I am a retired pastor. My dream was to have a woodworking shop after I retired. I just wanted to thank you for all your help. Your shows have encouraged me and helped me put my business plan together. Thanks for all the tips , plans and encouragement.
Have been in the process of building this planter. Things I’ve come across: -When cutting your stained board pieces out, make sure the fence pickets you use (It’s either 3 or 4 out of the 5 total) are the same thickness. After I had sanded, stained them and eventually put the chevron pattern on, they were different heights coming off the frame. Which didn’t look quite right, still looked decent. -When I was squaring off the sides of the picket fences, I ended up cutting too much off. So some of my pieces were a little to short. -If you’re using the kreg jig pocket hole handheld (gun looking one) make sure you have the depth to 1/2”. I had drilled way to far and messed up some frame pieces. -I put some Danish oil on the finished product and man it looks so cool, all the colors pop and it is quite amazing. Overall, it was a great first project. I highly recommend trying this out with Matthews esty plans. Very easy to follow, but don’t necessarily count on this project to make you fast money. I only wish I had a miter saw, that definitely would have made it way faster. I had to cut all my pieces on the table saw, and that freaking took FOREVER. I’m proud of the way it turned out, and like Matthew said, every piece is it’s own. So true. I used a Cherry stain, espresso, dark walnut, and a lighter brown stain (forgot the name) and it looks amazing.
I started watching your videos because one night on my lunch break I was perusing YT and one popped up. Since I am an LEO I decided to start making custom retirement flags. I've seen you mention furring strips several times and funny enough that's what I use for the flags. Matter of fact tonight a man I have worked with for the last decade got one. Those I can charge upwards of $120 a piece but your ideas for smaller things to fill the gaps between flag orders has given me a lot of ideas. I'm hoping I can make enough selling small things that I can drop one of my side jobs so I can spend more time at home with the family.
Just want to say that, as a complete novice, I have been devouring your videos and your ideas and instruction has been very inspiring. Really hope you keep these going for a long time.
Matthew, I bought these plans. They are one of the most complete and professionally published I have found on TH-cam. Thanks. Now to find some worthy wood!
Thank you Matthew for putting out all of your great tutorials. I enjoy seeing each of your tutorials as well as all of my brothers and sister. I am sure that we are not the only ones that have benefited by your teaching. I would say there are 414 left. Keep up the Great work. Thank You for ALL that you do. Randall
Hey Matt, sold some trellises and a few 7' obelisks and a few 5' versions. Made the tapered planters out of cedar pickets, no takers yet. I enjoy your enthusiasm and videos. 291 screws left.
BEAUTIFUL!! I need my knee replaced and it has me slightly depressed because I’m only 46 years old! I guess that’s what I get for driving dump trucks, hanging siding, taken down trees amongst many other strenuous things! I will be enjoying your videos and living vicariously through you!😊
Putting the block between the frame and the miter gauge to trim off the first edge is genius. I can't believe I've been free handing and eye balling it on aa sled ll this time. Thanks!
Love the planters. Just finished my first one.. Lessons learned-When you assemble the panels, they overlap as much as an inch causing the herring bone pattern to be off center. When starting the pattern make sure the first set of boards is off center the correct amount and that the 45 degree angle is correct. Wipe off and glue that ozzes out on the finished. Dried glue is hard to get off and damages the stain. The holes Matthew added to attach two panels together will also screw the legs on from the back side but I had to cut the screws off because they don't make the correct length. I'm having issues with the top being too thin after planing. My cedar fence pickets aren't as thick so the tops have to be perfect to look good.
I really like this one. I'm pretty sure this will be my first project for my first year of my business plan. You have really been such a help to me as I move forward to creating a plan to create some additional income now and into retirement down the road. Manufacturing has been a big part of my life and utilizing jigs and fixtureing to build projects will make it both fun and efficient for me. I'm starting out simple and moving along from there. I hope you won't mind if I send some updates along the way as I turn a simple idea of mine into what I hope to be a fun(most important to me) and profitable venture Thank you, Mike

Thank you for all of these ideas! I've sold probably over 200 planters all together and around 20 trellises! My guess is 273!

5 - Gotta low ball this one because it looks like you used a lot of screws. Can't imagine you have many left. Great looking build! I'm a little hesitant to make one because I know my wife will then want at least 5 more! Looks so good, though, that I think it's gotta happen anyway. Thanks for the great idea!

