As someone who played this game three years in a row, almost every day, I would say no, it depends on how you hold the stylus and if you grew up playing a lot of ds and 3ds games that used the stylus cause then you would get used to holding the stylus and 3ds and feel no pain at all, at least that’s how it worked for me
@@dinoshotgun Yeah I think Uprising's controls get a bad rap. Propping up the right side of the 3DS with my stylus hand takes the strain off. Left-handed players are kind of SOL though

The story in this game is wild. After about 13 chapters you fight Medusa and win the day but then Hades shows up as the main threat and the game just kinda keeps going. You fight aliens, then there’s a story about Palutena screwing over humanity, Pit hecking *dies*, there’s a chapter where you play as Dark Pit essentially diving into hell to save him, and then we cap it all out with an over the top anime battle in a Gundam. Iconic.
At first when I saw the Chaos Kin leaving the moon sanctum, I honestly thought that it was one of the Rozzes from the Aurum Arc, and that's what set it off, but nope. Completely different thing.
This is one of those series that everyone will love and support just cause it never brings a new entry. Not that there's anything wrong with wrist pains
Uprising is 100% my favorite game on the 3DS... the story is so rich, the dialogue is so well written, the multiplayer kept me entertained for hours on end, the music is superb. I still remember how shocked I was when Hades (who is one of the most well written villains I've ever seen imo) stopped the credits and burst onto the scene
Kid Icarus: Uprising is legitimately one of, if not the best, written game I’ve ever seen. The story constantly goes from one point to another, yet it never feels convoluted, and everything feels like it fits. The humor is legitimately funny, and every major character gets at least a few funny lines. Yet it knows when to tone down the humor in serious moments like Magnus explaining to Pit what happened in the 3 years Pit was gone. Uprising is an absolute masterpiece, and even though a sequel would be nice, it ends in such a great note that I feel like it doesn’t even need a sequel. 10/10, Samurai truly graced us with a Godlike (Pun intended) masterpiece.
I think my favorite line from the Aurum arc has to be from Hades in Chapter 16: “When freaky aliens give you lemons, make freaky alien lemonade! LIKE THIS!” *crashes Aurum ship into the hive*
I could never forget that guy. I even remember the lietmotif that played during cutscenes that was specifically his theme. It's a really good theme. Not as good as Hades', but, very good.
Kid Icarus: Uprising is fantastic! I'm lucky enough to never have any problems with the controls. I used both hands to hold the console and just a couple of fingers to hold the stylus and press the buttons. One of the things that really stood out to me was that even though I watched the trailer like 100 times I was completely surprised about the twist half way through the game because it wasn't spoiled in the trailer. The game is a blast to play and the story is a ton of fun. I also think the soundtrack is also fantastic. It's a shame that we'll likely never get a true port or sequal but at least it was fun on its own
I just use my right thumb directly instead of the stylus. Works perfectly, and leaves enough fingers free in order to use the right trigger for activating powers.

Same here, I use my pinky on the right bumper with my right palm supporting some weight, works great on an XL. Might be hard if you have small hands though.
I mean, underrated is not the right word, it sold millions of copies and everyone who played it agrees that its a masterpiece... well kinda, there's some really annoying parts in there. But I think the word you're looking for its underexploited, there's so much potential that hasn't been explored yet, but that potential is not even within the Kid Icarus franchise, no its on the Sora team. They could literally pick any other franchise and pull an Uprising on it, buuuut... Smash happened. And considering that the mere concept of Ultimate wouldn't have happened without Sakurai, I can't say I'm too mad he hasn't worked on anything else...

