  • Join me once again as I dive deep into yet another Iceberg. What strange details will we uncover from a beloved yet anachronistic anime series? Honestly this took me a rather long time to make and it is filled to the brim with obscure lore and theories from one of my childhood favorite franchises. I am rather shocked that it took this long to get an iceberg theory video made on Pretty Solider Sailor Moon but here we are.
    While this was a massive undertaking in of it's self I wasn't entirely left to my own devices as I found a blog that was immeasurably helpful with some of the nuance for a few topics. Visit them here:

    They are far more knowledgeable on Sailor Moon than I and it was a great learning experience especially with some of the behind the scenes information they present.

    • @azuritemoon
      @azuritemoon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Exactly! There were all these other planets with female Sailor Guardians, but for some reason Naoko decided to make it part of (manga) canon that they got decimated by the Sailor Wars. The Earth, unlike all the others, had Sailor Moon looking after it, but she was "weird" in that she was never truly meant to be a Sailor Guardian of the Moon; the moon was originally part of Earth, and her Sailor Crystal/Star Seed was the Light of Hope from the Galaxy Cauldron all along. So it kind of hearkens back to the whole "Earth is somehow still the center of the universe," even when it's literally (even in Sailor Moon) not.

      I think sailor earth was avoided because it would sound like sailor a$$ (which actually suits him, because he is an a$$)

    For the transformation sequence I thought it was instantaneous. I’ll never forget when Haruka transformed from her senshi uniform to her school uniform while walking towards her car and it took only seconds. You had that scene in first anime where Usagi transforms in the elevator she's in with Mamoru and during transformation camera comebacks to him few times to show his reaction as if this was in real time, so it's either full real time every time, it's one of those things that you can only observe if you're close enough, or it's just an old anime and we shouldn't question it.

    In the manga the Sailor Crystals are said to be the star seeds of planets, stars and asteroids with the Sailor Soldiers serving as their keepers and guardians. I would say the planet comes first by that logic. As for Chibi-Moon, she holds the Sailor Crystal of the future moon and the name is just a cute way of distinguishing her from the current Sailor Moon. And as you probably know, Princess Kakyuu is actually the Sailor Soldier of the star of the Kinmoku System, with the Starlights being her protectors and possessing the Sailor Crystals of neighboring stars. Idk why they changed it in the anime it just made it more confusing 😂
    That's just what my manga stan ass thinks tho. You can come up with any reason for the anime, as it and the manga are different stories entirely.

      In general, quite lot of the magical doohickeys that were mainly unique in the origin comic kind of went "generic" in the series to fit the scavenger hunt style of scripting those kinds of shows TOEI does.
      It makes for some weird situations later on where its hard to tell why SPECIFIC ones are more important than others.

  • @BeautyStarDiamond
    @BeautyStarDiamond 2 ปีที่แล้ว +270

    I believe that Toei didnt want sailor moon to succeed its full potential. Theres always friction between Naoko and Toei. You can infer this with these context clues.
    Financially Sailor has always underperformed compared DBZ and power rangers and they give less and less attention to Sailor Moon due to the lower sales yet its their own fault for this. They used all these female stereotypes and tried to persuade young girls in the 90s to live up to what they projected. This is still evident today in the budgets for the new movies. Toei blows millions of dollars in precure every year but when it came to eternal they threw them a low million dollar budget and promotions for the movie were minimum this is we watch repetitive animations from 90s in 2021 . They gave Naoko a hard time to rush out all these panels just to change it anyway in production . She was always in confrontation with them since she 1st started sailor moon. They said things to hurt her feelings and gave her hard critiques on her early designs but yet didnt give her a proper chance to shatter expectations. She stood up to them and retained her resilience but since she was a young woman in the 90s standing up for herself the director and producers called her 'difficult' 'stubborn' or maybe a 'bitch' . i used to be frustrated by somethings in sailor moon but as i get older and research i learn that the issues were never her fault it all comes down to men trying to tell a woman HOW TO BE A WOMAN sad. In conclusion lets hope tbe best for the franchise and support it as best we can

