Really impressed with my Series X. Most games runs really smooth, and the console is so silent. And Quick Resume is fantastic. 5 seconds after turning console on you are in the game!
The quick resume thing keeps messing with me, I hadent played doom eternal in about a month and I jumped back on it and got thrown into my ultra nightmare run and died instantly 😂
Quick resume seemed to be a massive gimmick to me that I thought I would never care about but once I got a Series X it definitely enhances your experience . Impressive console so far.

I hope they add the dead space trilogy to the FPS boost list. Phenomenal games with decent graphics even to this day, but that 60fps would be a game changer!
I just played through 1 and 2, both games still look amazing. 4k at 60fps would be perfect. Amazing how some 360 games still hold up with visuals. The sound is top notch in the first one on headphones or surround.
This is actually a huge deal. This requires no work from the developer and no updates to game code for the end user to download. Doing it this way can also potentially avoid things like licensing issues because the game code remains unchanged. Microsoft should get major props for continually sinking money and resources into making games people have already paid for even better.

GTA 5 needs a 60fps mode for the next-next gen version or at least enable 60fps via Backwards Compatibility mode on Series X/S. *UPDATE (March 2022):* It happened. GTA 5 is being *sold* (not a free upgrade as expected) for the 9th gen consoles that have a 60fps performance mode.

I remember when I was 10 and playing games on my 360 and I could feel the difference between 30fps and 60fps, without even knowing what framerate was. I could feel it and see it, but I couldn't name why it was different. It blows my mind people deny that there is a difference.

Im completely impressed by the Watchdogs 2 60fps tweak for XSS, my Ryzen 2600 (with an RX580) isn't able to sustain 60fps, not even at 900P and using console settings. Im completely CPU bottlenecked. XSS is a little beast.
I think that's because Microsofts emulation can take advantage of the RDNA2 feature sets also. So it should definitely be able to run at a sustained 60fps.
@Hallison Michel and new games at higher resolution. Dude, don't be salty. this is a good thing... i'd applaud Sony too if they could somehow bring games like Bloodborne to 60 fps, as other modders have. it takes an odd sort of gamer to not want to play anything before 2021.
While I agree 900p is not good, it could mean by using this d3d injector style strategy we could get a resolution bump eventually. It all depends on how well the system can handle it. As you can see Sniper Elite 4 still has some drops on the Series S. If it means higher frames with the same resolution I’m down. 1080p with supersampling should still be the standard on the Series X if they pull this off though.
@@deathdealerx7505 we should also all note, according to the video above, only 1 game out of the 5 was at 900p. the next two were at 1080p 60 fps, one was at 1800p 60fps and super luckys tale ran at 4k 120 fps. if anything, we should be incredibly excited if they can start bringing this fps work-around to the many One X enhanced games from 2017-2020. the promise of this is huge.
Just played dark souls 3 on my series x, it runs at 30fps like the one x version. Which didn't use to bother me. But now 30fps feels choppy and almost unplayable.
I used to be like that but when recently playing Spiderman Miles Morales on PS5 I find the 30fps ray trace mode horrible compared to the Performance RT mode for some reason. I’m finding it hard going back to 30fps games when the option is there
How did the OneS play SE4 in 3d mode, if it can't even run the game in 2d mode at 30fps? 3d mode must have been atrocious! Didn't know the framerate was unlocked on ps4 systems. Gonna check this out on ps5; maybe get 120fps in 3d!
Both sonic generations and unleashed deserve 60FPS. Jungle joyride in particular already gets a huge performance boost just by running on the series consoles, where as before it was a slideshow on the 360.
Imagine if they get every game made available with this lol I'd be down for weekly batches of new games, xbox can now promote pretty much ANY GAME from any era and ppl will get hyped because everything will run in 60fps/120fps
And if they can get this working, even on most titles, you would assume it’s only a matter of time before other companies figure out how to do this as well. It’s the kind of tech that eventually benefits the entire industry.

If they do this I would like my money back for buying the remastered version of Control. Yeah I know they added Ray Tracing but nobody uses the quality mode when you have a smooth 60fps. And since this game is a Xbox one X Enhanced Title that means the The textures are the exact same as FPS mode on the New Remastered version

