Also, if you decide to swap carbs, valve springs and stronger push rods an updated video including some specs on those items and any other mods would be cool too. Once again outstanding video. Thank you glad you enjoyed the video. We appreciate the watch and comment! Defiantly will get a video up on the wiring and stater generator option with install.
30 year European mechanic / shop owner here, now long retired. Well done! This was an informative video, so many aren’t. Im about to start a cart project with one of my grandsons. In our conversations we have discussed gear boxes for go karts. something like these. ( link at the bottom) However we have not done one yet to fully tell you how much work it entails. Just found the channel. This video gives me hope. I have a 1997 yamaha G14 gas cart, I love it because it gets me down the road to the store and pharmacy but it seems to struggle a ;little on the road hills between. This looks like an affordable solution and will let me get many more years use out of my cart. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos . Hope you get a yamaha in soon.
We put a 350 warrior engine in a 1950something Harley Davidson 3 wheel golf cart,, talk about a hand full,, found out quick those tires needed balanced,, because at about 45mph it shook bad,, after replacing with some Hoosier racing tires n getting balanced,, it topped out about 62mph

For the choke lever or anything else you need you can email me and i will link you to what all you will need. bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com
I put a 459 in my 93 carryall 2. Along with some 23"diameter tires. Blucksucker can't do nuttin but Ruuun now.❗ It's very important to plumb the intake system to a clean air intake snorkel. Otherwise the engine is prone to sucking up vast quantities of dust if you are off roading the machine 🤪👍
What size belt did you use and what clutchs did you use I was going to build the 4:20 swap but then I ran across this video and decided to do the 459 swap I have bought 780 clutches just curious on what causes you use in the belt size graet video fyi.
Club car DS with a predator 459 swap question. When the forward/reverse switch changes polarity from forward to reverse using the original starter/generator will the 459’s pressurized oil system prevent the engine from properly running in reverse? If it will run in reverse will the engine be properly lubricated? Thanks
The starter/generator should not change direction when switching from forward to reverse. Only thing that should be happening is the transaxle shifting forward to reverse or reverse to forward. Engine should always run in the direction it is intended to run. Which in the 459’s case is counterclockwise. You can change direction of rotation on the starter/generator clockwise or counterclockwise.
Thanks for the video guys. I have a battery powered cart and I will be using your video as a guide. I might have to cut in to where the electric motor meets the gears for the rear, not sure yet. other than that, your vid makes this fun project even more fun. The hoarding clip, lol.🏁
I am wanting to do something like this to use as a side by side on my farm. Looks like Club Car is what I need, Any particular year or model? I have a rear end out of a Club Car with forward neutral reverse but I have no idea what year or model it is out of. Also a front end that I assume came off the same cart. Does the EZ Go's have a rear end with forward and reverse? Reverse is a must so no electric car conversions.
Year is very important when it come to club cars. You will need a 1996 or older cart to correctly perform this swap when using a 420/459cc engine. The reason being is 1997-2014 club car used Kawasaki engines that rotate clockwise so the transaxle will spin in the wrong direction, making reverse forward and forward reverse. The gearing for reverse is not the same as forward gear. This makes the cart only go about 12-14 mph when going forward and 20-25 mph in reverse. Again note this is only for club cars 1997-2014. When it comes to ezgo you can pretty much use any year 1994-2008. We will have a video coming out soon with installation on a ezgo cart. Thank you for the watch!
Your video convinced me to go with the 459 predator, bought it Thursday. Wasn't planning on buying the kit, just a 780 clutch, mounting plate and fabricate what ever else I'll need but have another question. The 89 club car used a 1 inch wide drive belt. The 780 drive clutch uses 1 3/16 wide belt. I have not been able to find a 780 for a 1 inch belt. My secondary clutch looks good and I don't want to replace it if I don't have to. Are you using a 1 inch belt? If so where can I find that clutch? Thanks.
Hi, I have a kart 1973 Harley Davidson with 250 cc original but the engine is no more good and no clutch for that. For the reverse the engine turn reverse there is a handle on the floor between seat, to change it what would happen if I install a snowmobile engine and have a reverse. I have to push on the trottle to turn on the motor after it forwards.
Depends on what motor you are installing. Old engines were able to run forward and backwards due to ignition and port timing being nearly symmetrical around TDC. This allowed a engine to run clockwise or counterclockwise. The old carts did not have a gearbox. They used the starter generator and switch polarity to make the engine run in reverse. Giving you a reverse without using a gear box. I have read that newer snowmobile engines us the same method today to get reverse.
We just got done with a yamaha install. When installing the motor the head of the engine will go towards the rear end. Making the clutch on the same a side. Install was fairly simple depending on what year yamaha cart you have.
Hi guys, very good video on the swap. Just wondering it was like $900 for the engine mount kit. If Im looking at that right? I know the motor is 500. Thanks.
