Following using rice berry face serum by litttleextrra for three weeks, here's what I experienced: Benefits: It effectively softens and evens out the skin, giving it a gentle glow. I've also seen a reduction in my genetic dark circles (avoiding the eye area is recommended). It has also helped diminish dark spots on my sister's skin. Cons: Personally, mine is dry and dull skin, and using the serum every day exacerbated my dryness. I advise using it thrice a week along with a good moisturizer to prevent dryness. I haven't seen any noticeable improvement in tan or skin tone issues in first 3 weeks. Update after 2 months: After almost two months of consistent use, I regard it my holy grail face serum. It has started showing positive results. My skin glows, dark circles reduced, and dark spots reduced a lot. So patience is key when using this face serum.
This riceberry face serum contains the real goodness of Vitamin C. It quickly gets absorbed by the skin and is completely non-greasy. My skin feels refreshed after applying this serum. I use it twice daily for that extra freshness and glow.
10:40 Regarding SkinCeuticals at $182 and other products having the same ingredients, and that these other products might not act the same you are correct. But when I first heard of SkinCeuticals, its reviews and price tag. I decided to research other of the same ingredients, read their history and their none disclosure or disclosure of their % of ingredients used, and Dr. Dray I found one that hasn't me failed in years.. You are also right about stabilizing the vitamin C and preventing further oxidation, and this is #1 for me Dr. Dray. Dr. Brenner 20% Vitamin C Serum at $17.99 or $19.99, I believed I payed around $20 when I first started.. You can't beat the price and the results Dr. Dray L-Ascorbic Acid 20% Vitamin E 1% Hyaluronic Acid 1% Ferulic Acid .5% I kept my serum stable for a year in the refrigerator for one whole year without the ingredients which is clear and in a dark bottle. about a month a slight yellowing started, so I discarded what was a dropper size amount.. This was my first Vitamin c ever purchased, and it works. I looked into his company.. if you want your Vitamin serums to last, do not keep the in your medicine cabinet in your bathrooms, the heat and steam from your showers will effect them, also kept the serum in a black plastic bag, to avoid any further light affecting the bottle, even though it was in a dark bottle.. I just wanted to last Dr. Dray and it did..
I use the Timeless 20% Vitamin C. I started using it hoping it would reduce some really obvious melasma I had. Over a 4-6 month period it actually reduced the melasma so much even my sons commented (guys don't usually notice things like that!). Based on my personal experience I continue to use the Timeless 20% Vit C. I have seen my melasma virtually disappear and stay gone! That's what convinces me that it is getting enoiugh Vitamin C into my skin! Great video as always, so informative!
Thank you for this post, Rowena. I decided to move from the very pricey SkinCeuticals to recognize some significant savings by switching. I’m happy to hear Timeless is working well for you!
The Paula’s choice 10% Azeleic acid/ 0.5% salcylic acid serum has proven to be my miracle “skin brightening” ingredient in addition to my 0.025% tretinoin. I’ve tried vitamin C and I was sensitive to it. Just a reminder that it’s okay if you can’t tolerate this ingredient or it doesn’t work in your budget!
I really think the PC azelaic acid booster is their best product. I love it. I've tried the face theory one, and I DO like it, but I think the PC one has been easier on my skin.
Everything I love about Dr. Dray is in this video! She is thorough, honest, and reasonable. Her explanations are easy to understand without talking down to her audience. I would love to find a dermatologist like her!
@@subs4794 some of us appreciate the science explanation behind skincare products. Her recommendations are honest and evidence-based. In this video she actually recommends against buying vitamin c serum. The opposite of promoting big pharma
I’m over 50 and have tried many vitamin C serums, believe me. I hate to admit it, but I have had the absolute best results with SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic. I almost wish it didn’t perform so well because of the obscene price point. Nothing comes close.
@@Yamoukawchowa Hi. Yes, I have. Both decent, but no one can get close to CE Ferulic. It’s patented, and it’s all about the formulation. Sometimes, you really do get what you pay for.
@@margylenhard8535 Have you tried Cosrx 23% vitamin c And Isntree 23% vitamin c If yes how does they compare to skinceuticals Haven't tried skinceuticals but isntree one beats any other vitamin c i have tried Drunk elephant , la Roche posay etc .
So far I’ve tried Timeless 10%, Maelove and The Ordinary Vit C Suspension. My fave has been Timeless so far in terms of the way it feels on my skin and price.
I have been using Timeless 20% followed by Cetaphil, and have seen immediate improvement with a huge glow and added bounciness/a sort of light puffiness to my skin that lasts for about 48 hours! I've never had anything like this glowing reaction, even with long-term tretinoin and HA use. I want to try the Skinceuticals type, but it's so expensive. This video was very helpful! We appreciate you.
