@@ianesgrecia8568 After ultimate is finished i do see a 7 to 10 year gap with smash bros series and i with that gap i could see Pit making a return within that time or Sakurai could let someone else take over for kid icarus because him and his team deserve a break for putting ultimate in work since 2015 to 2021 I believe 2021 is the last anoucment for dlc.

ThePreciseClimber I disagree. Some games need to have story not all do. Something like mass effect needs story so you have a reason for the shooting without the story fighting through a base to plant a nuke wouldn’t have any impact. Something like Mario or donkey Kong don’t really need any story to be good.

Who else believes Dark Pit is heavily underrated. I personally think he’s one of the best anti heroes and his mini redemption felt honest

Dark Pit and Pit are literally just the best duo... ever. Their bickering, their temporary alliances with snarky comments, their PRE-BOSS RATTLING CRY HOLY SH--. Ahem, anyway. EVEN THE SILLY GUIDANCE IN SMASH BROS WAS GREAT.

Speaking about sakurai's attention to detail: in uprising there's a mechanic that stales your dodges the more you use them. In ssbu that mechanic was translated into smash's rolls and when sakurai showcased it in the ultimate trailer. They used pit as the example. That man is a genius

The lore is done by Shinya Kumazaki, the current director of Kirby. Sakurai left HAL Laboratory in 2004 and hasn’t worked on Kirby since.
@@Fannintendociccio1 to be fair, the lore of Kirby is pretty well hidden im a lot of cases. Especially in the newer games, because the lore is often in pause screen descriptions

I’ve been studying Greek mythology for about 3-4 years and I love seeing all of the references. Even if games keep getting Hades wrong, I can’t deny that Kid Icarus’s Hades is the best interpretation of the evil version of Hades
When he is mentioned palutenna sounds like she didn't expect him to be the villain, so I'm guessing in this game he just went rogue instead lf always being evil

Well the full theme is in Smash 3DS, but unfortunately it's not in Smash Wii U or Ultimate
Every day Kid Icarus Uprising isn't ported to Switch is a darker day for the world
A port with controls that don't require a stand or give hand cramps yet still feels natural would honestly make the Switch so amazing compared to what it is now.
Mind you I love the control scheme for the original Uprising... But I don't like stressing about if I might get carpal tunnel from it.

Warping Some of them are. That’s because the room can’t fill up within the time limit. The game won’t start unless there are at least two human players on both teams. For free-for-all, there need to be at least five humans. At least I think. I could be wrong.
You can tell who an npc is because they all have specific names. I forget exactly what they are, but its like character names like Link, Medusa, metroid, etc.

The online still may work, but when I tried it about a year or two ago everyone was an npc, so unless the online experienced a resurgence theres probably not many people still playing :’(

Sniper battles used to be sooooo confusing. I don't think anybody ever knew how they were ever killed by me, or vice versa. I know I was confused as hell since my only option in melee range was to spam button and hope grand god Ping is on my side
Kid Icarus Uprising is probably one of the games that mosts deserving of a re-release. I played it on the 3DS years ago and loved every moment of it, and it's a damn shame most people haven't enjoyed it due to the controls being honestly awful, mostly due to the limitations of the hardware.
EDIT: Just FYI, I personally didn't have many problems getting used to the controls, but I've lent out the game to many people and most come back saying that they abandoned the game because of the controls. A Switch port (now that we know that 3DS Ports could become a thing with the recent Miitopia port) could definitely fix that issue for so many.
I disagree the controls are amazing. It took me 2 chapters to get used to them but after they clicked they where awsome. That is honestly why I am not all that interestet in a rerelase on the switch. The controlls could not be the same and I found them perfect the way they are.
You can customize the controller setup if you want to use the right bottons instead of the touch screen, and it isn't that bad for land combat, but I can understand that some people never played with the setup in the settings of the game.
I wouldn’t say the controls are awful, but yeah they aren’t great, a switch remaster could fix almost every problem with the game and make it a true masterpiece.

i would give anything for a remake tbh. the base game was easy enough to get through but on harder difficulties it physically hurts your hands to play, even after button customisation.

willy the king a lot of things are original. shovel knight is a game about a knight with a shovel, wreck it ralph is a story about the video game villain, and sonic adventure 2 is a story where sonic goes to space and almost dies at one point. while this game is a sequel to many down the line, certain franchises like sonic or metal gear don’t really have anything else like it. of course, franchises are different, being stories told with the same characters and locations. the joker movie is a good example, the joker movie is almost entirely original, using only concepts from the comics, and guardians 1 and 2 have nothing in common with their counterparts in the comics, only they might look the same and are named the same. most of fiction is original, but usually the more outlandish bizarre shit.