29:22 - 29:43 a Great alignment Technic, what would be TRICK is to have a band produced with the exact width of the base of each pulley where there could be NO variation between the two pulleys
If you are using the starter from the engine instead of the gen/starter, how do you get the starter to shut off once the engine starts using the gas pedal? Thanks
Just wondering if you guys did any kind of break in on the 459? I have read everything for just put in and go to run 10 minutes change oil and run 1:30 at idle then 1:30 at half, change oil…
Yes we do the break in on the engine bench before we install in the cart. It's good to change the oil a few times on new engines to get all the small metal shavings of a new engine out.
Where are you guys located? I have a cart with a predator 420 and won’t go past 12 miles an hour. Would be nice if you guys give me some idea on how to correct this is there a way I can send you a video or pictures of the set up? I did not build it out. I bought it this way.
I have an 87 DS that was electric. The shaft from diff comes out facing right or passenger side, the 459 drive shaft also comes out the right side i see. Will i need to do a jackshaft to convertor since it was an elec diff???
Engine will charge 3 amps when running. We were not running many accessories this should work fine for us. There is a bracket to keep the original starter generator. I would recommend this if you plan to run accessories.
Great video! you guys make it look super easy, but to be safe im still gonna bring mine to you. I have an old EZ Go that I have wanted to do this to for some time now.
Depends you want a full hot rod or a all around good motor. The 670cc is the full hotrod to me. The 459 suits the all around golf cart user with plenty of power.
DON'T like having to remove all that stuff from a NEW engine, WHY wasn't the conversion done as a bolt in swap?? BUT 12:19 is where you can connect your propane conversion hose
After watching all his work, and modification. Think I would've rebuilt; valve job and new rings for the old Kawasaki. Wondering, was HF engine dimensions so far off? What was total cost if everything?😊
I thought you were doing a conversion that’s just an engine swap boring but hey, you got the video👍 wrap your head around this polar-kart it’s the molding and melting of a Polaris 250 two-stroke with it easy go golf cart it does about 65 has 10 inches of ground clearance and all the wheel travel of a sport bike
I am planning a swap with the 459, is the 459 you installed a hemi? I see vegas carts says not to use them but i see many people using them with a vegas kit on other channels.
Just picked up a 1980 Club Car (gas) with no engine, plan on using 420 predator and comet clutch, did similar swap on Yamaha G3 a couple of years ago with no reverse, works great. The pullies on the Yamaha are on the drivers side, on the Club Car they are on passengers side. My question is about engine rotation, looks like yours runs counter clockwise. I am guessing it makes no difference on the Club Car as it has a forward and reverse but is the gear ratio the same. In other words it will run in reverse just as fast as it does going forward?
The 1984-91 club car ds should of had a Kawasaki kf82 engine from factory. That engine was a counterclockwise rotating engine. Which will have the correct rear end to go forward and reverse with a new motor. Forward would stay forward and Reverse will be reverse. Should be the same set up as the cart in this video. Around 1996-97 club car changed the rotation of the engine to a clockwise engine. These engines stayed in the carts until around 2014. If you have a cart that is 96-2014 the harbor freight engine runs backwards which would turn you reverse into forward and forward into reverse. Reverse is a lower gear and top speed in those year carts are about 12-15 mph.
I’ve heard there’s an oil pickup that won’t work in reverse as well as in forward. Is there any truth to this? I have a 99 club car. Picked up a 420 for a swap.
We did not take it off. But there is a way you can bypass it. We will have that video coming out shortly. If you email me at bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com i can send you pics of how to bypass.
Hey i put the same thing in my ezgo marathon 93 wit the 459 kit its all in starts up but i cant get the engine to idle i thinks its the carb but not aure what to so. Help please
At the time of the video they didn’t make a clutch with a secondary pully for the start/generator. Now you can get that clutch and pulley option to easily put the starter/generator on. We did do a pedal start on a Ezgo in the past have to wire the coil to the micro switch in the pedal to throw ground for the engine to cut spark and shut the motor down. So this can be done. However it’s a lot easier to wire the switch to the dash and have it idle. The engine is not that loud when idling.
old engine was locked up. It was not worth rebuilding with cost of parts. The 459 complete engine was the same cost as the crank for the old engine if you can find one. This was our best option cost wise for this cart and budget we had.
takes some modification but you can get a starter generator on there if you would like. They have electric start and that is how this one was set up. Pull cord for backup if needed.
You got me on the firet guilt trip! So im not a total a$$h@le! But youre right; thats a lot of great information for free you guys gave. Take them to an abandoned street and do a sideby side shoot out! 😂 or try those cheap amazon diesel motors and see if itll work for a farm. Whatever you guys do or update ill be watching. Thanks for taking the time to do all this work and document it.
We did remind a few times in the video 😃. We appreciate the watch and subscribe. Every little bit helps us continue to provide content. We do have some video testing out in the wild 420 vs the 459. Diesel motor could come in the future. But the 459 is pretty impressive so far. Definitely be workable on a farm.

The reason being is 1997-2014 club car used Kawasaki engines that rotate clockwise so the transaxle will spin in the wrong direction, making reverse forward and forward reverse.
Awesome idea! Would love to see some videos of it when you are done.
