brain and ears after a couple of minutes.
Who was the Marketing genius who came up with the name? Please don't tell me it was that woman who studied at Harvard university who messed up the Bud Light brand losing billions of dollars.
Having the joy of soaring back in the 70's I always had fantasies of this kind of aircraft. Being in my 70's now the landing using my legs would be a disaster. Landing on a wheel at a small strip looks smooth and effortless.... I'd surely enjoy either the aero tow or electric launch method. I would enjoy knowing at what altitude the electric motor could ascend.
Asking $100K is as much as a fully loaded Corvette. And another $33K just for the electric upgrade? That's more than a new Camry for just the electric motor, batteries and propeller.
Hardly, uses advanced engineering and advanced composite materials, the materials alone are very expensive. This is a toy for riches, for the commoners like me i prefer Sandlin´s models all the way.
Also, propper flight training is much more critical than propper drinving lessons (which are still important), and that goes beyond knowing how to operate the aircraft. You'd need training about weather, dangers you might not be aware of rn, control zones etc.
imagine attaching a very light partial bike frame to the bottom instead of Fred Flintstone's feet. Text to speech gets me every time lol, just missing the stock footage.

@vusitile3926 That will depend on the vertical air currents that you will meet and can exploit. The right question to ask would be : What is the lift/drag ratio ?
@oldschoolman1444 Seems to me that electric motor is more useful for landing, needing extra air time to get to an appropriate site. Missing is boat launching, and high tower weight drop. 😂 Maybe a bicycle, dropping bike like an extra fuel tank. Unicycle?

This needs a parachute system, the fact that it is so light tells me that in a strong gust of wind this thing wouldn't have a sturdy enough frame. Also take into account failure of said high stress areas overtime, the simple and easy assembly having some failure point or someone making a simple mistake, it would have them losing a flight control surface and this thing would turn into a lawn dart. The structures are essentially using their customers as Guinea pigs, I doubt they have done years upon years of research on said design to make sure that it isn't flawed. Definitely add a chute
