Looking at this reminds me of the joy of physical games. Like when computer games were only sold in physical boxes in stores with manuals and everything. Used to enjoy opening it up and reading the manual.

It is an amazing looking game, and it really captures the feel of the original game. Based on our current plays it also have a really solid gameplay, at least for 2 player clash and solo campaign play.
Crazy that they managed to fit everything in a single box, or trunk! To have that out and on display for quick access would take up an entire bookshelf.
20 years ago a did board game about HOMM by myself, but it took year to do, it contained 1 big map, 2-3 battlefields. New army of Japanese in it, with ninjas, shoguns, Dragons.
@@DadsGamingDK First of all, I did not know how to do 'game engine' to play it, it took time to think. Then, it took time to draw all of units, portraits, castles, and I did not good at arts. A did many of board games, but in genre Beatemup, like streets of rage and golden axe. After it, I did modern Heroes, about street wars between street gangs.
We also did a handmade board HOMM-3 with my friends in the country in summer. Maps drawn with pencils on several A4 sheets, small cards with resources and monsters and locations like mills, mines etc, and thick copybooks to put down statistics: current armies, resources, heroes levels and stats … :-) Then one summer Egor brought PC from Moscow to the country. And so our papers turned into useless piles 😅

I built one too. Couldn't get the battle system simplified tho. My maps were hand drawn on grid paper. They followed the look of the map editor. structures were written abbreviated into the squares, treasures, resources too. Monsters were written in as a code L3-F for level 3 monster roll d8 for type, few roll for d6 amount. Fights took way too long because when you use the games math it takes forever even on a calc. I thought about just loading values into an Excel sheet but never got to it.

For all of you HoMM3 fans (one of my favorite games of all time), check out Age of Wonders 4. It will give you that warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling. They're still developing (quality) DLC for it.

Yeah seems odd, we know the guys at Archon spend a lot of time talking to Ubisoft to get permission to use the IP. Which then resulted in a rather successful KS campaign, maybe Ubisoft should try the same 😝😎
It's an awesome game, we have played the first 3 Heroes of Might and Magic games over and over again. So this was a really neat surprise, especially as the boardgame adaptation is so true to the original game.
it's very inspiring that my favorite game is now available in such a wonderful tabletop version, taking a break for your eyes from playing it on a PC or Steam console, you can gather around the fireplace in your family castle with friends and family and continue playing the tabletop version, and then put everyone to bed, turn on the PC or console and continue playing on the screen :-) This is definitely a good investment!
Agreed, even though you can play the PC version hotseat or even online, this just brings everybody together in another way. This also one of the main reasons we're in to board games at all. The social interaction and ping pong around the table is something we didn't really experienced when playing on PC or Console, again you can do it hot-seat though.
looks well put together. I almost backed this, I was going to be all in until I saw more on the gameplay, and then decided it wasn’t for me. I instead went with Adventure Tactics as my big box game, and so far I’m not regretting it. I hope you do end up enjoying this though.
Until now we have enjoyed it, but nice to hear you actually did some research and then decided it wasn't for you. This is an awesome looking game, with solid gameplay, but it is mostly an very good 1 player solo game, 2 player "skirmish" game, and maybe 4 players in alliance mode (we haven't tried that yet)
It does look amazing, and we were also blown away. Also it captures almost all the different parts of the original game in a really nice way, when played on the tabletop.
They having a re print and with added expansions for the 2 remaining factions + a popular fan mod faction. Pretty hyped for it and considering placing an order for everything

And they have done it wonderfully, we can recommend Heroes of might and magic 3 in boardgame form. It almost feals like hotseat, and we are looking foreward to making our next video with it. A coop game to see how that mode feals.
Yeah! The PC game was fantastic, and this is an amazing adaptation of that game. We do think the marketing and publicity was a bit on the low end for the first KS campaign, but this time around Archonhave really managed to get the Gamefound campaign out wide. Hopefully this results in most people interested in the game, having a chance of getting it, including the limited edition boxes and exclusive expansions.

We actually discussed this after unboxing the game, and talked about how many hours we played this hot seat and later over IPX network back in our youth. It is an awesome game, and still is today, and this is a great adaption of it
I actually put this game to paper 15 years ago. Interesting how they did it. I feel like I had better maps. But I could never settle on a simplified battle system. A fight would last like 45 minutes because all of the calculations each hit.
Based on the comments we get, it seems like a lot of people have made their own adaptations of this game over the years. And it is really interesting to hear what they did different from this "official" board game.
Looks nice as a fan/collector just for the cards, booklets and figurines. No idea how the gameplay would compare to that of the real HoMM3. Also, it's surprising to see there is a board game in 2024 of a game that came out in 1998...
Other than actually being an awesome adaptation of the original PC game, it is indeed also a very nice collectible. We're seing a lot of old games either being adapted to board games and old board games being relaunched. We have just recorded a video with a board game from 1986 which have relaunched with its 5th expansion. Seems like people are really into retro games these years.

