I worked in a Spanish Bistro as a sous chef for years, I know every single dish he is having and i can say, they look nearly identical to the restaurant quality.
Spanish soldiers do have one heck of a ration for sure.I did tried something like this in Afcrapistan back in '10 and a buddy and I were beyond impressed!..my Unit delivered some things to their base in the Western AOs of my Unit and since I speak Spanish I got to eat in their Chow Hall...Wow..it was MREs thou but damn!..prepared by a Chef probably!?..Salud y Feliz Navidad to you all!
I’m gonna say again how great these videos are. They’re not just enlightening and entertaining - they provide valuable commentary on how U.S. rations can be improved. I do appreciate the flexibility aspect of U.S. MREs - and that MREs need to be tailored to ensure proper nutrient and caloric intake in combat situations. Still, I look at those chunks of meat and fish in the Spanish meal, and feel American soldiers deserve comparable quality meals. Thanks for the tremendous public service you provide 💚
The Real Dovahkiin Miraak Usually you say something like that and one of them comments to tell you how shit the food is after having it multiple times! Lol guess it's really good
Jake Hammaker hehehehhe the food is really good! It will get repetitive, but same as with all the rations, once you are In the military for 2 or more years and there are only 5.menus of each meal... But the soldiers are pretty happy with it... It's healthy food also, and no need for bran tablets like many rations do because you have a lot of veggies, chickpeas and the cereals which have a lot of fiber... Also, the dishes that are in the rations are typical Spanish food, "grandma food" we could say, so it is comfortable too...
Those TOSTADA biscuits are actually popular in Spain ^^ Very traditional biscuits we have for breakfast or ''merienda'' (between lunch and dinner) :):) Also I have to say that our food in general is very carefully cooked and prepared in every single meal, we really care about what we eat and it is such a whole tradition. That ''fat'' thing you found in the POTE GALLEGO its called ''TOCINO'', next time have it with spreaded on to bread... SO TASTY AND DELICIOUS :) Im glad you liked it
Steve has such a good pallet. I work as a sushi chef and I meet a lot of people who can't eat squid because they think the animal is nasty. He just dives in and compliments it.
Every cephlapod is delicious. I get into the water right before and wait like 10 minutes until sunrise and harpoon for squid and octopus. Twice a week a oven dish of onions, patatoes, garlic, tomato and the squid, octopus or both and a litre of wine. You have to freeze them to make them nice and tender.
The green leaf in the Galician stew is called " Grelos" it's the equivalent of the green leaf of the turnip. I'll recommend to everyone to try it. Love your videos.
Sweetened condensed milk truly is a wonderful invention. It's a calorie-dense food that doesn't take a lot of space, has a good mixture of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in it, and is immensely enjoyable to boot.
Meatballs and "peas". I live in Spain and those canned meatballs are very commonly available. Had them quite a few times on lazy winter Sundays, that Fabada (a white bean stew he had for lunch, the fucking thing is delicious, tho the most common regional variant the Asturiana doesn't have any spinach in it). There's also a simple meatless canned chickpea and spinach stew that is absolutely ridiculous. Spanish canned food is remarkably good, it's an occasional guilty pleasure I have.
One thing is Fabada and another Galician Stew ( Cocido gallego), one is from Galicia and the other from Asturias. Those " spinach" are "grelos", a tipical vegetable in the Galicia-Asturias food. you should try a Galician Stew, but be sure to be on winter or your stomach will melt XDDDD.
i couldn't figure out why these vids are so nostalgic to me - I'd never seen them before, then it hit me. the out-of-place music, the stationary camera, the unmodified voiceover - it's the early youtube vibes.
I find it interesting that all these canned foods are retail products specially labelled for the army. Seafood and stew cans, powdered soup, are a staple for students and something everyone would have at home in Spain. Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I love the way the Mediterranean rations always have seafood in them, that's really smart because it adds that extra flavour that most others lack. And extremely nutritious.
Im addicted to the positivity you have with food. Like its fun to watch you eat old stuff. But its also really fun to watch how happy you are when the food is actually good
How do you develop tastebuds that can simultaneously enjoy every kind of cuisine from all over the world, from French squid in ink to Russian prisoner food, no matter if it's fresh or expired. Steve's reviews are my favourite thing to watch while I eat - they make my food taste better every time.
In Spain we eat a lot of fruit in general. In fact if you go to a bar your menu normally offered a piece of fruit for dessert. Since they cannot put it a piece of fruit. They thought.. vitamin C envelopes everywhere! Hehe

Wow! It really is. Reading about a farmer in England producing "in an undisclosed location" selling it at £75/gram. Knew it was expensive, but $3,000/oz? Over 2x's the price of gold. Mellow Yellow indeed.
I grew up in Spain, eating for them is very very important. They have one of the best diets in the world (Mediterranean) which is why they have a good life expectancy despite partying so much.
We don't drink that much, partying doesn't really affect our life expectancy but sadly our male suicide rates are stupidly high, it seems not even the sun can fix the problems of a terrible mental health system, but yeah mediterranean diet definitely keeps you breathing for a few years more at least
World (mediterranean).... yeah the world is bigger that a sea you neanderthal... god help us from these cavemen thinking they know anything about our planet😅
The "spinach" in the "Pote Gallego" (the name people from Madrid gave to their imitation of Galician "Cocido") are actually grown radish leaves, called "grelos". And no, the chorizo is most probably not smoked. There isn't much of a tradition for smoking things in Galicia. Galician cuisine is more about fresh ingredients and little processing. Most traditional Galician dishes are about boiling a bunch of things toghether for a good while xDDD and that's pretty much it, but you have to mind the quality of the ingredients and the timings. The mystery pork cut is panzeta or touciño, depending on who you ask or the particular style. Basically a thick cut of raw bacon.
I never thought Id be watching a guy review food on youtube, but here I am. The interesting items you present, and the pleasant way you review them are very nice to watch. Its a good way to relax, while learning about things I will never see. Very well done!
Related to the hour you'd take dinner. Here in spain dinner time is really late compared in other places. 10pm or so. Of course if you eat something that late you want it to be a lot lighter than a standard lunchtime meat.
Estando de maniobras con los marines estadounidenses y con los canadienses ellos nos intentaban cambiar las raciones porque las españolas estaban mucho mejor!!!
WHEN you eat Spanish MREs you know where you come from & you know what you're fighting for. Home & a taste of home. I could really see that the company behind the Spanish thought carefully about preparing these rations. So, Spanish MREs along with Belorussian, French, will be on my to try list. BUT one thing puzzles me, obviously these MREs had a strong emphasis on fluid balance etc, so why so much vit C? Isn't it a diuretic? A bit of an inconvenience when you're sat in in an AFV, & you have to keep getting out to have a tinkle. DOES the modern day Spanish Armada get supplemental tea & coffee rations? Spanish biccies with DCM...O yes! But not without a mug of builders tea! NICE review S89👍

If you are Interested in getting Spanish rations go to mreinfo. Com, and search for my username in the forum

In Spain squid is a very widely spreaded and common food, we eat it fried mostly
I wouldn’t be surprised, I honestly had trouble eating squid because of the tentacles though.

I love the sound effects he does when he hits the spoon on the cup lol

Related to the hour you'd take dinner. Here in spain dinner time is really late compared in other places. 10pm or so. Of course if you eat something that late you want it to be a lot lighter than a standard lunchtime meat.
