This is something you see within other franchises as well and I think it might be because a certain number of gamers are spoiled shits who seemingly CANNOT express themselves in anything other than superlatives and extremes. Things are either the best or worst, god's gift to man, or complete garbage.
Now, obviously not everyone is like that, and you know... even someone who's regularly known to be level-headed might momentarily, depending on how emotionally invested they are in X or Y game, express themselves like that... But to actually, continually hold that perception... is just very odd to me. I might really dislike a game, but you would never catch me saying it's fucking garbage or whatever.

The thing is with me and other Skyward Sword fans is that we are completely aware of the games problems. The game in my opinion has one of the best stories, dungeons, bosses, and music in any Zelda game. After admiring what the game does good at, it makes complaining about its problems feel like nitpicking at that point. It's funny because, Wii Sports Resort uses the Wii Motion Plus also, but I never heard anyone complain about the controls in that game. When I play Swordplay, it feels exactly like Skyward Sword. The controls can be an issue, but at least the Wii Remote doesn't drift.

Here not to rage or shit talk towards you, just pointing some stuff to make people that don't enjoy Skyward don't like even more the game:
Skwyard Sword had tons of issues, from a stamina mechanic bad implemented, to terrible boss designs (we fight Imprisioned 3 times, basicaly the same fight over and over again, and Tentalus, Swordfish with an infection with an eye as a weakpoint..), Fi stopping you for anything at all, etc
And you said that fans are completely aware of them, but you guys never agree on them, or even acknowledge them. And if people give you guys valid points and arguments on them, you usually, like you just did, call valid criticism as nitpicking. What really make people not appreciate the game, besides the obvious problems the game has, is having a fan base that pretends the huge problems doesn't exist, or that they are just trivial and shouldn't be mentioned. Criticize and accept cricitism on what we love, and still enjoying the thing, that really makes a person a fan of something in my opinion.
How rich is you mentioning Wii Sports as a example, just because the game uses the Wii Motion Plus, as comparison, when the argument about the motion controls on Skyward is not that they are not a good idea, but that they just don't work well on a Zelda game (plus they don't read the movements well enough while playing to say "well that's neat, well done Nintendo".
Those controls are awesome on Wii Sports, because we don't have issues with them while playing, while we get hit or get stuck hitting a enemy shield, over and over again on a zelda game, just because the motion controls are not working properly.
Noticing that, and not enjoying a gameplay revolved on this is not nitpicking, is just criticizing a big issue.
But thats just me, again not trying to get into a fight, just be carefull on how you see people that don't enjoy a game or midia that you really love. Most of the time is not "haters gonna hate", or nitpicking, sometimes there are valid arguments, and we just don't accept them because we are too blind/inlove with the thing to notice them.
      Stay awesome dude/dudete. o7

The areas repeating I don't think is as big a problem as people say it is. A couple of the fetch-quests are problematic, specifically escorting the robot and returning to the first dungeon, but for the most part either you're going to new places you haven't been or going through them in a totally new way like the stealth section of the Volcano area. And the sand-sea where the time-stone turns the desert around your boat into a lake is just amazing. Also, the imprisoned is not as bad as everyone says because you don't have to slash at his toes. If you use the sail to go to higher ground you can jump on his head and smash the stone seal back in from there. There's a lot more freedom in those fights than people realize.

Skyward sword is a good example why you shouldn't make a minigame gimmick as your main fighting mechanic. It's extremely slow and annoying for experienced player und extremely unrewarding for noobs, that played games like wii sports resort before, where the same mechanic was used, with the difference that in that game, errors didn't had grave consequences as in SS. There are reasons why a lot of people complained or remembered that the motion controls were bad, while the controls in itself are spot on and weren't the problem.

