Greetings from Pennsylvania, USA. Thank you so much for this delicious vegan recipe for black-eyed peas. When my mother or grandmother cooked black-eyed peas, they always put a piece of meat in the peas for seasoning and onions. Nothing fancy. But your recipe is just delightful. I've been vegan now for 8 years, so I really am looking forward to making this dish. Thanks again. 🧡
I'm a Philly gyrl. When I'm not cooking for my vegan brothers, I add smoked neck bones, ham hocks, or smoked turkey, kernel corn, chopped onions, green-red-yellow bell peppers a few bay leaves, cayenne pepper, garlic and my seasoning, S&P, garlic powder, onion powder and a little paprika. When I cooking for my vegan brothers, I used clear liquid stock/broth for seasoning along with everything else. The chef's way is like a black eyed peas stew. Just too many ingredients and time consuming for me. It looks very tasty though. Since it's been 9 months ago since you posted, have you made this yet?
@@EROOMASM Thank you for your reply. Your recipes sound very tasty too. But, like you said, the chef's black-eyed pea stew has a lot of ingredients. I have been assembling them. I hope to have all of them by New Year's to make the traditional black-eyed peas recipe (but vegan) for good luck in the new year. By the way, wishing you a Happy New Year!!!
@@sunrae7680 Hello, fellow Pennsylvanian. I'm thinking that another way to enjoy black-eyed peas is to put them on top of some flavorful rice instead of just white rice. I'm always looking for ways to add flavor without meat. Meat instantly adds a depth of flavor, but it can be tricky to find other ways to add that much flavor to a recipe.
Mr. I thankyou for memories of my Mother cooking Blackeye Peas. Im born in North America, Mother in the south. We didn't have the spices to cook with in the south and me growing up. I knew something was missing as I ate them with Cornbread and no rice. Im teaching my great grandchildren and grown children to remember our Culture.
Beautiful presentation well spoken measurements on point beautiful colorful and scrumptious delicious thank you so much for enhancing Black Eyed Peas blessing to you and your family❤
I made this recipe last night! It was the first time I used the cilantro stems in cooking and it made HUGE difference! Next time I will use the dried beans to give it the authentic black eyed pea flavor. I also topped it with a little homemade chili garlic sauce for a kick. Thank you Chef!!! I’ve never made curried black eyed peas and it will not be the last 🙏🏾💜
I grew up in NC and black eye pea and ham hock was cooked often. Now that I am older, I eat meat only when I get a taste for it. I love all types of beans. Will try. Thank you for the recipe.
7739 I was born and raised in n.c and mama made with ham hocks also,I am still in raleigh I still cook them I put peas on fine med. copped onion everything gets done at same time so good
I made this for my upcoming meal prep. This was so hearty, tasty and colorful. I was able to make 6 big servings. 359 calories, 20g of fat, 10g protein, 29 net carbs, and 9g of fiber.
These are some easy and simple recipes for your family. He makes them looks so easy and tasty. I will definitely be cooking some of these dishes. Yummy!
I can’t wait to make this dish tomorrow for dinner. I love black eyed peas but only knew one way to cook them now I will expand my culinary horizons. Thank you 🙏🏽
Hello Chef, I made this recipe for my family and they loved it! I then shared it with my brother, who is a vegetarian and he just called me for the recipe. I sent him the link to your TH-cam channel. He loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I love this recipe. I bought a pack of black eyed peas for more than a year now and haven’t used it. Now i have the perfect recipe to prepare it. Thank you sir!
I’m trying to teach my daughter how to make good food just like her daddy did. My education was hands on from 6 years old or younger when I was watching the old school chefs like Julia Child. I met her and have autographed recipe books of hers. So my experience is everything and just about anything that is edible. I’m disabled veteran now and have seen and dined around the world but dishes like some black eyed susans peas yummy
Thank you for sharing your lovely black eye peas recipe very delicious. I have not seen black eye peas from I was child my mama would cook lovely delicious rice with the peas and coconut milk it was great in 2023 my neighbor and I was in Walmart shopping and I saw her comes up with the black eye peas I was so excited and she told i dont have to buy because she have can give me i enjoyed my rice and peas know i will be doing my stew God bless you 🎉❤
I was looking for dried black eyes today at the store but they ran out. Definitely going to try this recipe. Seems like a lot of work but looks like the reward will be worth it. Putting mine over rice, though. 😋Love from Las Vegas, Nevada~
This looks so much healthier and tastier than the traditional way we cook BEPs in the USA South - pork and salt! Lol. Can't wait to try this recipe. Love your background music AND how you keep it in the background. Good video. Thank you for posting.