    • @SimpsanSimpai
      @SimpsanSimpai  2 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      She truly had to persevere within the industry and it was thanks to her efforts and the efforts of so many women mangaka before her that paved the way for some of the all time great women mangaka that we see today. A lot of people don't believe she wasn't treated fairly but look no further than PQ Angels to see the scope of how she work was treated; but that's in the past.
      Toei treats the franchise poorly these days because they aren't financially obligated to stupidly enough. They screwed Naoko over and she regained the rights to her intellectual property which pretty much means Toei doesn't care to the same extent they do with say Dragon Ball; which they can do pretty much whatever they want with. Not saying that Sailor Moon doesn't deserve new games, a new anime adaptation with an actual budget, or at the very least some more modern collector's editions. But at the end of the day it doesn't serve Toei; they forced Naoko to take the franchise back and they are still mad.

    Here are some interesting little things I'd like to say:
    1. The "Sailor Says" segment was an E/I mandate. Sure, it doesn't make it good, but it's there so that it can pass that mandate. Not even the awesome Mighty Max(what I consider to be the FIRST magical BOY cartoon, dating back to 1993 through Saturday Morning US syndication on the Bohbot Kids Network) could escape it, though at least Mighty Max actually knew how to do that ending segment well.
    2. I would honestly assume that Saban Entertainment saw the Toon Makers pilot & didn't cancel it, but instead revamped the show into Tenko And the Guardians of the Magic, which starred a real life Japanese magician Mariko Itakura, who has the stage name of Princess Tenko. Surprised she never got an anime of her own honestly.
    3. Nemesis, eh? Heard that as the European name for Konami's Gradius before as well as Nemesis the Warlock on the ZX Spectrum. Not sure how those would tie-in to how Sailor Moon interprets Nemesis, but it is interesting to think about.
    4. I would say that it takes place in real time & that during the transformation, they have temporary invincibility.
    5. Perhaps the "Planet or Soldier" thing is this crazy mish-mash of both ways.
    6. "Save Our Sailors" was the once responsible for the Prince Uranus theory that everybody complained about.
    7. "The stereotypes would've been worse if left a gay man" TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
    8. "No Boys Allowed" Film Roman: Haha Mighty Max go brrrr(ok, he just has a hat that can be used to activate portals, but that's still a bit magical enough for him to be considered a magical boy... right? Right? Of course nobody would believe me. That show has never gotten an official DVD release & likely never will).
    9. Reminds me of the whole thing with the Akazukin ChaCha anime(which is basically if you were to combine this anime with Mighty Max) where they made ChaCha transform a Sailor Moon inspired alter-ego called Magical Princess for the first 2 seasons to capitalize on Sailor Moon's success. She would just one-hit KO almost every baddie within those 2 seasons. Something happens to that alter-ego later on, but I won't spoil it for you.
    10. "Evangelion connections" Madoka Magica doesn't need to exist then?
    11. Hmmm... they're kind of reversed in their size. Sailor Pluto is actually bigger than Sailor Saturn, even though Saturn is bigger than Pluto(which is why Saturn is a planet while Pluto is a dwarf planet). That one was obvious to me XD.
    12. Holy crap, the multiple Chibiusa, & the 2 or 3 Pluto thing reminds me of the Name's the Same trope where a bunch of characters from unrelated media have the same name as well as Similarly Named Works, where a bunch of unrelated media share the same title. I read through a lot of stuff on those tropes. An especially crazy one is the Dennis the Menace thing where there were 2 comic books made in 1957 called Dennis the Menace, one from the US & one from the UK, neither of the creators knowing about the others' work. They even have the same premise! So yeah, multiple Chibiusas wouldn't be too surprising.
    13. I would like to imagine that Optinum Productions got the idea for "Sailor Scouts" due to girls' scouts outfits looking similar to sailor fuku.
    14. Well, Cyborg Mercury wouldn't be out of the ordinary in Mister Spiff considering the storylines in THAT video game series are so confusing & weird that you'd have to wonder if Adam Tyner was on drugs when making those games.
    15. So, that Sailor Starlight controversy? Again, Film Roman gave Mighty Max a cartoon so if Naoto were to see that, she'd probably freak out.
    16. That copyright history reminds me of Space Cats, but at least this anime has one good answer as to who is getting screwed meanwhile with Space Cats, we don't really know who's getting screwed here & it's all just wild speculation.
    17. Pharaoh 90 sounds like one of those mysterious characters from a dimension of unknowingness. Perhaps that's what it is now. Just an entity that has disappeared off the face of the solar system, never to be seen again by anything else other than a bunch of other planets & stars who just ignore it.
    18. I forgot that Gucci Gang existed for quite some time to be honest, so I guess I forgot a JoJo reference.
    19. The Black Moon Arc reminds me of the Back To The Future to be honest.
    20. The Silver Millennium sounds like it could've existed in the real world at one point, but then vanished out of peoples' memories whereas in Sailor Moon it is still a very well known thing.
    21. "No series continuation plans" Well, at least Sailor Moon ended on a note that tied just about everything important up... unlike Mighty Max which ended on a very unfortunate cliffhanger that will likely *NEVER BE RESOLVED.*