The Kirby lore is pretty good, but I wish it was addressed more in the games instead of being crammed into a pause screen description or talked about during a developer QNA on something like Miiverse or Twitter. And Schaff is right, unless you actively search for the lore, the Kirby games do not have really good stories.

Imagine Kid Icarus Remastered on the switch, with splatoon style controls, HD models, character portraits showing up on the screen you're looking at, the multi-player but more balanced, maybe even another arc added onto the end. I want to see this so much that it makes me want to learn how to program so I could make an infinity engine for kid icarus instead of sonic

You hit it right on the nail; Uprising's story works purely because it never slows the pacing down. Aside from the start of Chapter 18 where you spend a couple brief gameplay moments [REDACTED], EVERY single chapter throws you right into the action while STILL having the time to explain surprisingly detailed lore and story beats. And even moreso, they pulled a Kirby and gave you some optional lore blurbs of certain characters and enemies with the idols; most of it is just fun little factoids, but it's cool nonetheless.
I might love Kingdom Hearts for how comedically complex it can be at times. I might love Persona for its down-to-earth setting juxtaposed with the colorful and deep casts. But Uprising will forever be one of my favorite stories to a game because everything from the humor to the plotline to the underlying message to HADES just works.
This video convinced me to buy Kid Icarus: Uprising just before the eShop closes (physical copies are expensive nowadays).
I bought it for $50 on eBay and dammit it’s worth it!

We also have to give a lot of credit to the team that translated the game into english. They did an amazing job. The jokes are very well crafted and they are made so that an western audience can enjoy. A lot of the Japanese jokes in the Japanese version are... well... made for a very Japanese sense of humor. Like your typical "perv" jokes. Which, I understand a lot of people enjoy, but still. They did an awesome job translating it for a western audience!
Probably my favorite bit of trivia about Kid Icarus Uprising’s localization is how they took a mistranslation from the original game and made that into a joke of sorts. In the first Kid Icarus game, Thanatos had his name misspelled (I think they had it a Tanatos), so when we finally reach his liar and Pit refers to him as his old name, that’s where we get the “I’m called Thanatos now, the “Tha” for THA-AMAZING!” line (or at least something very close to that, apologies for not remembering the line exactly). Such a creative detail. Kid Icarus Uprising probably has without a doubt one of my favorite localizations for a video game.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of, if not THE greatest game to come out on the 3DS. I had so much fun with everything the game had to offer, and anyone who hasn’t played it totally should.
So basically, Palutena's "Guidance" (they almost never help you in the fight) is a teaser of what Kid Icarus Urprising has to offer? Because i've seen those interactions with the trio of Palutena, Viridi and Pit, and are hilarious.

the dialogue was one of my favorite things about the game, it entertained me so much as a kid, and even when you replay the game, it never gets old

@@anonyme4881 That's why I said "teaser". I know it's not like the true experience but it tries to resemble that one using dialogues with Pit, Palutena, Viridi and Pittoo. Same thing with the Pit's iconic star KO "I never learned how to read". Basically and once more, through smash one can understand better certain game, and it's specially true for the stepson of Sakurai.

For being the actual first 3DS game in developement this game had everything. Polish, presentation, banger soundtrack, VA, iconic characters, features and a lot of little things to enjoy, so much so that it is an actual bullet point! This game is so good infact that when I created my Twitter acc waaaay back I had my ID named after this games MC. It might not be a second PMD2 but its a highly concentrated package of goodness, thus worthy of being called a "little masterpiece"

For a moment I thought you weren't going to bring up Hades to avoid spoiling him. I went into this game blind back when it released, and after beating Chapter 9, I was thinking "There's no way this can be it. There's gotta be a postgame." And then Hades tears through the credits, and it turns out I'm not even halfway through the game. It was probably the best surprise I've ever experienced in a video game, and it made the first nine chapters feel like warmup for what was up ahead.
I was actually content when the chapter nine credits started rolling,
i was satisfied with the experience. And then Hades shows up. Ho. Ly. Shit.
I love how the first bine chapters are almost a recreation of the original NES game, fighting the same villains in the same order to achieve the same goal, and then after the everything just explodes into something so much more than that. It's such a great tonal shift.

