Why react to a band and not React to their BIGGEST HIT " I Don't Believe in Love"????? That's the one you need to react to! Its an awesome song....... and video.
Not sure how I stumbled on to your channel, but it is awesome! I love this song... You almost had me in tears! Would love to see your take on Cheap Trick's Robin Zander and the song The Flame. God bless!
empire is a conceptual album and definitely worth a full review im sure you'll find listening to it as a full story rather than a bunch of songs alot deeper
My dad died when I was an infant. When I was young 3-6 I had dreams of being with my dad and exploring with him. Later when. I was 16 or so I found a tape he had that had this song on it. Kinda felt like he was there with me. Still kinda feels that way when I listen to it. Amazing song.
I played this song at my dads funeral. I'm a daddys girl and this song always reminds me of my dad. I cant get past the first verse without crying ❤❤❤. He is always with me!
Watching Elizabeth's eyes dart around during the solo, following the panning music, warms my heart. Here is a person who has spent her whole life involved in complex, sophisticated music, yet she hasn't lost that childlike innocence involved in hearing a new, great song. She is so entertaining...
In 1992, I nearly lost my child, he died and was brought back 6 times over 3 months aged 5. He is now 33, has a profound learning disability as a consequence. This song alone gave me strength and got me through that time. It is and remains his favourite song to this day. I will be eternally grateful to GT and Queensryche for connecting with us in such a profound and unexpected way.
Jesus, man... I'm glad your little boy is with you but I think going through something like that, having to watch my child die on repeat, would kill me.
2 things: 1. Her reactions to the song and explanation made me appreciate this song even more 2. She displays a very natural and pure reaction/emotion towards music
I used to play this for my daughter when she was a baby to help put her to sleep. I would walk around with her while it played. In February of 2020 we were lucky enough to see Queensryche live and hear the song together again while singing our hearts out along with them. When she was 18, she asked that her first tattoo be matching tattoos, which we did Silent Lucidity. She is 25 now. Every time I hear this song, I tear up. It has so many great memories. It gave so much more to us than just music.
I had this beautiful song played at my brothers funeral after his 8 mth terminal lung cancer journey. This song gets me through the hard times when I really miss him. Thankyou Queensryche ❤💙💜
Sorry to hear about your lose. Billy Joel, “only the good die young”. That’s the song that bring me close to my big bro that passed at 21. This is a great song too.
Hi Julie i'm from Brazil and i'm so sorry about your brother. Godbless you and your family in the name of Jesus Christ. Believe Him because Hi is the Lord of lords and love you. Bye!!!
That's a great song for a reaction but his best vocal performance is Queen of the Reich take it from a fan of 33 yrs of which most of it was as my favorite band
Arguably the greatest live vocal performance by a rock singer of all time, Geoff Tate was in God mode mid 80s to mid 90s and this as good as it gets IMHO
@@rushy67rr97 I would have said the same thing before mid November 2020 but Floor n Nightwish from Wacken 13 is unbelievable so change it to best male n you got it
Yeah, this is much more palatable and the vocals are beautiful but I really had trouble with Empire after hearing OPM. It is a masterpiece almost all the way through. It has standouts in the same way that Dance of Eternity is a step above anything else Dream Theater did on Scenes From a Memory. It’s above perfect. Learning to Live is a good contender with the weird alternating 15/8 opening. That one has singing too! I would never choose this song for any reason except the vocal performance here has a lot of range and it’s spectacular. Not keen on it otherwise.
My eyes fill up too! One of the most memorable moments of my life was being able to see Queensryche on the Empire tour and watch Geoff Tate and the band work his (their) magic with this song. Great times!! 👍 🤘. I respect that man as a musician. Best voice ever. Listen to The Lady Wore Black.