i like the idea of these games in theory. in practice its an hour of setup and putting away every single time, and you won't get a game done in one session, so multiply that by however many sessions it takes and.... well... you better really enjoy setting up and tearing down and sorting and organising everything because that's what you'll spend most of the time doing.
This is one of those games that really benefit from a good storage solution. The big box inserts is pretty descent but there is way better custom inserts. We can setup the game for 2 players in around 20 minutes with the big box inserts, and tear down in about the same time. We will noemalyy play one or two games in a single session.
Agreed, actually a lot of the exploration phase reminds of Mage Knight. But again why not seek inspiration in existing awesome games, which Mage Knight definetely is in our opinion.
There is no units from the WoG-Mod. But it can seem like it because the WoG-Mod re-used existing models but with new names and in some cases colors. Yes this is an amazing game, and such a love letter to the original PC version.

@@GI_D204 Yes some of the dragons are from the later expansions and chronicles series. And yes the artbook shows really how true the team at Archon have been to the source material.
Nahh, a lot of things have been simplified for the Boardgame. It just feels that way because you have to remember all of the things yourself, instead of the computer doing it for you.
when i was a kid, 20years ago, ive made my own table game similar to dnd rules, and i was printing it using heroes3 towns, crearures and spells and weapons, it was quite well made and interesting to pkay with dices

Hi and thanks for watching. We understand why these complete boxes are the ones people want, but unfortunately we don't know for sure, wheter they will make a new complete box. Our thought is they will come with a complete big box when the last factions are released to finish of the series.

It takes up some table space, but actually a lot less than some other games. We have been able to play it comfortably 2 players on a extra folding table we use for recording. Also very soon another video will be published how to setup the game and this also shows the actual game footprint on table.
Interesting enough, most of the big games have dome of the smallest rulebooks. An interesting set of big games is are the ones with simple rules, where more rules is added through additional components as you progress. Oathsworn is an amazing game which uses this principle.

You're pretty close, it captures the original feeling of waiting 2 hours for the other players to take their turns 😛 All jokes a side the game playes pretty fluid and takes around two hours for 2 players, not using the battlefield expansion
You can buy the game directly from Archon Studio archon-studio.com/shop/games-1/heroes-of-might-and-magic-iii/heroes-of-might-magic-iii-1 but the big box is not available at the moment. You might be lucky someone wants to sell their copy or a company have bought a couple of copies for resale.
It was around 180$ and it was as far as we know sold world wide, it isn't available at the moment, but we guess an updated version will be available as more expansions is released.
Damn I play Homm3 to this day, it has the best gameplay loop and balance from all Homm games. And this is maybe the first board game I'm going to play, but I guess it costs a fortune lmao
We also still play HoMM3 though mostly single player. This game is actually in the cheaper end of "Big Box" games, at around 180$ (still a lot for a boardgame though)

where did you got this box ? i went to their website and HOMM3 board game they are selling over there with dimentions of 300mm x 300mm x 60mm is like 1/4th the size of what you have
Thanks for the question. The board game is a bit different in this way, as you only have access to your chosen faction and its town board. Capturing a other factions town doesn't give you access to use their town board, and the player losing their town doesn't lose access to their buildings and can still hire units.
This version was originally available after the KS ended as part of the post campaign pledge manager. Latest it have been available as part of the new expansion crowfunding campaign on Gamefound. Wheter it will be available again at some point is hard to say, and we will just have to wait and find out.
We have punched everything out and played the game several times. The worst part was the missing guide to how everything should be stored in the compartments (especially with sleeved cards), but after reaching out we got a pretty good idea of how to pack everything without any problems. If you're interested we can do a short video about it?
@@DadsGamingDK ye its my friends game but we had some trouble trying to fit all the punch stuff and not blend it allThe plastic chips also made it hard. Im no fan of the big all in one plastic inserts. Hard to get stuff out without either picking it one by one or tipping it all att once.
When the KS campaign got its pledge manager launched, Archon Studio came out with an offer of either the individual boxes or one big box. Also the offered plan miniatures or pre-shaded miniatures.
I got mine. I sent an email to them to complain that their autographs ruined that black dragon picture. They should at least give another black dragon picture with no autographs. 🙂
We really loved the autographed picture, nice to have something a bit more unique as we have very little wall space to hang it on (Allowed to by wives) but yeah would have been nice with a plain version of the picture in addition
Depends on what you're thinking of. For a single scenario 2 players is around 2 hours, same goes for solo. We don't have the experience for 3-4 player games, so can't give a valid time for that. If you're thinking of the whole campaign/campaigns it's quite hard to say. You have 5 mission books, with a total of 21 campaign missions, so given the average time we have experience until now, you're probably looking at around 42-50 hors of campaign.
I do not understand why there is no remake for this game. Everything can be as before with minor upgrades (graphics, artifacts, powers, creatures, castles etc). It would be great
They tried with their HD versions, but it was not done with the needed respect to the original, but agreed a actual remake, where everything stays as is would be awesome.
I will most likely split the game up between the game I am playing and leave the rest of the components in the original box. The fact that you cannot sleeve the cards and store them in the box makes using a seperate box necessary.
There is a lot of components such as the miniatures which is not used unless you play clash or alliance. On the topic of sleeved cards, it is possible to store all the cards sleeved in the box, you just have to use sleeves of 60 microns or less. We have all ours sleeved with sleeve kings.
For this box you need 661 standard size card sleeves. If you want to store all the cards back in the box sleeved, the thickness should not be more than 60 microns. We have sleeved ours with Sleeve Kings standard sleeves.

