Hey there! You know when you film a whole video and only when you go to edit it you realise your finger was bleeding? A bit annoying, but also a bit hilarious 😂 Hope it's not too distracting! Clearly Jimmy Carr was way too entertaining for me to notice!
Art should inspire thought. There are many ways of doing this, but disturbing comfort definitely is one. I wouldn't say it isn't art if it isn't disturbing, but if you try to cancel everything that is disturbing, you definitely cancel art.
What so many fail to understand is the difference between punching up and down in comedy. The detail is in understanding the difference between the subject of a joke and the object.
He's an incredibly genuine person outside of his routines. Very well grounded. He's knows exactly how famous he is and exactly how he got there and who makes him. Him, Gervais, Bill Bailey, Tim Minchin. they all get it.
The thing about Carr's jokes... he doesn't believe one bit about them, they are JUST jokes! He's very good at making jokes about subjects that would normaly trigger you... that's why he's so popular!
@michaelhawkins7389 I was never that keen on Frankie Boyle. I always thought he was just being controversial for the sake of it. What he said about poor Rebecca Adlington was just unforgivable. She can't help the way she looks bless her. He also made a few jibes at Gabby Logan too in one of Mock The Week episodes comparing her to a "transvestite" which was just unnecessary.
As an American, I can say most of the people I know and myself love this type of humor. It's just the loud obnoxious humorless ones who ruin it for everyone.
WE have so many comic legend's across decades, from "Peter Sellars of the Goons" to "John Cleese from Monty Python and so many others. and now we have Jimmy Carr and of course Ricky Gervais. Legends that will still be making people laugh, long after them and I, are long dead.
😊😊😊😊😊 Liking Jimmy is guilty pleasure ,you know you shouldn't laugh but you still have to, Jimmy's jokes are well thought out and constructed, he never seem to the cross the line to unacceptable , thanks for posting Megan ,❤❤.
You should not feel guilty for laughing at a joke. It's only non-offensive if it's a joke. By laughing, you confirm, it's a joke, therefore not offensive.
If you like Jimmy's risky jokes, try reacting to some Frankie Boyle. Just as close to the edge as Jimmy (IIRC he actually used to write jokes for Jimmy). Both Frankie and Jimmy are also brilliant at dealing with hecklers and interacting with their audience in general.
1st time I saw him he started a joke "do you know what I say to my gf when we're in bed together?" I shouted up to him "I always ask her what time is Jimmy coming home?". He laughed so hard he forgot to tell us his punchline.
Yeah I think one of his Montreal gigs was the first video of his I watched. I'm an Australian carpenter and the guys down at my favourite tool shop recommended him to me to watch 😊
Wouldn't be successful in Canada?! Are you kidding? Jimmy Carr has performed at Just for Laughs more than once and always receives a standing ovation. Of course, that's possibly because Montreal is one of the few cities in North America where people aren't born with sticks up their asses. 🤣
Jimmy's a real one-off envelope pusher. Brilliant with hecklers too. I think he actually appeared on the US 'Tonight' show early in his career- can't recall Jay Leno or that other guy Dave something. Not with material this risqué though, and ergo, not as funny. He was great value on the panel show 'Quire Interesting' (QI), bouncing off Stephen Fry. You've gotta love how he fearlessly just 'goes there', but very self-aware.. Thanks for sharing, Megan.
Thanks for laughing. The thing with jokes is that they're either good and make you laugh or they are not good and don't make you laugh. Jokes are only offensive as much as a person wants to feel offended.
It's a little more nuanced than that. What does Jimmy do that is different than some other offensive comedians that people have to work harder to defend?
I saw Jimmy in Cardiff and he said, if anyone want an autograph come see me after the show, ive also seen Rob Bryon, Joe Lycett and Dara o'brien and none of them did.
Megan Ruth laughing at rape and child abuse jokes. I think we’ve found her level! I would say “Stay Classy, Miss Megan!”, but I think that train has left the station ages ago…! 😂
Jimmy Carr has toured across Canada multiple times with many venues selling out. He's actually doing a Canadian tour this year and is playing Victoria BC October 26! He's awesome live, if you get a chance go and see him... He's worth it! Also, not sure why you'd say Canadians are more sensitive... Have you seen Canadian comedy?
Things have changed in the UK too. Look at what happened to Reg D Hunter, just because the audience laughed at a couple of troublemakers after Reg told a fairly lukewarm joke.
With how these chapters are titled I'm surprised YT didn't censor the whole video, you can't talk about these subjects in the comments nowadays without them getting filtered.
The Court Jester in medieval times was the one man that could mock the King. Comedians should push boundaries. If its funny it's funny. Jokes aren't offensive. Someone might find something offensive but that's their perception.
Incredibly smart is Jimmy..even his wee jibe at ye laugh at what you laugh at...then go ooooooooh...very smart... I would encourage anyone to go watch him on Joe rogan...one of the all time best podcasts ever... He came across as a very smart man with really cool monologues of life tbh it was amazing.
Carr is a comedian that I admire for his ability to formulate a "set-up / punch" perfectly. It's just that I'm not a fan of the comedy sub-genre. I came up on Carlin, Pryor, Tomlin, and Whoopi. Robin was brilliant at the minimal prep with maximum improv, but he ended his sets with carefully built pieces designed to wring maximum emotional resonance from you when he'd brought you to his most vulnerable with his humour. Carr is a craftsman, just in an area that doesn't speak to me.
@@MeganRuth magan, I do apologise, I actually watched said post, must have watched it after I'd had a "few" drinks, stay happy, safe and healthy sweetheart ❤️