@@amlo0500 you confuse mediocrity with underrated. Thanks for the music lesson and media lesson that I do not need.If you want to talk music in detail get in touch with me.But again,I manage to find a “ know it all”.And here you go,know it all….underrated means they only sold 6,000,000 albums in the U.S.,according to Wikipedia, and they are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but Jay Z , Madonna, and the Go- Go’s ARE! If you can give me a better word than “ underrated”,I would like to hear it.One of my other favorites not in the Hall of Fame is Grand Funk, who sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles and were thrown off as an opening act for Led Zeppelin because of jealousy….what word can you use to describe them.I know one and it starts with a “ U”. Please reply …I would like to hear your trolling answer to my “ compliment” of Queensryche…you know, the ones I called musical geniuses.
@@robertwalker1803 Your reply begs a question.. even a year later. Are you still an anal retentive music snob? This may come as a complete surprise to you but the magic of music is that it touches us all in distinctly different ways. Because of this, we view the bands who sing these songs in unique and personal ways. No two people see a artist/band the same waythus affecting their view of a band's "standing" in the music world. Apparently you are unaware of this...ignorant if you will. Finally, I would be amiss if I didn't point out your description of the original poster as a "Know It All" is actually the perfect self -assessment!
I recently lost my husband of almost 38 years. To me this song means open my heart not only my eyes and my husband is still here with me. That’s what I want it to mean anyway.
I am so terribly sorry for your loss Lisa. Your husband will be with you for ever. Please keep that in your heart and live the remainder of your life to the fullest. I would assume he would want that for you.
It's ethereal. This song has gotten better with time. I remember when it came out and was on MTV. I didn't appreciate the enormity of this song. I certainly do now, decades later.
I agree. At the time, it was just a good song off a good record. In my later years, it hits my soul as if it brings me to this dream state the song is portraying. It's like light rushing into me, making me feel happy and sad at the same time. Happy because of it's beauty and love, but sad that I'm in a physical world devoid of those things. It's like a longing for my true self. Hard to explain. But, this song has aged extremely well.
@@itsalwayssomething7490 It really has aged well. I'd consider it the 1990's Stairway To Heaven, not because of the topic, but from the enormity of the sound and the layers of textures, through lyrics and music.
Let's be honest here. In High School, all the metal guys wanted was loud and fast. At least in North America. I went to school with dozens of them, knew many more outside of school. Anything slow sucked. Of course there were always exceptions, but it takes maturity age and wisdom to move on from the basic metal pallet.
@@thecocktailian2091 Where I come from, we call that particular kind of idiots 'Elitist Snobs'. If they ever learn to be open-minded about ANYTHING AT ALL EVER, that's a complete miracle. @@thecocktailian2091nope, not for me. Give me stories…to go along with my D&D and fantasy novels. Dream of the Archer, Holy Diver, ohhhh and rock operas!! OMG Elizabeth hasn't done any rock operas! Thick as a Brick…Animals. The Wall of course. Paradise Theater.
AJ Reynolds, I have to beg to differ. There is only 1, that can't be truly touched. Even as he got older, his voice got even better! Steve Perry(Ex-lead singer for Journey) is a rock God, with his vocal's. Geoff, as well as countless other vocalist's have tried to match the king of vocal's, as they all fell short. Don't get me wrong, Geoff has some killer vocal's, as well. But, Steve is in a whole other realm of his own! If I am not mistaken, the style of Geoff's vocal's, was inspired by Steve's vocal's, how he started out with his strong ability to get the word's out perfectly, then changing to that raspy voice, that he transferred to, after his surgery, that he was still able to get the clarity, but he was able to hit the right note's, with that rasp integrated into it, toward's the end, that made it even more unique. Like I said though, don't get me wrong, Geoff has his own level, as well. But, like I was sayin, Steve has such a unique voice, that has never been rivalled before. Arnel Pineda(The lead singer from the Philippines, who took over for Steve, in Journey.), came close, but still couldn't fit in Steve's shoe's... 30 years for me and exactly the same reaction. Not just tearing up, but rolling down my cheeks, and I'm not an emotional person. It just takes you somewhere deep in your mind. Somewhere you maybe should visit more often, but don't want to?
