The reason why the enemies in limgrave tunnels were so tough is because they were strong against physical damage, they are however weak to strike, like hammers.

This is around the time the game had just released - and I was on discord with my friends who were also playing it. Each of us were doing our own thing and sharing stuff with each other if we found something interesting / unique.
So I randomly find this dome like structure in the middle of a forest with an underground elevator. Went down the elevator. It kept going. And going. And going. And then - my jaw just dropped. I didn't wanna spoil it so I just told my friends - 'hey guys just check this place out there's something very interesting'. I was being a little coy about it. So they went there too and they were all like WTFF
These are the kind of moments that this game gave us that were truly special and memorable. Will forever cherish it.

The different affinities like Quality, keen or heavy give your weapons different stat scalings/damge types/status buildups
    Keen - Higher dex scaling
Quality - Higher dex and strength scaling
    Heavy - Higher strength scaling
magic - adds magic damage and intelligence scaling
    cold - adds frostbite buildup
    and so on

      To add on to that:
Fire: physical and Fire damage based on your dtrength stat.
Lightning: physical and lightning damage based on your dex stat.
Flame Art: physical and Fire damage based on your Faith stat, but increasing Faith only boosts your Fire damage.
Holy: works the same way as Flame Art, just with holy damage.
Blood: scales with your Arcane stat, gives your weapon bleed build up, but most weapons lose base damage as a tradeoff.
Poison: scales with Arcane. It... poisons your enemies. Low base damage.
Occult. Increases your weapon damage with your Arcane stat. Mostly used to have an Option against enemies that are immune to bleed/poison.
If you are really interested in how this works, check out the TH-camr named Chriight, He has the most in-depth guides without Spoilers, no pressure though, just if you are interested.

@@davobandswhen you’re going through the selection screen for the different affinities, when you press on one you can see the changes that will be made to your weapon. For example if the weapon originally starts with both strength and dex requirements to use it and you select heavy affinity, it will get rid of dex scaling and increase your strength scaling to about an A, so any levels you have in dex won’t apply, which is good if you’re strength focused. But yeah you can view what each affinity does, collect more whetstone blades and you’ll unlock more affinities, there’s another one you can find in stormveil, it will require a stone sword key to unlock the fog wall.

So people have mentioned tips to you like how the turtle shell shield restores your stamina. Its quite hard for a new player to immediately know where to learn about these passive statuses, so here is how:
In the menu, your must go to your inventory, look for the specific item, select it and press R (or whatever prompt key the game mentions at the bottom of the menu).
This will not only tell you if there are passive effects on the item but also some nice lore about the items themselves. (Elden's lore is very complex and this is a nice way to learn more about the lore if you are interested)

YOOO Congrats on beating Margit!! He’s a very tough boss for beginning players, and even I struggled using multiple summons! Some additional tips for you:
    - Now that you have access to the Roundtable Hold, when you teleport outside of it back to anywhere on the map, you can return to it quickly by pulling out your map, pressing Y on your controller (to pull up lists of your Sites of Grace), THEN pressing X. It will quickly take you to the Hold!
Additionally, you can hover to the bottom left of your map to a compass-like symbol to access the hold
    - When leveling up, if you need an explanation of what each stat does when you raise the level, you can access the “help” menu by pressing the “start” button on the Xbox controller, the pressing the help menu option. You can hover over each individual stat to read what it governs, such as that “Vigor” raises HP, fire/poison resistance, and immunity. Or that “Endurance” raises stamina, robustness and equipment load (allowing you to carry heavier equipable weapons and armor that doesn’t way you down and make your dodge rolls slower)
The most important to know is that this is YOUR journey. You should not let people online dictate your play-style, and bar you from using summons! Do what you want in this game, and use whatever help you wanna use! The Soulsborne community is behind your back alongside your adventure, and we will help you when needed. Good luck Tarnished on your path to seek the Elden Ring!

The reason why people told you not to use summons is because as the game progresses, using summons makes boss fights too easy, insignificant and unmemorable, the wolves are well balanced, but there are summons that directly destroy the boss, robbing you of the challenge and fun of the fight.
Of course, there are people who see this as gatekeeping and get angry, etc. Play as you wish.

