The problem is that no one really gets it. Everyone thinks that you just have to talk and get over it, but it’s not like that. Every single time I have to go to class and I know I have to talk because my grade is on the line, or simply the thought of having to talk terrifies me. It has completely taken over my life, i am constantly shaking and my heart beats so fast it feels like it’s going to get out of my chest, I get so red and nobody understands it. Nobody gets how ashamed I feel because I can’t get myself to do something that seems so easy but it’s so difficult for me. Anyways, thanks for coming to my ted talk.

People do get it, they just cba to tell you everything like they are talking to a baby. You are not a baby, grow up, if you have a fear, start tackling it! Simple stuff. Stop making excuses, just act on it. You are the one disabling yourself, not others. Put the blame of everything on yourself and change yourself.

That was the first day of my college teacher suddenly told me to come forward and speak on any topic,. . I was blank at that time... my voice was choked.. teacher came towards me and said.. "You have nothing to loose here,.. dont think about others , they will laugh on you on your mistakes and appreciate on your success.. so ,dont worry, be frank and tell whatever you know, you feel,.. I am with you .. ", this changed my perspective and either my voice was shattered, I spoke fearlessly.. And since then I kept motivating myself about stage daring... If anyone is reading this..don't worry.. You can do this!!!

I have the same problem, while giving presentation or smthg like that. I start to memorize things rather than understanding it and talk freely...Its sucks. I feel pressured and I forget everything. I forget how to speak... And as I am not good at speaking english, this always makes me anxious when I go infront. Today I had a public speaking in front of 600 people and I failed miserably. When i came into that stage, my mind was covered blank instantly. And when I was having a hard time giving a speech, I paused constantly, lost my speech started to talk non - sense. Although, I knew today I wasn't prepared enough and that I have learned how the public speaking works in front of 100s of people. Even though I lost my speech, I turned this horrific experience to a large and best opportunity and lesson I could get in my life. I know it sounds crazy, I left my emotions flow for many hours then I ended up being positive with myself. I gained huge amount of confidence after my embarrassing experience of todays speaking in front of a crowd. I got an opportunity to understand how I must react, settle my self, emotions and how I must be very prepared for my public speech. I don't know why, but it was embarassing and weirdly I feel very happy about the fact that I failed and analysed my faults.

You aren’t alone. I see this sort of issue all the time in the military. We get thrown into situations where we have to teach an entire company of soldiers and when you are pulled to do it it’s without warning or early notice so you essentially aren’t prepared. But we learn from it and you seem to be on the right path of learning from your mistakes.

@@mohammednajeb3716 of course. So what you want to do is to use cue Cards. Make sure your speech has sub headings and practice each part, over and over again until you have a pretty good idea of what you’re talking about. Now after that you want to record yourself saying the full speech and then listen to the recording of your voice each night or whenever you want to practise. It helps so much. What I did was read parts of my lines and than listen to the recording to see if I was right.

Heartwarming knowing I'm not the only one suffering with a public speaking fear - that "over to you"/spotlight moment is horrific and kickstarts a whirlwind of physical and mental symptoms that I, at the moment, am unable to suppress/manage. Work have been great about it, but there's nothing that lifts the soul like reading and listening to likeminded individuals. You're all super brave. We've got this!

I can speak really good when i am alone. My English is fluent and my pronunciations are perfect but as soon as i am put on the spot in a room full of people my speaking skills go down drastically. I stutter my words get stuck and my vocab goes zero. So the main problem for me is confidence. I can't even look the other person in the eye. I hope to overcome this fear.

I have a presentation next Tuesday to the whole school. Often, I feel like I can do it when I speak to myself, but then a nagging thought pops up in my mind the next moment and says, "No, you can't. You can't even speak confidently enough to your class, let alone to the whole school." I'm not... unprepared. Whenever I look at my teacher, she gives me a sense of relief and looking at everyone else with their gloomy faces jumbles up my mind. It's just that my mind goes blank and my words tangle like strings and the information that stores in my brain all disappear. I also want to do TED talks one day, you know, to share my experience with the people who want to hear. But, I aspire to be like this man. I'm only fourteen with so much else to do, often ostracising myself for every little thing but I journal a lot so yeah. Well, time to do my best.