This is one of those next gen moments we've been waiting for on Xbox. Doubling framerates all the way up to 120fps in your existing catalog, with faster load times to boot. Hopefully when DirectML super resolution goes live, they can use that to take some of these games up to 1440p or even 4K.
@@acosadorempedernido3217 Xbox Series supports hardware accelerated machine learning, DirectML is an API Microsoft is working on to use ML to increase the resolution of games, similar to DLSS. When it's ready it will be used both on Xbox and PC. The advantage over something like DLSS is that it should be GPU agnostic, meaning it should work on AMD, Nvidia or even future Intel graphics cards. So it could become more widely integrated into game engines of different studios than even DLSS.
@@jirengray6188 doesn't matter. Microsoft owns the Sunset Overdrive IP. They can do with it as they will. It's like if FromSoftware was bought by MS. You'd NEVER see Bloodborne on Xbox because the IP is owned by Sony to do with as they please. Of course Sony could still publish it wherever they want, but its their choice just like Microsoft could still make more Sunset Overdrive even without Insomniac.
@@oneeyesy3457 No they don't. They own the publishing rights for the first game. The reason why Insomniac developed Sunset with Microsoft is because Microsoft allowed them to own the IP. Sunset was also first pitched to Sony but Sony wanted to own it. Ironic really, as Sony now do own it.
Except this isn't mod, this is on DirectX API level. What you see from Skyrim Xbox One 60fps mod is just an edited .ini file, also this FPS mod don't even touch game file which is impressive.

But man this is a huge selling point for the console so hopefully, the team is big enough, I know these first few games are proof of concept. I do think that there are certain games this technique won't work with but let hope we get a decent amount it does work with
This is the kind of QoL improvement I'm here for. Apart from 'we've unlocked the entire OG Xbox library,' this is one of the best announcements I could have asked for. I know that because this is DX related, we can't expect to see it on PS5, but I hope they can come up with something as well as I'd love this generation to be all about taking your library with you as tech advances. The white-gloved results are fantastic, but having a blanket boost is incredible and the only answer for a large number of titles where the production companies are defunct.
@@Valhura77 It's nice to get to experience a bunch of games I didn't have time to play but to get the modern benefits of better framerate and upscaling where applicable. Alice: Madness Returns was rough on 360 and PC has tons of issues because activation servers are gone. But I'm finally playing it because of the Series and its brute force solution to the lag.
I might give Dragon Age: Inquisition a shot again if they can improve the fps to 60 on the series x. The sluggish frame rate on console kills that game and makes looting enemies, navigating menus and just moving feel really sluggish.
One thing that is interesting that I have been thinking about is how games that use temporal anti aliasing are going to benefit from the higher framerate. Since temporal anti-aliasing uses previous frame data to smooth out edges (and since it was such a well loved solution last gen), having more frames to reference will make it so there are less issues with visible ghosting of the old frames since the frames referenced will be closer together instead of larger jumps. So in some ways these framerate updates area actually going to have a cascading effect on the visual quality too. Super cool.

yeah that would be amazing. i just got it the other day as well. apparently 60 fps mods on pc for bully break the game which is why a technique like this which doesn't rely on modding the code would be perfect. red dead redemption too.

Idk how Nintendo is always seen as the good guy... Nintendo is charging $60 for skyward sword which is basically a resolution boost... and Microsoft is proposing to do this for the entire backlog 100% for free. This just made the series s + gamepass the best deal in the history of gaming.
This is amazing tech that has the potential to really future proof your games. It is quite a feat of software engineering. Microsoft appears to be making all the right moves lately and I’m excited as a gamer.

And this is also super promising for the batch of games that came out between 2017-2020 that were One X enhanced. (meaning resolutions from 1440-2160p) Like, how can you look at this and be like... "still not good enough for me!"

The only issue i have had with series X is the controller often stops working but i am using latest alpha preview and there are often issues like that in the program. Hopefully it's not happening in the mainstream version though.
@@Crimsongz Microsofts techinique for emulating 60 doesnt interact with a games code so unless pc display drivers get updated with a similiar feature, okami on Xbox has a better shot at 60 then pc
@@TalkingMachine The way they do it can't be used in every game. For example things like animations playing twice as fast and other glitches have appeared in some of games they're testing.
@@UltraCasualPenguin But that really depends in how the game is coded. Most games can, but Okami probably not since it is a PS2 era game, and at that time game logic was tied to FPS. Dark Souls on PC for example depends on FPS for physics, so you can fall through the floor when going down ladders on 60 FPS, but the rest works fine
Probably the fact that most people only have access to 30hz and 60hz screens. 120hz isn't quite a standard yet out side of higher tier monitors, phones, and TVs.

Unfortunately, I wish the "Enhanced Graphics" like on Rise of the Tomb Raider were 60fps on the SX. All of the extra shadowing and textures makes the game look noticeably better but I keep playing in 60fps because I prefer muh frames.
If 30fps games look like a slideshow to you try switching out of game mode for those games and they will look fine. I have to do that or else I can't play at 30fps as it drives me crazy.

