When I first started this mix I did not check Ail ch was right direction. Well I went to correct this after the programming of the mix and there is no return you must have the correct setting for your ailerons first before undertaking this bit of programming which BTW was a god send thanks Ryan. This also compels me to bring ER9X or Open9x into the spotlight because I simply do not understand how this programming was arrived at. Makes one feel a bit stupid really as I crest the late 50's.
A MESSAGE FOR THE STUDENT PILOTS. First of all let me take a moment to thank Mr. Meyer for a great solution to 2 pos. flaps. I certainly have wanted this function for my AXN during hand launching.Good insight into programming the 9x with regular firmware.I still have to dial in the actual value per position in ID1 and ID2. BUT HEY GUYS for you that already have a servo installed with glue, you must go to REVERSE on the Page I/2 of the Setting menu and reverse the FLAPS (FLP)OK? Happy Flying :-)

Thanks brother...it works well although I need 4 hours to find the right setting. Both aileron moved on the same direction when flaps were armed. Almost frustrated but suddenly I found the problem. We just need to make sure both ail and flp are not in reverse position and change from negative to positive in all mix 2-5. If it's still not working or the servo go to the reverse direction, we just need to swap ch 1 vs. 6 with right vs. Left wing.

Only thing wit my set up I had to mix negg where u said poss and on elevator had to adjust horizontal (last line on percentages). But I am sure that was cuz of how I had it wired. Thanks alot man! just set this up on my sky surfer and it works great other than in all the mixes 1-5 all the up and down rates had to match to get it to work....thank you very much
Thanks, that really helped. However, it would have been a good addition to have noted how you set your basic airlirons up first, took me ages to track down why one "flap" kept going up and the other down... It was down to basic airlirons set up...

Cannot thank-you enough for posting this piece RM. It has made my student flyer experience much easier as I try to get my AXN Floater jet in the air and this mix is critical. I wonder how much easier it is to do in ER9X or Open9X. I know this though, I am going ahead and reflashing with the new FW and the backlight mod and the telemetry while I have the case apart.
Update, I went in to the channel reversal section of the 9X menu and reversed both the Ail and Flaps, then I went back in to the mix section and made + signs where there were - signs and vice versa. And it all works beautifully. And now I am going to do the swap over to Open 9X or ER9X dependinjg on which one handles the FrSky Telemetry data better. It used to be ER and now the word has it that Open is the way to go. So there it is, a side story from a complete noob who is learning fast! Go Fly!
I have throttle hold turned on (not set to any particular channel) and use channel 5 for an emergency beacon. I fly over corn fields....lol ever try to find a lost plane in a corn field? Like a needle in a haystack.

I'm using on a Dynam HawkSky which is a great trainer I picked up used for $40. Now it should be even more fun. I just needed to reverse the polarity on the DNRATES (-100 becomes 100, -50 becomes 50 etc) I think because I have my ail/flp servos plugged in opposite channels from your set up? thanks - thats such a really big help as the mix function was doing my head in trying to figure it out - will try that out - Have you ever had any brown out problems with your radio ? I lost power to motor & servos a few times briefly for 5 to 6 seconds which makes me real nervous. Just wondering if this is because of a setting or signal interference. Thanks a lot for this tutorial, helped me to set up flaperons on my plane w/ my new TGY9X quick and easy! ***** But on my plane the ailerons now both go upwards when i expected them to go down ... just simply "reverse" up-&downrates or what's the trick? (As ailerons they move in the desired directions, so channel reverse won't help.)
Well, now i tried it out. It works that way, that either i get the flaps with the 3 position button working the way i want. if so, the airlerons work the same way ... as flaps when i move the stick. Otherwise the 3 position button make the same movement as the ailerons ... also does the stick ..... What am i doing wrong, i follow everything in the instruction, and pluged my servos in ch 1 & 6 Thx for any comeback as i really would like to make it work :-)
flipping the throttle hold switch will activate/deactive all of the programming, so yes it needs to be in the correct position. I've had a lot of requests for help, but unfortunately its hard to diagnose when all that's said is "it doesn't work". These transmitters are finicky with their programming, and one small thing will make it not work. my best recommendation is reset to factory settings and start over. I wish you the best.
I'm a little concerned that the safety aspect of taking the Throttle Hold switch of it's primary function of preventing prop accidents. On a fixed undercarriage model as you have - why not use the Gear switch instead ?
Firstly.Excellent video. 2nd . I'm goings nuts, I have followed your instructions to the letter . I cannot get the 3pos to activated from throt-hold/gyr or either aux switch .yes I have chkd and all the switches do work just none will act as the master for the 3 pos switch .In frustration I have even tried with clean model names to the point of rebinding.Radio=Eurgle gen2 and supplied Rx.the same radio as the Turnigy.Other then what is written here has anyone come across this and found the fix ?