Before I watch the video, I want to tell you that this song means the world to me. My best friend since childhood loved this song and has since passed away (I even made sure they played it at his funeral). In the early 90s every time this song came on MTV or on the radio, we all had to shut up so he could listen to it, no matter how many times he'd heard it, he loved it every damn time and I just wanted to sing the song. Back in the day we got to annoying each other sometimes, as longtime friends are want to do, but in the years since his passing, I would give anything to go back and be with him listening to it just one more time. I just hope you like it as much as I do.
Amazing song from them. You are going to love it. To really see Geoff Tates vocal range you should give Take Hold of the Flame (Queensrÿche - Live in Tokyo) will blow you away
Silent lucidity is a masterpiece. I first heard it 30 years ago as a 20 something and now I'm nearing 60, it is still my favoirite song. Well done in breaking down and interpreting your take on it.
Dam dude. Time really flys. 30 years ago I lost 10 dollars I was going to use to buy diapers for my baby boy. My wife and I argued over it and I remember it like it was yesterday and my boy is 30 now. It kinda hurts a little. Sorry man something you said sparked that memory. Lol
This song is sacred to me, my wife's heart stopped, and thank God the doctors were able to revive her, but it left her with a significant level of anxiety relating to death, whenever she's struggling, I sing this song to her, thank you for this one
@@jasonnielsen5976 well, you said the doctors were able to revive her. I took that to be good medical care. Or at least medical care that involved some goodness(es)… I was also, I admit, making an oblique reference to Daniel Dennett: th-cam.com/video/5Hlbg4-YNfI/w-d-xo.html
This song was my wife's favorite if the music I introduced to her, and the last song she listened to before she died of cancer at just 29, leaving our 9 mnds old daughter behind. Somehow I feel the warmth if the song is her watching over us, in a way. I am not religious, but it's like a legacy, or a testament of sorts, she left her love for us in this song.
Anyone else just appreciate the beauty of her smile? I enjoy the analysis but I get genuine enjoyment out of her smile when listening to music. Thank you for your expertise and smiles 😊
@@toddblankenship3385 I agree. I value a beautiful intellect over looks any day. But I must say having having a classy woman with a beautiful smile convey that intelligence... amazing. Great entertainment for sure. I love finding these channels that still have class and entertainment in today's world
When I first heard this song my Grandma was in the hospital. Both sets of my Grandparents were so loving and caring and fun. I first heard the line “someone close to you leaving the game of life” it fit so well (we knew our grandma wouldn’t get well) so this song will forever remind me of her, and in the very best way.
Back in the 80's Queensryche got a lot of shit for "not being metal enough". I was like "not all metal needs to sound like bones and chunks of steel tossed in an industrial grinder".
Thank you! Hated this simplistic idea/take on metal from some of my friends as well. So many "fans" hated Load from Metallica for that reason, and I was like, this is very skillfully produced metal that's able to appeal to a much larger audience and is more easily digestible, doesn't make it "bad" metal, just makes it more mature.
I got misty eyed watching your emotions shift with each change and color of the song. It’s the most beautiful thing in the world to witness someone experience a masterpiece for the first time. This is a privilege. This is what life is truly meant to portray.
I met him at a bar in downtown Seattle in 2019. He speaks like he sings. Rich baritone voice and you can tell he has a lot to say but doesn’t. It was really cool.
That must have been nice! I loved growing up in Seattle. Well near Seattle anyway. Just across the bridge. Got to see so much music performed and being created. Very lucky
that ending cello is familiar because it's Brahm's "Lullaby" and that is genius using it layered on the guitar riff by Chris DeGarmo. Silent lucidity is just a timeless song.
You can tell when Charismatic starts to be blown away when she stops analyzing the voice so much and begins analyzing the emotion more. Love to hear and see it. Rock on all.
