....you guys are acting if Shinee or Jonghyun was underappreciated or something. Jonghyun has always been recognized as one of the best singers in the industry. His technique was always recognized as unique and impressive. Shinee was one of the most successful boy groups ever. Their songs are iconic and were milestones in Kpop. I get that you guys want to remember Jonghyun, but give credit where it's due. Shinee was never an indie group. They never were unpopular. They're one of SM's biggest groups

When Lee Hi sings this song, it is as if her voice was restricted to come out, as if she's having trouble with breathing which fits the message of the song, makes it really meaningful. He made it different though. His strong voice is like what the lyrics wants you to do, take a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh. Great job.

For me, it's like this: Lee Hi represents the suffering people (as in, she's the one with heavy heart and sigh) and he represents the people who are trying to understand the suffering and comfort them (the way he sings "how can I understand it" with triple passion).

Because his voice is so deep it really give a completely different depth to the song. I lost it when he started singing loudly. It reminds me of everyone who is emotionally hurt but they can’t find comfort from others so they find it within themselves. Even if you tell people your story, they can’t understand it fully unless they can feel what you’re feeling. But we all know that no one can understand our stories better than ourselves. Maybe that’s why we all seek comfort within ourselves. Until we can’t hold it in or handle it anymore because so many emotions build up. That’s when we break down.
There are many people who don’t want to admit to their emotions. When they do however, they get scared and run away because it’s too hard and too much for them to handle. That’s why those that run away from their emotions are able to endure and hold out longer than those who admit to it.
Because admitting to our emotion is they same thing as losing because it’s so painful. It brings out the pain that we tried so hard to hide. We can’t face our emotions because we’re scared that it may be too hard or maybe even more than we can handle. Breathe is a song that Jonghyun wrote not only to comfort those who are going through a tough time but it was also written to comfort himself. He did what no one else could do for him. He did it for himself. But I think the emotions that he was going through and fighting against was much more harder than we could even imagine.
That’s why I thank him for writing this song. Because of this song, I’m sure many people who are going through something so unexplainable, painful, difficult, or hard, are comforted when they listen to this song.

This is one of the most powerful covers I have ever listened to. It’s a completely different take from Lee Hi’s, but still conveys the same message. Okay no, he suffered but his family was there for him, he sought out comfort and mostly got it, what we should be focusing on is mental illness and getting the help someone needs when they need it. Unfortunately sometimes a comforting word only lasts so long, he wrote this song, yes, but he also talked on his radio about how sometimes he just felt sad even when his life was good, how even when he got comfort from his family sometimes he just cried. He was suffering depression and the real sadness is that they didn't have the proper mental help he needed. Stop pinning the blame on people he loved the most. Suffering on the inside is not the same as depression.

And with the letter, we know now he had only one friend who really knew how he gone through all of this.
He said that many times : he was alone. He fells so lonely inside but also outside (This is why he released "Lonely"). Everyone had their life of course. I never, in my 31 years of life, heard a voice like Han Dong Geun. I just now realized this performance and I was already a fan of his. Idk how I fought back tears, but I did. Kyuhyun and Sungjae’s KOMS was on my top 2 list ( idol wise ) but I gotta give it to Han Dong Geun. Such raw emotion like he is talking to us instead of singing. Thats what makes an incredible singer. Man. What a voice.. speechless after that..

The original version to me is quietly comforting like 'everything sucks right now but I'm going to take a deep breath & keep going" and this version is so raw & desperate like 'I'm at the end of my rope & I'm trying so hard to hang on'. They are both amazing & beautiful & bring me to tears & I love them both.
It's interesting how with the 'Bob Ross' masked man, he sang the song very differently. He was acting as the friends/family that are angry at the person who committed suicide. Angry at the person that they didn’t talk to them. Angry at themselves that they couldn’t do anything about it. When he practically screams and asks what was I supposed to do, he is heartbroken. While Kyuhyun, who Jonghyun was his closest friend, sings it as an 'it's okay.' Like he is accepting Jonghyun's reason for dying. Like when he sang "it's alright it's alright. I'll hold you. You really did a good job." From what Kyuhyun said, he's been trying really hard to forgive himself for Jonghyun's passing. He was in the military for his mandatory enlistment so he wasn't able to truly say goodbye and go to the funeral like the other member. But, through this performance, Kyuhyun isn't doing it to win. He is telling his precious hyung that he did very well and their friendship's gonna last forever. With this mask on, however silly it may look, it is what is - a mask. With this mask, Kyuhyun can probably freely cry (you can tell he is in certain parts) and have a sense of personal space. He needed that space to comfortably sing the song and immerse himself in it. He didn't want the world to see his emotional expression or his tears.