Yesterday i ordered Timeless 20% and the CoQ10 serums . They have 40% off Vday sale. Like u, ive been using 0.10% tret w/niacinamide for 2 years with no visible improvement.
I've only tried 2 vitamin c serums. SkinCeuticals and Timeless. In my experience there was no difference in performance. Both worked great for me. Timeless is the winner cost wise and for results.
I've been using Vitamin C serums (L-Ascorbic Acid form) for 3 year. I have used CEF, PCF, SCF from Skinceuticals, Obagi VC US range (C20), Obagi VC Japan range (C10, C20, C25), Timeless 20% VC, and a bunch of other products. I have oily skin, my face always tend very dull (sometimes dark) just 2h after cleanser. These VC serums definitely works on my skin, keeping me glow all the time.
@@silverbowftw5225 I think it depends on your condition and preferences. My fav are those from Skinceuticals and Obagi Japan range. If you have oily and acne skins, try PCF, SCF, and Timeless, while Obagi and CEF are more suitable for dry skin. Obagi Japan C25 has the most delightful citric fragrance which I like, but its too expensive and hard to get. Timeless is a good bargain.
@@silverbowftw5225 I find Obagi 20% to be work the best. I have tried numerous and saw a big difference at theh10 week mark. I do want to point out I am a retin a user and a 365 day a year sun screen user which is an important part of the process for the best results in my personal opinion.
My holy grail is Dr Brenner's. I love how it feels on my skin and the ingredients & it never oxidizes on me. I've tried Timeless & not a fan of its watery consistency & packaging. I also tried Maelove, but it oxidized after only about a week and 1/2. I've also tried the Truth Treatments C Balm & love it, but the price is out of this world! Dr Brenner's for the win. 🏆🍊
My favorite Vitamin C serum is the Paulas Choice Super Antioxidant serum. I've tried many serums and that one has really made a huge difference and helped with reducing my hyperpigmentation. I got my mom to use it too for the anti aging benefits, she loves it
One thing I've noticed about Skinceuticals and their dupes (Timeless, Maelove, Dr Brenner) is they have a large amount of ethoxydiglycol in them, aka Transcutol. This allows the alcohol soluble ferulic acid to be dissolved, but also it's a powerful skin penetration agent and I'm not sure you'd get nearly the same vitamin C penetration without it. Also, whatever I put on afterwards seems to get very good penetration rather than sit on top of the skin, especially if it is alcohol soluble like Tazarotene.
@@auricia201 actually I've been putting a little pure resveratrol powder from lotioncrafters into mine and it mixes into the ethoxydiglycol very nicely.
@@chadh6855may I ask which one you are using currently? I have Cerave’s vitamin c but whenever I use it my skin peels off and I hate it. I once got a skinceuticals c e ferulic gifted to me and used it; great result. but it’s expensive. I was thinking to try timeless this time but unsure
I’ve been using Dermalogica’s Biolumin C serum for many years and love it. I’ve tried several other popular brands and they don’t work nearly as well for me. I feel like dermalogica’s really makes a difference for my skin.
I've only used the Acure Brightening Vitamin C & Ferulic Oil which I really liked. This was some years ago, and at the time I thought it was responsible for how quickly my dark marks disappeared, but then I remembered I was also using Cereve Resurfacing Retinol at the same time.
I always had bad reactions to vitamin c serums until I tried the Skinceuticals line. I’ve been using the C E Ferulic and Phloretin CF for years and my skin has never looked better. They’re expensive but worth it!

Timeless 20% works for me! Refrigerate and it is at the proper ph, plus inexpensive and it’s container is airless pump vs dropper which keeps it from oxidizing
I switch to products contains tranexamic acid and niacinamide. And found these ingredients work for my skin. So it’s important not to fall for the trends or marketing hype but observe what your skin likes and personalize your own skincare.
@@Joy-wx5wd I use those which indicate the %, not necessary both ingredients in one product, one can be in cream one in toner or serum. And I make sure to switch products after 8-12 weeks use as that’s how researches show it takes normally 8-12 weeks to show results and I‘d like try new products from time to time. So more fun in skincare and self care journey.
I’ve tried a bunch from budget end to top of the line. The only two that seem to work for my skin are the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic and one from iS Clinical. With both of those I notice brightening effects. I’m really happy with my skin and it’s the only pricey item I purchase so I’ll continue.
I tried so many Vitamin C serums and found that none of them were doing anything, so I was going to give them up. But then I tried The Ordinary's 8% Vit C with 2% Alpha Arbutin. I use it all over my face plus extra on old acne spots I want to fade and after a month, it's really started to fade those spots. I admit it may just be the Alpha Arbutin that's helping. I've also been using it with The Ordinary's Revesvertol/Ferulic Acid combo, so perhaps that's upping it's effectiveness. The only thing I dislike about The Ordinary's 8% Vit C with 2% AA is the oil based formulation which means it must be applied after any water based serums. (If anyone's curious, the Vit C Serums I've tried, but decided didn't work include ROC, IUNIK, Dear Klairs & Naturium.)