Love this song. Had a friend who died in college and it was played at his funeral...seeing his wife and kids get so emotional while it played will always be connected to this song for me. His last message to his kids.
Like Troy said, you really should try the full album Operation Mind Crime.. and not just a few songs off it. It's a concept album that tells a full story so while the songs work great alone , they are best with the context of the other songs . Glad you found them .
I couldn't agree with you more, Geoff really shines in eyes of a stranger, my favorite is take hold of the flame live in japan 1984, he sang that whole show with such intensity. Then the 2nd to last song he shows his chops and pulls off take hold without a hitch. That man has a majorly controlled head voice.
I have always remembered this song since I was 11 12 years old, it had such an impact on me It stuck with me all these years, It's like a supernatural song of angels,
Oh, Elizabeth...I am crying along watching with you analyzing the vocals, and I have loved this song since I was a teenager. The sincerity in your eyes and the reactions across your face are so touching. I can actually feel them. Thank you for always being so authentic and being able to express what you are trying to say with just the right words. You are truly amazing. My interpretation of this song has changed slightly over the years however I always end up back in my childhood experiencing some of the nightmares I had to live in my real life. My grandparents were my saviors and because of them, I survived. Unfortunately, they both passed within 6 months of each other when I was 18. As I grew older I always considered this as a reminder of them telling me to keep going. We are here, watching over you. Just the other day I received tickets to go see Geoff Tate (No longer with Queensryche) perform in October 2021, at a local venue. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am to see/hear him perform.
One of the most emotional and touchiest rock ballades ever performed in history! Love to see that next generations apreciade this masterpiece and understand the message too; thanks a lot!
Your so beautiful and professional in your analysis of this song, the eightees had so many bands and so many songs I never heard this until now, cheers !!!
My son died March 20th, was born March 27th 1987. This song came out in 1991. It blew me away. His vocals and the imagery of the video are extremely powerful to me. I've never been able to listen to it without it bringing a tear to my eye. Every year, I play this on his birthday. He's riding the whims of his mind, and his soul is free to fly...
I'm sorry for the loss of your son. Your last sentence is so powerful. I lost my brother to suicide and those words express how i hope he is faring wherever he is now.
That is a beautiful remembrance. I am so sorry you had to experience the loss of a child. I hope listening to this song can make you feel that he is near you. Love and peace to you.
Sincere and heartfelt condolences. This song connects with many a Father and Son. I sang my boy as a baby to sleep with the song hundreds of times. He's 22 yrs now! I still dedicate the song to him when I sing it at Karaoke and it brings emotion. I can't imagine the emotion it brings to you. I'm glad you have the connection to your Son through the song. Maybe in a small way it helped you to heal. Take care, rock on and live each day with some joy as "time is fleeting".
I heard this song as a kid, i said to myself im gonna sing this song to my child as a lullaby. That was 13 years ago. Yestereday he was humming this song while we were driving home, he's now 13 years old
This song is a masterpiece, and it doesn't even display the full range of Geoff Tate's capabilities. He is in a lounge chair on this song taking a break.
This has been my favorite song my whole life. It's mine and my dad's song. He had an accident in 1987 he broke his back. He spent a lot of time in the hospital and had 7 major back surgerys and was paralyzed for 2 years. There were scary times. He always told me " When you get upset or scared just listen." He was my best friend. I lost him in 2002. He comes to me in my dreams.
Sorry you lost your dad. My dad broke his back in 87 to. He was carrying a casket backwards up some stairs. He also had several surgeries and was paralysed for a few years. He is still alive and now has a neurological disease called arachnoiditis and has tremendous amount of pain. I can at least relate to you at some level. Also, this is one of my favorite songs.
They were my first concert when this came out in 1991 and I will tell you they sound EXACTLY like the records live. Watching Geoff Tate execute all of these challenging vocals was such an inspiring and shaping moment for 13 year old me.