    Actually I do kinda think there is some connection between Usagi and Pluto. Mostly because of Chibi-Usa, my personal theory is Queen Selenity's husband (as he is never mentioned or seen) is Chronos who is Pluto's Father. So basically, Princess Serenity and Pluto are sisters, hence why Chibi-Usa has red eyes and not blue.

      @@alexisdowers2030 Yeah, it's a manga-only scene (and one I imagine MIGHT make it into whatever version of Crystal we get for the Stars arc), where Queen Serenity is shown visiting the Cauldron, collecting a tiny "fragment of a star" or something like that, and then returning to the Silver Millennium with it in the form of a baby Princess Serenity. The Inner Sailor Senshi are kids, so they're implied to be older than Princess Serenity at that point, but we're never told how much (obviously old enough to have coherent conversations and know etiquette, but that's not saying much), and it's possible that Princess Serenity aged rapidly, or they aged slowly as they trained.

      @@JadeiteMcSwag "Jobkoto"? Never heard that term for her before. Interesting... I'll look it up later. To answer your question, it's for the reasons I listed above. I was also the tallest in my friend group growing up, like significantly so, as a child, and, while I honestly hated it, that also established me as the "strong" one since, being the tallest in my grade, even taller than all the boys, by a wide margin,meant being able to "intimidate" most kids who tried to bully my friends just by standing there. But I was actually very appreciative and lucky that 99% of those conflicts never actually came to blows. I'm a total cream puff... Always have been. Always will be.😅 I can be strong and firm when it's needed, but I prefer not to fight. Even after becoming a black belt in tae kwon do as an adult... I'm only a 2nd dan, and one thing I've learned for sure is that while I can defend myself well enough to suite my needs, I'm simply just not mentally or emotionally built for fighting much.
      I'd been called a "Tom Boy" throughout my entire childhood, because I never liked "dressing girly" and liked action figures as much as dolls, and liked playing video games like Tekken and Street Fighter with the boys in my friend group (though I preferred the adventure and storied games, and platformers, like Sonic, Spyro, and Final Fantasy) and dislike, even to this day, the color pink... *BUT* I like "traditionally girly" things too, like baking, I enjoy cleaning, and I like crocheting and such... My own mother called me a "walking paradox" because of how we'd butt heads over the "girly" things I rejected, but I'd fully embrace "being girly" in other aspects... As a kid in the 90's, seeing a character like Makoto being a similar kind of "walking paradox", especially in her introduction and throughout the first season... I felt... normal...