I could never play at 30fps I even saw a HUGE difference between 30 and 60fps in this video watching from my smartphone. Is so noticeable I can't believe people don't see the difference is even noticeable in this video from Digital Foundry.
@@ktmdante1826 no I mean actual game mode or low latency mode. At least on Samsung tvs I've noticed playing 30fps games in that mode it just looks stuttery. If I play that same 30fps game in standard its fine. For 60fps games I play in game mode.
I wish they’d do this for Final Fantasy XV’s “High” Mode. The “Lite” mode is so nice at 60fps but would love to not have to sacrifice the visual enhancements.
Wish Deus Ex Mankind Divided would get an upgrade. It never recived a 1X patch so runs at 900p. It would be awesome to play it at 60fps and a higher resolution.
Its not underrated Remember farcry3 is the best farcry game. And after that game people hoped farcry4 would be a sequel to farcry 3 as people were loving vaas more then anything. But farcry 4 turned else... And ngl its a decent game. 3 was still better
Backwards compatibility is one of my favorite things about the Series X. Glad to see them still improving upon it. Hopefully they add more OG/360 playable titles as well.

@Steps With this method, I know. By continue to work with, I mean through a small patch or whatever is needed. Modifying the resolution in most modern games is normally a trivial modification.
@@TheCgOrion they can't patch the game because for that they need access to the code of the game which is with the developer. What they are doing is using a loop hole by brute forcing their way to increase the fps of the game.
If Sony had done this the script would have been... "Incredible they even managed to improve games which aren't heavy hitters. Shows that the tech is extremely flexible."

As I was saying before, come to me when there is little to no work done by the devs for the boost in FPS. Pretty sure the devs had quite some work for you’re titles. Xbox on the other hand can do it without them. I didn’t have to pay a penny either 😂 you on the other hand are spending $70 per game. Just a reminder that we are getting an exclusive this summer ya dumb tool. It’s called Perfect Dark and that’s just the start.
One of the many joys of upgrading your gpu/cpu or building a new gaming pc for me has always been going back to the games I've enjoyed, never got to play and were difficult to run and playing through with better graphics and better framerates. I'm glad console owners get to experience the same thing with some of these games.
@@mjc0961 I have it played around 2 hours on XSX, what I played I liked, but I will wait for the XSX upgrade before jumping back in, they are constantly rolling out updates too, so by the time I get around to it, it will hopefully not be too bad. I have gamepass so I am overwhelmed with games to play right now.
Imagine DLSS combined with other technique that makes the game looks like it is running at 60 fps and internally it is running at 25-30 fps. That would be a game changer.

Im completely impressed by the Watchdogs 2 60fps tweak for XSS, my Ryzen 2600 (with an RX580) isn't able to sustain 60fps, not even at 900P and using console settings. Im completely CPU bottlenecked. XSS is a little beast.

I think that's because Microsofts emulation can take advantage of the RDNA2 feature sets also. So it should definitely be able to run at a sustained 60fps.

While I agree 900p is not good, it could mean by using this d3d injector style strategy we could get a resolution bump eventually. It all depends on how well the system can handle it. As you can see Sniper Elite 4 still has some drops on the Series S. If it means higher frames with the same resolution I’m down. 1080p with supersampling should still be the standard on the Series X if they pull this off though.
@@deathdealerx7505 we should also all note, according to the video above, only 1 game out of the 5 was at 900p. the next two were at 1080p 60 fps, one was at 1800p 60fps and super luckys tale ran at 4k 120 fps.
if anything, we should be incredibly excited if they can start bringing this fps work-around to the many One X enhanced games from 2017-2020. the promise of this is huge.

Just played dark souls 3 on my series x, it runs at 30fps like the one x version. Which didn't use to bother me. But now 30fps feels choppy and almost unplayable.

I used to be like that but when recently playing Spiderman Miles Morales on PS5 I find the 30fps ray trace mode horrible compared to the Performance RT mode for some reason. I’m finding it hard going back to 30fps games when the option is there

Both sonic generations and unleashed deserve 60FPS. Jungle joyride in particular already gets a huge performance boost just by running on the series consoles, where as before it was a slideshow on the 360.

This is one of those next gen moments we've been waiting for on Xbox. Doubling framerates all the way up to 120fps in your existing catalog, with faster load times to boot. Hopefully when DirectML super resolution goes live, they can use that to take some of these games up to 1440p or even 4K.

When it's ready it will be used both on Xbox and PC. The advantage over something like DLSS is that it should be GPU agnostic, meaning it should work on AMD, Nvidia or even future Intel graphics cards. So it could become more widely integrated into game engines of different studios than even DLSS.

