    US Soldier here, had the opportunity to work with the French in Africa last year, they adore our MRE’s, we really liked there’s so we would trade cases of ours for theirs, they really know how to make someone feel good in the field. Their rations are truly delicious.

    Cassoulet is a pork, duck, bean regional country stew, the white beans are a must in the recipe because they keep their shape and are tender when cooked right. A meal for hard working farmers/laberours, etc .

      tdotjazzberryram61 and also soldiers apparently now. But as someone who has done both ill say the dietary requirements are similar for a man that has worked a ten hour day on the farm and one who has been on unit exercises all day. And both men will appreciate the meal being a hearty one.

    the paté is actually not butt but it's made with Armagnac and that is a bit like Cognac .
    also it say (Terrine) so it is supposed to be better then just mushy paté (less industrial and with meat chunks) .
    we make paté cans for ever in France and they stay good for a very long time , we make it last by adding fat and salt , it's also cooked for a long time .

    Hi Nathan! Great review.The reason European rations are better, is because Europe uses real food, I swapped a Dutch 24 hour ration with Gundog a year ago for two US MRE's. He LOVED my Dutch ration, but I get sick from the US MRE's. It was meatballs and the sloppy joe ration. We Europeans don't like US prepared food. When Dutch soldiers fight in Afghanistan, the soldiers wer'nt allowed to eat US MRE's longer than 1 week. Dutch soldiers get litterly sick of them. In Europe we eat 'real'food and not all the chemicals Americans put in their food. I still think MRE's are cool, though. If you like, I can send you a Dutch 24 hour ration for review, Greets.

    • @NathansMRE
      @NathansMRE  7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      That is very true, the US needs to rethink the MRE's lightweight is good but not if you can't eat it lol

    • @dhooter

      Unfortunately in combat we don't have time to eat Michelin Starred food. Maybe with the lgbt population that'll change. The idea is to fuel not please. MRE meals weren't designed for camping. They were intended for quick nourishment on the battlefield. Pre Madonnas may not like them.

    • @mmmhorsesteaks
      @mmmhorsesteaks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Buck Shot what you are doing there is deflecting. There is no good reason to provide shit food to people who are literally giving their lives to protect you. Even convicts get a decent last meal.
      Also the word is "prima donna"; the female lead in an opera. "Pre Madonna" would be the seventies.

    • @metamorphicorder
      @metamorphicorder 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mmmhorsesteaks actually a lot of states have discontinued elaborate or custom last meals for convicts in the us. The published reasoning for such is that too many convicts order elaborate and expensive meals and then do not eat them. This is probably true in some cases but from my research its usually just one prisoner who did this. So even if one guy ordered one meal costing lets say $1k usd and didnt eat it, compared to the falsely inflated cost for imprisoning, appealing and finally executing a person in the us, whats even $1k on a last meal. And if most people do eat it ans one or a hundred dont and its what you are going to spend anyway, whats the deal? The money should be considered spent after a death sentence is rendered. Whats it matter if it gets eaten or not? I mean wheres the logic and psychology here. Some person regardless of their crime is about to die and knows it. They have known it for a long time and have probably fantasized about their 'last meal' for years while eating shit prison food and junk from the commissary. Then the time comes and its like they get a bountiful feast of their own choice but only because they will shortly be forcibly shorn, put in a diaper, isolated from other people kept under bright lights and constant surveillance to prevent them from harming or killing themselves, only to be marched down a hallway to the room where they will be poisoned or electrocuted to death infront of people who love and hate them and complete strangers. That might mess with their appetite a little.
      What it really is though is that the people who administer the prison system for the people who make money off it are hand picked authoritarians and sadists who love nothing more than coming up with new way to make people they see as less than vermin suffer and 'pay' for their crimes.

    This is one of the french menus I want to try. I am Canadian and I feel the same way about our rations, not enough real food in them and too many preservatives. I love the french russian and british rations, real food real flavor. The two mains look good, that deer pate looks wonderful. That hot chocolate is much better for you then the american one much less sugar and no artificial sweeteners. Wow those mains look really delicious I would eat the entire meal in a heartbeat. A great review again as usual thanks

    French MREs are not constructed by a committee of scientists from the Dept of Food Irradiation and Flavour Destruction. They are quality, branded, tinned goods that I could go and buy from my local Intermarche tomorrow morning.