@@NeverSaySandwich1 it's interesting because while yes, the 3DS has a pretty neat light thingy that tells you when the battery is running out, the displays that Sakurai's game had were more precise and also hella convenient. You could get the same precise battery display by going out to the HOME menu, but that would involve interrupting your game :^) Also shoutouts to Smash 3DS also having a permanently visible clock

I’ve noticed that too, like the guidances in smash. It’s like people are getting more interested in these characters or at least showing more love for kid Icarus long after the release of Uprising. Hopefully we can get a port or new entry. Out of all 3DS games, this one really deserves an HD overhaul.
“Sorry to keep you waiting!” Gods and goddesses, I love Kid Icarus: Uprising. The gameplay, the graphics, the story, the characters, the humor, the content - it’s my absolute favorite 3DS game. A lot of people complain about the controls being painful to use, but I decided to forgo the stylus and use the control pad to aim instead. And believe it or not, I’ve trained myself to perform well at the highest Intensities with that control scheme. I may not be able to adjust my aim during an Air Battle, but I won’t be getting early arthritis. I should also mention that I have at least half of the game’s script memorized, not just because I’ve logged thousands of hours of playtime, but because the writing and voice acting is simply awesome.
If Sakurai wanted to take a break from the games industry, I could see potential in a Kid Icarus manga written by him. Also this deserves a remaster on Switch so more people could experience it.

If we did get another Kid Icarus game in the style of Uprising on the Switch, you bet they'll invent new ways to destroy people's wrists, given how the 3DS game made such a good impression on that end.
8:14 actually, tapping the fire button just fires a charged shot. What you're thinking of is the melee attack which is done by tapping the fire button while the reticle is changed when an enemy is up close.
Ant dude, you should know that there likely weren't that many people playing multiplayer with you. I know this because I played the game pretty much it's whole life, and I noticed through little quirks that less and less skilled players were playing with me. It got to the point where I realized I was just playing against computers which were automatically selected if no one was available. I would be lucky if I got one actual person, and they would quickly become the one to beat. I believe you could even play if you weren't anywhere near an internet connection, I used to play offline online on the bus. But there used to be alot of forum communities surrounding the game, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were still players.

The amount of love I have for this series can’t be described in this comment. I remember when I first played it and was absolutely addicted.. when it told me to take a break for the first time and I realized how long I’d been playing is when I realized his how much I loved it. For me,. The whole pain complaint people have wasn’t an issue,. I definitely felt it, but was legit so enthralled I hardly noticed, and usually quickly forgot as I began thinking about how cool the game is. What a way to make a world feel real with its endless list of amazing hilarious ever enthralling characters, there’s not one I dislike. I could talk so much about this game and any amount of fans I see talking about it warms my heart. I also don’t think I’ve seen a better community(probably because were few, and we just want to love this dead franchise in peace) but I love interacting with them. One of my favorite games forever.

I freakin' _love_ Kid Icarus! I beat the first game over 30 times over. I used to have a spiral notebook with pages of passwords. When Pit showed up in the Brawl trailer, I lost my mind! So of course, Uprising's reveal had me stoked, and I'm so glad the game managed to kick ass despite not playing like the first two games. The humor could've easily gone wrong, but the script manages to delight throughout. It's just so damn good!
Don't forget that Hades said at the end of the game that we will have to wait 25 years before he comes back, so we already have a date, we just have to wait for the sequel.

not gonna lie, Kid Icarus: Uprising was easily my most played and one of my favorite games for my old 3ds. Was also one of the first times i really did anything with online play. also where is Kid Icarus: Uprising 2? the switch would be perfect for it too!
The only character I wish I knew more about was Magnus! He was so cool! I was so curious about his connection with dark lord gaol at the end of chapter 2.
It's crazy how deep this game is. Rail shooter, TPS, trophies, weapon fusions, different levels according to the difficulty, multiplayer, challenges... It's a shame it doesn't get a proper remake. With motion control or just dual analog on the Switch, this game could be the success it should have been.

Literally just finished my first replay of this game since release today, it has one of the best soundtracks in the system, and the best song in it is called dogs theme, which is just a fantastic name for a song
I rlly liked the aurum arc, it was the first time viridi was on our side which is good setup for later, even hades was on our side, it was rlly fun imo!

