    Honestly, I hate the way the meaning of the word "Diet" has been changed(not literally) to describe starvation methods💀💀💀 It bothers me a lot.
    A healthy diet, which nourishes your body with balanced nutrients, can work wonders for your body and health-this is literally what a diet is. It's not about starving yourself, but every time I hear someone talking about dieting, it usually(sadly) is about eating less...

    • @Natasha.Louisee
      @Natasha.Louisee  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +60

      Oh yes I agree. Whenever I say I’m “on a diet” people freak out. But it was just to implement more fibre and iron into my body~ not to lose weight 😂

    • @mik_sa_sha
      @mik_sa_sha 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

      @@Natasha.Louisee I couldn't agree more! It doesn't bother me as much when others tell me not to diet, but when my mom or friends discourage me from dieting, it does disappoint me and makes me feel a bit uncomfortable.
      For the better context - I'm currently on a health journey, and diet is a crucial part of that process.

      But eating less is the only way to lose weight, which is why people go on “diets”. Every person has a set amount of calories per day going above which causes weight gain. The only problem I have is when people think that they can eat “healthy” food in any amount and it will help them lose weight because it’s all about calories. If you overwork your body by giving it more energy than it needs, it stores it, and if you don’t stop, you’ll significantly reduce your quality of life. It is genuinely concerning, though, that people think that eating less is bad when it actually only causes weight loss, but eating whatever and in any amount is okay because you’re “nourishing your body”?

    Kpop made me full on relapse with my ED when I was 20 and I got to the lowest weight I’ve ever been. I don’t like to talk about it because I think it can scare people off from kpop but it’s a real danger. I was obsessed with these beautiful women and their perfectly thin bodies. It doesn’t help that kpop idolizes the exact same petite figure that I had been since I discovered ED tumblr at 14.
    I try not to think about it anymore but it’s still hard. I’m reminded of the internal pressure every time I watch a kpop stage, even if I try to distract myself. When I’m feeling weak, I still visit ED spaces online and they love winter, rose, & Wonyoung’s bodies - the very thinnest among the thin. It’s scary.
    I worry for vulnerable young women because I know how easy it is to slip under the waves of pressure and it’s so hard to pull yourself out of the riptide. The lure of the beautiful & thin is like a siren song. I still feel the pressure now at 30.

      While I’ve never had a full fledge eating disorder, I have struggled with body image and disordered eating since I was a teenager. As I’ve gotten into my 20s it’s definitely gotten better and I finally felt pretty good about my body for the first time since I was a teenager. I started getting into kpop about a year ago and without me even noticing it all of my body image issues and struggles surrounding food came back, and it was even worse than before it seemed. I absolutely attribute it to kpop and just being constantly exposed to idols who are so thin. It’s like the part of my brain that controls body image issues/eating was suddenly activated again after being exposed to kpop. It’s actually crazy, and I’m just now realizing how damaging it’s been for me.

    i think part of it is that eurocentric features are also 'coming back', think about it
    ariana grande stopped tanning; the kardashians also stopped tanning (as much) and lost tons of weight, taking out their implants; ice spice lost a ton of weight
    being pale and thin has always been a trend in korea, so its not surprising to assume kpop played a role in the skinny trend coming back
    although thin waists, arms, and faces have always been the standard, celebrities are promoting a new trend of smaller lips, smaller legs, lighter skin

      Yes, I think this is it. There was a temporary trend to look racially ambiguous (read: mixed white and black), and now that trend is gone. You see it in music too, hip hop and rap were much more dominant in the early 2000's and 2010's than they are now. The billboard top 10 is whiter, and there are more POC entering traditionally white genres like country. Idk why this is, could just be that people get tired of one trend and look for something "fresh". You see this in fashion and design as well, people reintroduce concepts from the past, and suddenly they look fresh again just because they're different than the dominant trend. Or it could be something darker, related to many people's anxiety about falling white birth rates and immigration.

    I will say the person who hit this trend off was Bella Hadid and filling in hip dips. When she become a top model and got all the surgery and became the beauty standard, things definitely shifted and like 5 years later Kim gets her implants out.
    There was a time in kpop when being thin and straight like a door was enough. But now as a female idol, you need to be skinny and curvy. I suspect this is from influences of the west ie apple hips of the 2010s which eventually led to female idols wearing pads in their hip, which was never a thing in kpop before.

