The shots in the beginning were a 21-gun salute at a military funeral. They did it at my brother's service & then they folded the flag & gave it to his daughter & the empty shells from the bullets to us. Very powerful ~ This is a beautiful song Conway wrote for his dad & it's a tearjerker. I love how he turns the 'Thats my job' back on himself, knowing it's his job to write this song for his dad. LOL He also has some sexy songs like 'I'd love to lay you down' & 'You've never been this far before'. Very scandalous at the time. LOL 'It's only make believe' is probably his most famous song.

You really want to listen to “Daddy’s Hands” by Holly Dunn. That was the song my youngest sister chose for her father/daughter dance at her wedding. Years later, when he went into hospice three days before he passed, I put together a CD of songs that told the story of his life. “Daddy’s Hands” was the next to last song on that CD. I think you’ll understand why it was appropriate for both occasions after you listen to it.

Conway Twitty is a versatile singer. He started as a rock n roll star. Then moved over to country music where he had his biggest hits. His songs went from sad, to funny, to tremendous love songs. A great reaction to this one. As an aside, he did several duets with Loretta Lynn, an amazing artist who recently died. Including the funny song "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly"

I will be 60 next year, in the last 8 years I have died twice and nearly died 5 other times. My entire family watched as I was coded and put on life support, my youngest then was 7 years old. My health has diminished and is hopefully stable enough now. My job is to try to stay around and give my children what they need including a father. It is what I do. My wife and kids are my world and they know it. My youngest now 15 is starting to trust that daddy will stay alive for awhile and she is starting to come back to me. She distanced herself because of the possibility of my eventual death. It is what I do....stay and support my family as best as I can, showing love and patience as they have shown me.

You can break the cycle and the love you will receive back from your boys will fill the holes in your heart from your childhood. Much love and well wishes from Texas. You're a winner so keep winning!!

I had the exact same reaction when I became a dad. I had a knock down drag out fight with my dad when I got to the age where he made all these decisions that had disasterous consequences. We met and lots of angry words were said. To his credit he explained things from his perspective.
I can't accept he made the right choices, and I bet you feel the same way about your dad. But I've gotten to the point where I can accept that me made the choices apparent to him. Those are very different things. And I've been able to extend grace to both my parents. I wish I could talk to one on one about this, but this song had me bawling too.

I’m 46 and I’m so afraid of the day my father is not in this life. I’m so glad to be going on a weekend trip with him, his wife and my husband. I cherish the time I have with him.
My husbands father passed in 2017. He did not have a good relationship with him. His dad was verbally and physically abusive at different times in his life to the wife and the kids. Two years before he passed he went on life support and my husband prayed if God would let him survive my husband would make a relationship with him. When his dad would get nasty my husband would tell him you’re not running me off this is a promise I made to God. I’ve said all that to say guard your heart but also consider where your parents came from and what made them who they are. I never made excuses for my father in law but I understood why he was who he was. Now as adults we have to make a decision to be a good person but his dad never understood how to love and he was a miserable person. He clung to what he thought made him happy and he never was really happy. I pray your parents find peace and love while still on this earth. God bless

As I see it, you do not want to have your children feel/ resent you as your relationship with him. Yet there's a good possibility that's why that song was sent to you. Not just as a personal reaction, but in a caring, hopeful way for you to possibly look at life!! We don't know why our parent reacted as they did. Life throws us many curve balls. We hope to do the best we can as parents. What a wonderful world that would be!!! Their is , as much as you don't want to hear this
All 100% of humans, parents, family, strangers have wounds, pain, and a past that we all , especially Fathers react because of......! Life is to short! This is not a dress rehearsal!! Do your best with your children. Maybe you should listen to this song again. But this time maybe from your to you. You may see things a little different. If not, you hold on tight with both hands. Do, Say ,Show and Enjoy!!!!! We only have one life. I only wish someone would have cared enough to share this with me. I love and care so deeply for others, and have a big ❤
I'm an emotional person as well as you. Sincerely, much love and happiness 😊