I was using Timeless Vit C for a few months and it did help brighten my skin & diminish some hyperpigmentation. I then started Tretinoin and can no longer use it. I have had 2 skin cancers removed from my face and several on legs. I am 63 & I now have 6 precancers on my face that have to be dealt with. Vit C is the furtherist thing from my mind. Thanks for the video Dr. Dray!
I thought she said there may be evidence that it helps treat skin cancers or stop them from forming. I am having to be treated for skin cancer right now.
@@Skirkly yes, she said ‘may be’ evidence. Tretinoin is actually known to help prevent, so if I have to choose between the two I’ll take Tretinoin. So sorry you’re having to deal with the skin cancers. They’re a b***h for sure

Have a blessed day 🌞🙂
I am so glad to hear you say this! I'm 65 and have always taken care of my skin, but the vast number of products is daunting. I tried a highly recommended and expensive Vit C Serum about 10 years ago, used it for about a week, and it irritated my skin so much I discontinued it. Even so, I still have wondered if I needed a Vit C cream of some type. I'm glad to hear it is not necessary. I do take Vit C supplements orally for my overall immune system and feel that it does give my body a boost especially in the cold and flu season. Thank for your no-nonsense videos. I always learn something from you! Just one more thing: I had a pedicure a few days ago and the nail technician rubbed slices of fresh oranges on my toes and cuticles. I had never had that treatment before, but it felt great. LOL I'm not sure exactly what it was supposed to do, but I did feel pampered.
I have rosacea and super sensitive skin. I use the Ghost Democracy Vitamin C serum. It doesn’t irritate my skin and I really enjoy it. I’m not sure how much vitamin C I’m getting, but my skin loves it!
Timeless is affordable and works for me. I started on their 10% to acclimate my skin before going up to the 20%. It is in an airless pump, and recently they improved the pump plus now put it in a glass bottle. I can’t talk myself into spending the $$$ on that other one and watching it oxidize before my very eyes. Nope.
I put my Timeless in the refrigerator and date the box. I think the c stays good for longer. I get the 4 ounce bottle and it gets used up in 6 months .
Here in Canada, Marcelle has recently come out with 3 new serums. I picked up the vitamin C one and the retinol one. Been using both for a couple weeks now and so far I'm liking them and no irritation.
I'm 80 and have tried several vitamin C serums. What works like a charm for me is Vichy LiftActive. Immediate, noticeable results. I have to spread it quickly because it absorbs instantly.
I love the Skinceuticals phloretin CF. I'm seeing amazing results on sunspots. I'm on my 3rd bottle in about 14 months. It's expensive but effective. Thanks Dr. Dray for all the wonderful advice
I use Skinceuticals CE Ferulic and it does help fade hyperpigmentation from sun damage for me. The big players though have been the CO2 laser and chemical peels like glycolic and reverasatrol.
Honestly, not a lot of folks could afford $182 just for one bottle of Vit C serum! I have tried both skinceuticals and Timeless. Just say I would never purchase skinceuticals again! Timeless is just effective as skinceuticals from my experiences.
Timeless 20% is amazing. I have dry and sensitive skin. I use it every day with no issues. I even follow it up with The Ordinary tetrahexadecyl ascorbate 20% which amplifies the effect.
I have been using the timeless for thr last 4 months with no issues and like it. The only problem is the smell! I am not someone who is bothered by skincare/makeup scents and normally find it goes away quickly, but this has a lingering sweaty/fake tan bo smell that lasts all day that I can smell! Am I the only one?
I have tried over 6 different Vitamin C’s…hand down I love Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic the best!!! I get it when I can get at least 10% off (usually on a TH-cam influencer’s channel that’s running a special) Great informative video!
At the risk of repeating myself....again! I'm still loving my CeraVe Vitamin C Serum. No fragrance or citrus oils and makes my skin feel and look very smooth! Works so well under my daily moisturizer. 😊🍊
@@ananicholson6152 Agreed. I used the very hyped Mad Hippie serum for a while but didn't like it or understand its popularity. Pretty expensive too for drugstore. 🤨
At an age where the sun damage really affects the pigmentation on my face and hands, I was happy to discover the Skinceuticals product. This video was great! I love all the info you share with your viewers. Foods that we eat with vitamin C are important, also.
Timeless 20% vitamin C is identical to CE Ferulic, I've used both for years, and now use timeless exclusively. I use it for collagen/anti aging purposes and have seen the benefits. Will continue to use it.
Angie at Hot and flashy TH-cam channel has done a great video testing the P.H stability of some vitamin c products. She recommended the good ones and shows the ones that's dont have proper P.h so wouldn't do anything! Great video.