Except this isn't mod, this is on DirectX API level. What you see from Skyrim Xbox One 60fps mod is just an edited .ini file, also this FPS mod don't even touch game file which is impressive.

This is the kind of QoL improvement I'm here for. Apart from 'we've unlocked the entire OG Xbox library,' this is one of the best announcements I could have asked for. I know that because this is DX related, we can't expect to see it on PS5, but I hope they can come up with something as well as I'd love this generation to be all about taking your library with you as tech advances. The white-gloved results are fantastic, but having a blanket boost is incredible and the only answer for a large number of titles where the production companies are defunct.

I might give Dragon Age: Inquisition a shot again if they can improve the fps to 60 on the series x. The sluggish frame rate on console kills that game and makes looting enemies, navigating menus and just moving feel really sluggish.
I'm playing now and I'm thinking about stopping it awaiting a boost mode for it.

One thing that is interesting that I have been thinking about is how games that use temporal anti aliasing are going to benefit from the higher framerate. Since temporal anti-aliasing uses previous frame data to smooth out edges (and since it was such a well loved solution last gen), having more frames to reference will make it so there are less issues with visible ghosting of the old frames since the frames referenced will be closer together instead of larger jumps. So in some ways these framerate updates area actually going to have a cascading effect on the visual quality too. Super cool.

The only issue i have had with series X is the controller often stops working but i am using latest alpha preview and there are often issues like that in the program. Hopefully it's not happening in the mainstream version though.

And seems like MS checks each game and isnt totally simple, so MS would have to control it on PC for each game and not something anyone could use.
@@TalkingMachine The way they do it can't be used in every game. For example things like animations playing twice as fast and other glitches have appeared in some of games they're testing.

Dark Souls on PC for example depends on FPS for physics, so you can fall through the floor when going down ladders on 60 FPS, but the rest works fine

The difference is really huge between 30 and 60fps I can see it immediately. The 30fps look like a sideshow...
If 30fps games look like a slideshow to you try switching out of game mode for those games and they will look fine. I have to do that or else I can't play at 30fps as it drives me crazy.

I could never play at 30fps I even saw a HUGE difference between 30 and 60fps in this video watching from my smartphone. Is so noticeable I can't believe people don't see the difference is even noticeable in this video from Digital Foundry.

That's cool, but it would be nice if they actually started releasing new backwards compatible Xbox OG and 360 games again.
I'm waiting on a few 360 games, hopefully they start the program up again this year.

It seems they have ported all the titles they could get permission or feasible to port.
Hopefully they continue to work with it. Far Cry 4 and Watchdogs 2 should be able to hold 60 on a true 1440p using the Series X.
@Steps With this method, I know. By continue to work with, I mean through a small patch or whatever is needed. Modifying the resolution in most modern games is normally a trivial modification.
@@TheCgOrion they can't patch the game because for that they need access to the code of the game which is with the developer. What they are doing is using a loop hole by brute forcing their way to increase the fps of the game.

@@Timmytiny1 I’m playing Dark Souls 3 60fps right now on PS5... can Xbox do that? What about GoW recent 60fps patch. Miles Morales 60fps AND ray tracing with 2018 Spider-Man remastered the same. Sekiro 60fps on PS5 and not Xbox. I could go on...
@@spenny2cents I don’t give a damn about those games. If I wanted to watch a movie I’d just throw one on if that were the case. As I was saying before, come to me when there is little to no work done by the devs for the boost in FPS. Pretty sure the devs had quite some work for you’re titles. Xbox on the other hand can do it without them. I didn’t have to pay a penny either 😂 you on the other hand are spending $70 per game. Just a reminder that we are getting an exclusive this summer ya dumb tool. It’s called Perfect Dark and that’s just the start.

One of the many joys of upgrading your gpu/cpu or building a new gaming pc for me has always been going back to the games I've enjoyed, never got to play and were difficult to run and playing through with better graphics and better framerates. I'm glad console owners get to experience the same thing with some of these games.

The FPS Boost feature is very useful and has been a breath of new life for some games. Great video by Rich and Linneman again.
Hopefully the originally watch dogs will have a FPS boost! That’s my favorite game in the series

@@mjc0961 I have it played around 2 hours on XSX, what I played I liked, but I will wait for the XSX upgrade before jumping back in, they are constantly rolling out updates too, so by the time I get around to it, it will hopefully not be too bad. I have gamepass so I am overwhelmed with games to play right now.

Imagine DLSS combined with other technique that makes the game looks like it is running at 60 fps and internally it is running at 25-30 fps. That would be a game changer.
