I actually liked the references to ancient mythology. It sounds right that ancient civilisations would look at Thena and over the years a whole mythology spans from that. That’s how mythology works, they’re not just made up stories, they originated from somewhere

kirby based his characters on ideas from the book "chariots of the gods" which was my generations "ancient astronauts" but without the bird hairdo. that book was huuuuuge, back in the day, along with "worlds in collision" and "pyramid power" and books on lemuria and atlantis. all poorly executed, i liked "we were not the first" as a better book, and some newer works by graham hancock. kkrby was clearly inspired to do his own version. the best book on this is called "hamlets mill" . ancient myths being ways to transmit astronomical knowledge.

Richard Madden was fantastic in the moment where he considers killing Sersi. You could really see him struggle between love and his duty/beliefs. Loved the way his eye beams flickered. But his solar suicide felt shoehorned and not really earned.

I didn’t interpret them as being literal “robots”. The celestials are the creators of universes so they are probably able to make sentient beings from real flesh and bones, but have them be “robotlike” as in they have a preprogrammed purpose. So I don’t think Phastos could “open someone up” from the Eternals.
Maybe I missed something, but I never interpreted it as them being made from technology.

    • @Malitor

I feel like I'm crazy because I found Eternals to be one of the most fascinating MCU movies to date. I LOVED the mythology and the characters and the visuals and the worldbuilding. I loved its ambition and how it tried to take the genre seriously. I think the religious and mythical elements (which I personally found to be the best thing about the movie) are also what will turn off a lot of people. It felt like a hybrid between Cloud Atlas, Darren Aronofsky's Noah and the Justice League. I really liked how, at times, the movie went in a more cosmic horror style using the Celestials. The scale of them, and Tiamut emerging from the ocean with a muffled scream as Sersi is turning him into stone, was very impressive. The ending with humankind seeing for the first time a Celestial in the sky was also both terrifying and impressive. I think there is a lot of potential with future Eternals stories if they lean into that, especially if they work on more humour to balance the horror. The movie isn't perfect, still enjoyable imo, but is shaking things up story-wise for the MCU. The Emergence will be referenced in future projects for sure.

Gilgamesh asked Karun who he was and he told him he was “Kingo’s valet” or personal male attendant. To which Gilgamesh said “like Alfred”. He didn’t compare Kingo to Batman at all. But for those of us who have been watching you for years Grace, we understand how you as Queen of the Batman Stans would have missed that and took the reference personal.

@@joeferrarini2851 what I do think is kind of a big deal though is Grace’s point on metaphors and how if we, as the audience, are suppose to accept the reality the film is creating, too many of the metaphors given don’t even work. On top of this, bringing in the DC franchise is suggesting what exactly? Getting their own parent company, Disney, characterization of Tinker Bell was even off. If we are to believe these ETERNALS are regal superior intelligent beings surviving thousands of years, how is it they’re misinterpreting modern literature so easily? Although I can acknowledge the flaws in the movie (some pacing issues in the beginning and a particular part of the final battle), I really enjoyed Eternals. I can see why it has such a mixed reception, but as someone who loves history, myths, gods and creation (I'm talking universe origins and other space stuff), the movie kept me hooked the entire way through. The Celestial stuff in particular were amaaaazing for me, and I just kept wanting more.
The one thing I wished they focused more on was the similarities between the Eternals and the Deviants. Deviants hunted life that threatened humans, and eventually began to attack humanity. Enter the Eternals who are now hunting the Deviants. They're essentially the same and serve the same purpose, except the Deviants evolved because they're organic beings. The Eternals are literally just upgraded Deviants, and it would've been awesome to see them come to that realisation themselves, and make that part of their motivation to challenge the Celestials.

Late to the party but Eternals is one of my favourite Marvel movies ever. It feels real, reflective of the real world and the characters are given real choice. All of them have their own autonomy on how they act as would be seen in complex moral issues displayed here. This makes the world expand and reflects the tone of, what I hope to be, the future of the MCU. Really showing types of people from all over the world and what we really see. It feels slick and luxurious, crafted with care. I am worries for the backlash and that it will delay future diversity and risk taking going forward. So many people have wanted to see themselves on screen and we have been forced to either fabricate what we wish was us or find fragments of ourselves in other characters. All in all, love this movie

the build up was so great and the characters conflict is very intriguing. the deviants have their own mind, their own fear and feel the need to revenge their kind. but the ending doesn't live up to all of those build up.

Ikaris wasn't weaker, it's just he had never fought other Eternals before. I agree that we could have seen more of Tiamut, the new celestial that was emerging, to raise the stakes, but that's a small quibble really.

There were a surprisingly low number of offensive powers in comparison to defensive powers in the Eternals. Fastow , no better then tony stark (yea he can make it out of nothing apparently, but i mean he didn't exactly make or come up with anything super extraordinary) Thena the best warrior probably would have lost to hella thors sister js, Sprite got nothing on strange, ikiris got nothing on strange, Hawkeye literally could have killed Ajax the eternals leader lmfao...that being said lets be honest wanda / vision /dr strange the hulk , or even thanons for that matter could have single handedly taken apart and killed off the eternals . Given they had the full insight into the eternals and powers each one had ,as the eternals had the knowledge of all the avengers..
I mean Thor withstands the blast of a dieing star/sun just to make a weapon...ikiris flys into sun to die..🤣
Captain marvel gets a blast from a infinity stone..shrugs it off
Ikiris blast druig with his strongesr eye blast... druig whos has no special powers other then mind control and is afraid ikiris will be his death..gets up and walks off the strongest eternals power move like he only got the wind knocked out of him 🤣🤣🤣 really!

Funny enough I think you are right. But some themes definitely had to be changed. For example, I would have reduced the cast to only five. Make them only immortals and gods, get rid of the robots and aliens identity. Also don't make the earth an egg of an Eternal. And explain in a more detailed way why everyone is important, so the betrayals are granted and relevant to the story. Finally, use the Disney+ series to introduce mutants and inhumans as descendants of the Eternals and Deviants.

Remembering the years-long build-up to Avengers: Infinity War and the story being a fight to save half the people in the galaxy. Being able to learning the backstories of all the characters they meant something to all of us. And with Eternals being a couple of hours and the story being the destruction of the world in hands of people we really didn't know or trust. It was hard to feel like the ending had much meaning.