I try to always cut on one side of the line. This means that my blade cut is constantly on the left side (covering the line from left to right) of the line. But one should always take into account the blade kerf like you said. You can also measure for each cut separately, but this will require a lot more time. Fences and stop blocks will keep cuts repetitive as well.

@@MatthewPeechWoodworking Talking with several other wood workers in my area and they have went from busy to nothing as well. Looks like it's due to the soaring cost of everything else. Seriously cost $15 to drive to the store to buy eggs and milk. Craziness
Made a tapered planter and of course "screwed" it up. Literally. Pocketholes on inside and outside of one panel so that one will be ours. Now the pickets are down there in my shop waiting--should it be more tapered or this with the chevrons? Decisions, decisions. Selling them would be great, but I expect my sisters and 90 year old mother will end up with their yards full of them as gifts. And then there are the kids and grandkids... Thank you, Matthew. I love your videos. You are so knowledgeable, a great teacher, and always optimistic.
I look forward to thes videos. They have inspired me to get my projects off the back of a napkin and into the workshop. Just finished some small planters for the tops of the brick pillars that line my driveway. using the fence picketts is brilliant . The time saved instead of working with pallets is gold. there ar 283 screws in the box. Keep the videos coming. Thanks.
Enjoy watching your videos. You inspire a lot of people to try the craft by making things simple. Keep up the good work. My guess for the screws is 257.
I love this planter. I am trying to make it. I cut A-K and frame pieces exactly as cutlist says. When I try to layout pieces either the side edges are not completely covering the frame, or pieces K can't even fit on. Instinct says either the frame needs to be smaller, or A-K need to be longer pieces. Stumped.
217 screws left :D Just wanted to participate, thanks for the content man, you’ve been killing it and helping to inspire me to get my shop up and running!

I never should have showed your site to my wife! LOL She had t have the cedar planters and now she wants these as well. Thanks for the inspiration, Matthew. Looks like about 327 screws left in the box.
Hey Matthew, I just wanted to let you know you might want to go back on the Herringbone plan on your Esty shop .Go back and correct. Due to there is an error on it. You have on the plan to set all the pocket holes at 1/2 " on the T&B and Center. On your video here, you said set the pocket holes at 1 1/2" . Unfortunately, I did all my pocket holes according to the plan at 1/2". And a few blew out right in the middle of pocket holes. That I purchased from you. Now I am having to go back and do recutting all the B&T frame and Centers. And now, I have to reset the pocket holes for 1 1/2"
a co-worker introduced me to your channel and got to say i'm loving your work and you sir are a fantastic teacher. got to guess the screw count of 331.
281 left. Love all your planter box videos. Have built several of the farmhouse style for family and they love them. I like the double box style but im hesitant to make one because then they will all probably want one lol!
Very nice - * One change suggestion: put the bottom pieces inside, across, resting on the inside of the the frame. Glue, nail, faster, cheaper [no screws], far stronger when someone drops a full wet pot inside.
THE GAME IS OVER AND WE HAVE A WINNER! WE HAD TO DRAW BETWEEN TWO NAMES. THANKS FOR ALL THAT PLAYED! IT WAS A GOOD TIME!!!
Who won?
I'm trying to contact them now. Before I announce it I want to make sure I get the correct person responding back. I'll post the winner soon!

Great planters. I love the herring bone!
Thanks Lucy! Yes.. they will all want some lol. And we all mess up... all of us. just learn and move on just like you did! Have fun with this one!
Thanks.

Will do!
Great Video!!! I have really enjoyed watching and making your designs. 213 screws left.
Stumped.
I really like this planter, and want to make it. I need a solution.

And now, I have to reset the pocket holes for 1 1/2"
They look great thanks for putting it out there
No problem 👍
418, they look great!

281 left. Love all your planter box videos. Have built several of the farmhouse style for family and they love them. I like the double box style but im hesitant to make one because then they will all probably want one lol!
My guess is 49 screws left. Thanks for these videos! I'm really loving building these planter boxes. I can't wait to make this one now!
No Worries Tim! Enjoy!
327 screws left , love the square herringbone
Very nice - * One change suggestion: put the bottom pieces inside, across, resting on the inside of the the frame. Glue, nail, faster, cheaper [no screws], far stronger when someone drops a full wet pot inside.