    To be clear, any problem that may exist between Ikuhara and Naoko would be only between the two, and not related to Toei as a company. Ikuhara was, like all directors, a contractor or at best employee of Toei who could (and was) replaced when they decided that it was convenient for them, and to give you an idea of how much the high-ups at Toei liked his style (and how much he liked the high-ups at Toei), he never worked in any Toei series after Sailor Moon. Hell, even other directors from Toei don't seem to have a lot of crossover with him, differently from someone like Yamauchi who is always being asked to do small-time work by his old peers.
    Also, authorizing only one arc for an anime or manga was (and is) the norm of the industry. These companies work on quick fan feedback, and will rapidly alter or cancel series that are underperforming. Sailor Moon overperformed massively (when it ended the magazine's circulation immediately fell like a rock), so it was repeatedly extended, same as any other manga.
    As for Takeuchi getting screwed, I think it's a mixed bag. Like any other manga author, she was heavily overworked and like any author, she was pressured to change her story by her editor (which is NBD and how the industry always works, but may be bad if the editor is incompetent or over his head), but she managed to finish her work, got tremendously rich with its profits (thanks to the ultra-favorable copyright standards in manga) then basically gave a huge middle finger to the industry and left to do burnouts in her Porsche (or her Ferrari, that she also bought with Sailor Moon money).
    These days she can live a well-deserved life of luxury, draw something or other every few years (somehow she got even better with time, her talent for illustration is fantastic), and make sure her hard work is respected in ways no American comic artist could ever dream of doing: blocking anime adaptations, supervising merch, etc. All things considered, she's doing great.

    In the last episode of Sailor Stars the three starlights transform in front of them and it was instantaneous.
    ...btw between the scouts and their planets it's kinda... both? We see in the manga when Usagi tells Mamoru she was pregnant she says "A star was born". So technically both come first. When a star is created, it's guardian is in the process of being born.

    One thing that bugged me a lot about the Starlight arc in the anime was how they seemed to be shipping Maker/Mercury and Healer/Venus, but only before it was revealed that they were actually women. Like they were trying to masquerade it as a possible straight ship, and somehow avoid the lesbian overtones. That and I hated how Seiya kept pursuing Usagi while knowing damn well she was already in a relationship!

      Imo while I'm neutral on the whole subject, aka not really supporting any SM ships, something (probably unintentionally) intriguing about the anime's Venus/Healer ship is that Yaten has white hair... just like Venus' past lovers Ace and Kunzite. Guess Mina really has a thing for white haired fellows. Her guardian cat Artemis is also white haired to boot.

    I've always wanted a large-scale poll in the U.S./North America determining who our favorite Sailor Senshi is. In Japan, the Animage magazine ran character popularity polls and Sailor Mercury was by far the most popular Senshi, but I have a feeling the results would be different if you were to ask an American audience. If I had to take a guess, I would say Sailor Jupiter is probably the most popular in North America because of her "feminine tomboy" persona. I've always gone back and forth between Jupiter and Venus being my favorite: Venus, Jupiter and Moon are also the only three Senshi I've bought figures of!

    I think I might have an explanation for the black moon arc.
    Uranus and Neptune guard the solar system for outer system threats.
    Nemesis (the dwarf planet Eris after Charon could also work thematically if we wanted to make it accurate to our astronomy) is a part of our solar system albeit in the oort cloud.
    Therefore the black moon is an inner senshi and time gate affair.
    Queen Serenity the 1st was explicit in her orders to the senshi prior to her death. (I honestly don't understand why she didn't choose to reincarnate with Usagi but since she had Usagi without clear paternity, I speculate she probably wished upon the silver crystal for a daughter and only had enough energy to maintain her form for 1 more wish)

    I think the thing about Saturn might have been a mixup. Saturn is the roman version of Cronus the titan, who is also spelled Kronos. He wad a titan associated with agriculture (and often depicted with a scythe or sickle) and is Zeus/Jupiter's father. Brxusse of the names being confusingly similar the names are, Chronos nebulously either the same or not the same being, as less of a god amd more the personification of time. The orphic tradition doesn't even associate him with Zeus. The Greeks were kinaa ambiguous about this kinda thing with gods and their domains sometimes. The reason i can think of Pluto maybe being associated with time is that death is the result of ever-marching time. Death and Time are simply that: intrinsically linked. I think it's possible Takeuchi just made some interesting choices that made sense to her at the time but confused everyone else.