I think from what I've experienced, many times it's because we're afraid of being judged by the people listening to our speech, and we lose our confidence 💔 this also means we are giving those people our power and energy. I've done this countless times and still do it and I'm just thinking that if we can get past that part of putting those people above us and not care about their opinions then maybe presentations and public speaking would be easier.

The biggest challenge of overcoming the fear of public speaking is people because they are so judgmental. People make it seem like there is something wrong with you, you're being defiant by not speaking up or that you'll just grow out of it. None of that is true. I've become convinced that it's just who I am and I'll never overcome it. Everyone is different, not everyone can become a great speaker (and you don't have to, it's okay)

I remember in 3rd grade, being the one who everyone turned to, to win a class debate.
Fast forward to 7th grade, I started stuttering with all the anxiety of public speaking.
And the ridicule got worse each year into high school and college.
I'm doing my Ph.D. degree now and I have gotten a better hold of my anxiety. I have realized the way forward is to do things that make you happy, have a positive frame of mind and if possible, to take up leadership positions - to put myself in front of everyone else to build the person I want to be. The journey may be hard for you right now, but I trust you. You can do it. Just keep going! 💪🏻

I think a hack to combat the fear for me is not in the focus towards practising the public speaking art in itself... it is when I fully to my core realise the shortness of life, that we will all go, that life can end any time... that your house will be occupied by another many generations that never knew your existence towards the house, 'belongings' that do not actually belong to you, everything goes and the only thing you really have is the present moment, experiences and your energy - which leads to a healthy level of disconnect to everything. Some call it 'not taking life too seriously'. I think that is what people should focus on and every area will change. Other fears may also fade and you will take on more opportunities with excitement because you don't take things too seriously and you want to really make the most of everything in life and try new things and embrace challenges with a new mindset, imperative to getting over fears. That deep insight is a journey and I would say my increase in confidence to speak (from a nervous wreck I once was) was a by-product of it. The issue is, this profound insight can only be learnt in time as you develop and undergo real life challenges and from ending up in the deep dark rock bottom of life mentally - as you get up, you will end up almost 'reborn' as a new person who can see the world from a different lens that life is so short, this time is all we have and life is one big fun game. In the grand scheme of things, nothing really matters. Not in a nihilistic way though. Anxiety only gets stronger and has a place in you if you give it the importance and attention it needs to thrive. Accept anxiety as a hardwired state in us that actually serves to protect us instead of fighting it. Anxiety is actually the bodies way of showing love to protect you from harmful things - of course we do not need anxiety now for things like public speaking but never fight it - instead acknowledge that the body loves you to do that and the anxiety TRUST ME will make peace and dissolve over time.

Even thinking about that makes me anxious. On the first day when i had to introduce myself (in google meet to be more clear) , i started trembling and i got nervous , even tho i only had to say my name and why i chose that major. My mind almost blew up and i just wanted it to end fast. i just wanted to cry like a little baby. I know that no one really will remember me , or maybe they wont even pay attention to me speaking but still , it's like someone is watching me with strict eyes and has the desire to catch me if i say something wrong. i always feel too much pressure on my shoulders and i dont rly know how to overcome this feeling. That's why i came here and i wanted to share my emotions about this fact. Internet , chatting , this kind of comments , are the only thing where i can freely say my ideas , my thoughts but i know that in the future i won't survive like this, because we are living in 21st century and the gen z is incredibly powerful. Speaking is our power to become succesful in the future , and im trying to look for the things which will help me to overcome the fear of public speaking.

It's all about facing our fears . I used to be shy and reserved and nobody could make me speak . But one day i questioned my fear .. like what are you so afraid of ? Is speaking in front of people that scary ? I couldn't answer because i knew that missing opportunities because i doubt myself for nothing is the scariest thing .
