  • Completed the Shep method of fixing my mechanical seal on the bike. This will be a temporary fix so I can run the bike to work out any other issues that may arise before I take the engine off the bike to replace the rear oil seal. The back cover will then be bored out for the proper, larger Honda mechanical seal, since the OEM part is no longer available for my model year. I didn't film putting on the RTV gasket to glue on the guts from the YAMaha part, but that was all completed as part of the Shep method.

Hey that was a good video! Do you have any advice on pulling the guts out of the new Yamaha seal?

I used a pair of pliers to hover it over my stove top to slowly heat it up until I could lightly pull it free. It's sketchy, I know lol. I've seen other videos that did it better, mine is pretty amateur.

Well atleast you did not wreck it, when I squeezed the top to pull it out the plastic ring cracked, I'm just not confident now to spend another 50$ but maybe I just did not heat it up long enough

@@michaelgamber5408 oh dang that sucks! In the next couple weeks I plan on dropping my engine and doing the proper fix or having a machine shop bore out the hole. But my bike seemed to run great all last riding season with the shep fix.

I'm thinking I'll open it up and maybe I get lucky and by cleaning it up and using the new polo mint it will be functional