Really, there are just not enough good tutorials about this fantastic (but complex) radio...I use these 3 position flaperons on my HawkSky but I also have another plane with autopilot that needs a 3-position switch to activate and change autopilot function. How can I assign only one channel, say channel 5 to the 3-position switch? Basically, from 2:12 - 2:28 baffles me. Do I have to give up the throttle hold switch (I use this for flaps) to use the 3-position for AP?
Helpful video, thanks! I followed your advice and it worked great. Took my plane out last week (axn floater jet) and while I like being able to fly slower, it does limit the plane's steerability. I noticed with flaps down it limits the servo's travel when giving aileron input though, as in they only go up half of the range they normally do. Do you think there's a way to program the flaps so you don't lose servo travel? I've looked all over the internet and no one has addressed this yet.
Hi Ryan - why is master set to gear for the subsequent program mixes? I don't understand how any of this works since gear is an open channel. Does this mean i need to have an open channel in order to program flaperons? Why didnt we just use the built in flaperon function?

I am having a problem mixing the gear to the other mixes. I can mix the ailerons to the flaps no problem. But when I mix the gear to the aileron or flap it ignores it. If I switch the master to any of the first channels the associated mix will work. Is it a firmware thing that's keeping me from mixing any of the aux channels to the aileron and flaps?
I just set my Fly Sky 9x to all the settings you just described in this video. Actually i did it twice. The aile work fine, but the 3 pos switch does nothing. I have tried it with the throttle cut in both positions. The 3 pos switch has no effect on anything. Wondering if you had any ideas. Thanks
Hello. I have setup flaps on my bixler 2 using the 3 position switch. They work. But the work in the opposite direction. I have them Plugged into ch 7 with a y lead. Is there a way to make them work correctly with out having to turn the servo around? Thanks in advance.

So why dont you use the flaperon mix on the radio? Do you have any planes with dedicated flaps that you have set up on the three pos sw? Thank you for your time, I think I understand the mixes a little better after watching your vid and may try again when I have free time at home.
Why are you using a whole channel for throttle hold when it's already preprogrammed into the 9x? All you have to do is go to throttle hold and turn it on.
thanks, this didn't work for me initially until I reversed my flap channel. I do have 1 problem however, I don't know how to reverse my elevators when I deploy flaps... Meaning, I don't want up elevators for mine, I want down elevators... Can't seem to give negative imputs or something. Any help or advise please?
I have done everything everything works for flaperons disable flaprons step up as described still no work do you need to use the gear set or trottle hold switch all I want to do is get a litte down flaps for take off only
I thought I saw someone mentioning using the rudder/hover pitch potentiometer to vary the flap position but can't find it now. Anyone do this and is just a matter of using a mix with the variable knob instead of the GYR switch?
did work but was opposite set points 100 was -100 etc only set mine for 50% and only four mixes in all because was easier for elev because of the opposite effect... was getting down elev instead of up but all done now
how did having the elevator mixed in with the flaperons work out for you ? usually when the flaps are deployed the aircraft tends to balloon and rise ? wouldnt having a little down elevator make more sense to keep the aircraft at the same altitude and cancel out the ballooning effect of deploying flaps / flaperons ?

can you mix channels so that can be used for two motors: Example would be rc blimp: where in rc blimp you have two motors mounted on a shaft which controlled by a servo, i need to know if it is possible to moving the throttle stick forward both motors turns, when you want to turn left the throttle stick one motors stops and the other motor runs only that will make the blimp to change direction. I am new to this I hope u anyone here could give some help. thanks

No my throttle hold still works. My switch still has the safty switch in the up postion, and when I flip it down, my throttle level is hot. i test ed it, no throttle with it in the up positioin.
He hasn't, as you can see, answered or responded to any remarks. I have the same question. I hope that when I do the change to ER9X or Open which I have yet to decide, that this matter will be a bit more transparent. At least the manual for either of these "operating systems" if you will will not be written in Chinglish" Perhaps you might consider doing the change. There is so much support for people whom have. Seriously, I don't pretend to understand this mix entirely but I know more than I did
Shouldn't it be down elevator instead of up, with the flaps? Down elevator will prevent the plane from suddenly pitching up... Up elevator like shown in the video will just make the pitching up worse, wouldn't it?