I've been using vitamin C serum by Serious Skin Care. I've been using it since the late 90s. Used serum, eye serum, & cleanser. I'm currently 61 & people think I'm in my 40s. So glad I started using it & I also don't sit in the sun.
I don't use vitamin c serums because they oxidize too quickly. I use hyaluronic acid and ascorbic acid powder. I mix it in my palm right before I use it.
I've been using Biobare Vitamin C, B, E & Ferulic Serum for years. It's not a well known brand, but I think it's pretty good & considerably less expensive than SkinCeuticals. Thanks for another great video!
My favorite vitamin C serum is the 20% Timeless and I have a little hack to further enhance its penetration to the skin. I apply The Ordinary glycolic acid 7% toning solution before slapping the serum to lower my skin’s pH so that it can be absorbed and sink better to my skin xD
I have Melasma. I have tried the Timeless and Maelove and I didn’t see a big difference in my skin. After a few years of trying these I decided to give the SkinCeuticals a try. It worked! I still have the Melasma but it is so much lighter and easy for me to cover with light makeup. I am so glad I tried it and won’t be without it. Thank you. ❤
Skinceuticals CE Ferulic has several unhappy customers these days. It looks like the product is not formulated as before and people also complain about the content of the bottle being dark brown upon first opening. I wish cosmetic products would have expiration dates and not only validity since opening. With expensive products, especially makeup ones carrying fragrance (i.e. lipstick), you can buy something that was manufactured years ago...and let's be honest...cosmetic ingredients are not immortal...like Twinkies. :)
@@lgcristea4203 I love the stuff. I haven’t noticed anything different 9r weaker in the formula. It’s the only Vit C serum that really works. I’ve wasted enough money on cheaper products that don’t work.
I used to get Vitamin C - with other vitamins & minerals in an IV DRIPP. 36,000 mg. 3 times a week. I never noticed any difference. I did this for a year
Hi Dr. Dray, I tried the Skinceuticals Vit C, but it is too expensive for me, and I didn't notice any changes in my skin. I am now using Timeless Vitamin C, and I like it. I do notice a skin brightening effect; I'm not sure if that's just in my head!💖
@@missyc3210 yes. Me too. It’s the only one I know of that’s air tight, a dark bottle and a pump to protect the integrity of the serum from air and light. Oh my gosh I sound like a commercial. Lol. It’s just that I love it. It’s made such a difference on my face.
@@Parththeblasphemous those are great but they are anhydrous. This makes them very stable but they are expecting you to mix it with a water based serum or toner first.
I use the Timeless VitC. My thoughts are that even if the vitamin C does not work, at least I’m getting some antioxidants through Freulic acid and vitamin E.
I’ve used multiple bottles of Maelove, Timeless, and Skinceuticals. I currently am not using a vitamin C serum. They are a bit irritating to my sensitive skin. I didn’t find either brand all that effective. I have a brightening cream prescribed by my dermatologist. I also use tretinoin. I would like the benefits from a vitamin C serum, but it always disturbs my skin’s moisture barrier.
I have been using C-Glow by Geek and Gorgeous for less than a month and have already noticed improvement in my skin (I suffer from melasma after two pregnancies). @@tracyholden5787 I order mine from the G&G website, and it arrives pretty quickly. I don't think it was even a week for my last order. I tend to wait til I need a few products so it's free shipping, but they've been consistently fast shipping.
Same, i love it. Its nearly impossible to get the timeless in the UK so I started using the C glow and now they even have a seperate uk website which us great. I really hate dropper bottles si i have added a pump. I wish they would just package it in an airless pump like Timeless though. That's my one nitpick
I use the Timeless Vitamin C because I simply cannot afford Skinceuticals. I really like the Timeless serum and keep it in my fridge, and have had no problems with oxidation. I once got a sample of the Skinceuticals serum and it was yellow orange 🤷🏻♀️; It felt very nice on the skin though.
I've been using the Paula's Choice Vitamin C Serum for a while now. I love it! But even using daily, I can never seem to get through it before it oxidizes, even being diligent not to touch the dispenser to anything. Though I am not a fan of excessive packaging, I feel these Vitamin C products almost demand being packaged in smaller aliquots for you to get your money's worth and better preserve the product before it oxidizes.
Same. It’s impractical to run to the fridge (downstairs) every morning. I extend the life of the product by cleaning the bottle after it’s finished and save it. When I open a new one: I use the new dropper to put 1/2 the contents into the clean old bottle, tightly screw on the new bottle’s cap to it and refrigerate. Top the fresh bottle with the dropper and use daily till empty. Then grab the second 1/2 from the fridge. Extended the life (and $ spent) of a bottle to the last drop for me! Also, I don’t keep all my “potions and lotions“ in the bathroom as it’s tiny and shared by multiple people. Gets to hot too many times a day! Might be overkill? But my bedroom is 2 steps away so it’s easy.
