Marcus, I like your comments. We shouldn't be HARD with our children. So many people say, "When you turn 18, you're out of here. Get a job, join the army, but you're no longer under this roof!" And, to me, mother of 5, that is SO wrong-headed! They think they'll make "men" out of them, toughen them up, jerk them into shape, but it just doesn't work that way. You're not a kid one day, then an Instant Adult the next. When we force them out, how many are driven into an unwise relationship, just out of loneliness? How many fall into wicked ways, simply because there's no family waiting for them to come home? It's a gradual, learning experience, and you need SUPPORT, and love, and encouragement. They need a little help, and a little nudging, now and then.
I was saved from disaster several times, simply by knowing that when I dragged in -- late, mussed, red-faced -- my little gray-haired mother would be sitting in her recliner, in her robe, reading, smiling cheerfully at me, asking hopefully, "Did you have a good time???"
In an earlier era, grown offspring stayed in the family home. They cared for their aging parents. The one who never married often lived in the home for life. You didn't need your own space until you had a wife and family!
I think being part of the family/clan is an important part of keeping on the right path. Parents can help you adjust and grow, and each cares for the other. We're none of us meant to be all alone in the world.

I met Conway a few times when I was very young (like 4-6 years old). He owned a mobile home sales lot in the DFW area before he got super famous. My Dad was in that industry at the time. I noticed about a decade ago that the internet tried to scrub that from his history. I'm not sure why...People need homes, even if it isn't a site-built home. I've owned three site-built homes since then, but I started my adult life in a 50-foot single-wide mobile home in a trailer park. Had some great memories there. Peace, Love!!

Best thing my dad ever did was create investment accounts for my sisters and me when we each turned 16 with him as the primary and put $1000 to start the account. We sat in on every meeting he had with the investment agent about our individual account and were able to make decisions but couldn't take anything out until we were 18, at which point he took himself off the account and it became our own. It was a nest egg that I didn't really need so it became a safety mechanism that was always there if I needed it and it helped a lot to know it was there. Generational wealth is going by the wayside and it's a shame.
