Hey there! Hope you're enjoying Portugal. I would just like to say - nothing against you guys and I have no idea how much you are paying, how you are handling rent and you even said you are earning less but - how important it is for foreigners coming here to inform themselves on what the portuguese people can actually pay rentwise and to please avoid paying high rents even when they can afford it. It's sad because 10 years ago we were delighted by people loving Portugal and wanting to move here and nowadays the movement became so huge that we get scared each time a new digital nomad or anyone working from home wants to live in Lisbon because it's beautiful and affordable. This and tourisn (airbnb's) have had such a big role in rent inflation and lisboners are having to leave the city. It would be so important to talk about it publicly as well. Sorry to bother you and truly wish you all the best and a great time while here.

I respectfully have a different perspective. In most major cities globally, very few people actually live in the city center. Lisbon, as Sara mentioned, was largely in ruins, and foreign investment has played a significant role in revitalizing the economy. The real issue in Lisbon isn’t foreign presence but the poor transportation infrastructure connecting the suburbs to the city. If the suburbs were made more livable with efficient transport links to the center, it would benefit everyone. We need to think bigger and appreciate the contributions of foreigners to our city’s growth. Instead of focusing on small-minded critiques, let’s embrace global perspectives.
550€ as average for a room in Lisbon is crazy talk. Back in 2016 I would pay 300€ for a Studio, all expenses covered. It's enfuriating how poorly the portuguese government has screwed us over with these awful visa policies and absolutely horrible public housing measures. I'm happy people are moving here and grabbing great opportunities, but there's no future for the portuguese youth in this country. We're all fucked.
Just an amazing journey for you both in Lisbon. Love the vids.. The side trips you film through Europe are epic too, what a life ! Oh yeah, and Lagos cocktails rock !!!
very nice vlog! I found it funny you mentioning having to speak slower since you're so eloquent and easy to understand (as a native Portuguese) I hope everything works out for both of you. hugs from porto!
Just wanted to add, it’s expensive all over Portugal. Sure Lisbon is the most expensive. But everywhere is unaffordable when compared to the wages. For the price you get in Lisbon for a flat you may be able to get a slightly larger flat for the same money but it’s still incredibly overpriced. Our flat, in margem sul was €450 when we rented 8yrs ago. It’s a one bedroom. At that time the price was considered astronomical. Now it’s dirt cheap. We had to buy our flat in order to keep our costs down bc if we lost this place we’d have to pay 2 or 3 times more for the same space. And we are lucky bc we were able to buy. Most people aren’t so lucky these days. Just wanted to lend a perspective from outside of Lisbon. Just to say that it’s the same all over the country, for the most part.
@@jaxb.8351 that interesting to know! The prices definitely don’t keep up with the wages that’s for sure which we are feeling but we still feel lucky to have an apartment where we are as so many other friends are struggling to even find a room for a decent price. My other European friends are saying these prices are less than other European cities but it is the wages that isn’t keeping up :(
@@placidovalente Most people in Portugal also don't. The Median salary is not even 1000€ gross. And we pay lots of taxes. Many many people earn the minimum wage which is a measly 800€. (Imagine how people from Lisbon can afford a miniscule 1000€ apartment...)
Cool video but it must be cold if no heat in your apartment. Nice during the day but the nights are tough. I have visited in Jan and Feb in Porto area and very difficult to sleep. Everything else was great.
Great question Luis. Quality of life is great, some of the processes in Portugal can take a little longer, there can be a lack of information regarding the visa process but nothing we couldn't figure out on our own. We've learnt that Lisbon is a great hub to base our selves in the EU, a sunny paradise. If you have any more questions for us, give us a shout :)

Average Wage in Portugal is around 1600€ gross per month, 12 months in a year.
in some parts in the U.S. they don't even get 1600 dollares a month