    So I just started eating the 2019 version of this menu. Very good stuff. Some differences are the chocolate pudding is gone and replaced by processed cheese spread and the soup was a cream of vegetable. A lot of food and drink here. Instant coffee was pretty good. Worst thing so far is the spork. What a joke that thing is! Keeps folding when trying to stir your entree when cooking. Deer pate smells like dog food but pretty tasty. Better than spam. I'd get fat eating these French mre's everyday. They are very filling.

    Cassoulet is a main plate in France like kind of a typical one, it's cooked with duck fat (idk if u'll understand what i mean) and with specials spicies ! This is a really old meal ! :) Hope u envoyed it, even if it's in can !

    Great ration and review sir. Foreign rations tastes beat our MRE'S, agreed. A shame for our servicemen. One of these days I will find A folding spork. I know not functional, however, I just like the looks of them. LOL. All items looked good. The duck, sausage, and beans entrée , wow !!!! I know what my next ration will be, lol. The pork, rice, and pineapple looked good, but does sound like an interesting combination. Glad it tasted good friend. All went well for you besides the isotonic drink. Awesome job !!!! Peace, John, AKA, Magnum.

    I can't help but wonder if the French carried their own mess kit with fork, knife and spoon and that the fork you are using is just something that Esbit (Sorry I don't know how it is spelled) adds to their product. It might be possible. No? Thank-you again I love watching the foreign ones much more than the USA ones, why can't they season their meals for the soldiers, do you really like bland food? They are great don't get me wrong (the reviews not the meals) but even you have said that the others are more tasty. Have a great day!!!

      BloodLace Rose no no one in the USA likes bland food at all the military just do not care about its soldiers likes. Sometimes they used to give hot sauce. They feed the US military as cheap as they can which is a terrible idea because they should be giving them EVERYTHING for protecting us! Instead they give them bad food, a bad time, and let them end up homeless and broke when they return IF they return. I hate my country

      Yes you can find conserves of thoses meals on supermarket (which i never denied since i said those on the ricr are better) but they're crap with a ton of sugar and water. Let's take the cassoulet, if you buy cassoulet in a can at a supermarket you gonna have at best a white sausage and more usually some knacky accompanied with shitty beans.
      So now gtfo, oh and btw, you can't found canned cheese.

    Yeah that website blows. Most is out of stock and obviously on a whole different planet on the prices. 50 bucks for a Russian 24hr ration??

      terrine is the same as pâté, basically the terrine is the name of the recipient that you use to cook it.

      tdotjazzberryram61 It's written creole pork, which means it's a dish from the french Caribbean islands.

    I got that wee chocolate pudding in the tin in the French menu 13 I got last week. Got to admit for being French the pudding was terrible, they put an amazing bar of 70% chocolate in the ration but their chocolate pudding is shocking bad lol zero chocolate taste and a very rubbery texture. Apart from that though the French rations are delicious with real meat, the coffee is pathetically bad though lol

      It's a canned cake, what the fuck did you except? A fresh baked one? And that's already better than any industrial cake you usually find... (not even talking about the shitty genoise with 3kg of sugar paste that american call cake)

    • @adastra1500
      @adastra1500 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The canned cake is a chocolate fondant that I think you may have eaten raw. It has to be cooked and the texture changes from a rubber to a cake texture while the centre becomes like molten chocolate.

      They are expensive to get from Europe and expensive to ship here in the us, seen on the news yesterday USPS is raising their rates again

    • @SpearM3064
      @SpearM3064 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, they're TRYING to. They still have to get approval first, especially for the rate they're wanting (60 cents for a first-class stamp)
      At least it hasn't gotten as bad as the computer game "Under a Killing Moon" yet. Granted, in that game, it is post-world war 3, and probably they've had at least one period of runaway inflation... but the protagonist, Tex Murphy, has to mail a letter and expresses gratitude that he saved his last *$10 stamp*
