All jokes aside, I notice an uptick in Roman-themed Undead factions in various games in recent years. Dominions 5 has Ermor, Battle Brothers has the Ancient Undead (who even have pseudo-germanic and pseudo-celtic undead Auxiliaries), Songs of Conquest has the Barony of Loth, and the tabletop wargame Conquest has the Old Dominion (which also has some Byzantine stuff in their roster, like Cataphracts and Varangians).
Not sure where that came from, but I'm not complaining. I'd love to see more Undead Romans.

@@Caldaris As a certified Dominionsologist (Don't quote me on that), I can tell you that it is the Dwarf Fortress of strategy games.
The amount of unique Factions, Spells, Craftable Items, and strategies is without equal.
You want to lead an army of sapient Magma humans clad in the heaviest armour possible? That's a thing.
Wanna wage war with Japanese Oni as semi-divine Angels governing over armies of monkeys? Thats possible.
A lot of the factions in the game is based on real life mythology, Mixed with tabletop games and some such.

It's pretty funny to see you doing this one because i'm almost done reading through a series called Codex Alera which is a pretty similar scenario to what you're doing here. It's basically "the lost legion" myth but it was Julius Caesar's legions, dropped into a fantasy world with magic (via binding elemental spirits) and a lot of nonhuman races. Story starts almost two thousand years later after the misplaced romans have managed to tame the spirits and used their new found magic and good old legions to tame their corner continent via good old total war and a bit of genocide. It's a pretty good read.

Technically you could say this is semi-lore-friendly since the Roman Empire did exist in the Warhammer world as the Reman Empire.

its funny that despite being modeled on the germanic holy roman empire, warhammers empire didn't really have much of an ancient roman precursor. fitting that it's tyrion here i guess because i think a lot of the ruins in warhammer italy are actually elf ruins

Actually, in older versions of Warhammer, there was a totally not Roman, "Remen Empire" located in Remas that conquered all of Tilea, Estallia, the Border Princes, and a lot of Bretonnia. Myrmidia, the god of strategic warfare, came down and kicked ass to form it, just like Sigmar did.

_As I noted years ago.... It would be fun to have a Total War (Fantasy) Title that combines all eras, nations and factions in one game and make it possible to compete in that alternate universe. The Holy Father Pope St. Scratchius would surely agree... yes, yes!_ 🤯

Fun fact, some myths about dragons were likely based on battles against Roman Legions. The armies with shiny plate armor, and walls of shields, moving as one coordinated unit, being used as the inspiration for the hulking armored bodies of dragons.

After a painstaking amount of patience and effort, the Romans have instilled the Roman way into these "rat-men".