When my daughter was born prematurely and was struggling in the NICU, I had a portable cassette player that I placed in her incubator/warmer. This was the first song on that tape and it played on a loop. It was the first song she ever heard after being born.
Your comment gave me chills, as I had a similar experience with my extremely ill premie twins. However, their etheric musical intro to life was postponed for several months while in the NICU, as stimulation of any kind was life threatening. Our interpretation and introduction to life were very similar. Good vibes to you and yours.
When my daughter was born a nurse placed the wards transistor radio in her crib to help her sleep as I couldn't be with her 24/7, it actually worked well. It was 1992 & Madonna's song, "This Used to be my Playground" was played repeatedly as it was her newest release @ the time. Oh the memories, I have just the one child so my memories are very vivid.
This song has been able to bring me to tears for almost 35 years. Lyrically it is STUNNING. The imagery is utterly mesmerizing and breathtaking. And the music is epically profound and dreamy - it reaches inside you - into that place that very few things can breach and it leaves your emotions spinning in the best and most touching way. It’s an entire journey - a banquet of sound. So happy to see you *feel* this one too. Also the dialogue that you hear overlapping in that climactic section - they are saying (as far as I can tell) something like… “I can't do this… visualize your dream and record it in the present tense - put it into a permanent form and if you persist in your” (or maybe he says all) “efforts, you can achieve dream control - dream control, dream control…” (Then you hear the voice say) Help me
In times when i only had 6 CDs (with less than 15 songs each) in the cd changer, i loved such masterpieces. Literally no bad song on it. Love it ever since.
I lost my dad suddenly 15 years ago. Some of my favorite memories of him involve listening to Queenryche. This song stirs up a lot of emotions for me. My interpretation of it is based around my dad's death. He was in my dreams a lot for many years and it always made me feel like he was watching over me. I feel connected to him and his memory everytime I listen to this song.
Me too. Lost my father and mother around 15 years ago. Same feels. This and Mike and the Mechanics song “Silent Running.” Every time I hear these songs I get the feels
My mother loved Queensryche. I grew up listening to bands like them. Plus, I'm a Washington state native so it's a matter of pride for us. Still, to this day, have her Queensryche t-shirt pinned to my wall. RIP mom. You had great taste in music.
The metal genre has been notoriously dismissed as banging, crashing and screaming over the years when in actuality its one of the most technical forms of music.
I had that discussion with my Mother yesterday, she's into Motown and Northern Soul. Which is great music, but my 'thing' is rock, of all types. I was listening to some stuff and she just said can't tell what they're singing, it's just noise. We had to have 'the talk' lol. She just needs to train her ears....
Yes!! Especially prog metal. Amazing virtuoso musicianship, complex songwriting and intricate melodies. *Dream Theater* are the OG’s - but Queensrÿche and Fates Warning came around the same time, and helped establish the genre into the deep amazing rabbit hole it is today 🕳
Geoff's daughter had a dream that her dad died. He wrote this song for her to teach her how to control her dreams, but not only her nighttime dreams but also her lifetime dreams.
Truly some of the most beautiful songs have been written by musicians for their children. You just can't compete with that kind of sincerity and tenderness. Unlike romantic love, it's selfless.
"Its hard to place my finger on exactly what it is, but this song feels incredibly emotional to me." That is EXACTLY how I feel every time I listen to this songs. It's haunting, beautiful and touching...and I still dont know why after decades of listening to it.
Give the full Operation: Mindcrime album a listen, especially for songs like "Suite Sister Mary" and "Eyes of a Stranger" - Geoff's vocals are particularly outstanding on those 🙂
I have sung this to my daughter every night since I found out I was pregnant with her. I swear she recognized it when she was born. It is an emotional song for lots of people. For me, it was a big part of my childhood with my dad, who is no longer with me. So by singing it to my daughter, I feel like I'm connecting her to him. Watching your reaction made me teary; I adore this song and this band. So glad you liked it :)
Haha, just commented, I felt was no choice but dedicate this one to my daughter since she was in her mother's womb. I just hope it becomes just as meaningful to her.