    Yuuuppp, I definitely think the 2000’s revival and the k-wave are affecting people’s tastes in body types.
    I’m literally an example of this- I got a breast reduction last year. I feel I was subconsciously affected by the body types I was seeing in k-dramas (wasn’t into kpop yet). It was still a medically beneficial procedure. But I wonder if I would not have bothered to do it if I was NOT inundated with images of very slim bodies all the time? Whatevs, I’m very happy and much more comfortable now!!

    ED community always adopted "muses" and with the global success of kpop and the dangerous diets adopted by idols it's natural they're turning this away. Before Wony, every single acc had Lisa pics in their profile as thinspo, and before it was IU, etc. When I was active part of that, the muse was Taylor Swift, and before that it was others very skinny celebrities, influencers, and even tumblr girls in the late 2000s. Some of them already publically presenting signs of EDs. Oddly enough all of their communities of fans turn to be always very fatphobics and also very ageists. I'm so convinced that it has to do with kpop becoming so much more mainstream, especially the appearance of east asian idols in western media, red carpet events, etc.

    Kpop has gotten thinner too though. When I started following it back in the 2nd gen era, people were praising Uee's "honey thighs", aka thick thighs, and snsd Yuri's full hips. A couple years later, everyone was obsessed with Seolhyun's round butt. Things seemed to change in 3rd gen, especially with blackpink. The largest blackpink member was around the same size as the average snsd member, while 3 out of 4 were visibly underweight. Things got even worse with the popularity of izone's Wonyoung, who may have been underweight initially because she was a 13 year old that had just completed a growth spurt, but she was under such immense pressure to maintain that skeletal physique that she started losing hair on her head and growing what appears to be anorexia related body hair. I guess Asian beauty standards have always been a bit slimmer than Western ones, but something is changing there too, we can't just attribute this trend to kpop, because kpop has changed. Weirdly, the kpop beauty standard has changed in a lot of ways to fit the Western beauty standard, with things like lip filler. Why would they adopt that beauty ideal, but move away from the Western ideal weight? Something else is going on here globally.

  • @nasiaisan

    yeah we’re cooked. with kpop gaining more and more popularity in the west, ppl like the kardashians who were hugely responsible for the unhealthy tiny waist, big lips and butt image getting their procedures reversed and dissolved, and the dwindling amount of spaces for children and tween content (shows and media catering to preteens, lack of clothing stores catering to the transition from child to adult, etc) kids mental and physical health are gonna continue to tank more than it already has. ESPECIALLY now that all of that ED content and unrealistic beauty standards isn’t just restricted to a tv screen, its in the palm of your hands constantly, 24/7.

    i have to partially disagree with you. as someone who sees posts from edtwt quite often (despite not being in the community), i think that rather than kpop directly causing eds (which ofc can happen i dont think it happens on a large scale tho), people who already have eds cling to kpop as it is a "great" space to let ur ed evolve into something bigger. ed people are often looking for thinspo, which is often heavily saturated with kpop idols, and that i think can lead them to start being interested in this genre. the fact that kpop is heavily saturated with skinnyness can lead to their eds potentially getting worse. i do agree with you on the fact that kpop has a huge influence on western trends, which probably led to the popularity of being very skinny that we are seeing rn. i do think that asian trends in general influence west more than we think, we can directly see it with makeup trends and i would argue that asian fashion has a lot of influence on western fashion

    Wonyoungism was initially perceived as harmless, but with the creation of toxic accounts, people reported negative experiences, even leading to hospital visits. Despite this, I found value in the concept of self-love and healthy living promoted by wonyoungism. I believe it's alright to indulge in junk food occasionally. My main goal is to lose weight and feel comfortable in my own skin. I currently stand at 5'4" and weigh 77kg, aiming to reach a target of 55kg or 59kg. I'm not concerned about attaining an hourglass figure; I simply want to be happy and confidenfluctuations Although I am only 11 years old, I yearn for happiness and self-acceptance. Someone once mentioned that attaining the things you desire might not bring lasting happiness. Even if I reach my weight goal, I fear that I'll continue to worry about gaining weight. I loathe the idea of living my life consumed by such anxieties.
    However, once I achieve my weight loss objectives, I hope to find contentment and learn not to be overly concerned about gaining a few pounds. After all, it's perfectly normal to experience weight fluctuations.