    To stagger enemies:
To stagger an enemy you have to fill his "posture bar" which is a hidden bar similar to HP bar that is filling by hitting the boss, but there are two important considerations to do:
    1. Different attacks deals different damage to enemy's posture
    2. The boss posture restores by not getting hit by your attacks, so the most of time you don't hit the boss you'll take longer to stun him/her.
An important consideration is to be made about the posture dealt by different attacks:
Here there is a hierarchy from the most posture damaging attack to the lowest damaging:
    - charged R2 attack
    - counter- attack (the heavy attack you can make (R2) as soon as you perform a guard (L1) either with shield or sword
    - jump heavy attack (jump and R2)
    - crouched/roll attack (roll and R1 or crouch and R1)
    - backstep heavy attack (O and R2)
    - jump light attack (jump and R1)
    - heavy attack (not charged)
    - backstep light attack (O and R1)
    - simple light attack (R1)

The ash of war at the end that you put on your weapon took away your stance attack that you can do. You can uninfuse it to get it back, or get the ash of war from a scarab in the southern part of the lake agheel.
And when you let fia hug you at the end, she gave you an item that actually lowers your hp by a lot while in your inventory. Go find the baldachins blessing in your inventory and use it to get rid of the debuff. The item itself can be useful, but the cost makes it very much not worth it.
Last thing, the troll boss you fought felt harder because its more resistant to slash damage.
-Strike damage is better against armored enemies.
-Slash is good for less armored or clothes enemies like margit, who has a -10 to slash resistance. Meaning you'll do 10% more damage to him with a katana and that kind of stuff.
-Bleed is a super strong status effect in the game. Your katana has it by default, but theres other ways to add it and more to other weapons. The way it works is your weapon will have in parenthesis (status buildup) which is how much you do per hit no matter the type. Lets say you have 50 bleed buildup and are fighting an enemy with 150 bleed resistance. It will take 3 hits for them to bleed. The way bleed works is it does a set percentage of damage when it happens. To normal enemies it is 15% of their total hp + 100 or 200 damage (depending on the weapon type) against bosses and enemies with boss health bars it does 10.5% + 100-200 damage.
-Frostbite is another status effect that is very similar. What it does is it takes 10% + 30 damage of an enemies total health (bosses are 7% + 30), and reduces all their damage resistances by 20% for 30 seconds. It can be removed with fire damage, making fire and frost attacks have synergy, especially with bleed.
There are more damage types and status effects, but those are the most noteworthy to what was in the video

    • @chrayez
      @chrayez 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Don’t go lying about the Baldachin’s Blessing. It reduces HP while in the inventory, but by no means is it “by a lot.” It’s -5%, which is almost never enough to change the outcome of a fight.

Something else to help your weapons damage: Scaling!
Each weapon will have its scaling listed towards the bottom of its description, for example: strength D Dexterity C
The better the scaling, the more your stats effect the total damage or will do! (High stats also effects scaling, but it is less noticeable at lower tiers)
    The scaling progression goes like so: D < C < B < A < S
However, sometimes S scaling is not the best! Having a weapon with 2 stats that scale can do just as good, if not sometimes better!
For example Strength D Dexterity C can be equal to or greater than Stength/Dexterity B

Finally, one last tidbit of information:
Crafting! If you buy the crafting kit from Kalé, you can craft a multitude of items, but the most significant of these are the cracked pot items, as they are re-craftable-->they don't use up the collected cracked pots, but the items used in the crafting to make them have effects (for example, a poison pot uses up furgurbloom, a collectable crafting material, but doesn't use up your colleted cracked pots)

There isn't anything inherently wrong with using them, but they do definitely take away from the feeling of accomplishment, which is imo the reason why souls games are special in the first place. On my playthrough I used summons on a couple of bosses out of pure frustration and I regretted it every single time because my willingness of taking the easy way out robbed me of the feeling of overcoming difficult obstacles.