The distorted voice in the instrumental is saying "Visualize your dream. Record it in the present tense. Put it into a permanent form. If you persist in your efforts, you can achieve dream control."
Damn! I used to enjoy this song like... 25-30 years ago. But now, re-listening to it as a father, and paying attention to the lyrics for the first time, it made me shed a tear... or two.
Aye. I remember when it came out - I needed things a bit faster in that time period so I didn't pay attention to it, even though it was overplayed on the radio 24/7. Now I have a 4-year-old son... It's like I never heard this song before and it's amazing.
Full album react time! Queensrÿche - Operation:Mindcrime One of the best albums, if not the best album ever. I could listen to the entire album a million times and it never gets old. Not one bad track in the bunch!
I really love this song. What I pictured 1st time I heard this song was a child falling asleep with it's one remaining parent after losing the other. Wracked by pain and grief and almost numb the child finally finds sleep and the parent finds marginal comfort in vicariously thinking about what the child must be dreaming to be at such calm and peace. At the end it sounded almost as if the evil in the world was trying to wake them up.. but the will to stay asleep prevails. Truly a mesmerizing song. I consider it more of a ballad lullaby.
@@leftcoaster67 I have the unpopular stance of preferring Empire. I get blasted every time for saying it lol. That said, I still love and recognize the brilliance of Mindcrime.
I don't think too many people would consider Queensryche metal by today's standards. More like prog rock. Maybe Nevermore/Enslaved/Death or any other band that combines amazing musicianship with extremity.
I love how this is the first song chosen, out of all the songs they have. For me, I was kind of giddy, seeing the reaction to this song, knowing full well what’s to come. As this song does not even begin to explore Geoff’s vocal range. The hook has been set. Now, it gets interesting!! Side note, I have watched a few other reactive video’s on other Queensryche songs.
The album Empire is one of the best produced recordings of all time. It's amazing what they (and the producer) did. It was more than 30 years ago and you can virtually walk through the sound, hear everything clearly, everybody has their own space of sound. The vocals are out of this world. Relistening the album just now, please do "Anybody listening?" from the same album, amazing song and vocals! Another vocal masterpiece is "Someone else?" from the "Promised land" album.
I second Anybody Listening.... That song creates a lot of space for Geoff's vocals to breathe, and is another "anti-metal" song for what was considered a metal band.
Empire is one of the few albums that I will listen through from start to finish with most of the songs as a favorite. Definitely listen to Anybody Listening and Empire. Also, another rainy night of course...
I'll second th esecond for _"Anybody Listening."_ Also, just a thought, but is anything they did not a vocal masterpiece? Even the songs I didn't really _like_ left an impression because of the lyrics and that damn *impeccable* voice. Unique + impeccable are literally near _unique_ and happen maybe once or twice a decade. From Rock, to R&B to Broadway to Opera, he literally could have sang any style he wanted to.
The concert album _Operation: LIVEcrime_ adds a tremendous force multiplier / energy to the _Operation: Mindcrime_ material. Great becomes stellar. Possibly the greatest live performance ever captured in Prog Rock: Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo, and Scott Rockenfield in-particular are at the top of their respective games.
I got the Operation Mindcrime album when it came out. I listed to it end to end twice in a row I was so blown away by it. I don’t remember doing that with any other album.
Definitely do 'Take Hold Of The Flame' Live from Tokyo '84. You will be blown away. Then do 'Eagle Fly Free' or 'I Want Out' by Helloween. Geoff Tate and Michael Kiske's voices will definitely move you. Enjoy the Metal #ElizabethZarhoff
"Silent Lucidity" was written about a person having a lucid dream. ... DeGarmo got the idea from a book called "Creative Dreaming". "The song is about the ability to realize that you're dreaming, recognize it, and actually participate in the dream, shape it, change it," the guitarist said in a 1990 interview.
