  • We get the subframe bushings changed out, the subframe aligned, and UMI patch panels welded in. Not an easy job with the motor installed. Remember the sheet metal will all need realigned too. Take your time here and get it right!!! We finally got the stance we were going for. I have included the link to the bushings and the UMI subframe repair kit. Please comment if you have any questions!

I'm about to do the same thing with the same bushing kit in my 79 Formula. Along with a new subframe.

Thanks for focusing on these two wheel well mounts and the issues you ran into. The others are fairly straightforward. Ive been procrastinating on doing these last two.

It was a lot of work but it will drive a lot better and straighter down the road and the new parts will make a huge difference !

Thanks for the video, my boys and I just bought a second Gen firebird (79 ) it's all apart and needs the subframe installed .......I'll definitely look at the holes on the frame before I install....will be easier to weld the plates on out of the car lol.....
Also need to check my g body ....it's been down on one back corner and driving me crazy ....I never thought to check the opposite front....I've done everything else including new springs and shocks in the rear .....

Hey guys; I wish I had stumbled across your channel 9 or 10 months ago. As a 2nd Gen F-Body guy (I'[ve had and been DIY building, re-building, making mistakes, fixing mistakes, designing and fabricating custom parts for, and trying autocrossing these 70-73 Camaros since I was in college back in the 70's). I could have maybe helped you out on a few things I have learned (and yelling at the tv watching you learn them). And as you are next door in Georgia, I maybe could have popped over for a day to work and learn some stuff with you. Having had maybe a dozen of these things over the years, I have learned a few things..... and realize I still have a lot more things to learn about them. Back in the day, Gulstrand and Herb Adams wrote the bible on getting these things to be competitive (I studied those guys daily), and that was before all the new aftermarket materials became available (like I bought a little Atlas lathe to make nylon subframe bushings before anybody started making them out of delrin or polyurethane). Although late to your party, I'm enjoying watching what all you're doing. I currently have a 71, with lots of fun stuff done to it (including modifying the front spring perches), and still doing fun stuff to it. They are fun cars. Like one of my t shirts says : "OLD CARS MATTER". All the best!

I just tackled this on the Misfit not too long ago, it was tricky getting everything to line back up, it's tricky to do by your self. It's great that you have help. I was very shocked that my bolts came right out honestly i expected more resistance lol.

I noticed that the driver side of my 70 sits lower by 3/4 of an inch in the front so I replaced all subframe bushings seeing how they were blown out. After that it still sits the same. The subframe measures the same height from the ground on both sides but the body of my car is lower. Been trying to figure out how to raise my passenger side body by 3/4” in the front. Also the subframe to radiator support was never bolted together from factory… thinking this might be the problem

When our sat crooked, I found out the driver side front spring was not correctly seated in the lower control arm pocket. Once I seated the spring, it sat level.

Could you explain which rubber is on the radiator, the fire cut and the middle of the car.. I bought it but the illustration didn't come?

Why does that happen? The subframe rusting out to THAT point.
