I just found this channel a few days ago but I’ve already binged so many videos. This is the type of cooking channel I want. Straight and to the point with no pretentiousness. Just a good ole southern boy showing how he cooks at home. Nothing was taught in “culinary school”, just showing how a great home cook learned from his own momma and daddy. I love it. Keep it up.
Whenever I cook black eyed peas I thinking of this song my Dad used to sing when he cooked beans. "Beans and cornbread had a fight, beans knocked cornbread out of sight." It would always make me laugh.

This is absolutely my new favorite thing to do on NYD !! The smash is the move! I've followed your stuff for the smoker, so I'm not sure why this should have been any surprise. I had two bowls and needed to save room for the collards!
Gotta tell you, I followed this recipe to a T. My house smelled otherworldly as the peas simmered. When I took the first bite, my tongue reached up and slapped my forehead! Four stars my friend, I can’t wait till Easter so I can make it again. Had cornbread and collard greens on the side, rice in with the peas... can’t Say enough good things about it. Thank you!

Looks good. Thank you, thank you, thank you for being a chef and mentioning less salt! So many chefs use so much. I've been home cooking for 39 years and I'm a good cook but never use salt. No one ever noticed or complained.
Ppl def waaaaaaaay overuse salt! I find that to be very true here in the south as I am a northern transplant. It can ruin so many meals, and has in my opinion. You can add it but you can’t take it away🤙🏽

Here's to good health and prosperity in 2021!

You know how we like our pinto beans and black eyed peas better the second day? Well, I just made these tonight for our New Year’s Day gathering. I’ll refrigerate them tonight and then freeze them tomorrow night. They already tasting great. Everyone come on over New Year’s Day for peas, sautéed cabbage, and corn bread! I’m working on taking some weight off my MIL’s shoulders by learning to cook southern holiday meals (my husband is from SC, I’m Puerto Rican from PA). Your channel has helped me so much! What I learned from you is to smash some of the beans to thicken the pot liquor. I'm making these for my family today. Thanks for the tips. Much love to you, aloha.

Oh AB! This is exactly how we fix black eyes! Also it was the way that my Mom and Grandma fixed them! Way too many videos that I have seen go to extremes to add flavor by adding celery, onions, bell pepper and cook them down before adding the peas. I'm with you, I want to taste the black eye peas! These served with some rice, turnip or collard greens, and a skillet of cornbread, nothing better! Thank you Sir for sharing how you fix them and wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year!

Along with onions, garlic and smoked paprika, I used smoked turkey necks for seasoning. My brother. I tried your style but I didn't have any kind of meat at the moment to throw down in there. I used a onion two cloves of garlic three piece of celery three pieces of carrots two potatoes but I put some tomato sauce in there. I did it exactly how you said it.