Funny things about this game's history:
- The original Kid Icarus was not a good game, but it had a lot of potential and interesting ideas in it. The character of Pit/Kid Icarus got a lot of push and promotion but unlike his companions on the N-Team Mega Man and Simon Belmont, his game was simply not much fun to play and puts possibly its hardest levels right at the start.
- It was Sakurai's favorite game as a kid.
- Once Sakurai grew up and started making games for Nintendo, particularly the runaway successes of Smash Bros., Nintendo greenlit him to make a sequel to Kid Icarus. I imagine this involved years of begging but I can't confirm that part.
- Sakurai put Pit in the 3rd Smash Bros. game with a full visual redesign before using said design for this game; Pit didn't make it into earlier games because Sakurai didn't want to give _too much_ favoritism to his personal favorites in the first two games. Hence Kirby, a franchise he made, not getting more than one playable character until Brawl despite their being room in the roster.
- Dark Pit was a Brawl color scheme for Pit before he was made his own character in this game. Him being a separate character in newer Smash games feels weird but I can kinda get behind it and while I don't agree with your conclusion, I 100% back up your defense of this decision as soundly logical and that any arguments against it come down to splitting hairs.
I have to HARDLY disagree on the topic of bias and favoritism. Kirby and kid Icarus are 2 example that prove the opposite, sakurai is EXTREMELY biased towards his games and preferences. Sakurai only puts stuff from kirby in smash 99.99% from the 3-4 old and irrelevant games he made, to the point of being extremely apparent and everywhere at times, while completely disregarding anything he didn't make, aka the entire rest of 20+ games and 23 years worth of legacy.
This even caused massive wrong stereotypes and contradictions to be spread online, such as characters represented horribly and much more, like dedede being thought to be the villain of the series that is a glutton (he is actually a quite complex character that develops and also not at all a villain, one of Kirby's closest friends) or the Kirby series being just for kids and storyless (which is anything BUT that)
As for kid Icarus, as soon as it was made it also had countless stuff and representation in smash (which at least is welcomed, unlike the Kirby massive and detrimental bias sakurai has, so that's all good for kid Icarus)
Bruh Kid Icarus is fun. Nothing special, but definitely entertaining and beatable, even in the early levels.
@@mistergrool3941 By trying to avoid enemies instead of fighting them, I can barely manage to make it _to_ 1-4 and then have few resources with which to solve the dungeon. By going out of my way to take my time and grind in the first few screens of the first levels, I still can't have enough hearts to _buy_ stuff that appears in the shops in said levels. Ratchet scrolling easily and hilariously kills as I ascend.
The game has _a lot_ of potential and good ideas in it, but it's _not easy_ . It's vastly harder than the first Zelda game, the first Mega Man game, and about on par with the first Castlevania game and a lot of the difficulty of its obstacles are not as well telegraphed.
@@Fannintendociccio1 The Sakurai games favoritism started with Brawl though, if you'd even argue it was strong _there_ . It wasn't present in Smash 64 or Melee; 64 had one playable Kirby character, 2 Pokemon, 4 from Mario, and 1 each from several other games. It had two items from Kirby (Star Rod and Maxim Tomato) and a good assortment from other franchises (Pokemon provided one, Zelda provided one, Mario provided multiple). Kirby might have wound up high tier competitively but this is an accident of his design and the game mechanics, and in casual play the eight starting characters are roughly on equal footing while the four unlockable characters consist of three who are generally a bit stronger overall than the main eight and one who is generally a bit weaker than the main eight.
Melee, Kirby had a single character again, a total of three stages (one that's just a wider version of his original stage with an added gimmick/hazard, one that's literally the stage from the first game but larger proportional to the characters, and one that's just a slightly slippery Battlefield and the two side platforms move up and down slowly) and out of the many more items brought in, maybe one or two of them were Kirby items? Kirby now completely by accident winds up at the bottom of the competitive tier lists instead of the top because the criteria competitive players use to tier characters aren't at all the same as the designers and testers look at to balance them. Zelda and Mario each got three more playable characters and Pokemon got two new ones.
Brawl, Kirby is equally important to Mario in the story mode, now has two frenemies added to the playable roster (King Dedede and Meta Knight). An item from Kirby's Air Ride is put into the item rotation and it's insanely powerful, but you need to get all three parts of it separately. Thing is, while Kirby got two new playable characters he wasn't the only franchise with newcomers. If Sakurai favoritism is a real thing in the franchise, this is the game where you could argue it _started_ but in my original comment I stated that part of the reason for not getting Pit (the hero of Sakurai's childhood favorite game) or other Kirby characters (another franchise Sakurai _made_ ) earlier in those first two games is because he didn't want to show too much favoritism then.
@@RoninCatholic Gonna have to disagree. Avoiding enemies will, in fact, make the game harder because you won't level up. This isn't explained well, true (or maybe it was in the manual back in the day idk). As for items, most of them are useless except for health pickups. So if you go through the game just gathering the hearts of enemies you kill and saving to buy health refills when necessary you should be fine. Don't get me wrong, it's a typical flawed NES game, meaning it's somewhat challenging by today's standards, but I would not consider it difficult in comparison to other NES games. Based on the ones I've played it's on par with original Zelda and easier than Metroid.

Kid Icarus uprising is the one game on the 3DS I definitely wanted to come back on switch as a remaster/remake. It is the one game I want to see more of or just come back. It's so unbelievably good.

