I gotta be honest. My girlfriend at the time came home with tickets to see them in 82,83? I was like oh great, I gotta go see these guys?! Uggghhh. I was a huge Zeppelin, Sabbath fan etc. So we went. I was blown away at how good these guys were live. Fantastic. I’ve been to over a hundred concerts, and most bands suck live. These guys were tight, singing was amazing. They gained a new fan that night

The only reason they didn't get as HUGE as they should have was the way Mike Reno looked like a frat boy instead of a GREAT SINGER......and band

In fact. on the original recording he did not scream originally. Then one day, he wanted to re-record the vocals and Bruce Fairbairn and Paul Dean got annoyed and got the multitracks out which had already been mixed and transferred the instrumental with backing vocals to a new tape and Mike re-recorded the vocals with new lyrics and the scream which floored everyone. The take you hear is the re-recorded vocals. Mike revealed this to Rock History Month interviewer John Bodin.

@@jimmypaxson3980 I’ll take your word for it, man! You saw it live and remembered it all so they must have left quite an impression on you.
I watched some early Loverboy shows and they did kick ass. I wouldn’t want to follow them after their set. You better have some good rockers or you’ll look lame by comparison. That’s what good bands are supposed to do when they are young and hungry. Blow the Headliners off the Stage! This was back when there were a lot of good Rock bands around.

Soo, Ontario, 82 or 83 Little Joe’s Records and Tapes sold thousands of tickets. Store was adorned with LOVERBOY merchandise. Records headlined at front of store. Looked fantastic. The other record stores were envious. We got backstage tickets for me and my staff. Waited 30 minutes before being told the band went back to their hotel to watch the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL playofffs. Loverboy was from Vancouver, BC. We were furious to say the least. Loverboy was never featured in our store again. Fast forward 40 years! My son in law from BC is a music performer and producer, John Ellis. I told him the story. He knows the boys!!! He told them my story! We got our apology from LOVERBOY! Listening to them now as I write this.

Was never a huge fan. Always loved turn me loose though. It’s a song of strength.

Not to take away anything from the late, great Eddie Van Halen but Paul Dean was the original rock n roll guitar hero. I believe many of the guitar greats, took inspiration from him.

Really? That's a bold claim. I've been playing for decades and while I know who he is I've never paid any attention to his playing....

4:43 This solo in Turn Me Loose is fine but there's nothing remarkable or original about it from both a melodic and technical standpoint. It's standard-issue.

Dale Doback shocked the world when he stepped out from behind the drum kit and picked up the 6-string, when Prestige Worldwide’s guitar player stormed off the stage after refusing to play 70’s Billy Joel music.
