- Golf Cart Cranks but Won't Start / Run. We diagnose this common problem and you won't believe how simple this fix / repair is. Along the way we will also show you how to remove, clean and reinstall the carburetor.
This is a very common issue with any combustion engine and can happen anytime. It is especially common with golf carts or other motorized equipment and vehicles that are stored during off season.
You may have already guessed what this common problem is...
Gas tanks that sit during off season will get water in the gas tank through condensation. The water is heavier than the gas and will get sucked into the carburetor... and your engine will not start.
In this video we will show you how we diagnosed this common problem and how to make the repair.

Thanks for this - great instructional video. I'm going to try this - perhaps I have more than one issue - tries to start like this goes sometimes but not others - will run in reverse very slowly - perhaps something with the forward / reverse switch. Thanks again.

where are you located? Can't find anyone to help me get my 2003 ezgo golf cart going. She cranks but won't turnover to engage .
Having problems with ezgo cart I gotta new carburetor for it and fuel pump and still loading up with gas in carburetor drain it and it just turned over then gas start pouring out valve on side carburetor

As I recall it is a G5 Yamaha with a four cycle engine

Water sits in the bottom so drain what you can from the bottom and maybe throw a can of heet gas additive in to get any remaining water out. Very common problem
05 st sport I replaced the carburetor because it was running poorly and went ahead and replaced the fuel pump and filter. I’m getting fuel to carb it busted of kinda twice. My going to replace the spark plugs, if that does do it do you have any suggestions?
Could be a number of things… Make sure you have good gas in there… Not old or with water in it… There should be an adjustment screw on the carburetor you could try that… Clean air filter… Etc. Start With the easy stuff and work your way through it is my recommendation.
A bottle of pure rubbing alcohol in the gas tank will also help clear out the water in a pinch
Have a 2001 ezgo robins engine i spray starter fluid to carb but it dont start and it want start so can you troubleshoot it for me

I have a 1990 G2 Yamaha golf cart. It pops the 15 amp fuse every time we try to start it. Any thoughts? One person thought it is the Ignitor. But the ignitor is no longer available with Yamaha. Can you help?
Sounds like you have a short somewhere… I would check all your wiring and make sure you don’t have a loose or frayed wire

I have a 2005 Yamaha G22 that I rebuilt the engine on. Dropped it back in and now it goes when I gas it but does not go very fast and won’t accelerate more the maybe 4-5 mph.. any idea what my issue could be?
Could be a number of things… Are you sure your timing marks were all lined up?
So I took off my old carburetor and bought a new one and I put the new one on but once I get it on the plastic black thing that goes infront of the carburetor doesn’t fit in the threads they are too wide any way to fix this?
I am guessing you mean the mounting holes in the carburetor are too small for the mounting bolts to go through?...
Your replacement carburetor should be an exact fit. If not, and you make it fit you may run into other issues since that is not a matching carburetor.
If the place you ordered it from said or advertised that it is a replacement for your cart then they should take it back (exchange it) with no problem.
If for some reason you can not return the carb and want to force fit it and my understanding of your issue is correct... you could drill the mounting holes on the carb bigger so the bolts will go through. But like I said you may run into other issues is the carb is not an exact replacement.
I was wondering if you could help me my golf cart it is a E-Z-Go 1988 I keep having to pull the choke every time to start it up and also to give it power sometimes what could be the cause
It could be a number of causes but I suspect you’re not getting enough fuel that’s why you’re having to pull the choke which causes more fuel and less air. Focus on causes that could be limiting the fuel to or through the carburetor
I have a cushman EZ Go. It has a Kawasaki motor. It was running fine, then quit. It has no spark at the plug. I also noticed that the hour meter is not powered while it is cranking as it was before. I don't have a lot of experience with this type of motor, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I had a blown fuse. Replaced it and my hour meter started working
I had no spark and replaced coil and that fixed the spark issue
Any suggestions for a carryall 300, starts in maintenance mode but won't start in operate mode
@@jennifereptingwilliams632 sounds like the microswitch needs adjusting. Try fiddling with the switch while starting it. The little flat, metal arms can be bent to adjust
I have the exact same issue. Engine only fires when I add starter fluid. I just installed a new gas pump and carburetor but it didn’t fix the problem. Fuel is definitely getting to the carburetor. Any ideas where to look next? Thanks in advance!
Did you make sure there is no water in the gas?… Has it been sitting for a while and could there be water in there? If there is water in there it would be at the very bottom of the tank. You could drain off some gas and try to get the water out of there if that’s the problem.
@@helpinguonline Draining the fuel tank! Looks like I replaced the pump and carburetor for no reason but they were old anyway. Cart seems to run a little rich but it’s running at least…Thank you!
There should be an air/fuel adjustment screw on the carb. If it is running rich turn it in (clockwise) a little to adjust.
I am trying to fix a Cart that looks exactly the same as the one in this video. What Model is this? I have fitted new Spark Plug, fuel filter and checked for fuel in the float bowl. looking to remove the carburetor but would like to have a new gasket ready. Can you help with Model Type please - Watched a few of your video's now - excellent.
I think that was a G5?... but not sure. As I recall it had a 4 cycle (stroke) engine and not the 2 cycle (where you have to mix gas and 2 cycle oil).
If you lift the cab you will find the id# and you can go online and look it up.

