    As a Brazilian, I was really used to seeing Japanese people all around, which isn't that common in Portugal. It's great seeing this kind of content. Now, after five years living here, I stumbled across your channel as I'm planning a visit to Japan, and I have to say: I not only agree with the pros of Portugal, this lovely, charming, incredible country, but I also started to feel a bit proud myself - perhaps my inner Portuguese child is growing 🤣? Arigato for your kind words, and may Portugal thrive through the strength of its people and whoever comes here with good intentions and heart.

    Beautiful description of the portuguese way of life. But keep in mind that complaining about EVERYTHING is one of our national favorite sports 😂😂😂😂
    We love our country deeply, but we only appreciate it when we emigrate to another country and see the differences and start to feel "Saudades" from Portugal 😊 But we love, love, love to complain about every single thing 😂

    Good morning.
    I think it's marvellous that you're enjoying the country.
    If you can, travel around the many cities and let yourself be blown away! Enjoy the different sensations and experiences!
    Portugal is an ancient country, full of history and nature! Visit Coimbra (home to the oldest university in the country), Tomar (a Templar city), Braga (...) or cross part of the Atlantic Ocean and visit the Autonomous Region of Madeira or the Azores. You'll find sanctuaries - with beautiful, cinematic landscapes.
    Enjoy life!

    Ahaha, to be fair, sometimes we Portuguese also complain about the slowness of social services 😅 but it is to be expected, there are not that many workers there these past year, and also many people have come to live in Portugal recently, so I imagine there is a lot more work compared to before. Still i am happy you are enjoying Portugal!

    I'm really enjoying your videos! You mentioned something really funny that I also notice as a Portuguese myself. It is absolutely true that we wear long jackets even when it is already warm. I don't know why we do it, maybe it's because Portugal is a windy country. Sometimes it's really warm in direct sunlight in winter, but then suddenly the sky becomes overcast and the wind picks up, which may feel a bit chilly for us. Then again, yesterday on my morning walk I was sweating under my jacket and still didn't take it off. 😅

    I really liked the reflection around 8:50 , i think our slow paced lives might come just from traditions, Portugal is a very old and patriotic country and we still hold a lot of values and ways of life from the past, its also always been a decently poor country, so most people dont have the chance to always go shopping and buy new things, which i think why our mentality towards materialism is like this, coming back to the 'living slower/more relaxed', showing less stress and stuff, i dont know if i can accurately translate this but we say "olha, é a vida" which would be directly translated to "look, its life", i guess its similar to "it is what it is", it could also come from the sentiment of 'Saudade', which is a bit hard to explain, but its something thats basically built into our nation, i saw a very interesting video by Mark Manson titled "Understanding the Most Anxious Country in the World" that debunks it a bit and explains how its tied to us portuguese

    • @lastnamja
      @lastnamja  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for sharing your insights! I really appreciate the perspective you provided. It’s fascinating to think about how Portugal’s rich history and traditional values shape the way people approach life today. The idea of “olha, é a vida” perfectly captures that relaxed, accepting mentality, and I find it very inspiring ;)

    I had to comment again, because at the end I got emotional. I lived at one of those buildings surrounding Praça da Alegria with my grandma and parents for the first 4 years of my life. I remember playing at the playground there and even later on as a teen I still went there regularly. It's a really beautiful little square and quite underrated.

      @@lastnamja When I was a kid, the playground wasn't near the café, it was exactly where you were standing when you started shooting the square, so on the opposite end of where it is nowadays. The buildings were recently painted in fresher colours too, but other than that, it is exactly the same as before. I myself was there recently around Christmas, after a nostalgia spell.

    It's been interesting to see your exploration of the city and your adaptation to Portugal. 😊
    The nearby Chinese groceries stores Supermercado Chen and specially Supermercado Wang have better prices than Amanhecer and even the grocery store Hua Ta Li must have more options for ingredients and snacks. The section of Asian-style tableware at Amanhecer can be useful though (if one wants something beyond the extreme minimalism of the MUJI store).

      You could always also find Japanese ingredients, snacks, beverages, tableware and cooking utensils at the Japanese grocery store Goyo-Ya but I feel everything is a bit overpriced there.🤔

    Em Lisboa a temperatura é sempre mais alta!
    Dependendo do ponto do país com essa temperatura podemos ter frio principalmente se há humidade!
    Agradeço por mostrares uma parte da cidade mais calma!
    Somos pessoas acolhedoras e normalmente educadas, mas no teu país tem um nível de educação que aprecio em algumas atitudes!
    A minha cultura é muito diferente da tua. Também já vivi noutro país e a adaptação não é fácil. Espero que consigas gostar de aqui estar, porque não é fácil estar muito tempo noutro lugar, ao fim de algum tempo começa a faltar o ar da pátria!
    Uma coisa que aprendi ao viver noutro país foi a pontualidade e agora enervar-me quando não são.
    Quanto ao dolce fare niente nós gostamos. Podemos ser responsáveis mas alegres ao mesmo tempo, deixa os que nos rodeiam mais felizes.
    Com o tempo aprendemos a ter paciência com o tempo de espera.
    Um grande abraço desta mãe portuguesa que tem um filho que aprende japonês e gosta de aprender a cozinhar a vossa comida, e eu gosto!

    Time is the biggest treasure that people have. Different people have different approaches to their treasures: there are people who are greedy with their treasures, and always want more and more, even if that is not possible or feasible; and there are people who know that their treasures will only help them if they forget about worrying and start experiencing. This is probably not easy to understand when you're young, but since it is something that older people repeat, maybe there is truth to it. Thank you so much for your videos and your fresh look from outside.

    You’re definitely right to move to Portugal where you can find a quieter and more peaceful way to live and especially far from the superfluous needs of a materialistic society that encourages you to consume more and more.
    Questions: is the cost of living high in Portugal and is it easy to find an apartment to rent?
    Thanks for your vid 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😍😍😍😍

      Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment🙏🏻! Portugal truly offers a calmer and more peaceful lifestyle, which I deeply appreciate. The cost of living in Portugal is similar to Japan, but for me as Japanese, only problem is the rent. The rent in Lisbon is more expensive than Japan...!

    Very interesting ❤ As a Portuguese, I would love to experience life in Japan...as they say, the grass is always greener on the other side 😊. Usually I find portuguese cities not that beautiful, sometimes dirty and not taken care of, and you like it...makes me wonder how are cities in Japan. Are you from Tokyo? Great to know I can find real Japanese ceramics in Portugal, I may look around when in Lisbon. Thank you ❤
    Ah, also, the thing about Portuguese weather and jackets...its true, the jacket is for mornings and afternoons 😅, during the day it gets hot but some people are just too lazy to take the jacket off 😂

    I’m curious about something… one day a Japanese woman told me the country where she “missed less” Japanese food was Portugal. She was surprised the Portuguese people were also big consumers of fish, seafood and rice, compared to other Europeans… Do you feel that way too? How much do you miss Japanese food in Portugal? (Of course there are Japanese restaurants in Portugal and you can also cook your own meals, but it never tastes the same as in the native country.)

    • @lastnamja
      @lastnamja  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for bringing up such an interesting topic!😊 I can understand why the woman you spoke to felt that way bc Portugal has a wonderful food culture with many ingredients that feel familiar to Japanese cuisine, like fresh fish, seafood, and rice. The simplicity and appreciation for natural flavors in Portuguese dishes remind me of home in some ways.

    There was a considerable influx of Japanese in the 16th century, especially women. Many sailors brought them back to live with as concubines. It became so much of a problem that the clergy of Lisbon wrote to the king asking him to outlaw bringing Japanese female slaves.