I do this, too. Started with Paula's Choice for a while and trying Vichy but hate their delivery system, so I transferred 1/2 to PC bottle and store the rest in the fridge.
I stopped using it bc of this. It being in a clear dropper doesn’t help. I only use Vit c in a pump bottle now 1 bc I don’t love serums bc they feel messy to me and 2 just makes me feel better about oxidation and 3 I am not spending $ on skincueticals 😂
I started using L’Oréal vitamin C serum. Believe me or not it works sooo quicker that anything else. But the bottle won’t long last . It’s oxidised and half a bottle left now its orangey . But my skin is soo brighter and skin is even . I’m looking anything actually work 🙃🙃
I've had Mohr surgery, the removal of a cancer cell on two areas of my face & it wasn't a pleasant experience. I spent ten hrs in a surgeons office with other patients taking turns at being numed, having cancer cells cut out, then the smell of your flesh being burned. After each session a photo was taken to see if they got all the cancer cells & if they didnt, the procedure was repeated over & over again. I unfortunately was one of those, I arrived at 7am & left 10 hrs later, swollen from the many injections because by the time you were called back into the office they had to reinject the area which was getting very painful. I wish they had a serum that would shrink the cancer cells prior to ambulatory surgery. Dr Dray your always on the top of your game, your so informative & knowledgeable. Thank you so much. I have been using timeless 10%. O also use glutathione which is also a great antioxidant. I would love for you to do a video on glutathione.
Oh my goodness, I've never heard of this surgery do I looked it up. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Cancer is just such an awful thing. Prayers that it never comes back
Very well done video. My favorite is the Timeless. I abandoned it to try SkinCeuticals twice (so 6 months) and saw no difference between the two. I stopped using vitamin C all together to save money and two wrinkles popped up - used it again - and they went away. So who knows. It’s cheap though so why not use it.
You liberated me from the vitamin c serum prison, Dr. Dray. After discovering your content a few years ago, I ditched the iffy vitamin C products for tried and true sunscreen and tretinoin, and my skin has never looked better. Thank you so much! 💛
May I know your what your skin type is and how old you are? What brand of sunscreen do you use? And how much percentage of tretinoin do you use? How long have you been using tretinoin? Do you use it everyday or every other day? Since tretinoin can only be used at night and it can be very drying, aside from sunscreen, do you use any serums/essences/moisturizers etc for AM routine?
@@clone2k696 My skin is on the oilier side, so I don’t use any moisturizers on my skin other than sunscreen, which I reapply throughout the day. I use .025% tretinoin 2-3 times a week. I’ve been doing it for a couple of years. For sunscreen, I’d say do what works for you, because what works for me may not work for others and vice versa 🙂
I have used Timeless 20% Vitamin c serum for years. When I stop for a while, I definitely see the dark spots from sun damage coming back, so I'll keep using it. I have had irritation from some others I've tried.
Great perspective on the “over-sciencification” 😁 at the end of the day, there is also value to people’s anecdotal experience with their skincare products and routines 🤷🏻♂️ I’m a Registered Dietitian and I really resonate with this message when it comes to food and nutrition as well - too many people these days reducing food to its “macro” composition and other nutrient components, when at the end of the day food is so much more! Love your content Dr. Dray 😊
My favourite vitamin C is Clinique’s fresh pressed booster. It’s 10% and you mix in with your moisturiser, so can use a serum before witch a different active without compromising on your shot of vit c. It really brightens my skin, when I’m not using it to when I am is like night and day! ❤
I use the Elizabeth Arden vitamin c with ceramide and I have no idea if it does anything. 🤷♀️ I do however love how it makes my skin feel! I find it very moisturizing and dewy..I buy it at Costco when it’s on sale. Great video
I’ve been using CE Ferulic for years and it works great! Yes it’s expensive but when it comes to my morning skincare routine, sun protection is key and Id rather use the best of the best. I cleanse with the peach slices salicylic acid cleanser, then I put on my CE Ferulic then a moisturizing sunscreen and that’s it. I usually get it for 20% off at my local derm so I wait for it to go on sale. To me it’s worth it & I’ve seen benefits with consistent results.
My favorite is the Vitamin C serum complex from Skin Lab. All I know is it never creates irritation (I struggle with this), it’s effective, and relatively affordable. Highly recommend if anyone is wanting to try different projects.
I like the Drunk Elephant vitamin C serum because it comes in a pump bottle. That way the product won't oxidize that quickly (compared to dropper bottles).
I like that my skin seems instantly brighter and a bit firmer, but my rosacea gets in the way. It's so irritating, even at 10%, that I can't use it even once a week.
I used to be that way (I have rosacea too) and just recently was able to reintroduce vitamin c. I focused on my repairing my skin barrier first, that was the key.