Hey before I give you my tip, you're doing a great job and if you want to use summons use summons as long as you enjoy, don't let anyone control your game :D, take your time and enjoy this game, its just the beginning.
don't mesh the roll button try to stay calm and get the correct timing with the rolls when the enemy attacks.
And I know that there’s a lot of guides and suggestions to level up only vigour at first but I personally strongly disagree with that, I saw a friend of mine struggle in the early game because of that suggestion he saw on the internet. You need to invest in damage output and vigour.
its pointless to over invest in vigour because you want to avoid damage not to tank it especially when your flask is low level and not recover a lot of HP.
damage output will help you much better to isolate enemies from gangs and lower chance to get overwhelmed by enemies.
Check the Scaling of your weapon and invest some levels to the stats that will give you more damage bonus, for example: your current weapon will benefit from Dexterity and Strength combined so invest a little bit in those stats.
scaling rated as D,C,B,A,S. D the lowest and S the Highest and it will determine how much damage bonus you will get. the scaling of your weapons will improve when you upgrade them.

I really enjoy watching your vids, and yeah souls community hat a bit of a problem with summons, i personally don't think that they are bad, in fact they can be really helpfull at cleaning large enemies groups, i recomend that well, you play how you consider is better for you, and if you want to use summons ist fine, but maybe with some discretion? idk, i know that they can trivialize some bosses, but at the end of the day, its your playthrough and with or without summons your vids are super fun

  • @iphishcod8853

The way I've had it explained to me is that because Elden Ring doesn't have an Easy/Medium/Hard/Very Hard difficulty option they gave us summons to give lower skilled/less familiar players a fighting chance. All of the bosses are designed to be defeated in your own way. You do you. Think of it as dropping the difficulty button from hard to easy. The people that mald over summons do the same over a youtuber/streamer not playing on the hardest difficulty available on other games.
IMO, just remember you only get to experience all of this for the first time once - don't rob yourself of the experience by making it TOO easy.
Either way, I'm really enjoying your playthrough! Heavily living through you vicariously. Keep it up!

Enjoying the vids bro. Tip here: Weapons can have different status effects like Bleed, Frostbite, Poison, etc. They are what's building the bars on the bottom of your screen and your katana has the bleed effect on it. Once you filled the (invisible) bleed meter, it causes the enemy to take a chunk of damage based on their max HP. The number next to the bleed effect in the equipment menu also indicates how much of it is applied when you attack. Lastly, there are other status effects, but they are more niche like Scarlet Rot, which is basically a deadlier version of poison.
Also when an enemy has blue sparks when they die, that means they are going to drop an item.

Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the stagger meter (poise) regenerates whenever the enemy doesn't get hit.
That is why you staggered Margit so many times in the beginning, but then couldn't do it later on when you were less aggressive. (Regarding this btw: 37:39)
It's all about finding the right balance between aggressive enough to break poise, and careful/patient enough to not get hit that often.
I think you figured out that balance pretty well in the Margit fight, which is why you could beat him much quicker than most other new players.
    Well done!

I would say on a first attempt on a boss you haven't seen before to hold back on using summons to scale how hard they really are, if you feel you can beat them without then you'll probably decide to avoid using them to increase your satisfaction and if they kick your ass you then know that summons are a good idea. If you use summons on a boss you would have been able to easily beat without, it becomes overkill and can drain the fun from the encounter.

First off, your Elden Ring series has been very entertaining, great work! Also, I know most people that bring up summons lessening the achievements of the player are messing around, though there are some that adamantly believe that. There's ultimately no need to apply their self-imposed challenges to yourself, It doesn't lessen your victories and there's no shame in using what the game provides to forge your path to success. It is YOUR journey after all.
I've loved the souls franchise since 2014 with the original Dark Souls, and the thought of trying to shame someone with some twisted elitism is silly, the more genuine, earnest experiences players get to have, the better, it will always make the memories of looking back that much better.
I hope your first experience with this game is as special as it was for many of us.