The location of your cars serial number varies depending on the model - but Yamaha Golf Cars normally have them in one of 3 places: Under the rear bumper on the frame. Under the seat where the floor board meets the motor compartment. Under the driver side glove box.

Won't stay running for more than a minute or two. Thought we put in bad gas. Siphoned out all gas and replaced spark plug, air filter, oil and filter, both fuel filters and fuel lines. Still not starting and running. Not getting fuel through the lines to the second filter. Any suggestions? Float in gas tank? Can I replace internal parts on tank or do I need to get a whole new tank?
Did you check your fuel pump?

If you are not getting fuel to your carb and your fuel pump is good then there is a blockage along the way. Check at each point along the fuel line while blowing into the tank fill opening and you should be able to pinpoint the blockage. Maybe you installed one of the filters backwards?...etc.

Changed the carburetor. Still no gas. We unhooked the fuel line from the tank valve and placed directly into tank. Worked! Pulled out the tank valve and the hose had sediment at the top and the valve was completely blocked. Cleaned out the value and line, hooked everything back up and running great! Now that I replaced everything from tank to engine I should be set for a while. Thank you!

I got mine to fire and it moves but like 1 mile an hour lol. It goes faster in reverse no problem. Idk what to do anymore. I went through everything.
I found out running ethanol-free gas Annette golf cart I had that same problem with mine had that same problem with mine that set a couple two or three years I know before I bought it ethanol free Ed run a lot better
I am cringing... I did that one foot in the cart and pressed the gas pedal a few days ago.... It caught, launched like a top fueler, ran my one leg over and plowed into a barn post at high speed. Lesson Learned here! I'll be jacking a drive wheel off the ground from now on before trying that again.
I have since learned of the gizmo on the back of the shifter microswitch thingamajig to allow it to run during maintenance tasks. Much safer!

I’m having the same problem. I reran all the wires. N the fuel is shooting out the carburetor. I changed fuel filter put a couple fuel lines. N the fuel pump is good the float is good and the fuel is clean new spark plugs n it’s getting fire to the spark plugs
make sure fuel is being filled with needle and seat, take carb apart, clean needle seat area with 4 ought steel wool and a q tip rod , insert and twist to make shiny, check needle for good rubber tip, reinstall , poof , it works. lol
what if when you spray starter fluid in and it doesn't fire?
check for spark... also if you are spraying starting fluid in your carb... your carb could be clogged. You can try removing spark plug and spraying in there to bypass the carb.
If you have a 2 cycle engine be careful using starting fluid because the cylinder needs oil for lubrication... but a little squirt to see if it will fire shouldn't hurt just to check... if yours is a 2 cycle engine you can also put a little 2 cycle fuel in the cylinder to see if it will fire (assuming you have spark).
@@helpinguonline so we cleaned the carb. didn't resolve the issue. It will go in Reverse but no power going forward. It has spark, fired a little with starter fluid in the cylinder. ordered a fuel pump and carb just in case, but could this be a damaged shift cable? We did lower the rear end to add a lift, cable "could" of been pinched?
If it will run in reverse it sounds like you do not have a problem with the engine running but something else related to the work you did to "add a lift"
I'm good with the procedure you used as a professional repair guy. But some of the process shouldn't be done by the novice. Such as starting fluid direct Into the carb or cylinder. Should really be sprayed into the air cleaner. Carb cleaner would be a much safer alternative for use as starting fluid. I've seen too many vapor locked engines and bent rods from improper use of starting fluid. Great video otherwise

Good video but wandering why you did'nt take your tools with you. Oh, and tell your friend to use 100% fuel all the time or at least when he stores it for the winter.
I pulled a trailer to take it to my shop if it was more involved than an hour or so. Got a little more involved there than I planned.

So your cleaned the carb for nothing.
The process of elimination is to start with the quick and easy things that might be the problem leaving major surgery as a last resort.
Running the car at high speed with clean gas should clean the carb.Italian tune up.
use lucas injector cleaner, best stuff ever, will stablize fuel for 2 yr. and clean to like new inside carb. ask me how i know. Ron
