The story of Loverboy is akin to a Hollywood movie. Overcoming rejection to eventually become one of Canada's most successful rock bands of all time and selling millions of albums in the process, is a feel-good story for the ages.
For more than 40 years, Loverboy has been “Working For The Weekend” (and on the weekend), delighting audiences around the world since forming in 1979, when vocalist Mike Reno was introduced to guitar hot shot Paul Dean - both veterans of several bands on the Canadian scene - at Calgary’s Refinery Night Club. Along with Reno and Dean, Loverboy still includes original members Doug Johnson on keyboards and Matt Frenette on drums, with Ken “Spider” Sinnaeve replacing the late Scott Smith on bass.
With their trademark red leather pants, bandannas, big rock sound and high-energy live shows, Loverboy has sold more than 10 million albums, earning several multi-platinum awards. Their string of hits includes, in addition to the anthem “Working For The Weekend,” such arena rock staples as “The Kid Is Hot Tonight”, “Take Me To The Top”, “Turn Me Loose”, “Jump” and many more. In 2009, the group was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, and more recently the Canadian Walk of Fame, in the fall of 2023.
On June 7th, 2024, one of their most incredible live performances will be released for the very first time, in high definition. “Live In ‘82” has been lovingly restored by Paul Dean from his personal archive of 16mm film, the joyous energy of a band who helped define the golden era of 80's music captured like lightning in a bottle: Colourful clothing, outrageous hairstyles (and headbands!), terrific movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Top Gun, and great music that has stood the test of time.

The 80's was not just a decade, it was another universe✌️💜
You got that right
A super duper dupity one !
Agreed 👍👍
I grew up in the 60's, all the decades are unique!
17 in the 80s wow
anybody listening right now 😮
Absolutely 👍
Yes…why, yes …..I am listening…..right now. 6/11/24. This one is in my cd player in my Tahoe…..
Loved this band!
No, I’m commenting but not listening 😅
This body!!
The good old days. Wish I could go back
😅
The women were way hotter back then
Truth!
Real music
You wish come true CVS 🚰🚰🚰
God I miss the 80s when rock was excellent!
I was at the Toledo Speedway Jam in the summer of 1982 and they were third out I think. We saw 7 bands that day for 13 BUCKS!!! Cold beer, hot sun and Mike Reno belting this and "Working for the weekend" but when the crowd went wild was with "The kid is hot tonight". Great memories.
@@thedynamicsolo4232 That's one advantage of age: you've seen a lot of the development of music history. I grew up with the music of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman (through my parents), Motown, Beatles, Hendrix and everything that came after that that you could hear here. Music is my elixir of life! I didn't go to that many concerts (Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Disturbed, etc.). But I have a lot of records and later CDs. Today I almost only listen via YT... Great invention. Greetings from northern Germany!
Nothing like it 😮😮😮
AMEN or LIKEWISE!
These were truly the glory days. There will never be a better decade for music!!!!
The 80's was such a fun decade!
1000 percent agreed .. no other decade can beat it
We wuz privilege to come of age then..imagine being 12 or 13 right now😮😢
@@coalitionofcommoncanadians5651 That's why kids today don't know what good music is!
The '80s were a time when rock was the best at its best. ❤❤
I will be 71 years old tomorrow and still listen this olld school music
I'll be 57 in July and my wife still gives me crap when I watch metal mayhem on tv. Says I'm too old🤘
Happy Birthfday
@@joeyparsley2378 I will be 57 this year. You are never too old!!

Age is a number keep listening
Mike Reno's voice still sounds great 42 years later.
Agree
Lol
I don't think so, he lost his vocal range a long time ago.
@@kevin-gs7jn thank you and well said. there are only a handful of lead singers who sound as great as they did over 40 years ago. Mike is not one of them. Steve Perry is not one of them and so on
Yes he does!
Put me in a time machine and take me back to the 80's...best times of my life 💯
Yes the 80s will never be beat. If I could go back I would. Best times EVER!!!!
Save room for me!
AMEN or LIKEWISE!
Same here, bi-level perms & my parachute pants.
Yes!!!
Loverboy was one of the greatest bands of the 80s! They never had a song I didn't like.
Back when a rock concert was a rock concert!
I agree first concert I saw Cleveland Ohio Rock and roll Hall of Fame Cleveland Ohio rocks

