Exactly!! And they won't be looking like AI. I tend to think about the psychological damage follow these trends give, and that's very toxic on the long run. I hope more people choose to enhance what they already have than change it (and look like everybody else, like NPCs 😂)
I'm tired that we prioritize looking "younger". Normalize middle aged faces & may we all be as confidently expressing ourselves as Iris Apfel when we are old.
@@picahudsoniaunflocked5426 true, I just meant that the people wanting to look younger are doing things that have opposite effect, so it's kinda paradoxical
I have always felt the need to make my face less rounded, but when I tried contouring I looked sick and muted. As a teen I dreamed that one day my face will have lost the roundness that I have, but obviously the bone structure is the same as always. So, I could try to change myself to look more adult, but what the point?
Yes! They all want to look like and be Kim, except nobody can ever totally look like or be Kim except Kim. They all look like Great Value versions of Kim.
It’s tragic that women are getting plastic surgery - and other cosmetic procedures - to become her clone. Why can’t we accept our own individuality? Why do we want to look like someone else?
It's esp embarrassing cuz Kim doesn't even look like Kim anymore. She's gone so overboard chasing the standards her family created she looks like an ai generated version of herself.
This will eventually play itself out. People will eventually get bored with this particular look in the same way blonde hair, blue eyes, super tan skin and fake boobs got old. It’s going to shift again, just a matter of time.
I agree! Can’t count how many times I’ve said to myself “I can’t wait until the time people look back at [enter trend] and wonder, what was I thinking?!”
The kpop stans work overtime. With Gen alpha I'm guessing it will shift to Asian K-Drama faces becoming "trendy" (although no race's features should be commodified) it's how I see the tide going.
@@BloodSweatandFearsIt depends on the surgery. Implants can be removed. Permanent fillers can be dissolved. Short-term fillers simply go away. But there are side effects like saggy skin where there was filler or implants. Permanent filler moves around with time. Leakage, toxicity, etc... People may have to have other surgical and non-surgical procedures performed in order to fix the former or to stay on trend. It's ridiculous and exhausting.
maybe that's the current make up trends, i don't know much about make up, but i've seen a lot of people that popular for being pretty using that same bratz make up
I love my naturally pointy arched brows. Years ago, I was at a Comic-con and stopped by the booth of comic book artist Adam Hughes. He said "Excuse me but you have exactly the type of comic book eyebrows I love to draw!" and that is truly one of the best compliments I've ever gotten! He's known for drawing Wonder Woman and Catwoman, so I'm in good company!
Depends...wonder woman and the catlady look "plastic surgered" (the emphasized boobs don't help). And good company? Meh... I'd rather be in the company of Jane Eyre, Marie Curie, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin or Sacagawea.
Thank you for mentioning overlining the cupids bow. I have hated that trend. I have always loved my pointed bow and when I try to “round” it out, it only looks silly. Come on ladies, you aren’t fooling anyone. In person, you can see you have over lined and it looks silly in real life. Your makeup look fabulous today Kelly! I’m 54 and I’ll do my makeup however I like! LOL. (I’m being a tad spunky today)
I saw an employee at mejuri the other day who over lined her defined cupids bow with a liquid lipstick. It looked like the had chocolate on her face after eating a candy bar
A very peaked bow is a sign of youth! Why are we getting rid of it? I make Mine the best “mine but better”. Do the makeup that makes you look like you, whatever that is.
Oh yeah it’s been like that for a long time in period films that don’t do their homework. Like the messy buns in Pride and prejudice 😆 a fashion historian say lots of shows and movies made for younger people are given modern twists so the character is more relatable to the watcher.
I feel like When Calls the Heart really brought in an era of obviously 21st century hair and cosmetics jammed into otherwise decent set and costume design.
I didn’t know that was a thing. Lol I have rosacea and have that naturally. It’s more annoying than cute to me. Because people constantly point it out to me as if I don’t know. Asking if I’m embarrassed.
I saw a pic of Shania Twain the other day and I literally thought it was Kim Kardashian. Megan Fox also has that same look. These women were all beautiful in their own right before, but it seems they all have similar plastic surgeons and use the same fillers and they all end up looking the same now. It makes me sad.
@@deliaholm2653 absolutely she is the OG! My point was she didn’t even look like herself anymore. So many celebs seem to have a generic look now due to the fillers/plastic surgery. I just find it sad that everyone is starting to look the same instead of letting their individual beauty shine.