I came to find this. I've been venturing into lucid dreaming and astral project and other meditative states and it's amazing. I'm a yoga instructor as well so it's been a passion of mine recently.
@@ThomasTallant children are all very open to the astral realm and we get conditioned out of it as we get into society. But to step away from society and into meditation we can find it again. Look up Collective Evolution. They speak to that kinda stuff often.

Same here. I always thought it was a Pink Floyd rip off. Now it's my favorite.
Elizabeth, most people think metal lovers only love the harsh sound, but it is the stories they tell that other music has lost.
Yeah. Unfortunately there have always been some really weird Elitists who think it HAS TO BE LOUD in order to be Music.
Very few for sure... but Midnight from Crimson Glory could.
Sorry buddy, there is one king of prog rock vocalists, and his prime was his entire career. His name is Rik Emmet
I feel like Mike Patton would argue that...lol

I thought I read it is a lullaby. I remember the bad dream, but it was a Tate interview. It's a great song.
Truly some of the most beautiful songs have been written by musicians for their children. You just can't compete with that kind of sincerity and tenderness. Unlike romantic love, it's selfless.
"Jet City Woman" or "Eyes of a Stranger" Geoff's voice has always been amazing... Great reaction, love your insights.
This is literally one of the greatest songs of all time
"Its hard to place my finger on exactly what it is, but this song feels incredibly emotional to me." That is EXACTLY how I feel every time I listen to this songs. It's haunting, beautiful and touching...and I still dont know why after decades of listening to it.
Give the full Operation: Mindcrime album a listen, especially for songs like "Suite Sister Mary" and "Eyes of a Stranger" - Geoff's vocals are particularly outstanding on those 🙂
Don't forget The Mission! And every other song honestly haha
My favorite rock opera
@@gmorkins6006 And "I Don't Believe In Love" and yes, everything else 😂
Agreed. Another great one is Eyes of a Stranger. Geoff really reaches out there.
I would love to see her react to Eye's of a Stranger
“Another rainy night (without you ) “
is a another great song that really shows how talented this band is !!
Me too! I have sung it to all of my daughters when they were little. It chokes me up so much now.
\
I love this comment!
Haha, just commented, I felt was no choice but dedicate this one to my daughter since she was in her mother's womb. I just hope it becomes just as meaningful to her.
Same! I sang this song to both my kids every night for years along with a couple of other songs. It is beautiful. My favorite all time song.
That is wonderful you just made me tear up a bit
Silent Lucidity is the feeling of true love without spoken words
The distorted voice in the instrumental is saying "Visualize your dream. Record it in the present tense. Put it into a permanent form. If you persist in your efforts, you can achieve dream control."
If you were to look-up the phrase, "how to control your dreams," you will essentially find these instructions. Curiously enough, they work!
Fun fact: controlling your dreams is called 'lucid dreaming'
Thanks! I never looked up the lyrics, but I've loved this song since it first came out!
For years, I believed it said, “...you can achieve a dream come true.”
Thank you
Musically speaking...this song is a masterpiece. That guitar, the strings in the background and the backup vocals...DAMN!
Even lirically it's a complete masterpiece... A true work of art 👍

Damn! I used to enjoy this song like... 25-30 years ago. But now, re-listening to it as a father, and paying attention to the lyrics for the first time, it made me shed a tear... or two.
I completely agree. I loved this song years ago but now it means so much more.
Me too
Aye. I remember when it came out - I needed things a bit faster in that time period so I didn't pay attention to it, even though it was overplayed on the radio 24/7. Now I have a 4-year-old son... It's like I never heard this song before and it's amazing.
@@vynnyn5489 I guess that's why they say parenthood changes you... You see everything under a new light. Enjoy, mate.
Nothing like to take care of a son to understand and feel the spirit of this music.
One of my very favorite vocalist, thumbs 👍
Full album react time!