This is how I set-up on the Fly-Sky group ages ago ... I prefer the proportional control of the Pitch Trim knob to position switches ...

Very good! This don"t work if you have one function active: FLAPERON. It is on page 1/2. Change it to "inh" and then this works.

I have Flysky TH-9X. I did exactly what you have mentioned but it didn't work. is it the problem with Flysky.
@imanplus if you don't want the elevator to move, just skip the last two mixes. Don't include them.

thanks, this didn't work for me initially until I reversed my flap channel. I do have 1 problem however, I don't know how to reverse my elevators when I deploy flaps... Meaning, I don't want up elevators for mine, I want down elevators... Can't seem to give negative imputs or something. Any help or advise please?

Hi, for some reason can't get it work.
Servo on the channel six is not moving.
I thought I saw someone mentioning using the rudder/hover pitch potentiometer to vary the flap position but can't find it now. Anyone do this and is just a matter of using a mix with the variable knob instead of the GYR switch?
did work but was opposite set points 100 was -100 etc only set mine for 50% and only four mixes in all because was easier for elev because of the opposite effect... was getting down elev instead of up but all done now
Doesn't GYR stand for Gyro? The Tx has a dedicated switch for Gear.
how did having the elevator mixed in with the flaperons work out for you ? usually when the flaps are deployed the aircraft tends to balloon and rise ? wouldnt having a little down elevator make more sense to keep the aircraft at the same altitude and cancel out the ballooning effect of deploying flaps / flaperons ?
Thanks for the good video. I'm set up as you have. Everything works from the button. But I have a problem - the elevators do not rise and fall with the ailerons. I have a plane Durafly Dynamic-S Performance V-Tail Glider, is my connection:
Ch1 - Aileron 1
Ch2 - Elevator 1
Ch3 - ESC (throttle)
Ch4 - Elevator 2
Ch5 - empty
Ch6 - Aileron 2

my aileron 2 doesnt fully move like the aileron 1, how do I fix this?
can you mix channels so that can be used for two motors: Example would be rc blimp: where in rc blimp you have two motors mounted on a shaft which controlled by a servo, i need to know if it is possible to moving the throttle stick forward both motors turns, when you want to turn left the throttle stick one motors stops and the other motor runs only that will make the blimp to change direction. I am new to this I hope u anyone here could give some help.

can you describe what isn't working? how many channels is your RX? do any of the servos respond to the mixes?
@VETTE811 flaps are always better for more control options, but our planes don't always have them so this is a cheat way to use them

first of all * what about this gear channel it goes on channel 5 but there's nothing in the reciever so i don't get that.
this is how it's connected on my plain.
ch 1 ail left
ch 2 elevator
ch 3 throttle
ch 4 rudder
ch 5 nothing
ch 6 ail right
can you tell me what i m doing wrong here?

How do you delete a model in the memory bank?
No my throttle hold still works. My switch still has the safty switch in the up postion, and when I flip it down, my throttle level is hot. i test ed it, no throttle with it in the up positioin.

He hasn't, as you can see, answered or responded to any remarks. I have the same question. I hope that when I do the change to ER9X or Open which I have yet to decide, that this matter will be a bit more transparent. At least the manual for either of these "operating systems" if you will will not be written in Chinglish" Perhaps you might consider doing the change. There is so much support for people whom have. Seriously, I don't pretend to understand this mix entirely but I know more than I did
i assume you tried the throttle hold switch. that's the on/off for the flaperons. made sure you disabled the flaperon menu?

Shouldn't it be down elevator instead of up, with the flaps? Down elevator will prevent the plane from suddenly pitching up... Up elevator like shown in the video will just make the pitching up worse, wouldn't it?
