Quick video to show how to remove PUP or potentially unwanted programs like dodgy search providers or search engines in the Google Chrome Browser.
Sometimes when running an anti virus scan or malware detection program you may find you have PUP's or unwanted redirects in the browser which can influence the search results to either a known shopping site or maybe even a harmful version of the well known sites.
Removing these entries is quite easy to do even if some AV programs will only either remove them until you next reboot or fail altogether!
As always before you make any changes to your system make a backup or system restore point just in case you need to reverse any changes.

hello, i'm on windows 10 and things seem to be different there, so i did this:
-go to chrome settings
-scroll all the way down to reset configuration and click on "restore original default values of configuration"
and done :) so far it worked!

I accidentally installed a PUP from a Music Editor program thing and Chrome wouldn't stop switching to Yahoo, but after following this tutorial the problem has been resolved

Justo go the restore setting to default and it will delete the bug til appears again. That's the only solutions I fint til this moment. And of course use other explorer

What is cometsearch? It is bothering me and I just noticed it today. It says my chrome is managed by an administrator, but it is my pc.

Until. I tried a lot of things. The thing I’m guessing worked was using Avast software and going into the settings and changing them to make it work. I would do a lot of research.
So I have a MacBook and on my search engine it says "GeneralCommand is controlling this setting" and I tried to remove to but it didn't allow me too. Also when I try to look something up it automatically searched with Microsoft Bing and it's really frustrating because I want my search engine to be with google. It also does this with safari and when I go to safari preferences it literally says my search engine is with google but when I go to look something up, it searches with Microsoft Bing. I don't know if this makes any sense to you at all because it was difficult to explain but if you can help please help me!!!
in the system settings in users look for any profiles that should not be there and remove them and reboot
Need help. Have a search engine called hyperlink search and says it's controlled by your admin and I can't remove it. And I can't get anti virus because you have to pay for those.

create a new user profile and see if you can use it, if so delete the old user profile after transferring anything you need to keep
Hey! I had over 300 detections from fast browser. My computer started to crash, flicker black and lag for no apparent reason and it seems like whatever programme was infecting the PC took up a lot of room. I have quarantined all of the malicious files, they all begin with PUP. I then had to get another programme to actually remove it from my PC, thank god its gone. I am going to double check it is gone from my chrome in the morning!

I have the “linkvertise search engine” stuck on my computer and it is associated with internet explorer even though I do not have it, but it doesn’t show up as a file anywhere on my computer. I have tried everything thing but it’s still there, do you have an idea what is happening?

Thanks for the tutorial, Mike! Edge Chromium seems to work pretty well - probably going to stick with that for a bit. I know all the cool kids use Chrome.
to be honest i prefer edge chromium but some of the daily tools i use like tubebuddy have not been added to the extensions yet so i am stuck on chrome

everyone just go to settings and look for Reset and clean up. click restore settings to their original defaults. works for me.

I downloaded adwear cleaner, it didn't mention the bing or yahoo search engines that have embedded themselves in my search engines settings. Clicking on the three dots does not give the option to remove them. All it does is ask if you want to make the malware vs. google your default but the url is stuck there and greyed out so that you cannot get rid of it. Please help.

Privacy and security -> Cookies and other site data -> See all cookies and site data -> search “.ru”, find yandex and mail ru and delete them

The search engines I wish to delete, In Chrome Settings manage......do not show the option Delete, only two options given...Edit?

im still unable to remove it. i have tried resetting settings and removing all extensions still nothing. i dont have the option to ''clean computer'' it wont let me remove basic skill. is there an updated tutorial. im on mac

i have this search engine called 'searches.cloud.com' . and when i go to the settings to the search engines, i click on the three dots and nothing shows up on the side. Ive tried going to control panel and uninstalling it from there but it's taking me to the tab saying i need to click 'im not a robot' and download uninstaller. Is there ANY way to get rid of it. If so plsss make a vid of you explaining on how to get rid of it.

i got a fishy file which i have no permission to delete whatsoever, also an extension im not able to delete due to not having permission. am i doomed?!??

I got the safefinder malware on my laptop and it removed my google accounts and set it to where its being controlled by an organization so I factory resetted. When I finally factory resetted, everything was okay but the safefinder still pops up even though it doesnt appear in extensions and my malwarebytes still detects it.

Hey I was watching anime on kissanime and I got a pop up saying to update to the newest chrome protection and other times it's the same thing but it says that I have a virus do you you now why?
that is malware or programs trying to trick you into clicking on the warnings to install bad things

My Default search engine is Qsearch and its not letting me delete it. I can just edit it and once i am putting google.com as address its not accepting.

Not useful at all. My Google says my computer is being administered by an organization. I tried malware bytes and nothing, I tried uninstalling and nothing either.

when going to manage search engines, clicking on the three dots does not give a "remove" option. I cannot remove any of them.
