    Tip for the Cheese fondue (love the show): Dude, you're supposed to melt the cheese using the stove.
    You also have to use the salty crackers and dip them into the melting cheese!
    Trust me, it'll make the cheese come alive.
    I strongly suggest you try again and melt the cheese first, until it becomes a little bit liquid but not too much.
    Then stick the salty crackers and ...Voilà!
    Not melting the cheese is to a French person, as is putting yorkshire puddings for dessert to an English person.

    the Cooks had set up some garbage cans with boiling water and had just put the cans of meat and other things in them .

    You should try one of the new generation german EPA rations, especially Type 8 ("Salisbury steak with rice and vegetables" and "Pork goulash with noodels") or Type 7 ("Noodels with minced meat in chasseur sauce" and "Lentil stew with sausage") are highly recommandable. ;)
    German and french rations are my favorite ones, because they include more than twice as much than an MRE for example. The german rations always content 2 hearty warm meals (can be heated by putting the sealed aluminium foil into hot water or on a cooker like the french meals, but there is no cooker included in the ration), one sweet dessert, one can of brown bread, sweet hardtacks (in german called "Panzerplatten" = armor plate), 2 small cans of hearty spread (liverwurst, ham sausage or else), 2 small cans of sweet spread (jam), 1 energy bar, 1 chocolate bar, chewing gums, 4 packages of delicious drinking powder (exotic, grapefruit, orange and lemon) and several accessorys (coffee, sugar etc....).

    Just ate the Risotto Porc version of this and it's impressive--- all the bars are complex and tasty (that raspberry is indeed amazing), there's a Sausages w/ Butterfat that is supremely satisfying, and it comes with Rice Pudding which I didn't care for. Overall a surprising and delicious 24hr Ration.

  • @qb3464
    @qb3464 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Loved the video man. You've got a new subscriber from France !
    But
    I'd like to point out something that may disappoint you:
    What you tasted, my friend, is not good food.
    I mean, it is good food for a military meal, or a picnic, since you can find many of these items in stores, though they're not necessarily going to be of the same brand as shown in your video. The majority of it is going to be inexpensive. Like that "pâté hénaff", it's a well-known brand, it doesn't taste bad, fills your stomach, does a good job.
    _(FYI you got there a tin of "rillettes", which is different than "pâté". And traditionally both are made with pork, not chicken.)_
    But when it comes to food quality, we are, indeed, picky and perfectionist. Not joking about food is the key to a high-level cuisine.
    Did you see the movie "Ratatouille"? Full of clichés, but the important message is that anyone can cook !
    And if you think that most of these things were tasty, and if you're interested in french food, I highly recommend you to try at home one of these simple and popular recipes someday (simply search them in french and translate them. Google is your friend. I guess...):
    -"Truites aux amandes" (My favorite. Served with vegetables, such as a "fondue de poireaux", or with a champagne sauce and some small, good quality roasted potatoes, if you're not cooking on a budget)
    -"Boeuf bourguignon" (served with rice, pasta, potatoes...)
    -"Coq au vin" (with rice, pasta...)
    -"Paupiettes de veau" (with vegetables, rice, pasta...)
    -"Gratin savoyard" (with salad)
    -"Quiche lorraine" (with salad or vegetables)
    -"Galettes bretonnes" (with salad)
    -"Mouclade charentaise"(with french fries)
    -"Cassoulet" (with... nothing, it's a whole meal in itself, it's tasty and it would feed an elephant)
    And for dessert:
    -"Gateau basque aux cerises"
    -"Quatre quarts"
    -"Flan alsacien aux pommes"
    Or the good old "pain perdu", the simplest dessert I know.
    Oh, and btw, these "pâtes de fruits" are really not hard to make either. But you should pronounce it "pat", like in the word "pattern". "pâté" (pronounced "pate") designates a meat-based food (e.g. "pâté de campagne", wich is also rather cheap to do yourself and will taste way better than the "pâté hénaff"... which we don't usually have for breakfast like you did ^^ )
    Anyway, as I said before if you're interested, google those if you don't already know what they are, pick the one that you like, translate it, get good quality ingredients and follow the recipe. If you're not gordon ramsay, don't improvise things.
    And most importantly, before eating, get ready for take-off, because you're gonna get a kick in the butt that will make you fly across the atlantic ocean.
    You'll have a hard time going back to testing military MREs again x)

    • @SODEMO2007

      Double O Seventeen
      Fondue roughly translates as "to melt" so it would be "cheese melt" if anything, which makes it seem like you should heat it.

    • @MrKinir
      @MrKinir 8 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Fromage fondu = melted cheese.
      This isn't meant to be heated, there's some confusion about that in the comments it seems. It's some kind of very soft cheese you can spread on bread. It's to be eaten cold

    • @Psycho_Yoshi
      @Psycho_Yoshi 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah its probably supposed to be heated with all the heat tabs they give you, but because of how creamy it was I think I would prefer it cold so I can spread it just like Steve did

    Probably won't see this comment but that was impressive. Also you should go to Paris or France. In Paris they have complete supermarkets every half mile hidden in Basements and you can get deli food, fresh produce and meat. But the best thing is the ready made sandwiches, $3 fresh baguette with a ton of butter and your choice of ham or tuna with lettuce and tomatoes, 1000 times better than subway. The coke bottles are $4 more expensive than the sandwiches and TV dinner meals and cheese and butter. Restaurant food is amazing too but if you're on a budget go to Monoprix or Familieprix and avoid McDonalds