Dark Pit calls out the gods for being selfish, 'holier-than-thou' pricks prone to fighting each other and then blaming most of the destruction on the humans. It's so good and fits Dark Pit as a character while also revealing a lot about Pit himself since Dark Pit is a reflection of his heart (which is why Dark Pit is just neutral and not evil, Pit is just *that* good of a guy). Pit himself would never dare speak up against the gods, but the reflection of his heart is sick and tired of the gods abusing and blaming humans the way they do. It's a minor line of dialogue, but it says SO much about Pit and Pittoo's characters.

As much as I've told people a port or sequel on Switch would be phenomenal, you have a point. Maybe Sakurai will grace us with another master piece after Smash is finally self-sustaining or something.

Saw a random trailer for the game back in the day and got interested. Went to my local gamestop 2 days after release. They, surprisingly, had a used copy (I discovered a save file in which all the chapters had been completed in 1,0 difficulty-- the person essentially bought it just to watch the story I guess?). Picked it up and instantly fell in love. I remember I loved it so much I got almost all the chapters finished at 9,0 difficulty, and I spent HOURS playing the online multiplayer because it was SO MUCH FUN. Truly an amazing game, and as you said, the characters in it are absolutely amazing. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
Listen, I think Viridi is my favorite character in the game. Best boss you'd ever want to work for, sassy, and she has a completely understandable and justified hatred for humanity like all of us.

In comparison to Kid Icarus Uprising they sort of are. Sure Metroid has fusion and the baby metroid, but other than that the series doesn't go too far with story. And with Earthbound the story is really janky and the blank protagonist doesn't really add anything (by design I know but still true.)
@@haruhirogrimgar6047 The story of Earthbound is meant to be kind of janky though. It is more a collection of events hold together with a weak connection of Giygas which allows these events to shine on their own accord.
I remember playing Kid Icarus Uprising and having a hard time beating Hades, so I looked up the Hades bossfight on TH-cam and found Chuggaaconroy's video. After watching it, I was able to beat Hades and finish the game. I loved playing Kid Icarus Uprising on my 3DS so much. I wish I still had it, or a Switch port, I just want to play the whole game again.

This was my first game for my 3DS back when it came out. After finishing it and beating it again it became my favorite game of all time. In 3rd grade someone stole my 3DS with this game in it and I was devastated lmao. I’m so lucky I got to buy this again this past year and relive it all over again. I’m so grateful this game is still talked about and is still alive.
As a left-handed, the default controls were a pain because I was naturally inclined to use the touch screen stylus with my left hand, but that meant I couldn't move and shoot at the same time. It got a lot better until I got used to moving with ABXY, but I still would have liked a bit more freedom in rebinding the controls.
Nevertheless, it has been and still is one of my top favorite games of all time since I ever played it

watching this now that the 10th anniversary is happening it really helps look back at this masterpiece of a game. yeah it has some problems but nothing's perfect and with the level of detail in this game and the amount of content in this game, (and probably the best use of streetpass on the 3ds) it really just makes me hope that we don't have to wait another "25 years until the next sequel"

10+ years later and it's still my favourite game of all time. I think it's pure perfection in terms of everything: gameplay, story, online multiplayer etc. God I keep coming back to watch this video just to see how many people know of this game out there.

I've never played this game, but the characters and their never-ending, endearing banter are what really drew me to it for the longest time. That, and Chuggaaconroy's legendary LP of the game.
I hope Sakurai gets to rest after he eventually finishes up with Ultimate, and then move onto something new when he's up and ready to do so.
SOMETHING FOR YOU FANS OF THE INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK: I have taken it upon myself to transcribe EVERY. SINGLE. TRACK. It's taking a long time, but in due time all of you will have more sheet music than just several arrangements of Dark Pit and like three other tracks. You have my word (although I can't promise perfect accuracy. I know every single melody like the back of my hand, but my ears aren't _that_ developed yet and can't always pick out all of the harmonies and effects. Also I'm still working on recognizing the different timbres of the various instruments used).

@@-JaggedGrace- Nope, but if you go to flat.io and search up Lightning Chariot Base you'll see my transcription of it (I still have to do percussion and refine some things but I'll get to that some other day). I also did one for Aurum Island but a lot of the effects (some of them sounded aleatoric) were pretty hard to replicate. I did my best. Right now I'm working on Magnus and the Dark Lord.
Good luck on "The chaos Vortex", the instruments are kinda swapping their tracks around, to the point that the piano is playing the string track and the strings play the piano track.
one of the greatest things or one of 100 things i love about this game has to be the amount of unique dialogue there is, like, if equip certain weapon or unlock a secret passage the game reward you with special conversation between characters and that's just phenomenal
Aw damn, I wish he mentioned the anime shorts that they released around the same time as the game. Specifically Palutena’s Revolting Dinner, which offers some adorable “slice of life” interactions between Pit and Palutena (and was animated by fucking SHAFT by the way).