Thank you for this !!! You may have just saved me from burning my skin again. I tried a free sample of Tula’s Vit C and it burned my face so badly that I could barely tolerate simple moisturizer for almost a week. I was considering ordering a “brightening” kit from PC but am still nervous about using VC again. You just helped me decided to just say no. Thank you!!!
Timeless one, for me, is a great serum - I can see the glow up immediately- whatever it is in there, it’s definitely brightening. I hate that it satins my counter top with orange spots and the smell is of a burned match, BUT the glow up though….. 🤷🏻♀️
I might have contributed a lot to those google searches 😅... I have used vitamin C from dear Klairs and the minimalist one, and to be honest, I do not see any difference in my skin... But many suggest vitamin C as a must have for people my age but I haven't found one that actually does anything for my skin..
@DrDrayzday 💯💯💯 I tried all known and unknown vit C serums here in Europe, never worked for my oily skin, only irritations and gives me acne.Waist of money
ScinCeuticals is my favorite but I’m not sure for the reasons people think. I live in a dry, heavily polluted climate and I have very dehydrated skin. Many serums don’t really help because my skin has more water in it then the surrounding environment… I have some reactiveness to oils as well… too much occlusion can cause me to have a very rosacea like reaction. This serum seems to have a good balance of hydration and moisture that just packs a punch underneath a moisturizer. That balance I believe has reduced the amount of visible texture and comedones maybe because my skin isn’t overproducing oil to compensate for the dryness and dehydration. I have melasma & I can’t say it fades spots drastically like hydroquinone, but it overall has a brightening effect and seems to blur them in a way that makes them stand out less. I would say it is more for maintenance and preventing spots from worsening. It’s cosmetically elegant and feels very nourishing, it doesn’t seem to instantly evaporate which most serums seem to do on me. I appreciate its simplicity as well. It’s a luxury item for sure and if you’re looking for something to make a huge difference this might not be the it thing. But if you struggle with finding a serum that is hydrating and moisturizing without evaporating too fast , and if you need hydration but struggle with finding an essence that’s appropriate for you, then it’s worth a try. I also should add I do think that the free radical protection is there… that’s hard to explain but I notice a difference. When I’m without my serum I think I can handle it but then my skin suffers. I’m not sure why but it’s pretty obvious to my family because I get eczema, and dermatitis etc. In addition it’s a great alternative to prescriptions when pregnant because most actives like tretinoin, hydroquinone, and cystamine can’t be used during pregnancy.
i have ezcema prone skin and i use the magnesium glossier vitamin c serum and rihanna’s watch your tone vitamin c serum 💖💖 they are derivative vitamin c but i love them a lot and i’ve definitely noticed a difference in my skin. i think the magnesium pca & the 4% niacinamide in the serums helps the inflammation in my skin
PLEASE make a video about the specific chemical processes that occur with the skin in terms of ascorbic acid absorption. Include why some Derms say it absorbs and some say it doesn't. 🙏
Loved this video! I've been using the Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum every other morning for years now. It has reduced the uneven tone and texture of my skin more than any other product ever has and I have a feeling that has more to do with the licorice root extract than the Vitamin C.
I have 2 different The Ordinary vit c products and I have no plan on straying. They are quite high in percentage but I have not had any problems. Such a great value.
Vitamin C is the only skincare ingredient I never use and ultimately avoid because it never seemed to do much of anything for me, and would cause immediate stinging and burning upon application. I even tried this very same Timeless serum a year or two ago and…. Nope. Just stings. I’ve always had much better luck with skin-brightening/evening skin-tone with use of AHAs/BHAs, retinoids, niacinamide, licorice root, alpha arbutin, etc. Overall I don’t think Vitamin C likes or benefits my skin. It’s just simply not worth the immediate stinging and burning reaction for me. Too irritating, and I don’t even have the world’s most sensitive skin.
Another boomer, covered in AKs! Since my generation is now getting to ages 65 to 75, and since we all thought it was great to pursue that dark suntan when we were young, we are definitely paying the price now. And driving the market for products to reduce sun damage. Thanks to Dr. Dray for illuminating the efficacy of all these products so we can make educated buying decisions.
I started with “The Ordinary” and I liked it a lot. However, I changed to “Timeless” because I thought it was better… but the smell made me stop using it. Now, probably, I’ll try “Drunk Elephant” or “Paula’s Choice” because I want to try them, and I’ll return to “The Ordinary”.
I use Derma E Vitamin C in the winter which uses a derivative and Urban Rx Vitamin C which is L-ascorbic acid 10% in the summer. Both are affordable and I get no irritation which has happened with other products. So I'm sticking with those two.
Interesting topic. I have used Skinceuticals vitamin C serum since it first came out, mainly because of skincare articles suggesting it along with Retin A and sunscreen, all used for probably 30 years now? I don’t really know if it makes a difference but I do have nice skin for someone who’s 65 years old outside many hours a day in Southern California riding horses. At this point I’m afraid to stop, lol! P.S. No facial skin cancers either.
i highly recommend the banish acne scars vitamin c oil. i cant speak for the cream but this one has done wonders for my hyperpigmentation. it's $50, which is a little expensive, but it's super worth it.