@@stevenmyhre2242 Awesome...I Love Mike Reno and Loverboy, I always have (80s) and I always will (2024 and still counting.) ❤️
Criminally underrated band, Loverboy is doing the right thing. Release some of the old classics. Can not wait to get this one!
Underrated? They played in full arenas.
How does an “underrated” band sell over ten million albums and sell out arenas?
“Underrated” is the word people in comment sections use because they can’t form an original thought to put in the comment section. “Underrated” is used to make a person seem like they are informed or intelligent. It’s sad, really, because I’m guessing you truly like Loverboy and just wanted to make a comment. But let people know what it is about the band that made you a fan. Or tell us why you feel Loverboy is underrated. (6 Juno Awards)
Me, I’m here to see how the band sounds compared to when I saw them live a few years ago. I’m by no means a fan as much as I am a fan of live rock shows.
@@brokl26 wow what a dumb comment. I love the band but how after all these years has Loverboy become a one him wonder. They have at least a dozen hits but the radio plays only two of them Working for the Weekend and Turn Me LooseAnd it’s not often you hear Turn Me Loose. Radio should play at least 10 of their songs. And they should be in the Hof but never even get mentioned. Yes, I know they were huge. I own all their albums. They filled arenas but all that is forgotten hence UNDERRATED band. You what even makes me sicker is internet trolls like you. Sickos who have to go on line and stir things up.
@@trebillis7399 First, at no point did I say Loverboy was a one hit wonder. They sold over ten million records world wide, and Loving Every minute Of It was a monster hit. Loverboy was an “album band” and not a singles band. And I mean that comment in a positive way. That’s why they sold out arenas.
As for being forgotten, Loverboy is still a touring band. Even if they were to be forgotten in some sense, that doesn’t mean underrated.
The HOF is definitely not a good measuring stick when regarding a bands significance. Plenty of other great bands are not inducted, for whatever reason, and artist that aren’t even rock are being inducted every year.
As for me being a troll, I’m not. I might stir things up at times, but I’m simply wanting to know how someone really feels and thinks on a topic. Normally I ignore the “underrated” comments, and they are common. But I figured it’s Loverboy, and you must be a big fan. I was hoping for your semi-heated response because that’s where the truth and passion come out. I do apologize for making you think I was trolling you. I guess I might have been in a small amount.
I saw Loverboy open for Pat Benatar and Journey in 2012 and they sounded amazingly like the albums, as did Pat. Journey was ok with Arnel. So I had this video pop up in my algorithm so I figured I’d check it out. And I always read a bunch of comments, unless I’m watching a news video.
Like I said, I apologize for my initial attitude, but I guess I end up being an ass, or an idiot. This time it seems I was both.
@@trebillis7399 By the way, your response was incredibly quick.
70s 80s No bullshit. Just pure rock .
Back in the day when Music was good.
This band was absolutley tremendous! What a spectacular voice Mike has!
The music today is still good (As in there are still very good bands around) but unfortunately the music industry won't sign anyone good.
I was there. What a great show. Bryan Adam’s opened..
I was there too!
Hard to believe that Bryan was ever an opening musician for someone else. Haha. But ‘82 was pretty early in his career.
@@coolcat6303 this was before Cuts Like A Knife came out. That album got him into headline act territory. He was promoting You Want It You Got It at this time. Loverboy was flying high.

R.I.P. Scott Smith
This is absolutely incredible! Loverboy was a force to be reckoned with back in the 80's. They pumped out one hit after another. Love " Turn Me Loose "
Paul Dean… best guitar tone of the 80’s. Mean and raw.
The best guitar tone of the 80's? Not even close.
So greatfull the era I grew up in.
The bass line has to be one of the best ever!!👍
One of the anthem songs of the early 80s.
Takes me back to 1981 when they opened for Journey.

Forever timeless classic rock.
I see myself in the audience so thanks for this! Fangirl from the very start in Calgary.
The 80s were the best!
No, the 70s!!!
I'm so old I saw this tour, they warmed up for ZZ Top we had never heard of them. Might have been 1981 without looking it up. They were perfection live.
Thank you Mark for what I thought was a memory lapse with that tour. LoL That's the tour my ex and I wanted to see Loverboy and that was it . They did not disappoint. They blew the roof off the Stabler Arena in Allentown Pa. In 1981. And we were going to leave because we said who the F**k are these guys dressed in dirty mechanics monkey suits and long beards and "That's when we were introduced to ZZ-TOP and that 3some burned the rest of building down. Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard and(" R.I.P.)Dusty Hill who is "Partying on a Patio" in heaven. WOW what a concert. What an odd pairing of bands, but what a show. LOVERBOY / ZZ.
