I have my doubts about steam coming to xbox. Maybe it's because I don't know much about business and i find it difficult for valve to lock multiplayer behind a paywall since they're free on pc: Besides, steamstore and msstore would compete against one another in the same platform.
I am confident that console games should come with resolution sliders and framerate options (30, 60, and 120). Not only can that future-proof those games to a certain degree, it will give the user the option to find their preferred setting. This should also strike a healthy balance between keeping consoles "plug and play" friendly and giving users control over their gameplay experience. The game developers can fine tune the actual quality settings to meet the variety of combinations.
It would be nice to see more games on console offer an option to simply cap the framerate at 60 or unlock it completely (provided that doesn't break aspects of the game). I can't really see it taking up much dev time at all, it's not like they need to develop and optimize a new mode. Just let players change the fps cap if they want. Sure, that mode will probably be a stuttery judder-filled mess at launch, and very very few people would use it; but it pseudo-futureproofs it for the next generation of back-compat, giving it a lot more replayability later on. I think more games might actually offer this option this generation, due to the rise of VRR on TVs and Monitors which smooth out variable framerate experiences.
Also have 1080/1440/2160 resolution options would be great too. If the console could do 1080p120fps I should have that option rather than always trying to hit 4k60fps. Or given the choice I would rather have 1440p60fps over 4k30fps. Next-Gen consoles are great but developers should code in these "future proof" options because there are so many old games that will be locked to crappy settings. Make the settings more like PC so we can choose how we want to play the game.
Depending on the engine, FPS cap unlocks can be anything from completely trivial to an entire remaster of the game (especially when physics is FPS dependant). Anything that has a PC release should be able to at least offer 60 FPS cap modes though, if not unlocked.
@@Keepskatin wayyy too slowly! The new console generations BC can't even figure out a way to give us a way to run old games at 60. Instead, it needs to be one of the ten whole games that have an unlocked framerates to see gains. Meanwhile, 98% of console gamersvdon't understand this, they think BC on "next gen" automatically means drastically better. On PC you can get real improvement with BC but console companies know they can get away with the least effort possible because console gamers are too dumb to understand what is what or because more gamers these days will defend these companies instead of demand better. @@MrMaurice1124 It's the truth. It wont be. Go on any gaming mag site, even anti-xbox ones. Xbox series can play, Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox one games. The PS5 will have a very limited back compatibility list compared to Xbox as it can only play PS4 games. Sony doesn't prioritize it. Not even store purchases will work. Both consoles have their pros and cons. "PS5 is not backwards compatible with PS3 games, although it is backwards compatible with PS4 games, meaning some remasters are playable on PlayStation 5. ... It's worth noting that PS3 Blu-ray discs and PS3 PS Store purchases will not be compatible with the PS5, however."
@@MrMaurice1124 Performance wise the Xbox series is the stronger console. So while they will be similar 2+ Tflops difference is a lot( It's like saying their is no difference between a GTX 1060 and a 1080), especially if not all back compatibility titles use PS5's boost mode to get to the 10tflop mark, since emulating older games seems to take up more resources then it should for both Xbox and PS. So at it's worst if they don't use boost mode that is 9tflops to to 12 tflops, that is a 25 percent difference among all the resource hogging BC games take. This is just one of MS selling points since Sony has a larger exclusive library. Like I said above both systems have their pros and cons. But Xbox does have the leg up in this department.

@@S0UNDWAVE Because at 45 FPS on a 60hz panel, frames are divided unevenly compared to 60 fps and 30 fps. Digital Foundry actually goes into more detail on this in their "Batman: Return to Arkham: Xbox One X's Most Disappointing Upgrade?" video.
The Witcher 3 ran at 1080p-1332p 45-60fps on the one X. It did run at dynamic resolution scaling above 1080p, so I think it might be even able to reach 4k 60fps on the series X with performance mode. But it isn't compatible with the series X and cdpr is releasing a next gen optimized version of the Witcher 3 with raytracing for free.
I'm so happy the Xbox series X is so powerful. I cannot wait to play Sekiro and Evil Within 2 at 60 frames. Really hope they enhance the first evil within as it's only 900p and MS bought Bethesda.
Would be great if the back compat team put in some extra work for Bethesda titles that have framerate caps etc. Such as the Dishonored series, Prey and even Wet (if they make it compatible).
This is why frame caps need to be thrown into a fire. No excuse for some of these older games, especially dumpster fires like Ark. Next-gen couldn't come soon enough.
I have tried this unpatched on SeriesX and offline. It runs at a smooth framerate that looks 60fps (i can’t measure it) without the need to die. Pre-rendered cutscenes are messy but gameplay was smooth from the start.
No point to upgrade between the 2, if they can't hit 60 FPS in last gen no way they'll hit 120 in next gen. I would've bought Series X but no point will get the S, what a shame
I'm just happy that both MS and Sony are going to release boxes that are significantly faster than previous gen. Even though on paper, Xbox One and PS4 where faster than their previous counterparts, I never felt that it was a "massive" leap. Now, this stuff looks great!
The game’s in this video which aren’t hitting 60fps on Series X isn’t because the Console isn’t more than capable of doing it but rather it’s because these are unpatched game’s which aren’t taking full advantage of the new hardware, and they’re not yet optimized or enhanced since they’re basic unoptimized plug n play back compatibility ports ! Game’s like RDR2, and or Corsa Racing can both do locked 60fps without breaking a sweat if the devs actually spend the time to push a Series X optimized patch or enhancement, and I’m pretty sure at the very least eventually rock star will definitely unlock the frame rate, and deliver a 4K 60fps experience for RDR2 at some point in the future after launch 🚀
With the announcement last night that PUBG console will use the X1X version on XSX, X1S version on XSS, and PS4 pro version on PS5 can we get a test on those with load times and framerates?
@Cryer24597 Most of it is good, but the first person modes in Rockstar games are almost unusable for me at 30fps. Their movement and animation system is already quite slow, but having more input lag on gun firing and moving the stick makes it undesirable. 30fps only really works in third person games.
Really cool to see your team's desire for a better metric of image quality beyond mere pixel count. There is a lot of research in the area of no reference image quality assessment, which is an incredibly hard problem due to the apparent need to understand the context of a scene in order to determine whether blur is aesthetic or defective. Anyway, there is some very cool progress in this area using deep neural networks, so I'm glad to see another potential application for such work.
@@sean7332 lots to test. Does it hold 120fps? Does it have dynamic resolution? Does it it hold 4k 120? Side by side comparison with one x and pc? Is there ray tracing? How does 120 mode compare to 60 mode? The list goes on.
Maybe a bit late to the party on this one, but Fortnite: Battle Royale has a campaign mode ("Save the World") that is normally capped at 30 on consoles, but has an option to uncap the framerate. Developers really need to include a non capped framerate option, even if the change its not that big, its dissapointing seeing batman at 30fps and RDR2 at 30fps, and they also need to add 1080p and 4k options, i would rater 1080p60 in RDR2 than 4k30, and the bad thing its that even 1080p is capped

