Not just when firing weapons, that little tap when walking that changes depending on what you are standing on or what your pace is, that is the real winner.
Firs time playing, PS5 graphics mode. The RT really brings the environment to life and draws me in, happy with the rock solid 30fps for this fidelity tbh....but the real winner is the use of the Dualsense, the feeling of your steps on different surfaces and trigger resistance, just awesome!
The thing is, each step of ray tracing takes up a little over 1ms and it doesn't matter at which resolution you do it, so 60fps with RT is really difficult. I guess there could be a 1080p 40fps mode with RT and ultra settings. It would work well since 120hz/3= 40 so there would be even frame pacing, with the added beneffit that if there is a dropped frame, you wouldn't feel it nearly as much as if dropping from 30 to 20.

They didn't mention that the PS5 file size is around 25Gbs, while it's 42Gbs on the Series consoles. That makes the similar loading time more impressive.
All that tells me is that the Series X/S versions didn’t receive the same amount of time and optimization. Makes it even worse when you consider that it’s free on PS and $40 on Series consoles. Sad.
It's not about optimization but rather how the Xbox Series S/X handles compression. PlayStation 5 can decompress and move data faster than the Xbox Series S/X because of the architectural improvements. So if the data is compressed as much on Xbox Series S/X as it is on the PlayStation 5 it would result in longer loading times and possible pop-in due to taking more time for the system to decompress the data.

It's clear now that MS guys did something wrong with the hardware! 90% of games run better on ps5. I think the 2,23 GHz are paying. Running 36 CU at 2,23 is more efficient than 52 at 1.825. Add to this the superior ssd and decompression solution on ps5.

@@zakixbox Maybe it's the hardware. Time will tell. Especially when it comes to frames per second (Performance Mode) against visuals (Graphic Mode) the higher clock speed makes a difference and Ps5 is able to perform better. But on the other hand the graphic mode theoretically should perform better on the Series X (~40% more CU's and RT power ... in theory). Maybe it's still a lack of proper development tools or maybe the optimizing is not done well. Maybe the game was updated to the new generation consoles by having the PS5 in focus and then it was ported to the Xbox consoles (because on a first look a lot of the hardware is equal) but without taking care of the specific hardware properties of the Series X. It's only a guess but might be true because it's cheaper for the developer to update a game of the old generation mainly on on of the consoles and then porting it to the other console as their hardware is very similar this generation. A lot of "maybe"s and a lot of guessing. I'm neither a fanboy of the Playstation nor of the Series X but I try to be open minded and see the (technical) facts. People also point out the Kraken Compression on the Playstation and this one is definitely a big thing but on the other hand Microsoft has something similar available on the Series consoles (not exactly the same as their algorithm works different and focuses on textures). Well what i want to say .. the file size shouldn't vary that much as it currently does. This again leads to the guess that the game was not yet optimized on the Series X as good as it maybe was for the PS5. Maybe because the Developer-Kits still are a mess. I don't know. We will see. You and they act like the kid on a playground whenever something dont go their way that must mean there was some unfairness happening because theres no way you could possibly be beaten, right? Listen, a game running better on one than the other doesnt have to do with just how powerful a console is. This gen so far should be proof of that. A game running better on the ps5 doesnt make the ps5 more powerful. It just makes it better for that game. And when a game runs worse on the xsx, doesnt make the xsx any less powerful, it just makes it the worse place to play that game of the two. Simple as that. Control is already a demanding game on anything, but you get the impression that a lot of gamers don't quite understand how computationally heavy Ray Tracing is in complex, modern AAA games. To hit 60fps with a mix of Off, low, medium and high RT settings, alongside acceptable visual presets, most PC players are using overall system specs in the range of $1500 USD builds and up. In raw price vs. performance terms, the expectation that $400/$500 AMD-based consoles should produce RT + 60fps results across the board... these are not realistic expectations for every developer and game. But the fact that we're seeing SO MANY gen-on-gen 30fps to 60fps increases on PS5 and Series X should be celebrated in and of itself. After all, RT won't enhance your core gameplay experience -- while 60fps *directly* enhances your input response and interactive fidelity, i.e., gameplay, and that's an improvement you can truly feel in combat and traversal from moment-to-moment.
We've reached a point where 3 fps frame-drop is an issue and I'm grateful. I...remember darker times.

Performance RT mode would've been nice.
The thing is, each step of ray tracing takes up a little over 1ms and it doesn't matter at which resolution you do it, so 60fps with RT is really difficult. I guess there could be a 1080p 40fps mode with RT and ultra settings.
But the gameplay also benefits a lot from the frame rate. I actually quite torn. I'm willing to settle for 30FPS now since it's practically locked. Is this another case of there being an unintended inefficiency in the Xbox GDK? Painful to see, as a series X owner. I am hoping this can be fixed as it appears fairly consistently across games so far.
It's clear now that MS guys did something wrong with the hardware! 90% of games run better on ps5. I think the 2,23 GHz are paying. Running 36 CU at 2,23 is more efficient than 52 at 1.825. Add to this the superior ssd and decompression solution on ps5.

Mark cerny talked about it, and people laughed at him, well I think he got the last laugh!
But definitley both consoles doing a great job and this generation (for me) is much more interesting and has a higher impact than last generation consoles.

Is it me or is it when theres some issue on the xsx, its always explained away by saying it must be some glitch or bug, but when the issie is on the ps5 its oh well it's the weaker console so its expected or something to that effect lol.
If these issues are appearing predominantly on the xsx, and across multiple kinds of games, isnt it reasonable to think or even say that it's a hardware issue than all those games having the same bugs causing these issues?
Just an observation I noticed on this channel.
Yeah your not the only one, multiple people have said the same. When it's playstation it's a hardware issue, when it's Xbox it's a tools or needs a patch, proper bias.

@@bmdshred77 tflops, aren't the only thing that determines what console is best or better.
So you truly believe that every time the xsx version of a 3rd party game has a shortcoming that it's a glitch or bug, but not when it's the same on ps5.
Goddamn, talk about a double standard.
You, and others, need to accept that the xsx will lose to the ps5 sometime and it doesnt mean there was a glitch or bug. It just means it got beat. As is evident so far.
Great stuff from Digital Foundry, as always! Control seems to be their main go-to RT benchmark for the foreseeable future!
These frame drops on SX/SS are getting consistent with time, so it's obviously either an API level inconsistency, or the split memory configuration, and all those are things that will need more dev time and engine optimization.
It's so obvious that PS5 just brute forces with ease and is easier to optimize for.