I love black eye peas & cook it frequently i variety of ways. I'll try your recipe. Looks good! I've had it with fried sweet potatoes as a side, but never with coconut milk, lemon juice & cilantro. Will let you when I prepare it. Thanks for sharing
I made this dish for dinner today. I did not have sweet potatoes so I used Yukon gold. I also used fresh coconut milk & dried mint, I do not have curry leaves . It turned out very good. The carrots made it sweet; I'm glad I did not use the sweet potatoes, it would have made it too sweet for my liking. I omitted the salt. I really enjoyed this new spin . Thanks so much for sharing.
I also will be making this delicious pot of black eyed peas with ever fresh veggies That I have and I do have coconut milk available it’s Saturday I’m be chilling with my pot of black eyed pea on with fried chicken wings rice and butter milk biscuit thank you sir for a new way of cooking black eyed peas 😊
Chef D, you prepared your recipe like you are from the island, you make nice dishes, and blackeyes. Peas is one of my favorites with cooked rice together with coconut milk and cod fish. 😋 ❤
I just made this and it’s delicious. I added in a little quinoa in My bowl just to add a bit more protein. I used canned black eyed peas cuz that’s what I had on hand. I’m allergic to cilantro so I skipped that and coriander. I substituted both with parsley. I didn’t have fresh on hand so I used dried. Didn’t have the chili pepper so I used a few jalapeño slices from the jar. Swapped the oil with avocado oil and used Celtic salt. One thing I failed to think about was the amount of salt used. I forgot that the canned peas already has salt so I didn’t need to add much at all. Anyway, this was So good. Thank you. I honestly don’t like cooking so I find myself eating mostly salads. When I do cook, I prefer it’s a soup because I can have leftovers frozen for a later date.😊😁
11-21-2024 I made the recipes, I added okra and yeah, cactus For slime factor as well as a little coconut cream with the coconut milk ! well, I tell you like I tell you and I already have my dumpers prepared oh my goodness!! What a beautiful experience. And i'm sure my ancestral author enjoyed it as well ASEOO!!!! And yes I will make it again
That was a delightful Architecture of Cooking. With a piece of bread or chapatti, one is in heaven. There is a Method in your construction, chef, that I have not seen in many.Thanks.
Awesome! AA’s as you stated that come from southern roots, love black eye peas. We don’t use all the veggies you use but they are delicious. A wonderful vegetarian meal which I am so thanks!!!
Black eye peas are actually an african crop. West african countries have traditional black eye pea recipes like this and others lkke " red, red" etc. Brought to the U.S. south during slavery....African roots!
Thank you 🙏 Chef 👨🍳 for another awesome 😎 recipe! I am very formula with black eyed peas, but I never tried the one that you made. I definitely can’t wait to try yours. I loved everything about you. You’re one of the best Chef 🧑🍳 I came across. Thank you 🙏 for sharing your delicious recipes to all your viewers. God bless! Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏!
Loved the recipe. So comforting and keeps you quite full all day. Made enough for a few days with side dishes alternating of plain white rice, cabbage salad and naan. Thank you Chef yet again.
This looks fantastic . I would love this over some organic brown cardamon jasmine rice or paired with some jalapeño cheddar cornbread( my Creole Texas roots). Glad I found your channel!
Sir, you are very well organized and very clean. Even though I prefer people use gloves while putting their hands in the food, you are exceptionally clean. I like the recipe. Thank you so much. You are very special.
I was impressed with this dish. I will definitely give it a try with my own substitutes. Loved your handling of the knife and your cleanliness. Thank you.
Thank you for going slow enough for me to understand. I’m not a frequent cook and going through the detailed process really helps me. I can only imagine what it must tastes like 🤤😋
