    Definitely agreed on the Blue Horrors. I remember seeing their statline for the first time and going 'Oh, so slower Skinks with Javelins without shields, but with more ammo, physical resistance, magical flaming attacks, loose formation, daemonic instability instead of routing, and a nice barrier to protect them from enemy skirmishing. 450-500 gold?'
    Of course, that was back when I assumed that Tzeentch barriers would be like 300-400 hit points and mostly meant for mitigating poke damage. Instead a unit of Blues has *1400* hit points worth of barrier. The fact that Tzeentch gets this unit for *the same price* as a Skink Javelin is a crime.

    Honestly, when I first saw the reveal for the Khorne Flesh Hounds from CA, I was expecting to use them just like warhounds and then replace them as soon as possible, but now actually playing the game, they have proven their worth over and over again, and have now became a primary unit I use in basically all of my Khornate armies

    • @Rich-in6ds
      @Rich-in6ds 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I would typically keep 1 unit of warhounds in my armies even into the late-game because of how incredibly efficient they are at finishing routing units (MUCH better at heavy cavalry at this) but with flesh hounds they’re actually late-game viable for hunting missiles/artillery and I still have 3 or more units in every army. My Skarbrand army is: Skarbrand, 1 Cultist of Khorne, 2 Chaos Warriors, 5 exalted Bloodthirsters, 3 flesh hounds, 3 skullcrushers and 5 skull canons. This army dominates everything! I might try and squeeze a bloodthirster in there for extra SEM gooning power but I’m near the end of the campaign and haven’t felt that I need it yet.

      I have played him to max glory in both undivided and Nurgle. As a combat lord, he sucks either way. Stats are way too low. Nurgle was much better because the armor sets give very good troop replenishment and bonuses to your common troop types. After getting to max glory as Nurgle, I could autoresolve most battles on legendary difficulty, taking no losses and then fully replenish by the start of the next turn.

    I just finished a iron dragon campaign, and i feel like the true MVPs of the campaign were the jade crossbowmen with shields. Got four early, and they were my first rank 9 units, and regularly had 100+ kills each in most every battle. They trade EXTREMELY well with other ranged units it seems, and are really good for reinforcing your main line when they run out of ammo.

    • @MostlyUnreadArmchairExpert
      @MostlyUnreadArmchairExpert 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, but given their ease of access at T2 vs. T3, I'd argue that jade crossbowmen w/out the shields are the real MVPs. The shields make only a moderate difference, and the accessibility of T2 vs. T3 units is serious, especially early game, which is really the hard part of any campaign.
      Your larger point holds though: Jade crossbowmen are awesome.

    Something I'm very curious to see when we get to all the factions being playable together is how good will the god-tier micro of the pros elevate slaneesh
    from what I'm hearing from a lot of people that slaneesh is arguably the weakest faction of the bunch, but if you have God tier micro there's a lot you can do

    • @Vanhal11
      @Vanhal11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, really good players tend to say Slaanesh is the strongest chaos god, while more average players say he's the weakest, especially glaring difference if you consider the diff level those two kinds of people are playing. Difference is, how much are you willing to invest in every single battle before you get tired and autoresolve everything. For me it was very short time i generally don't like the chaos rosters because how small and monotonous they are, and while the others all have at least some variety, Slaanesh is the prime offender. Also my micro willingness is basically zero. Finally after hours of just tedious trying i made keeper doomstack because that was basically the only thing that worked for me.

    • @aaronrowell6943
      @aaronrowell6943 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Vanhal11 it is a question of micro and I just comes down to the players abilities but it's like I was trying to explain to this guy he's like the forces of khrone are just so strong.
      And I agree I think that each of the demons are op in their own little ways and I'm very curious to see how the other game to end game races with all the updates are going to be able to stand against them in an open battle because that is the one weakness of the demons is they do struggle against the sieges but let's say it's an open Land Battle.
      I have found that pro players value speed above all else because speed gives you the ability to pick and choose your engagements and escape if something bad goes wrong. Slaneesh units melt and I had to head combat but maybe in the hands of a pro player they will be able to completely annihilate their enemies the only weakness that they really have is the lack of missiles which will make them suffer against missile heavy factions like the elves.
      Play I'm very curious to see what the date is going to be because pros tend to not like slow armies from what I've seen like the dwarves.
      I'm not saying that like it's hard to say that one faction is better than all others in all situations, I've seen the beastmen win a tournament where you had to pick a race and stick with it before they got their DLC. Multiplayer is very different from single player like you're saying where some factions are just going to struggle in single player but Excel and multiplayer so we will just have to see.
      Another concern I do have though is the fact that it seems like the demons might struggle against air because they don't have a lot of and because they don't have missiles they don't have a lot of anti-air capabilities

    • @Aredel
      @Aredel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      People tend to confuse "weak" with "difficult". Same went for the Asrai when they came out. They aren't weak, they're just very difficult to master. Tends to be the case for most glass cannons in any game.

