Right ? He is amazing. It would be so cool to see LiV review early, early Conway to compare and contrast his "pop" hits like Only Make Believe or Lonely Blue Boy (that *growwwwl* !). 😊

This song always gets to me. When we buried my dad’s dad, I watched the strongest man I’ve ever known break down inconsolably crying for the loss of his dad. I did my best to stay strong for him. After the funeral, when I got into my truck, the first song that came on the radio was “That’s my job”. It destroyed me. I just sat in my truck crying my eyes out listening to it play. Still, to this day, anytime I hear it, tears will well up in my eyes and that sucks because I absolutely love this song. I guess that’s the nature of the beast.

When in my 30's....years before my Daddy (a big black man who loved Conway Twitty..Charley Pride...Tom T. Hall...Johnny Cash..) passed, we were jokin' n teasin' as we often did and I suddenly thought...what would I do without him? And I was overwhelmed...and said it aloud. Daddy hugged me and kissed me and admonished me all in the same breath..."gal you'll be fine...you won't have no choice...you got a family depending on you just like you depended on me!" I said okay...maybe..but I tell you now...I WILL NOT be at your service. He said, " that's okay baby...I'm only gonna be there cause I have to....". And he tickled me like when I was 5.
My dad did his job....made the hardest day of my life easier.....cause the day I found out he was gone forever....I was immediately comforted by the memory of hugs kisses and a serious conversation that dissolved into laughter and love.
    Gotta 💕 real country.
    always keepin' it real.

Then two years ago i met my biological father who is now a huge part of my life. And he loves to tell me it's his job to take care of me ( I'm 26). So now the chorus is his ringtone. It kills me a little everytime but it also makes me smile. This is such a wonderful song!!

I would LOVE to hear a Dwight Yoakam song, and suggestions. I've got so many favorites, he's in my opinion the best in the business still at it. Guitars, Cadillacs, Hillbilly music, Two Doors Down, Beunos Noches from a Lonely Room, 1000 Miles from Nowhere, Thinking About Leaving(Long Enough to Change My Mind), The Back of your Hand, etc. They are all so brilliantly written, sound so different in their own way, but all so recognizable as his. Hell, "I Sang Dixie" was a huge hit. I can't even begin to list his hits, but he's done a yeoman's work, never the top guy, but a guy who consistently puts out hit after hit while staying true to country. His cover of Buck Owen's songs, sadly, was better than Buck's originals.

Just stumbled upon your channel tonight and applaud you to being open to all genres and so glad to see this song reviewed. Soo, I have a Dad, who didn't have to be one, if you follow, and even though he grew up in the city...he's more country than my mother's family who actually is from a small town. So at the same time my dad was teaching me to drive, I was listening to all the country legends like my dad's "girlfriend", Loretta and of course Conway. When I heard this as a kid, it of course brought me to tears because of every little thing my dad did (and still does for me) that he didn't HAVE TO do. It became our thing....Dad would do something and I would say, "Thanks Dad!" and he would reply...and of course still does, with, "hey... that's my job, that's what I do". I've always been convinced since my dad came into my life that he would rope the moon and give it to me...because of how dedicated he is to his "job". Ironically, in all the times I've heard this song, never until here, did I fully understand that in the last verse that was the son saying it was his job, he was doing what he does (for a living) to respect his dad and keep him close, so thank you for opening my eyes to that. As an only child, when my parents do recognize something I have done that didn't have to, or even in general, I of course respond with "that's my job, it's what I do" :) Mad props to all the Dads who put in the time and the effort, because that's what THEY do, and especially to the ones who CHOSE that job. (and btw I think this may have touched yall more than you want to admit lol.) Thanks for the smile.