    Sailor Moon is not remotely the first magical girl show where integral aspects of it were built on merchandising. Since Japanese TV never had a ban against advertisements directed purely at kids, much of their 60s, 70s and 80s children's television was done to market a brand or had massive tie-ins. Specifically for Sailor Moon, the magical girl genre was always seen as a huge marketing opportunity and shows like Minky Momo and Creamy Mami in the early 80s were very merchandise-driven. And since those shows directly influenced the creation of Sailor Moon... yeah, it's no surprise. It was always about the plastic wands, lunchboxes and other stuff.

    I feel like I'm one of the handful of people who doesn't dislike Parrallel Sailor Moon. I completely think its valid if a lot of people dislike the oneshot as "Sailor moon's Swansong" or the "It as all a dream" ending but there were several elements I liked about it conceptually. First, and this is subjective and personal, I like that Chibiusa had a sister in this dimmension. I grew up with the OG anime eng dub and Chibiusa seemed so lonely I had wondered if maybe if she had a sibling there wouldn't have been a Wicked/black Lady scenario? I ALSO had several close in age siblings and I can never imagine having grown up without them, and when I write a story I have a habit of not writing only children.
    ALSO ALSO I think it would be funny to have this OTHER AU daughter of Usagi crossover into the main universe for a movie or storyline.
    Like... Usagi does her thing and stops team Metalia/Beryl, Then IMMEDIATELY has her kid from the future dropped into her lap, then gets rid of the kid only to IMMEDIATELY get her dropped back in her lap, then finally gets rid of the kid AGAIN only to have ChibiChibi dropped into her lap, At this point the number one thing moving the plot is Usagi getting to take care of hypothetical children.

      Personally, I love Parallel Moon cause I like the way the Earth isn't the Crystal Tokyo future where the Sailor Guardians seem to just be 24/7 in their Sailor Guardian form and Usagi and Mamoru are sovereigns of the planet. It makes the fact that we spend so much time with them being average humans living life and going to school and studying to have careers seem like a moot point when they're not going to actually have normal lives. It's why I like the PGSM ending so much when we have the timeskip where the girls are growing up and taking on careers and Usagi and Mamoru seem like they'll have a fun life as newlyweds (the fact that they even implied in the beginning that she found out she's pregnant shortly before the wedding was a nice nod to the ending of the manga).
      That and Chibiusa is in personality a lot like Mamoru being predominantly introspective, introverted, and serious. Kousagi seems 100% like Usagi with her boisterous from the get-go personality. It's just cute. I do wish her cat had a name though.

    • @KichiMiangra
      @KichiMiangra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Nightman221k I have to agree with you. Although Crystal Tokyo is a cool idea for a story arc I kind of hate it to an extent because it locks the characters into this inevitable future and also makes some of the character's choices feel like a waste of time. For example: At the beginning of the Starts arc Mamoru is intending to go to Harvard in the USA for a year to "Fulfill his dream". If I recall his dream was to be a doctor but we all kinda know he's not going to become one because.... He's going to go be king of earth in crystal tokyo? So it feels like he's wasting his time going to school to be a doctor? If his motive was something more like "I'm going to school for politics because I am supportive of you but also feel like there's not much I can do for you for the future ahead so if I'm going to be riding your coat-tails to be king of earth I figured I might as well go to a prestigeous college and learn diplomacy and stuff so I can be more useful to you and the future we have ahead of us..."
      Also on/off topic... for me Sailor Moon sorta narratively ended after the R arc. S, Super S and Stars are nice continuations but R felt like it fit in the story from the first arc. To me Arc 1 was about being the reincarnation of the players in a tragedy now doomed to repeat their past lives fate, only to deny that fate and make a happily ever after for themselves. Then the second arc is the fallout of that happily ever after needing to be protected or being hinted at some potential mistakes that future holds to create a DIFFERENT happily ever after that doesn't include the faults of the future you just saved. (Thus why Chibiusa appears right after the defeat of Beryl because that is the EARLIEST she could go back with her future actually happening.) S is about grabbing up the missing senshi, Super S is the Chibiusa show, and Stars is the big finale. So I like to think that the actions the Sailor Moon we watch takes result in a completely different future than what was set forward in Crystal Tokyo and that Parallel Sailor Moon is one of those potential alternate futures. No crystal Tokyo, No making everyone immortal, no 900 y/o non aging Chibiusa and the problems that came with it, no Wicked Lady scenario, no banishing "The bad people" to a cancer planet with a black crystal to later create a terrorist group out to end your regime as queen of the world and manipulate your child into evilness, Hopefully no Sailor Cosmos's "Everyone I love is dead and I am fighting an unending war" sad end for Sailor Moon.
      Just... I had my kid, and my husband became a doctor and I didn't become queen of the earth and had time to have another kid, and my first kid has friends like Hotaru and a little Sister to grow up with so she's not lonely or eternally 5 years old or bullied for not aging, and no terrorists are out to get me or my kid, just a normal life... But maybe, just maybe.... there's still a need for Sailor Moon in this world... it's just more of a passing of the torch this time.
      Sorry for long response, you just reminded me how much I like the crystal Tokyo arc but how much I dislike having that as THE definitive locked in place future for our characters.