Kid icarus Uprising is one of my favorite games, I got obsessed with it at the time, it was the perfect showcase for the 3DS, the perfect game to justify all of the gimicks included. I do have a problem with the difficulty system though... in which if you want to beat all the levels in the highest difficulty (required for an achievement) you not only have to beat them but without dying in each level, since dying reduces the difficulty. So you either have to continue in the lower difficulty and waste your time, or get out of the level and try again, but it also costs a lot of hearts to even attempt it, so it is very possible to run out of money just by making attempts. Overall I found it very frustrating and I wish it could be tweaked in a sequel or port
Usually Im not one to push a game, but this is probably one of my favorite games ever and if it ever got a switch port I would be recommending it to everyone I know. I still think back to it fondly and seeing little bits of cinematics and gameplay in this video reminded me how stellar it was!
ughh i love uprising so much, was like my second 3ds game as a kid, and i think i only got it cuz the box art looked cool in the store, such a great decision, loved it so much, and i was genuinely so caught off guard at the hades reveal, i was completely satisfied when the game ended in 9 chapters with medusa, but i was so excited to find out it was a whole 25 chapters.
Big props for shedding light on this legendary forgotten gem. EASILY is the best 3D 3DS game. I’d love it ported on the Switch if they don’t feel like making a new one!
I really think Kid icarus has the same potential that both Xenoblade and Fire Emblem does to be a thriving franchise, but ig Sakurai and Nintendo are just way too stubborn to cash in on that. Kid icarus uprising is one of my favorite games ever made. The characters are so loveable, the gameplay and story is so fantastic, and the music goes hard. It's probably the most underrated game of all time in my opinion and i will die on that hill.
Honestly, Kid Icarus Uprising is probably one of my personal all-time favorite video games so seeing you talk about it here has me overjoyed to say the least.
I know the controls weren’t for everybody, but I personally feel like it worked wonders on the 3DS. The unusual control scheme made me feel really, well, on control of the action. Way more than the circle pad pro could‘ve. I also feel like, similar to gyro aiming, it allows for more accuracy with lower dependence on muscle memory, like it’s the case with using a mouse
I think Uprising was the thing that made Pit my favorite Nintendo (and probably video game) character, idk just him being comedic and making fourth wall breaks is gold (I mean its Sakurai, bro makes everything he touches a masterpiece)

The thought of remastering it to the Switch is perfect. Keep the 3D models, up the lighting engine, add split-screen support for the multiplayer, and make (a ton of money off of) a bunch of Amiibo figures for that AR mode, maybe add more content to the mode too. The opportunity for more buttons and button mapping alone would be a vast improvement for our wrists.
Kid Icarus is a masterpiece. Never a game made me genuinely laugh as much than this game. Every interaction is just too perfect. Viridi is awesome, Pit is a great protagonist, Tip started has a bit of a cliche but finished as a really fun character, Palutena is so much fun here and Hades is just one of the best protagonist ever made
Honestly I really like the Aurum. They are such a strong contrast to this mythical, magical world with their computery aesthetic. Also how could ANYONE forget about Pyrrhon? The sungod. The master of the pyroblaster. And when he fused with the aurum brain. That really gave me the spooks as a child.
Kid Icarus uprising is honestly one of my favorite games for the 3DS that I can remember. Sadly I eventually lost the game cartridge years ago yet still have the stand that comes with it.
I still feel like Nintendo solved the whole "These controls cause agonizing pain and have the potential to disfigure millions of wrists"-issue quite well. After all, after just two hours of playtime you completely stop feeling pain (and like... limbs, but I feel like the omelette-eggs thing applies here, except it's Nintendo and they can't create a creative control scheme without cracking a few children's wrists.)
This is one of my favourite games, I remember playing it a lot in high school (I'm 21, graduated when I was 18) My only problem, is that it was hard to play as a lefty

@@NeverSaySandwich1 it's interesting because while yes, the 3DS has a pretty neat light thingy that tells you when the battery is running out, the displays that Sakurai's game had were more precise and also hella convenient. You could get the same precise battery display by going out to the HOME menu, but that would involve interrupting your game :^)
Also shoutouts to Smash 3DS also having a permanently visible clock
You also couldn't go to the home menu during wireless play, so the battery is useful there.