We have heard that a lot 😉 We're talking about the game just to make it clear. The big box is such an amazing box, not only because it pack everything in a single box but also the simple and clean apperance is very well done.
After all, every day here is some kind of battle. Sometimes big, sometimes small. With a crazy werewolf, with a Dark Magician, with all the forces of Darkness at once. Tension of forces, protruding chins, bulging eyes, readiness to jump with your chest on an embrasure or bare ass on a hedgehog.

It is an amazing looking game, and the price was fair compared to the size of the game and the amount of components. But again if you don't have the time to play it, then no game is worth the price.
Unfortunately this is a special edition with all the expansions from the KS campaign (minus Stronghold). So as of right now you can only buy the core game and the different faction expansion as individual boxes. But we hope to see a revised version of this box as the next three expansions are released.

Yes it is an insane amounts of components in that big "trunk", and just the box alone take up 1,5 "Kallax" unit of top space.

We actually discussed this after unboxing the game, and talked about how many hours we played this hot seat and later over IPX network back in our youth. It is an awesome game, and still is today, and this is a great adaption of it

It is, and heavy as well. So even though it is easier to bring it along, compared to all the individual boxes, it definetely requires some muscle.

Yes compared to Oathsworn, this is a leightweight game. Also Oathsworn is actually one of our favourite games here on the channel.

Ye, it is an amazing boardgame adaption, and lucky for you, Archon just launched their new KS where you can re-order this big box.
I actually put this game to paper 15 years ago. Interesting how they did it. I feel like I had better maps. But I could never settle on a simplified battle system. A fight would last like 45 minutes because all of the calculations each hit.
Based on the comments we get, it seems like a lot of people have made their own adaptations of this game over the years. And it is really interesting to hear what they did different from this "official" board game.
Looks nice as a fan/collector just for the cards, booklets and figurines. No idea how the gameplay would compare to that of the real HoMM3.
Also, it's surprising to see there is a board game in 2024 of a game that came out in 1998...
Other than actually being an awesome adaptation of the original PC game, it is indeed also a very nice collectible. We're seing a lot of old games either being adapted to board games and old board games being relaunched. We have just recorded a video with a board game from 1986 which have relaunched with its 5th expansion. Seems like people are really into retro games these years.

i like the idea of these games in theory. in practice its an hour of setup and putting away every single time, and you won't get a game done in one session, so multiply that by however many sessions it takes and.... well... you better really enjoy setting up and tearing down and sorting and organising everything because that's what you'll spend most of the time doing.
This is one of those games that really benefit from a good storage solution. The big box inserts is pretty descent but there is way better custom inserts. We can setup the game for 2 players in around 20 minutes with the big box inserts, and tear down in about the same time. We will noemalyy play one or two games in a single session.
Warhammer is the same and that's been working for us for over 30 years.

Agreed, actually a lot of the exploration phase reminds of Mage Knight. But again why not seek inspiration in existing awesome games, which Mage Knight definetely is in our opinion.

There is no units from the WoG-Mod. But it can seem like it because the WoG-Mod re-used existing models but with new names and in some cases colors. Yes this is an amazing game, and such a love letter to the original PC version.
@@DadsGamingDK Ah ok, then it must be from the expansions "Armageddons Blade" or "Shadows of Death" in regards to the Azure Dragons, Crystal Dragons and Ferie Dragons, awesome. I liked the artbook you can see the dedication of this people in every piece they crafted.
@@GI_D204 Yes some of the dragons are from the later expansions and chronicles series. And yes the artbook shows really how true the team at Archon have been to the source material.

