    You see this in the plein aire paintings from the 19th century. The California landscape artists use blue and gray to add the depth impression to their works.

    I’ve watched this vid several times now. Finally sinking in how to push things back. More red, yellow, saturation, stronger values in front...less yellow, keep red, blue, lessen saturation and values in middle...mostly blue lowest saturation, values in the back...right?

    I’m really having an aha moment. I made a painting and my landscape background was over saturated and had too much contrast. I couldn’t put my finger on why it looked like a little kid did it. Thank you so much!