This game is like the definition of “be glad it happened, not sorry it’s over” considering it probably should never have been this good

I’ve noticed that too, like the guidances in smash. It’s like people are getting more interested in these characters or at least showing more love for kid Icarus long after the release of Uprising. Gods and goddesses, I love Kid Icarus: Uprising. The gameplay, the graphics, the story, the characters, the humor, the content - it’s my absolute favorite 3DS game.
A lot of people complain about the controls being painful to use, but I decided to forgo the stylus and use the control pad to aim instead. And believe it or not, I’ve trained myself to perform well at the highest Intensities with that control scheme. I may not be able to adjust my aim during an Air Battle, but I won’t be getting early arthritis.
I should also mention that I have at least half of the game’s script memorized, not just because I’ve logged thousands of hours of playtime, but because the writing and voice acting is simply awesome.

8:14 actually, tapping the fire button just fires a charged shot. What you're thinking of is the melee attack which is done by tapping the fire button while the reticle is changed when an enemy is up close.

Ant dude, you should know that there likely weren't that many people playing multiplayer with you.
I know this because I played the game pretty much it's whole life, and I noticed through little quirks that less and less skilled players were playing with me. It got to the point where I realized I was just playing against computers which were automatically selected if no one was available. I would be lucky if I got one actual person, and they would quickly become the one to beat.
I believe you could even play if you weren't anywhere near an internet connection, I used to play offline online on the bus.
But there used to be alot of forum communities surrounding the game, so it wouldn't surprise me if there were still players.

The amount of love I have for this series can’t be described in this comment. I remember when I first played it and was absolutely addicted.. when it told me to take a break for the first time and I realized how long I’d been playing is when I realized his how much I loved it. For me,. The whole pain complaint people have wasn’t an issue,. I definitely felt it, but was legit so enthralled I hardly noticed, and usually quickly forgot as I began thinking about how cool the game is. What a way to make a world feel real with its endless list of amazing hilarious ever enthralling characters, there’s not one I dislike. I could talk so much about this game and any amount of fans I see talking about it warms my heart. I also don’t think I’ve seen a better community(probably because were few, and we just want to love this dead franchise in peace) but I love interacting with them. One of my favorite games forever.

I freakin' _love_ Kid Icarus! I beat the first game over 30 times over. I used to have a spiral notebook with pages of passwords. When Pit showed up in the Brawl trailer, I lost my mind! So of course, Uprising's reveal had me stoked, and I'm so glad the game managed to kick ass despite not playing like the first two games. The humor could've easily gone wrong, but the script manages to delight throughout. It's just so damn good!
Don't forget that Hades said at the end of the game that we will have to wait 25 years before he comes back, so we already have a date, we just have to wait for the sequel.
As someone who has this game as #1 favorite game of all time, you have my sincere gratitude for giving the game the credits and respect it deserves. Thank you very much, Antdude.

It's crazy how deep this game is. Rail shooter, TPS, trophies, weapon fusions, different levels according to the difficulty, multiplayer, challenges... It's a shame it doesn't get a proper remake. With motion control or just dual analog on the Switch, this game could be the success it should have been.
This is my game, I got 98% completion on this game, I played hundreds of hours of this game, I know EVERYTHING about this game, and it's a game that I will continue to love for another 25 years

I rlly liked the aurum arc, it was the first time viridi was on our side which is good setup for later, even hades was on our side, it was rlly fun imo!