    • @aaronrowell6943
      @aaronrowell6943 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Aredel that's a good way to look at it. This particular person likes strong all around factions such as the lizard men who are solid and pretty much every way you can name with few weaknesses.
      I prefer that factions have clearly defined strengths and weaknesses and if they are good all around that there's a drawback like cost like the Asrai or jack of all trades and master of none scenario like the Empire.
      I think my favorite example that I use for this is brittonia. They are highly mobile faction with their nights who are heavily armored and sturdy and they have useful magic and solid Lords but at the cost of a weak front line and limited in their missiles. I could be wrong but it last I recall they have no armor piercing missiles so they have to factor that in every battle. You have to understand solid cavalry tactics to be good with them. However, they are very weak to armor piercing units and bonus versus large particularly things that can do both of those things. Just a good solid all-around faction with clearly defined strengths and weaknesses that you have to weigh when you use them in battle.

    I have to agree 100% on the Terracotta Sentinel. I just did Khorne's survival battle last night in my Zhao Ming campaign last night and the Sentinels I summoned in even without chevron's were melting Khorne's exalted units like there was no tomorrow. If I had to pick a second unit for Cathay that would be worthy I would say either the grand cannon or the Longma riders. The longma riders are decently fast and have decent armor and because they are flying units you can pick your engagements a lot quicker. The grand canon is more accurate than the fire rain rocket and it has enough damage output to rip right through Tzeentch's barrier so that you can get units off the field.

    Ku'Gath + 3 Plagueridden mounted on pest flies and healing gift + 16 Nurgle Soulgrinders + Pest recipe that gives 20% physical reduction damage to all the armies.

But I remember the recruitment mechanic from medieval two, Even if you are raking in money which was quite difficult in that game without cheesing, You could not build a doom stack so easily or so quickly because your certain number of turns and then you had a maximum recruiting pool size, so some of your top tier or elite units you could only have one maybe two sitting ready for recruitment and then it would take like 10 or 20 turns to refresh.
    It forced you to be strategic and it also made you have to use things you might not use otherwise out of desperation to bolster numbers.

Pretty sure this thing could outperform hell even solo a Necrosphinx in 1v1 right now, and that is not something that should be happening against a unit made to kill other big targets and at that price cost. • @noahhaller4540
      @noahhaller4540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flamers deal damage, thats their role. Horrors do everything, and they do everything pretty darn well. A single blue horror volley can waver most unarmored single entities, and do respectable damage to everything else as well. They also can capture, are surprisingly tanky, and can melee fairly well for their price point. Its really hard for them to not be useful. Flamers however can get charged by a 600 cost hellstrider and evaporate. Flamers are still great, but horrors have so much versatility.
      Also gorgers are capped in Turin's tournaments, but I agree that the ironblaster is more broken, as gorgers again are vulnerable to cheap hellstrider cav, magic, and missiles, meanwhile the ironblaster can be oppressive to nearly any unit on the map, all three victory points, and takes an extremely large skill gap to actually kill. No roster has the tools to counter them (aside from Cathay great cannons), especially if the ogre player micro's them and keeps a frontline.

    • @fendelphi
      @fendelphi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the point is, that the Sentinel provides you with a unique and important role, that you do not get from any other unit. Fire Rain Rocket is good, but you could substitute it with a different artillery piece or have magic cover the AoE component of your armies.
      The Sentinel is Unbreakable and will add constant pressure and line-holding where ever it is. It is hard to disrupt or negate it's effect on the battlefield, unlike most other Cathay units(which relies on combined arms a lot), and can deal with every kind of opponent to a satisfying degree.
      For instance, you can send in the Sentinels early, and the use your artillery to destroy the blobs that form around them. The sentinels will take a bit of damage, but will never stop fighting, and they have enough Mass and Speed to break out of infantry, if you need them elsewhere.