What was the paint color or code
How do we connect you guys if i wantes to do a swap
where can we hind the parts you used?
send me a email with what you need. bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com
where do I get the bracket for header pipe/throttle cable?
send me a email. bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com we can get them to you.
how many denaro for the kit and engine to do this swap?
roughly $1400
I am planning a swap with the 459, is the 459 you installed a hemi? I see vegas carts says not to use them but i see many people using them with a vegas kit on other channels.
It is not a hemi. We have installed the 420 hemi in carts and have had sucess.
how did you do to convert this car to a gasly car
What year is that cart?? I have a 91 Club Car and was wondering about shaft rotation
You should have a counterclockwise rotation.
@@CartPerformance I keep reading that its counterclockwise engine till 97.
My Predator 420 will work fine in my 91 club car??
@@jimelk77 That is correct. I'm sorry i edited my post. I did that twice yesterday.....
@@CartPerformance will the stock clutch fit on my predator engine?
I wish you were closer to Indiana. I’d pay you to put one in my Carryall.
We are not that far away only a few hours.
Whats wrong with the old motor.
Blown up and not worth the cost of a rebuild. It's a parts motor for us now.
Ever swapped an electric Taylor Dunn utility cart to Predator gas?
We have not. I am sure it's doable with some fabrication work.
Thanks, I am pretty sure this one had the
kawasaki engine, I will try to run the serial number to make sure.@@CartPerformance
Mine is an 89, thanks.@@CartPerformance
I’ve heard there’s an oil pickup that won’t work in reverse as well as in forward. Is there any truth to this? I have a 99 club car. Picked up a 420 for a swap.
Maybe I missed it did you take the governor off? Great video
We did not take it off. But there is a way you can bypass it. We will have that video coming out shortly. If you email me at bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com i can send you pics of how to bypass.
What clutch are you usuing on this beast
We are using the clutch that comes in the vegas carts kit.
Hey i put the same thing in my ezgo marathon 93 wit the 459 kit its all in starts up but i cant get the engine to idle i thinks its the carb but not aure what to so. Help please

Thanks hope this works ill let u guys kno
Would the rear end be spinning in reverse and is that ok and would the stock gear box still work looking to do this in my 1988 club car
If you have a true 1988 club car this is a perfect swap. 1988 club car engines were clockwise rotation so this would not be running in reverse.
@@CartPerformance the predator 420 I bought was counter clock wise rotation and I believe the cart was to
@@DeansSmallEngines Im sorry yes the 1988 is counter clockwise. 1997-2014 club car had clockwise rotation engines.
@@CartPerformance ok thanks so much and will the original transmission F-N-R work?
Where are you out of I have ezgo with Yamaha in it needs new motor with lift kit
Chesterfield MI
You might have to install a seatbelt and roll bar too😅
For sure it needs it😊
Where the starter generator at ? Didn't show that ,damm
Need a bracket and a new clutch with a pulley for the starter belt. We just opted for key start it was the easy route.
Do you all sale theses with all the same set up?
We usually build them any way the customer wants.
@@CartPerformance where can one go online to setup the way they want and purchase?
@@BEALLC Send me a email at bmcgolfcarts@gmail.com with your contact information.
I'll hit the like button and all, but i'm not sure I'm ready for the commitment of a subscription yet.
hahaha Thanks for the watch and like. Maybe on the next one we can gain the subscription out of you!
Why couldn’t they make it auto start and stop with the gas pedal?
At the time of the video they didn’t make a clutch with a secondary pully for the start/generator. Now you can get that clutch and pulley option to easily put the starter/generator on.
We did do a pedal start on a Ezgo in the past have to wire the coil to the micro switch in the pedal to throw ground for the engine to cut spark and shut the motor down. So this can be done.
However it’s a lot easier to wire the switch to the dash and have it idle. The engine is not that loud when idling.
Build a box around the cvt so it doesn't slip as much
There no list on all the part’s used

What was wrong with old engine???
old engine was locked up. It was not worth rebuilding with cost of parts. The 459 complete engine was the same cost as the crank for the old engine if you can find one. This was our best option cost wise for this cart and budget we had.
Next do one with the 670cc :)
We have 2 videos of the 670. th-cam.com/video/U3JiGNF-vxc/w-d-xo.html
"pulse, for the fuel pump." I turned it into a drinking game, lol.
Now, let's see you do a propane conversion on that engine for a dual fuel cart.
What about the starter , generator ? Pull start all the time? I don't like that..
takes some modification but you can get a starter generator on there if you would like.
Where do you get the new throttle connector at ? Does it come with new throttle cable? Do you guys have a phone number I could call and ask some questions or a email?
What about a diesel swapped cart
have seen them done and they are sweet. Maybe one day if the right engine comes our way.
wow a 459 cc a little hemi haha .
“Save the clip…” 🤣
You got my sub at 31:59 goodentightin 😂😂😂 🇩🇪
I would take the old motor.
How About A Diesel Swap,Please!!
Would love to. Just need to find the right motor for the right price!