Loved the video, really in depth and informative. I'm glad you outlined it's all your personal opinion because some people take what is said on YT vids like its fact. So with that I'd like to formally disagree with you on revisiting the main 3 areas in this game. The reason being? Well it's nothing new if you have played the Zelda franchise then you are no stranger to revisiting areas. You did it in A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess and A Link Between Worlds. Granted I understand some of those older games had limitations of their time due to hardware but some of them just were plain underwhelming. For instance you come back to the 3 main areas in OoT that consist of Kokiri's Forest, Death Mountain and Zora's Domain. However some were just were so weak. You come back to Death Mountain namely the Kakariko Village Graveyard to get to the Shadow Temple and sadly. . . it's just a graveyard one we've already seen. We come back to Zora's Domain for. . . .an ice cave. . . . .seriously?
Where as in Skyward sword the revisits bring you to entire explorable areas. I was absolutely excited and thrilled to go and see what these areas had, always on the look out for Goddess cubes. While true some of these areas just felt like a long overdue extension of the previous area Skyward Sword just did it right. IN MY OPINION of course. I DO agree with you that the whole quest for song pieces sucked ass, not a single one of them was likable at all. I also agree the game would have greatly benefited from a form of quick accessible fast travel between the 3 different areas. At least Ocarina of Time had the different songs to take you to several locations in those areas specifically. Even Wind Waker had a fast travel. I guess I can understand the dislike for revisiting areas because they were all separated by way of the Sky as opposed to other previous titles it was either a teleportation fast travel or simply walking across Hyrule itself.
Though I think that largely comes in due to the fact the story outlines the land is inaccessible because of the cloud barrier. Whats worse is even though they claim that Loftwings won't fly below the barrier they clearly do at the end when we see Groose and his buddies fly back into the Sky with their Loftwings. Though it makes you wonder if the Loftwings didn't simply because the threat of Demise and other monsters and after he was defeated it was safe? Either way the Loftwing could have provided a fast travel option but maybe they really wanted you to feel the vastness of the Sky? Other than that I really agree with the rest of your points. Again great video.

Not to mention that the story is probably one of the best in the series as a whole too. It's not another "Fated hero saved fated princess from fated evil" like literally every other one. It's a guy who's trying to save his childhood friend after she gets lost in a place no one knows about. Not to mention, you literally forge the Master Sword as we know it, how can you not think that's the coolest concept in the entire series?!

    • @tripodranger7873
      @tripodranger7873 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

"It's not another "Fated hero saved fated princess from fated evil" like literally every other one."
It is, though. Zelda is fated by being Hylia's reincarnation, Link is literally told he's her destined hero by Fi as soon as they meet, and Demise is the ancient sealed evil that was fated to return. You could spin the other games similarly to how you did. WW is a boy trying to save his sister after she was kidnapped by a giant bird. TP is a ranch hand trying to free his home from an invading dimension. Hell, games like Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask have nothing to do with Zelda or Ganon.

    • @Kahadi
      @Kahadi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Spoilers for anyone that doesn't know the full story, though I'm assuming the one that made the original comment knows it all:
I'd agree, except... Well, you literally are the fated hero, in at least one way. You are the Goddess Hylia's Chosen Hero, and Zelda is the incarnation of the Goddess Hylia. And you are destined to fight Demise. Literally everything is set up for that to be the case, from Zelda's nightmare foretelling what happens to Fi guiding you to the sword to Impa waiting through time to guide you to the dragons waiting for Hylia's Chosen Hero. Even the Silent Realm was set up as a test to prove who you are. Then there's the more iffy time travel causality loop at the end, where you go back in time to fight and defeat Demise in person instead of the Imprisoned. That right there kind of enforces your destiny just for a stable time loop, though that's more debatable given the unclear way in which that all works anyway.
Overall, while it seems that way at first, that you're just a young man heading out to save his childhood friend, its very quickly shown to not be the case at all. The only way it differs from you being the fated hero saving the fated princess from the fated evil is that... Well, Zelda isn't a princess in this game, she's just the fated damsel in distress, with a twist.

The Silent Realms is arguably where you see what the direction of the overworld was going for - a dungeon unto itself. if, for example, there were certain shrine trials in Breath of the Wild that challenged you to traverse the area around it as a silent realm, I don't quite think it would work as well since the focus was on letting people handle the challenge the way they wanted. with Skyward Sword you're down to just Link - no bells or whistles, just your own wits and more than a little luck when it comes to the chasing. they're certainly a worthwhile addition.
And I would argue the same for the Tadtones, to be frank. a massive swimming-based adventure through a familiar, flooded location is the kind of stuff we should've been able to get with Sunshine when Delfino Plaza got flooded. its just a shame that swimming is such a heavily underused mechanic since only one area really allows for it in the whole game, save small parts of the sky.

I'm still surprised that people actually say that Skyward Sword is the worst Zelda game. It might theoretically be the objectively worst 3D Zelda game, even though I disagree (I have a lot of problems with OoT for example), but it's CERTAINLY not the worst Zelda game as a whole. I'd say that title has to go to Triforce Heroes on the 3DS by a long shot. I have it, the last time I played it was years ago and the servers were dead in the water, not to say that playing it with randoms was a legitimately good way to play it from the start, but if one of the 2 primary ways to play it is impossible, it's a bad situation. Playing on your own isn't good, because it's a multiplayer centric game. That leaves playing with friends, and even then, it's just a worse Four Swords with three players instead of four, using the Link Between Worlds engine, and you can dress Link up as a cheerleader, a Mario Hammer Bro, and Tingle himself, and when Tingle is involved, it makes everything a lot more... *odd*, for better and for worse.