I am so surprised to see this video from this Doctor who years back actually made a video how vit C is good for nothing for us. I commented than with many other women to challenge her and she was so sceptical towards our love for it. I love my vit C used it for 20 years.
I find that my vitamin c serum helps.a lot with my hyperpigmentation from acne! I use the Paulas choice super booster and its the only one I found that actually works for me (after trying many others). it also has ferulic acid and vitamin E). I try to use it immediately after washing my face and let it sit for as long as possible before using my other serums and moisturizer to help it stay stabilized and absorb on its own before mixing in other products (ordinary niacidimide + zinc, Vichy 89 hyaluronic acid, a Cosrx gel moisturizer and keils barrier repair cream in my extra dry spots around my nose and mouth). I love it and have rebought it many times!
Following using rice berry face serum by litttleextrra for three weeks, here's what I experienced:
Benefits: It effectively softens and evens out the skin, giving it a gentle glow.
Hi , where do you buy it

Dray

Hyaluronic Acid 1%
Ferulic Acid .5%
I kept my serum stable for a year in the refrigerator for one whole year without the ingredients which is clear and in a dark bottle. about a month a slight yellowing started, so I discarded what was a dropper size amount..
This is amazing news. I have melasma and started timeless. Need to get it 12+ weeks.
Wow. I’ve been using Timeless 20% C too. Wish my melasma disappeared. Are you using anything else along with it?

The Paula’s choice 10% Azeleic acid/ 0.5% salcylic acid serum has proven to be my miracle “skin brightening” ingredient in addition to my 0.025% tretinoin. I’ve tried vitamin C and I was sensitive to it. Just a reminder that it’s okay if you can’t tolerate this ingredient or it doesn’t work in your budget!
thanks for this - I’m going to try it
I really think the PC azelaic acid booster is their best product. I love it. I've tried the face theory one, and I DO like it, but I think the PC one has been easier on my skin.
gonna try this thanks
The Ordinary 8% Ascorbic Acid 2% Alpha Airbutin is amazing! I am Black and am prone to hyperpigmentation and that stops it in it's tracks.
I might give that one a try, I’ve used others from TO and while they didn’t irritate my skin they did nothing for hyperpigmentation. 🤔
Now this is the comment I came for. Just got finished watching Dr. V’s video on vit c. I wondered what Dr. Dray suggested for poc.
At $182/oz I’m passing in Skinceuticals Vit. C. I just started using Timewise COQ10 on your suggestion and am loving it.

@@midlifemom5829 where did u get a 40% off code?!?!
I've only tried 2 vitamin c serums. SkinCeuticals and Timeless. In my experience there was no difference in performance. Both worked great for me. Timeless is the winner cost wise and for results.
Do you still use the Timeless one?
I've been using Vitamin C serums (L-Ascorbic Acid form) for 3 year. I have used CEF, PCF, SCF from Skinceuticals, Obagi VC US range (C20), Obagi VC Japan range (C10, C20, C25), Timeless 20% VC, and a bunch of other products. I have oily skin, my face always tend very dull (sometimes dark) just 2h after cleanser. These VC serums definitely works on my skin, keeping me glow all the time.
Which one do u recommend the most
@@silverbowftw5225 I think it depends on your condition and preferences.

I got my mom to use it too for the anti aging benefits, she loves it
Yes, I LOVE that serum too! I've been using it for years. I like to put it over top of my 10% Vitamin C serum.
I like this too! It's moisturizing, and adding a few drops of the PC C15 booster thins the thicker serum out as well. 😊
Very interesting 🤔 That's a good info for DIYourselfers
@@auricia201 actually I've been putting a little pure resveratrol powder from lotioncrafters into mine and it mixes into the ethoxydiglycol very nicely.

Store in fridge
I’m looking anything actually work 🙃🙃
I simply love the Vitamin C 15% from Geek&Georgeous. It does not oxidize while kept in the fridge, it did wonders to my skin, I highly recommend it! ❤
Dr Dray has existing videos on glutathione.
I feel your pain. Went through it on my nose. Those injections hurt worst than giving birth. I pray never to go through that again.
Oh my goodness, I've never heard of this surgery do I looked it up. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Cancer is just such an awful thing. Prayers that it never comes back
@@elenab6297 prayers you never have to go through that again 🙏
Very well done video. My favorite is the Timeless. I abandoned it to try SkinCeuticals twice (so 6 months) and saw no difference between the two. I stopped using vitamin C all together to save money and two wrinkles popped up - used it again - and they went away. So who knows. It’s cheap though so why not use it.
