How to Restore Touch ID of iPhone Due to Home Button Flex Broken?

  • iPhone users might be in despair when their home button touch ID gets into trouble or even doesn't work. Why? For iPhone 5s and later versions, touch ID is bonded with CPU, and the user who has replaced his home button will then lose its touch ID fingerprint sensor function. For a long time, it is a sticky business for repair technicians to repair the iPhone Touch ID not working issue, but actually, about 80% of the touch ID failures are resulted by damaged home button touch ID flex. REWA therefore released a video about how to restore iPhone 6/6 plus/6s/6s plus home button touch id by microsoldering.

    I just love these REWA videos, as they've got all the kit to do these jobs properly, but they are not really practical for the average guy on the street., Did you notice that there was a hair stuck to the tweezers at 10:54 ? Luckily it didn't get lost inside the home button once he put the back back on.

    This is obviously an advertisement for the training to learn how to do this. I am Electronic Technician by trade and I found this repair unbelievably complicated. Please do not try this without the proper tools and training. Nice video. Why would iPhone bond touch ID with CPU???? I just changed my home key and didn't know this. Iphone sometimes does things for security purposes that really makes repairing these phones a pain.

    Bravo! I've been looking for a challenge. I'm going to attempt this repair and I'll letcha know how it goes. I haven't found anything to push my limits in a while but I never considered an iPhone home flex transplant. I honestly don't know if I can do this. I looked up the video because I was wondering where the data is stored that marries the home flex to the logic board. From your cut, it must be in the flex somewhere right? Can't we just move that component to a new flex?

    • @laynelowry
      @laynelowry 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sorry, I just watched it again - so the marriage is in the home button itself, you're transplanting a new flex. Where is that component?

      Yup. I have done this method with a 5S a year ago, and it works perfectly. The same procedure. The only difference is i did not buy a new home button. i just used the same old flex. Cut directly to the bent section of the cable. Then removed those coating on the cable. Same procedure in this video. But of course you need a microscope to this. So difficult if you don't have. This method is pretty much legit. Good job REWA Technology for this awesome video. Thumbs up for this!

      Its a no risk repair at this point if it works alls well if not you lose all home button functionality however seing as touch id has failed in the first place you got nothing to lose at worst you wont have a home button that works at all then in that case you would need to buy a replacement home button just no touch id or best case this will fix the touch id as ive done 35 of these fixes and have not failed as of yet

      True, but I have a longetivity issue - considering it's the weak point of all the design, how long would solder hold, considering that OEM flex got torn in the first place.

    The tutorial was pretty knowledgeable, but why to cut a new sensor for making old sensor work?

    • @LeePattison
      @LeePattison 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      that old sensor is paired only to that iPhone so using a new one would not work look up (enclave)

    How much do you think should I charge if someone asked me to do this (excluding the replacement parts)?

    • @mrpharnos
      @mrpharnos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Aust...I’ve found that a non working Touch ID devalues the phone from $50-$100 on the final sale price of most second hand iphones. So maybe that’s a good indicator of a cost to charge. Personally if I could do it (not saying I can) and it took 30 mins or less id probably just charge $50.