@MeganRuth have you watched his shows? Hopefully if you are living in the UK London his accent can be understood, he tells a good story about living in the USA New York in the 1980s
Remember, people don't find things they agree with funny. Who makes jokes about a politician who they support wholeheartedly? So if you find rasist or sexists jokes hilarious it doesn't mean you agree with the attitude of people in the joke, quite the opposite. So don't feel bad for laughing
Aww! Don't feel guilty. I laugh at some terrible stuff but I'm still a good person (I hope). Out of context this all sounds bad, but he's doing this on purpose, and saying the worst thing imaginable is funny for some reason.
I had a fart about in the comments and noticed someone doesn't seem to understand humour let alone dark humour. An American apparently no surprises there. Just a heads up, someone being offended by a joke doesn't mean it's not a joke and they make it worse for themselves because the person teling the joke doesn't have to give a fuck. Not a joke about sa but if i did joke about it they wouldn't just be hurt by it they'd be fucking crying about it. Apparently cry about it is an Americans way of saying fuck off if you don't agree or share the same opinion which seems contradictory to me. I was tempted to joke about both things they weren't happy about but i thought i better not, given the 911 situation they mentioned they wouldn't want to be blown up which is ironically yank slang for popularity. i'm saying people feeling sorry for them over some fucking jokes and either commenting or liking there comment they seem miserable enough as it is. I did hold back on what i was goin to say. Welcome to london
That 9/11 phone number joke. I was about 13-14 at the time of 9/11 and the first time I heard the "incident" referred to as 9/11, I remember distinctly thinking "but that's the emergency phone number...???". I've usually referred to it as simply "the twin towers", just sounds better to me.

In UK they are more sensitive/offended than in USA (about Canada, i do not know, too sensored media to get any real info to the world).
Shit happens lol. Funny reaction, Thank you.

Not the first time a guy or woman stuck there finger up there and it came out covereed in blood! Your point?
I've always felt that any art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. Step forward, Mr. Jimmy Carr.
A very interesting comment, I like it 🤣 I must be the 'And' 😜

Nice perspective…
Jimmy wasn't lying, he really does sit down after every gig and sign autographs.
And finger people.
I've never been to see him, but I really admire a performer that shows that level of appreciation. It makes me like him even more.
True, I’ve seen him 3 times, and he did it after each. Really nice friendly guy.

Some of that was at Just for Laughs in Montreal. Therefore we had a Canadian girl in England watching a British comedian in Canada. Life is weird.
Wow really?! I had no idea! That's hilarious 😂
@@MeganRuth his more "wrong" jokes are often in the UK, he tones it down for North America.

Ah, Jimmy Carr, the master of dark humour and audience heckling comebacks!
along with Frankie Boyle who is even darker then James Carr but both are great.

I think one of the darkest is his joke towards Pete Davidson at his dad during a roast. Holy hell, lol.