@@VanSanProductions Even Mobile games give better frame and gpu options than consoles, but it is improving on consoles.

The Witcher 3 ran at 1080p-1332p 45-60fps on the one X. It did run at dynamic resolution scaling above 1080p, so I think it might be even able to reach 4k 60fps on the series X with performance mode.

@@whatif7351 right, we haven't had a new gta since the 360 lmao, they just ported gta 5, and they are doing it again, they are porting a 360 game to next gen, its weird because I thought Sony didn't care about old games, but I guess it brings them lots of money.
@@Aaron-xr7oc Yeah, even if they did changes to the ports with graphics still the same 2 gens ago game, even tho thats not Sony's or Microsoft's fault, its Rockstar games, cause they still making a lot of money with gta v, so they don't really need to do another one

I played just cause 3 and 4 and my og xbox one just fine but damn that some bad fps
I got used to playing at a constant 20 FPS on my base Xbox one
Play it again on your Xbox One and then on the Series X, I guarantee you won't go back. Higher framerates are a game changer.
Lol i literally finished yesterday the campaign, on my PS4 Pro.
I absolutely loved the game, but holy crap, one of the worst optimized games i EVER played. Fps dips to 15 or 10 in intense sequences (very often!) 😅
I'm hoping to see PS5 running it at solid 30fps like Series X does.
@@peterGchaves 10fps? That's unusual. Did you play with Boost mode on? I played on Pro and worst case was 20 fps during rain and huge explosions.
@@Scalene_2 i don't really replay games
Is it just me, or are others confused as well, that in the comparison shots the Series X is seen on the left side? Somehow I'm conditioned by the typical before-and-after comparisons, that the "old stuff" is on the left and the "new stuff" on the right. Every time there was a split-screen I was a bit confused, why the One X is better, until I noticed that I was looking at the wrong side again.
Damn its pushing 135fps cant wait to get mine 😃
Did u not see the screen tearing ?
@@kaneiii3342 yes thats to be expected for a unoptimized game my guy 😂 until a patch releases it will continue
@Foaad Hisham ???
@Foaad Hisham understandable
@Aputsiaq Lennert what about ubisoft games
Have Xbox actually shown any next gen games yet? Because all I've seen so far are games that are Current Gen with modern enhancements..
You guys make awesome consistent content.
I wonder how Oblivion would play, I remember that game had those Stupid loading while walking around, would it be the same or it will disappear with the Series X?
It better had as that is one of the games I am buying the series X to FINALLY play at proper STABLE frame rates and loading times... It's fucking TWENTY TWENTY can I PLEASE play Oblivion properly....
I really want Conflict: Desert Storm 1, 2 and Vietnam to be backwards compatible. I can dream
Loved The Desert Storm games and Global Terror. I wish that series would come back because the realtime character ordering and switching was great. Also playing co-op with two characters each or a 4 player team was some of the best co-op gaming I have played.
@@ChrisWTube I feel exactly the same dude. So many good memories from the split screen, the order relaying system and actually just the different tactical approaches you could take in each level.
I also have the same feelings for the old SOCOM and Ghost Recon games which used similar order relay systems but that's for another time.
Thumbs up for Republic Commando at 60fps!
Looking forward to some Series S tests - seems like nobody is doing them! I imagine there may be an embargo on the S! Can someone at least try playing games in 1440P / provide results?
Did MS send any out for review?
Series S is for people who don't care about resolution and performance. But the console use the same CPU as Series X, so the frame rate is pretty much the same we see here
The issue with the Series S is it will have to run games in One S compatibility mode so the games wont have a 1440p option.
@@eliteshergio7375 I'd like to know how many people can actually see a noticeable difference between 2K, 4K and 8K on a TV at 40° FOV.
@@PSNGormond The biggest problem with the series S is that you are only going to have like 300GB of HD space for games. S+1TB expansion cost more than a series X.