    I am honestly sorry the People gained weight easily but i can't gained weight easily but have normal heathly and never get diet. Yes there re natural skinny people deserve no bodyshaming at all especially the kpop stans think the idols never done diet because they have muscles and look fit.(i was bodyshaming by my sibling for be slim..)
    As wonyoung stan since 2018 i remember Wonyoung said she have fast metabolism and slow eater since she is kid also i guess she didn't gained faster. IN live she give advice to kids never done diet before 19 yo and always eat much for school
    As ex wizone(izone fanbase)wonyoung was know As biggest eater in izone but stay skinny with long thin legs .Only 2019 she have gained little bit weight but lost 2020 with rigged scandal or other factor.

    Kpop rlly messed me up fr. im gonna be in 10th grade now after summer and have had issues with food since late 7th grade. I compared myself to idols and how my legs were thicker than theirs especially and i went as far as "fasting" when i wasn't loosing enough weight. I thought i was getting better because i started eating more but i realized that in reality its just a restrict, binge, restrict cycle. I don't want to call it an eating disorder because people will throw shit but kpop is the reason I cant look at food normally anymore. Ive been into kpop since 2018 btw and as much as I'm a fan, i wont recommend it to people who don't already know about it because i don't want the same thing to happen to others

    here we go again blaming kpop idols for there bodies and not korean standers and there entertainments. if yall havent been living under a damn rock you would know that These girls and boys are just idols to be shown as perfection they are the stander they are the perfect girl. Dont be shaming them for "Bringing Back Skinny/Ana/Thinspo" This has been going on for years months weeks and now days. The reason why the skinny trend is coming back is because of the beauty standers CELEBS put out and the whole fatphobia thing these comments are ridiculous blaming the idols for giving these unrealistic standers and etc Its not there fault?? Can we please stop blaming the people and start blaming there bosses??? like wtf
    It would be nice to see you not look the same like an npc in every single thumbnail and not only talk bad about kpop groups and idols but maybe talk about other things might make me see you differently for a change

      No one is blaming anyone for their bodies, we're blaming the industry and the beauty standards they bring. A lot of people developed EDs because of Kpop, a lot of people use Kpop idols as a “thinspo”, let's not act like this isn't a thing.

    • @beomkaslana
      @beomkaslana 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Meanwhile i do understand where are you guys coming from, but from my point of view; the entertainment media has always favoring/glamorize skinny models over any other body types, even after the whole body positivity exists, you can't deny the skinny bias is still exist and going pretty much strong.
      Also notice that most people with ED that has body image issues are aiming for skinny body and not the other way around? That alone should've speak volumes.
      I'm really sorry if i sound unsympathetic, skinny people not being included in body positivity does sucks. Because yes, there's people that just naturally unable to gain weights, only to have people reacting with "a small breeze could blew you off!!!" type of crap.
      But seeing how glamorized skinny body is, maybe that's why those body positivity activists are reluctant to include skinny people? Again, I don't condone those activists exclusive behavior at all. But let's just admit it, skinnier body types are way much more favored as a beauty standard around the world, thanks to entertainment industries like Hollywood, modeling, kpop, anime, etc...
      Beauty standard is garbage. Don't pressure yourself to be more skinny/fat to fit a group's standard, your body is merely a vessel, take care of it instead. Just be the best version of yourself and stay healthy, also hydration is very important as well.
      Again, deeply apologize if i went too defensive/unsympathetic here. 🙇🏻

      @@YumeraChauque bye, you know that's not what this is about. Asians want to be underweight and want to be skinny at all costs. It permeates every aspect of society and it is an issue in kpop (kpop idols themselves have said so). Also, everyone did not support the fat and curvy people. Fat people will tell u that the fatphobic comments never stopped irl. Skinny has always been the standard and has been given much support. Just because skinny didn't have preeminence for sometime doesn't mean that it wasn't desired.

    • @YumeraChauque
      @YumeraChauque 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vanillev I know being underweight is not a good thing,but not all world preffer skinny people, I talk from experience, I've always been skinny all my life and people always tell me" you are too skinny, eat more" or "you are just bones and skin,where is the meat"/you are soo flat",etc. That's hurts,and I do not underrate experience of fat people by any means, but when I discovered that in others countrys slim bodies are praised,I became more "happy"(Ikisblt) , and then I start to watch videos on TH-cam, people were saying stuffs like " skinny have always be preffered, etc" I was shocked!! In my country,people LOVE,LOVE curvy bodies, and I don't see that trend shift soon.