Queensrÿche - Operation:Mindcrime
One of the best albums, if not the best album ever. I could listen to the entire album a million times and it never gets old. Not one bad track in the bunch!
Silent Lucidity is (IMHO) Queensrÿche's masterwork. From the twelve string guitar, to the orchestration, to the vocal range Geoff Tate exercised.
Magnum Opus.
He could sing very high as well. “Take Hold of the Flame” live is a good one to check out. Also, “Queen of the Reich”. He’s incredible.
Lot of good QR suggestions, but this one is the most "geoff tate" vocal you'll get...
Take Hold of the Flame in Toyko 1984 is soooo good!
@@NorthgateLP Yup, that’s the one I was thinking of 😁
First song i ever heard was The Lady Wore Black....was hooked!!
@@NorthgateLP The Japanese that were lucky enough to be in that stadium that night, were some luck bastards. The band brought their A Game.
Queensryche “Take hold of the flame” you can hear Geoff Tate soar!
Off the same album "Empire", take a listen to "Is Anybody Listening?" One of my all-time favorites.
Operation Mind Crime I know is the magnum opus for Queensryche. But the album Empire is sheer brilliance.
Omg what a fantastic song!
Agreed wholeheartedly, absolute favorite song of theirs. It is amazing live.
Agreed my favorite song of theirs and there are so many great songs.
@@leftcoaster67 I have the unpopular stance of preferring Empire. I get blasted every time for saying it lol. That said, I still love and recognize the brilliance of Mindcrime.
Your pure enjoyment of music is contagious. I am glad to have found this channel.
It's the most elegant rock song ever. Puzzles me as why they came undone 🤔. It's still incredible. Many thanx Elizabeth 👍👍
Queensryche is the band you recommend when someone says that metal is just a bunch of screaming and noise. Such a great band!
Some of the best voices of all time came from Metal no doubt. Hard Rock as well.
I also recommend Savatage.
Whether sonically or emotionally, metal is heavy.
This is a great song !!!! Reminds me of Pink Floyd....
I don't think too many people would consider Queensryche metal by today's standards. More like prog rock. Maybe Nevermore/Enslaved/Death or any other band that combines amazing musicianship with extremity.
You really need to react to him singing “Take Hold of the Flame” from Tokyo. He hits an incredible high note, he has such amazing vocal range.
Absolutely!
Yes please. This is a MUST
You are *killing it* with your choices of subjects lately, Elizabeth! Can’t wait.
If you listen closely, you'll hear the basses and cellos at the end are playing a version of "Brahm's Lullaby."
Yes, you're right. I was trying to think I've heard that melody and could not remember the name....then I saw your comment. Thanks!
I never actually noticed that was what i was hearing. Learned something new. Cool.
Love, love, love "Anybody Listening."
I second Anybody Listening.... That song creates a lot of space for Geoff's vocals to breathe, and is another "anti-metal" song for what was considered a metal band.
I'm actually going to second on Someone Else from the Promised Land album. Just an amazing performance.
If you get into anything from Operation: Mindcrime you HAVE to listen to the whole album - it's one big rock opera where one song blends to the next
Both these statements are spot on. Epic album, amazing dramatization.
Personally, I think it's the best concept album ever made. I think it even beats Pink Floyd's The Wall.
I got the Operation Mindcrime album when it came out. I listed to it end to end twice in a row I was so blown away by it. I don’t remember doing that with any other album.
@@tedcorbo4785 Same here. I was a teen when it came out. I listen to it to this day, and never get tired of it.
Geoff Tate has one of the most phenomenal voices, it's gorgeous!

Definitely agree with Take Hold of the Flame live from Tokyo 1984.
YES! Must react to this song and version!
Even in a live show Geoff Tate totally nails it.
I had that ability into my teens, lost it about the time I started dating, oddly enough.
It was written when his child was having trouble with nightmares if I remember correctly.
So what's so important about lucid dreaming?
