Ok, I have to admit I messed around with mine for about an hour trying to get the brushes held out while I got it on. now after watching this great video I'm going to go out and probably do it in 2 minutes thank you buddy you saved my butt. Update, tried it the way you taught with the gather within less than 2 minutes thank you
I could use a link for the brushes… this video helped a lot 🤙🤙
This helped me repair my old club car and saved me several dollars. Excellent video and advice !
Great to hear!
I didn't even listen and I could tell this guy is on his game. 👍🏻
Please I need more videos of this starter generator repairs, ( beautiful work )
I think you flew through the most important part of this video, ... the wiring connections. My wires were changes and I cannot use the color guides so I was looking to you for a step by step to follow.
Thank you for the lesson I really am not a mechanic but with your help I look like a professional my wife was so proud of me
Great job! Glad it helped!
Very well and clearly presented.
Great video..Thank you! Just put my cart away for the winter and planned on rebuilding my starter generator.
You can do it!
One of the best videos I've found. Wish you lived nearby. This is really detailed explanation for those us trying to save a buck.
Glad it was helpful!
Well done! You covered all the mysterious parts....except re-installing the starter generator into the golf cart!
Thanks
Here is the diagnose... uninstall and install for you.

@@helpinguonline Thank you.
Thank you for the video! You explained everything well and I appreciate that you took the time to create it.
Glad it was helpful!
Great help! Very informative! Thanks 😁👍
Glad it was helpful!
Man I love TH-cam thank you for this video you just save me $65! I can rebuild it myself. I actually took mine apart and cleaned it and sure enough it started working, but it’s that simple to change the brushes. I’m gonna order them and change them!
Glad I could help
Thank you. Your video got my buggy going.
Great to hear!
Great video, very informative, loved the ending with the big YAHOOO!
Glad you enjoyed it!...always a good feeling when things get fixed
Thank you I had the same problem save me hundreds of dollars
Thank you!!!😊🤩
great explanation. every step was well explaned
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, but when bench testing I suggest connecting the the positive lead (jumper cable) first, and then touching the negative lead to the metal housing of the starter-generator. Otherwise you risk damaging the threads and nut at that terminal cauaused by the electrical arcing that occurs when you momentarily touch the positive lead to the terminal.
Love watching your video it's very informative. Can you show or tell me how to change the the bolt that holds the lugged wire onto the starter generator ????
Hi thanks for the video! My starter is working like a champ, however the cart keeps killing batteries. Can you describe how to isolate that problem. 2010 txt 6 seater with Kawasaki FJ400G
When you connected your negative ground did you connect that to A1?
Thank you for making this video. I’m getting ready to tear into my Harley Davidson Columbia Par Car golf cart’s generator. I was nervous before, now I have a better understanding on how it works! Thanks again.
You can do it!
If it was shorting after changing with new brushes would the bench test still work?
Brush model ! Thanks you
You're welcome
If the motor is running what should voltage be on r/g wires be directly on starter thanks
Our brushes are within the where limits but when the starter alternator gets hot it does not turn over would that be more of an Armature problem?, has new starter relay Etc thank you
How do you know if it’s actually putting out power and charging. I put a test light to the red and green wires coming out of it and it didn’t seem to be producing any power?
I am rebuilding a cart from the ground up in a custom way. One problem I can not find an answer to is after the solenoid closes and the motor starting running, does the solenoid open back up or remain closed? I can't seem to find a straight answer on this
Good tutorial, but did I miss the part as to how you reset the brushes after cap went on? Also looking for a tutorial as to just how these things go from starter to generator?
Hi there! I have a question how many functions has this motor? Sorry for my bad write
Awesome video. Where did you buy the parts?
What size is the bolt that you adjust
How did you reseat the brushes. I didnt see where u did that. Do you just push on them until the soring gets behind them
They will seat themselves with a little use
rebuilt 2 of these but they are not charging battery, what am i doing wrong??
Where do you order the brushes? Link? Name?
Never saw you release the brushes after assembly
bout whiped my ass but got it. thanks for making this video
Do you have any idea why it wouldn’t be moving forward it move back but that’s it
Sounds like you do not have it wired up properly
How many volts should I be getting from my generator? My cart died on me last time so I charged the battery and it shows around 12.8 volts. When I start the cart and run it at higher rpms it shows a bit over 15 volts. Does that mean the generator is good?
Your generator should put out around 15 volts... so it sounds like you are good
@@helpinguonline thanks
Model brush ?
I’m struggling to get my golf cart to work I watched this video and changed the bushes but when I do the bench test my starter generator is running in slow motion any ideas why this it ??
Make sure you you are hooking up the positive to the positive and the negative to the negative when you bench test it. Make sure you have a good strong battery. And if not those two things check your armature
So I drove my golf cart and it didn’t charge the battery while in use, so when I stopped it wouldn’t turn back over. Could this be the issue on why it’s not charging the battery? I have gas Yamaha G2.
if your battery is not charging I would start by looking at your generator and wiring since they are the source of your battery charging. start simple by looking for frayed wires, bad connections, corrosion, etc
@@helpinguonline ok thank you
Mine is not very old but it won't turn over all the time . And the wires get hot. Same problem possibly?
If you have a volt meter you could check and see if you are getting 12 volts to the starter. If you are and your starter is grounded properly then most likely your starter/generator is the problem.
Also, as you saw me do in the video... if you tap on your starter (where the brushes are) and it turns over you most likely need to do as I showed in this video.
Let us know how it turns out and what you find.
what is mine doesn't move at all?
Can't find your video showing you removing and installing starter from the cart. I'm not 100% sure how the wires go on. I have yamaha g9
th-cam.com/video/ZmS2Cyogk2Q/w-d-xo.html
new starter brushes wore out in 3 months, any idea why?
Probably something making your brushes work all the time… Could be starter hung up or the regulator for the generator is making it charge all the time. OK
Also check and make sure your batteries good if your batteries bad that Cause your problem
Still does not fire. Help me please
How long should new brushes last once installed? 🤔
approximately 2000 hours
My battery has stopped charging on my G2 petrol buggy, I wonder if my starter is not working properly? Maybe some new brushes are the answer?? A new starter is over $500 to replace! This video might be the answer??
You can test your generator voltage output easily with a cheap multi meter. that will tell you if your generator is the problem or your voltage regulator or possibly you have a frayed wire or disconnected or poor wire connection.
There are videos online that will show you how to run the tests.
Just type in something like:
How do I test the voltage output on a generator starter for a golf cart.
Let us know what you find out.
@@helpinguonline Thank you, very helpful!
What year an model was that ..its just like mine
If I remember correctly it was around a 1990 model G2
Gas with a 4 cycle engine
@@helpinguonline thanks
Where did you order the brushes from?
ebay from seller mcgworld_1 for just under $9. No relationship with that seller just ordered from them because of price and delivery speed. They have worked well.
Also available on Amazon. Prime is about a dollar more. Just search "golf cart starter brushes", they'll come right up.
So, you could have just changed the brushes without removing the back
It's two bolts to remove the back. It makes it easier to replace them.