At the end of the day, it's your playthrough, and you decide how it'll go, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a more casual playthrough, my first playthrough was like that too, I wanted to see what the summon system had to offer so I used them, but the one thing I can't stand in this game is people who gloat about or mock bosses when they get carried, use all the OP summons you want, as long as you understand how great of a handicap they are, stay humble king

Really enjoying the series so far!
-A few small tips to add to the list:
    - with huge bosses like the dragon, it can sometimes be better to lock onto the head and stay in front instead of aiming for the feet. You'll be able to see their moves coming, and hitting the head deals bonus damage and is better at staggering them for critical hits.
    - With big bosses (especially the dragons) quickly getting on and off your horse can be key to dodging certain attacks. I wouldnt recommend staying mounted, but as a quick reposition to dodge fire its incredibly useful
    - a lot of bosses have attacks where they slam the ground and create a huge area of effect (like the troll in the mine), these can be dodged, but you can also jump over the AOE if you wont get hit by the main attack, which can be easier to time and lets you use jumping attacks while evading.
    - staggering big enemies like bosses works off an invisible meter that will start refilling if the boss goes too long without taking damage, so if you want to get crits more then being highly agressive or using ranged attacks/items to keep the pressure on will help with that.
All tips aside youre doing really damn good for a new player, your learning is impressive!

It's good to pay atention for what kind of damage your weapon deal. FOr example, Katanas do Slash/Pierce damage, some weapons do Standard damage or strike damage. These are all different kinds of physical damage. The Miners you fought have stone skin, so they're resistant against your katana, but it makes them weak against hammers or any strike damage weapon. In Elden Ring, physics sometimes is the answer to explore enemies' weakness.
PS: Some heavy armored enemies won't feel your light attacks even if you're two handed, so just a simple heavy attack, no need to charge it, will make them feel it.

If you are frustrated about staggers, lemme tell you about em! Basically every single enemy has an invisible healthbar, and every single attack does a flat amount of damage to that health bar. Heavy attack does the most, then jumping heavy, jumping normal, then regular attack (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). But essentially the reason enemies may not be staggering is because that health will automatically reset after not taking any damage for longer than idk a good few seconds. So for any reason you aren't getting any staggers in is simply because you aren't outputting enough damage consistently, (not rapidly, there's a difference), consistently enough. And yeah, this invisible healthbar varies from enemy to enemy, it isn't liekly you get a lot of staggers on a lot of bosses, unless the stand still quite a lot. Also why staggering is a lot easier with summons, because you basically have a constant output of damage (assuming they aren't being dumb) that prevents the invisible health bar from resetting.

Thanks for this amazing content, elden ring is also my first soulsgame and watching this while by now having 200+ hours on my account is sooo fun and reminds me of my first interaction with these things. And as a side note, my greatest respect for clapping these bosses I got completely obliterated at first xD

Really like your let's play. Love the music and edits and reactions are very funny.
No worries on summons dude. As long as you give the boss a good try I doubt people would mind too much. They can be really fun to use and its cool to see the npc summon in action. They can be really cool characters and they add health to the boss to adjust the benefits. Sometimes it even makes it harder if the summon is terrible lol. Spirit bell is fun too. For the record, I think you had Margit without it. I summoned the rotten stray to beat him my first playthrough.
Do what you like with the talking. Personally I like the characters enough to listen and your talk with fia was hilarious. Theres a couple big guys in storm hill to meet. You'll like them and bern is a great skills shop.
On the margit fight, stance pressure goes away overtime. Its hard to stagger an enemy if you are less aggressive. You were playing more careful that go took too long to build stagger damage.
    Good luck!

Have over 550 hours clocked into ER and I think you should use summons if you want to bro. There’s always gonna be people who disapprove no matter what you do, don’t bother catering to them. The best content you can make is doing whatever you enjoy most. Keep up the good work

Bosses have a hidden stagger reset timer. To consistently get staggers, you need to keep up pressure constantly. If you don't touch the boss for a couple seconds, their stagger bar resets and you have to start over with building stance damage. Means you need to be good enough to know the moveset and weave attacks inbetween everything. The timer also varies from boss to boss, some take like 15-20 seconds to recover, others just 4 or 5. You'll often see speedrunners or challenge runners use throwing knives, kukri or spells to keep up the stagger from a distance when a boss goes wild.
