Good video. Boosters sold for $4/pack (not $11) and contained 8 random cards. There were 120 different cards that could be collected in the booster set. The cards from boosters were not required for play, however, as the boxed game came with 80 cards (40 mutations/40 tech items) that could be used by the GM and the group. The booster pack approach did not help the game's popularity as you rightly point out.
Cards are a money making scam. It's a non-cute way to add extra money onto the base game system. It really is un-faithful to the original game environment, and insults a broad array of past and present gamers. ( the attribute listings for NPC's might be a bonus, considering the lack of such, in early editions ).
so looking at Mutant crawl Classics, Gaslands etc and trying to work out a post apoc gonzo world, any familiarity with previous Gammaworld editions or know of any other systems that work well?
It depends on what kind if game you want to run . TSR 4th edition that was compatable with AD&D 2nd edition had 4 classes and a few skills for each class but I house ruled AD&D 2nd edition non weapon proficiencys with some skills being class based but could be learned by any class but at a higher skill point cost . Check RPG DRIVE THRU for the versions they have in pdf form and they are cheap
@@williamlee7482 nothing like familiarity. thinking in the vehicular combat keeping it Gaslands, with mutant effects etc being passenger only gaslands template effects. Out of car other system, with maybe some sponsor traits being reworded as character abilities.
@@samuelbroad11I always thought garlands was a tabletop vehicle combat simulator due to the rules of play . If you are looking for an rpg that can simulate garlands but on a more rpg level then The Mutant Epic might be something to look into . Because it has vehicles and vehicle combat to a degree but what makes it a cool post apocalyptic rpg is the skill junk crafter and at a certain skill level players can create vehicles from wrecked or junked vehicles , any thing from motorcycles , cars , military vehicles to flying vehicles like the biplane , blimp and gyrocopter . It's kind of like Mad Max with mutants on steroids and is not pc friendly at all due to the inclusion of many things the sjw crowd would find offensive such as slavery which isn't based on race but on the need for cheap labour or as punishment for some crimes . One thing many people might not like us that race and occupation are both rolled randomly and that the ability scores use a d100 table to determine the ability score . But the random roll for race and occupation can be ignored and allow players to choose what they want to be It's a very gritty game but can be tailored to fit what you want with a little bit of work . I tailored my game so that all the players are tribesmen in a caravan tribe that uses junk built vehicles to move around in when they need to move . I like the gritty game play because it give the players an external goal ( like hunting down slavers and freeing the slaves ) to achieve besides what ever goal they have .

It's not out yet, but Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland might be worth a look when it releases. Also Residuum is worth a look too.