    • @KremBotop
      @KremBotop 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The sole fact that the girls were able to have somewhat fulfilling normal lives, with some even following up their proposed teenage goals, and form families is alone why I liked Parallel SM. Lazy (?) name and design recycling of their daughters aside, it's my perfect endgame for them.
      One of my biggest issues with the series, and Takeuchi's vision in particular, is how the Crystal Tokio thing (which was introduced that quickly in the second arc) basically renders moot the whole "reincarnated in the present day" concept and technically reestablishes what might've possibly happened if nobody attacked the Moon Kingdom. But especially that the girls might as well not have any normal civilian lives or personal goals if they're eventually expected to be Sailors 24/7 to protect a princess turned queen... that should now be powerful and confident enough to finally defeat any evil on her own thanks to her Sailor Moon powers that she didn't have before iirc; and that she eventually eliminated the main source of evil in her universe to begin with. That alone wouldn't require a full team of bodyguards anymore, as the absence of Chaos would likely prevent the Black Moon crisis to happen. And that supposed Sailor Cosmos "everyone I love is gone and now I'm endlessly fighting alone" setup would basically condemn them. The other senshi are given way too much burden and pressure with prioritizing their duties, and considering Usa's constant desire for her and her friends to have normal / peaceful lives and to follow their dreams (at least in the anime, otherwise I recall her wondering if they'd have better lives if she wasn't there), that it just doesn't feel right.
      A fix I thought that would remedy this and further connect Parallel with the main story, turning it into a happy epilogue, is that in her wedding, Usa thanks the girls for always protecting and caring about her and making her happy in both their past and present lives. But now that peace has finally arrived with Chaos' defeat, she thinks that the world needs some time in peace and normality before any plans to make Crystal Tokio could fully materialize. But especially that the girls have now fulfilled their duties for the moment. So as gratitude for their sacrifices, she takes their senshi powers away and gives them full freedom to retake their normal lives and follow the goals they wanted before reawakening their senshi identities. Though those powers could eventually be inherited to their descendants just in case, hence why their daughters can still transform. Heck, maybe Mamo's guards might've also been revived with Usa's help (she successfully allowed for that to happen in the PC Engine visual novel btw), thus they could reunite with their respective senshi pairings, thus they become their mentioned husbands in Parallel. Cue that oneshot with little to no changes and it's set for a more satisfying ending imo. Crystal Tokio might happen eventually, but for the time being everyone is happy and fulfilled with their normal lives.