Nahh, a lot of things have been simplified for the Boardgame. It just feels that way because you have to remember all of the things yourself, instead of the computer doing it for you.

when i was a kid, 20years ago, ive made my own table game similar to dnd rules, and i was printing it using heroes3 towns, crearures and spells and weapons, it was quite well made and interesting to pkay with dices
Sounds awesome, we know a lot of board gamers made their own games based on other games. For us it was a Hero Quest like game made in Lego

Crazy detailed! But do you need a table the size of a gymnasium to play it?
It takes up some table space, but actually a lot less than some other games. We have been able to play it comfortably 2 players on a extra folding table we use for recording. Also very soon another video will be published how to setup the game and this also shows the actual game footprint on table.

I've always wanted to get into a board game with 9000 pieces and a 1200 page manual on how to play it, but I never had the time.
Interesting enough, most of the big games have dome of the smallest rulebooks. An interesting set of big games is are the ones with simple rules, where more rules is added through additional components as you progress. Oathsworn is an amazing game which uses this principle.

You're pretty close, it captures the original feeling of waiting 2 hours for the other players to take their turns 😛 All jokes a side the game playes pretty fluid and takes around two hours for 2 players, not using the battlefield expansion

It was around 180$ and it was as far as we know sold world wide, it isn't available at the moment, but we guess an updated version will be available as more expansions is released.

We also still play HoMM3 though mostly single player. This game is actually in the cheaper end of "Big Box" games, at around 180$ (still a lot for a boardgame though)

I've been playing homm3 on/off for the last 25 years. Just started a scenario last week lol
HoMM and especially HoMM2 and 3, are some of the most replayable games out there, surviving the passing of time so well.
may i ask how you play if you have more cities ? ..you would need more city cards ?
Thanks for the question. The board game is a bit different in this way, as you only have access to your chosen faction and its town board. Capturing a other factions town doesn't give you access to use their town board, and the player losing their town doesn't lose access to their buildings and can still hire units.
Will this version be available for purchase or is it some showcase edition?
This version was originally available after the KS ended as part of the post campaign pledge manager. Latest it have been available as part of the new expansion crowfunding campaign on Gamefound. Wheter it will be available again at some point is hard to say, and we will just have to wait and find out.

ofcource it fits when you dont punch anything. after punching try again. its a strange insert when it comes to all the small parts..
We have punched everything out and played the game several times. The worst part was the missing guide to how everything should be stored in the compartments (especially with sleeved cards), but after reaching out we got a pretty good idea of how to pack everything without any problems.

@@DadsGamingDK ye its my friends game but we had some trouble trying to fit all the punch stuff and not blend it allThe plastic chips also made it hard. Im no fan of the big all in one plastic inserts. Hard to get stuff out without either picking it one by one or tipping it all att once.

When the KS campaign got its pledge manager launched, Archon Studio came out with an offer of either the individual boxes or one big box. Also the offered plan miniatures or pre-shaded miniatures.

We really loved the autographed picture, nice to have something a bit more unique as we have very little wall space to hang it on (Allowed to by wives) but yeah would have been nice with a plain version of the picture in addition
How many weeks does it take to play this game?
Depends on what you're thinking of. For a single scenario 2 players is around 2 hours, same goes for solo. We don't have the experience for 3-4 player games, so can't give a valid time for that. If you're thinking of the whole campaign/campaigns it's quite hard to say. You have 5 mission books, with a total of 21 campaign missions, so given the average time we have experience until now, you're probably looking at around 42-50 hors of campaign.

I do not understand why there is no remake for this game. Everything can be as before with minor upgrades (graphics, artifacts, powers, creatures, castles etc). It would be great
They tried with their HD versions, but it was not done with the needed respect to the original, but agreed a actual remake, where everything stays as is would be awesome.

I will most likely split the game up between the game I am playing and leave the rest of the components in the original box. The fact that you cannot sleeve the cards and store them in the box makes using a seperate box necessary.
There is a lot of components such as the miniatures which is not used unless you play clash or alliance. On the topic of sleeved cards, it is possible to store all the cards sleeved in the box, you just have to use sleeves of 60 microns or less. We have all ours sleeved with sleeve kings.
Do you know how much sleeve cards we have to buy?
For this box you need 661 standard size card sleeves. If you want to store all the cards back in the box sleeved, the thickness should not be more than 60 microns. We have sleeved ours with Sleeve Kings standard sleeves.

It is an amazing looking game, and the price was fair compared to the size of the game and the amount of components. But again if you don't have the time to play it, then no game is worth the price.

Unfortunately this is a special edition with all the expansions from the KS campaign (minus Stronghold). So as of right now you can only buy the core game and the different faction expansion as individual boxes. But we hope to see a revised version of this box as the next three expansions are released.