Man this brings back memories. I 101% completed this game, beat all levels on intensity 9.0, and was hooked on the multiplayer.
Kid icarus Uprising is one of my favorite games, I got obsessed with it at the time, it was the perfect showcase for the 3DS, the perfect game to justify all of the gimicks included.
I do have a problem with the difficulty system though... in which if you want to beat all the levels in the highest difficulty (required for an achievement) you not only have to beat them but without dying in each level, since dying reduces the difficulty. So you either have to continue in the lower difficulty and waste your time, or get out of the level and try again, but it also costs a lot of hearts to even attempt it, so it is very possible to run out of money just by making attempts. Overall I found it very frustrating and I wish it could be tweaked in a sequel or port
Usually Im not one to push a game, but this is probably one of my favorite games ever and if it ever got a switch port I would be recommending it to everyone I know. I still think back to it fondly and seeing little bits of cinematics and gameplay in this video reminded me how stellar it was!
Remake, sequel, port. IDC, I just want it on the Switch. Could you imagine playing this updated controls?

ughh i love uprising so much, was like my second 3ds game as a kid, and i think i only got it cuz the box art looked cool in the store, such a great decision, loved it so much, and i was genuinely so caught off guard at the hades reveal, i was completely satisfied when the game ended in 9 chapters with medusa, but i was so excited to find out it was a whole 25 chapters.
Big props for shedding light on this legendary forgotten gem. EASILY is the best 3D 3DS game. I’d love it ported on the Switch if they don’t feel like making a new one!
I really think Kid icarus has the same potential that both Xenoblade and Fire Emblem does to be a thriving franchise, but ig Sakurai and Nintendo are just way too stubborn to cash in on that. Kid icarus uprising is one of my favorite games ever made. The characters are so loveable, the gameplay and story is so fantastic, and the music goes hard. It's probably the most underrated game of all time in my opinion and i will die on that hill.

Honestly, Kid Icarus Uprising is probably one of my personal all-time favorite video games so seeing you talk about it here has me overjoyed to say the least.
I know the controls weren’t for everybody, but I personally feel like it worked wonders on the 3DS. The unusual control scheme made me feel really, well, on control of the action. Way more than the circle pad pro could‘ve. I also feel like, similar to gyro aiming, it allows for more accuracy with lower dependence on muscle memory, like it’s the case with using a mouse
I think Uprising was the thing that made Pit my favorite Nintendo (and probably video game) character, idk just him being comedic and making fourth wall breaks is gold (I mean its Sakurai, bro makes everything he touches a masterpiece)

The thought of remastering it to the Switch is perfect. Keep the 3D models, up the lighting engine, add split-screen support for the multiplayer, and make (a ton of money off of) a bunch of Amiibo figures for that AR mode, maybe add more content to the mode too. The opportunity for more buttons and button mapping alone would be a vast improvement for our wrists.
Kid Icarus is a masterpiece. Never a game made me genuinely laugh as much than this game. Every interaction is just too perfect. Viridi is awesome, Pit is a great protagonist, Tip started has a bit of a cliche but finished as a really fun character, Palutena is so much fun here and Hades is just one of the best protagonist ever made
Honestly I really like the Aurum. They are such a strong contrast to this mythical, magical world with their computery aesthetic. Also how could ANYONE forget about Pyrrhon? The sungod. The master of the pyroblaster. And when he fused with the aurum brain. That really gave me the spooks as a child.
You know a game is so enjoyable when you can still play it even now. Especially the multiplayer
Kid Icarus uprising is honestly one of my favorite games for the 3DS that I can remember. Sadly I eventually lost the game cartridge years ago yet still have the stand that comes with it.

I still feel like Nintendo solved the whole "These controls cause agonizing pain and have the potential to disfigure millions of wrists"-issue quite well. After all, after just two hours of playtime you completely stop feeling pain (and like... limbs, but I feel like the omelette-eggs thing applies here, except it's Nintendo and they can't create a creative control scheme without cracking a few children's wrists.)
This is one of my favourite games, I remember playing it a lot in high school (I'm 21, graduated when I was 18)
My only problem, is that it was hard to play as a lefty
This game came out so early in the lifespan of the 3DS and is my favorite game on the handheld. If Kid Icarus ever comes back, I'm lining up for day one.