    Rewatching this awesome video as I've been recently marathoning most of the original Sailor Moon show feels so great. Will get to watch Crystal for the first time later on, even though I already watched Eternal when it first dropped on Netflix. Didn't want to miss it on first release. Anyway, keep up the good work! Btw, have you seen those alleged pitch documents with some original concept art, which have surfaced last year, that heavily implied a planned Sailor V anime possibly being in production pre-SM? As another Minako / Sailor Venus enjoyer, I'm also hoping that her origin story finally gets adapted after the Cosmos movie gets released next year. Netflix helped out with Eternal's release in some ways so that brings a little bit of optimism in that department. Beyond wanting to see more of my favorite Senshi, this whole franchise became a thing and remains relevant for 3 decades thanks to Mina starting it all. The OG blonde Sailor Guardian truly deserves the spotlight.
    Also, all those stories of the US dub changes / adaptations (you've seen the Ray Mona documentaries right?) sound quite fascinating since here in LATAM, our Latin Spanish dub of Sailor Moon is mostly uncut and very faithful to the original Japanese version, barring the gender change of Ziocite and especially the usage of the DiC dub's names of characters introduced in the first 2 seasons. That practice was eventually dropped halfway through R, and all new characters introduced afterwards kept their original names. But "Serena", "Darien", "Lita", etc still stuck around long enough in our mindsets that those localized names became our standard ones for years. And those names were almost kept in Crystal's dub, but were eventually reversed to the original ones partway through recording (I think because of a mandate from the distributors iirc). Though, at least in Eternal, Minako is still called Mina at times since it's basically a diminutive name. And unlike the JP version, where only Sailor Moon kept her original voice iirc, we also kept the classic LATAM VAs of Mercury, Mars, Venus, Chibi Moon, Artemis, Tuxedo Mask (though it was his second 90s voice who first came during R) and Neptune. With how iconic that Mexican cast is, 4 of the 5 inners keeping their original voices is a pretty big deal (and the one replacement is because Jupiter's VA passed away many years ago), even though Sailor Moon and Mars both sound a bit older for obvious VA aging reasons. At least Venus fortunately sounds exactly the same as in the 90s. All of that makes me quite hyped to eventually check out Crystal and see how much it changes from the 90s adaptation. And it's on Netflix nowadays, making it much easier to access atm. In LATAM we even got the 3 OG movies and the 3rd classic season (S) available to watch there too! So yeah, I'm glad to have shared some info on the series' western history outside of the US.

      I whole heatedly believe that the series is on the brink of a sort of revival just how big it will be remains to be seen since Crystal was just the start.
      I haven't seen anything hinting at a Sailor V anime but I would be curious if it could even compete within the current industry. I think the story is fantastic but it's still a product of it's time and I think the series needs to go in a new direction to reinvigorate the fanbase.

    • @KremBotop
      @KremBotop ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimpsanSimpai Sure, the series is arguably bigger than ever despite being mostly dormant for most of the 2000s outside of Japan (it was supposedly taken off from international licensing during those years right? It could've been a topic for the iceberg) and I've seen it getting a lot more appreciation in recent times so a full-on revival post-Crystal sounds more plausible than ever before. I guess it's now a matter of time, if the main parties involved agree on something and/or if the latest content is successful enough. SM getting a full animated reboot to begin with is already a testament of its endurance.
      Btw, what I mentioned about that proposed SV anime in the early 90s came from some surprise finds by an user called ayumikapimofu, which caused some waves in our regional community last year. Google that name for the full context, there are a few articles and forum posts talking about that find which first came via a Yahoo Auctions page. Its authenticity has ofc been debated, but I think it's legit (and something that was not even intended to be seen by the general public). I think there was also an early pitch document for the proper original SM anime shared at that time too. And something being a product of its time isn't that much of an issue imo since a handful of classic anime / manga properties from decades ago have gotten new material in recent years (like the new Urusei Yatsura remake whose OG anime originally came out in the early 80s). And while I don't think a SV adaptation could be a tentpole release, its close association with SM alone can still make it end up being something like a streaming original spin-off anime movie or miniseries given its short length. And the fans have been asking for a SV anime to happen in some capacity for many years now. If anything, I think it can perfectly serve as a bridge between the current SM adaptation and a possible new series altogether. Like one more look at familiar grounds before potentially moving forward with something completely new, like the Chibiusa team story you proposed at the end of this iceberg video.

So Seiya is firmly male and Usagi has conflicted feelings for him, but not for Fighter, the woman.