My problem with Timeless is the smell. 😔
@@GaladrielValder how is olor the timeless?
@@rosangelagarciaenriquez8237 bad, like chicken soup…
@@GaladrielValder thank you for you answer
I thought it smelled like orange, :(
@anaromerovalderrama Skinceuticals smells bad too. Like hot dog water. It's the ferulic acid that gives it that smell.
The Geek and Gorgeous vitamin c serum works amazingly well. And they make each batch fresh before shipping it to you. Must be kept refrigerated.
just started using it!! hoping it works well for me
It’s great! Very affordable and accessible for us Europeans since its a European brand 👍❤️
I love the way Dr. Dray responds to comments. Just as blunt and straight to the point as she is in her videos😂
You liberated me from the vitamin c serum prison, Dr. Dray. After discovering your content a few years ago, I ditched the iffy vitamin C products for tried and true sunscreen and tretinoin, and my skin has never looked better. Thank you so much! 💛
same here! No more wasted money! I don't even need acid toners after using tretinoin for just a few months!
May I know your what your skin type is and how old you are? What brand of sunscreen do you use? And how much percentage of tretinoin do you use? How long have you been using tretinoin? Do you use it everyday or every other day? Since tretinoin can only be used at night and it can be very drying, aside from sunscreen, do you use any serums/essences/moisturizers etc for AM routine?
can i get tretinoin from a general practitioner?
Sunscreen is prison to
@@clone2k696 My skin is on the oilier side, so I don’t use any moisturizers on my skin other than sunscreen, which I reapply throughout the day.
Dray 😊
I use Naturium vitamin C serum. I like it and it’s not oily since I have oily skin
Great video
I use Timeless and have for years. I really like it. Thanks for this video, very informative!💜
Right now I’m using Timeless Vitamin C 20%! Thank you for this information, I appreciate it! TFS! 🥰
You are so welcome!
I've been using the Timeless 20% for two weeks now. So far so good. :)
This was incredibly informative & helpful. What if anything would you recommend/suggest using for dark spots/sunspots?
Use the Timeless here... thanks as always for the clarity! 💜💜💜
Thanks for watching
I only use Cerave Vit C, and I liked it, now I used the Paula’s choices and it’s good, I want to buy the skinceuticals but it’s expensively
@Draysgift how ?
Your honesty is really appreciated Thank you
I’ve been using CE Ferulic for years and it works great!
Please stop equating pricey to being the best on market🤦🏻♀️. It is defiantly not the best of the best. It's not bad it's just not a magical unicorn.
CeRaVE C serum seems to be a nice serum that makes my complexion glass like and diminishes lines
I like that my skin seems instantly brighter and a bit firmer, but my rosacea gets in the way. It's so irritating, even at 10%, that I can't use it even once a week.
Me too!
For rosacea you can try to use an AA water since they are less potent. AA does tend to flare rosacea, including mine
I love the skinceuticals- it is worth every penny for me
👍🏼
Timeless one, for me, is a great serum - I can see the glow up immediately- whatever it is in there, it’s definitely brightening. I hate that it satins my counter top with orange spots and the smell is of a burned match, BUT the glow up though….. 🤷🏻♀️
I might have contributed a lot to those google searches 😅... I have used vitamin C from dear Klairs and the minimalist one, and to be honest, I do not see any difference in my skin... But many suggest vitamin C as a must have for people my age but I haven't found one that actually does anything for my skin..
They seem to be hit or miss for many people
@DrDrayzday 💯💯💯 I tried all known and unknown vit C serums here in Europe, never worked for my oily skin, only irritations and gives me acne.Waist of money
I'll stick with Timeless Vitamin C 20%
👍
Loved this video! I've been using the Versed Stroke of Brilliance Brightening Serum every other morning for years now. It has reduced the uneven tone and texture of my skin more than any other product ever has and I have a feeling that has more to do with the licorice root extract than the Vitamin C.
I have 2 different The Ordinary vit c products and I have no plan on straying. They are quite high in percentage but I have not had any problems. Such a great value.
I use Derma E Vit C Glow Face Oil, as it contains tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate. My favorite formulation that I've used to date.
My favorite is by far the Timeless. But Truskin is also good (15%) and Purito has a new one which looks promising (20%)
So sorry for you. Works great for me!!!
Yeah, the sausage water smell comes from the ferulic acid😅
I use Derma E Vitamin C in the winter which uses a derivative and Urban Rx Vitamin C which is L-ascorbic acid 10% in the summer. Both are affordable and I get no irritation which has happened with other products. So I'm sticking with those two.
Why do you use derma E in the winter? I just purchased this one and curious. Thanks
Thank you! I was thinking the same.
I was thinking the same. But she is still sceptical about it, but maybe this time she presented the facts better
This may be the best informaton on vit C I have seen. Thank you.
Skinceuticals C and F MAKES MY SKIN TAN.