In my Ideal World, things like the Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo would still exist, but the ability it gives would eventually be unlockable.
In my opinion, that's how everything like that should work. Make it so that the incentive to buying an irl item isn't to have the ability to something that you can do only with that item, make it so that having it unlocks it early.
For Example: After seeing Zelda and Impa enter the Gate of Time, Link would head to the Sealed Temple to meet with the Old Lady like instructed. Groose falls down with you, you both go to the Sealed Temple, you fight The Imprisoned, but now, as a thanks for taking care of The Imprisoned, the Old Lady gives you a Miniature Bird Statue. This would allow you to call your Loftwing from anywhere (excluding inside Dungeons of course), as the Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo does. Now, what the Zelda and Loftwing Amiibo would do, is when scanned, give you this item EARLY, and the Old Lady would have changed dialogue saying something along the lines of "Oh! You already have a Miniature Bird Statue" and then give a short reminder of what it does
Persona 5 does a similar thing, as well as a lot of games, where starting a New Game+ file allows you to carry over certain buffs that give you an advantage in the start, but a bit different

It just hit me how long it's been since Skyward Sword came out. It's actually the first major Zelda game to come out after I got into the series, and I remember being excited about it before its title had even been revealed yet. I was excited to get my hands on it, and because I originally planned to do a blind playthrough of it on my channel, my little sister got to play it before me. It's now ten years old, and it feels weird that there's now an HD remaster of it. I find it strange to think that I've been a fan of the Zelda series for almost half my life at this point. The change in opinion this game has gone through in the eyes of the Zelda fandom has been quite large and unpredictable.

The 1st ever 3d LoZ game I ever tried to play was skyward sword, and while I started off really liking the game, I distinctly remember liking it less and less, and eventually abandoning the game after the 1st dungeon, mostly due to the motion controls. I proceded tlo than try Twigiht princess, and fall in love with the game, notably the creepy atmosphere, the unique dongeons (the forest temple, the fire temple with the magnetic surfaces, the desert temple with the spinning top thing that allows to ride the wall rails, the frozen mansion with the ball and chain, and the sky temple that has you dual wielding grappling hooks all stood out to me as incredible, and the final dongeon is creepy AF), and Midna of course. I have also played the original version of Wind Waker, and that game also clicked with me in a way that what I played of skyward sword didn`t It doesn`t help that I have also seen most of skyward sword in playthough form, and the lack of theme variation and repeated backtracking is really offputting to me
All of this to say that I am mostly indifferent to the existance of skyward Sword on switch, and may even pick it up and give it another shot at some point if I find it at what I would consider a more reasonable price (under 40€) , but I would`ve vary much prefered a switch port of Wind Waker HD, or Twilight Princess HD, even at full price... (Tbh I`m honestly kinda bitter that we haven`t gotten them yet, and will call bullshit if we never get them at all)

This was my first Zelda game, and it holds a special place in my heart, part of it is nostalgia and the rest having my own taste, but I liked the first revisits, it felt like the game expanded and made the generic looking locations visually more interesting (except for Eldin), the second revisit is where I see the main padding of the game happening. I loved the motion controls, it felt like their own amazing puzzle with multiple ways to solve them. I'm glad that people get a new chance to play this game with important improvements and different ways to play.
And no the last scentence didn't invalidate the video, you're just wrong about Majora's Mask

Skyward Sword is better than Breath of the Wild. Skyward Sword's structure is fine if limited, but Breath of the Wild is 30 hours of content spread super thin across at least 120 hours if you ignore the Korok seeds. Also I prefer the Wii version of Skyward Sword since the motion controls aren't so temperamental & while the button controls work, they weren't layed out properly.

I played BOTW for around 120 hours but looking back my enjoyment really stopped around the 40 hour mark. Also we've had years of videos about BOTW on YT. I never want to see another shrine or bokoblin ever again.

BOTW shrines snd seeds would be more enjoyable if there wasn’t as much you had to collect over the course of the adventure but it is the better game imo

@@brendanlafferty9814 also more diversity in design would have been great. All shrines are based on the same basic layout. with no visual Differentiation between regions. Like most open world games BOTW basically reuses all it's assets too often.

If this is honestly the worst zelda game then that says something! To me at least. It says (again to me) this is at the very least a good game and I think some of these AAA devs need to pay attention.

Considering you can turn Fi's tips off and her popping up what felt like every 10 seconds to stay unskippable dialogue was without a doubt my biggest frustration with SS in general. I am definitely willing to give this version a go. I did beat the original Wii version but I do want to see if just turning off FI is what was really keeping me from getting engrossed in the game.
