Improving Your EPC Rating Tips and Tricks for Homeowners
As a homeowner, you may have heard of an Energy Performance Certificate rating, but do you know what it is and why it’s important?
An EPC rating is a measure of how energy efficient your home is, ranging from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient).
If your home has a low EPC rating, it can lead to higher energy bills, lower property value, and difficulty in selling or renting your property. Therefore, improving your EPC rating can not only save you money on energy bills but can also increase the value of your home.
A certified energy assessor will conduct the assessment and provide you with a report that details your home’s current EPC rating and areas that need improvement.
The assessment considers the following: Your home’s insulation and Draught-proofing. Heating system, that includes your boiler, radiators, and thermostat. Your Hot water system and lighting. Your Windows, including their size, type, and glazing. The report will also provide you with recommendations on how to improve your EPC rating and estimate the cost and savings of implementing those recommendations.
So, how can you improve Your EPC Rating?
The most effective ways to improve your EPC rating include upgrading your boiler to a more energy efficient model. You should consider installing double-glazed windows and insulating your home.
Switch to energy-efficient lighting and appliances, such as washing machines, refrigerators, and dishwashers. Consider installing Renewable heating options, such as ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, or biomass boilers.
Additionally, you can install reflective radiator panels to help reflect heat back into your room.
Improving your EPC rating not only saves you money on energy bills but can also increase the value of your home. Remember to always consult a certified energy assessor before making any major changes to your home’s energy systems.