Feeling that something is always wrong with us is the trick of the beauty industry. As long as we try to fix our face or body shapes, our hair and skin, we sure buy products or procedures, and that makes money for somebody.
Exactly. And it applies to fast fashion as well, now this shirt is out of fashion toss it and buy this . And with slow fashion where everyone wants to were classic all the time in neutrals and 2 accent colours . Some people love colours and Avant Garde others love colours and romantic, or neutral with one or the other style . The illusion of classic and oval or trendy and whatever the results of cosmetic surgery is for them not us . For us it is wear what you love with your feminine intuition and beauty instinct and do what makes you feel balanced regarding makeup, yours not the perfect symmetrical ideal . What assenuate your beauty. Stop hiding perceived flaws . We are not flawed .
So true, and there is a big trend of cosmetic surgeons on social media talking about everyone’s surgeries- even those who haven't had them. They are trying to normalize it, and it brings them more views and more clients.
Thank you. “Instagram face” is the “sad beige baby” of makeup. I miss 2016 makeup: color, glam, etc. All the creators were unique, and the makeup shops (Sephora and Morphe, especially) were so cutting edge in what they did. Now it’s all the same neutral shades, winged eyeliner, overdrawn lips and false eyelashes. It’s so pedestrian.
Maybe we’re thinking of different trends but I remember feeling frustrated with 2016 glam make up. Every single look ended up looking the same - same glittery brown and beige colors, cut crease and fake eyelashes. Lots of baking. I remember feeling the exact same way I do now - everyone looked the same. But that’s kind of the issue with trends I guess. A trend is something most people follow so it may start off fun and fresh, but can quickly become too much
@@uknowho9074same. i dont get the romancisation of 2016 makeup. Everyone looked the same in my old youtube timeline, and now im getting way more experimental and cool makeup looks on pinterest and tiktok. It could just be due to our algorithms.
I’m kinda glad it died down because it was too focused on changing your face and using tons of products. We had to have contour, bronzer, blush, mascara, primer, pore filler, foundation, baking powder, concealer, brow products, highlighter, eyeshadow, plus a million brushes to put it all on. Not to mention every tutorial being so filtered that you couldn’t tell how it looked in natural lighting. Most 2016 makeup looked good in pictures, not in person. I’m grateful we have influencers today who actually show you how products look in person.
Weird because I remembered the 2016 makeup to be mainly neutrals and not very colourful. It probably depends on who you follow, but I follow many makeup Gurus who do colourful makeup and therefore I actually think that todays makeup style is more colourful. Though I do have to say that I find this clean girl makeup boring and hope this trend goes away soon.
Even Naomi does not compare to her younger self. I mean obviously she's older, but she would've aged like a tree; more and more beautiful as time passes. Now she looks inflated and strange, I don't know why anyone is still hiring her
So true. And other celebrities. I watched Sleeping with the Enemy the other night, and Julia Roberts is STUNNING in it and so young at the time that you know she didn’t have anything done to achieve a certain look. Compare that to Michelle Pfeiffer at the time, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Connelly, etc. - everyone unique and beautiful in their own way. Edited to add: I just googled old pictures of some of these celebrities and couldn’t help but think “dang if that were today, someone would be pressuring them to have their buccal fat removed” 😳
Omg yeah, sometimes I will literally think people are the same person, when they are literally different unique people😭😭 it's lowkey so dystopian, same goes for fashion as well.
it makes me sad that many women who decades & centuries ago were considered beauties, in today's world now they would be considered "mid". really proves that if somebody (who's influenced by the same-face trend obviously) calls you ugly then they are wrong, bc the truth is that you were simply born into the wrong decade. i have no problem with the "smartphone face" tbh, i just wish that it wasn't considered to be the current "objective beauty" but instead we'd let other beauty archetypes thrive, so nobody would try to look the same...
OMG...I hate hearing about clothing that is "flattering." Even worse is clothing described as "forgiving." Ugh...I HATE the idea that I need my clothes to forgive me. It's insulting, infantilizing, and sexist.
it really not ...Just be healthy there no such thing has healthy no matter what you eat ,it will always cause problem down the line .I cannot believe the amount of people that think fiber and grain is healthy when we cannot digest it to begin with .
Your makeup today looks gorgeous! It's so refreshing to see something different from "Instagram Face". I have a long, rectangular face, vampire skin with red cheeks, and a pointy Cupid's bow, and there is no way I would ever look like current trends.
I remember my mum telling me how when Jennifer Grey got her nose job, people didn’t know it was her anymore.. she had a selling point which was her unique face but felt the need to change it because of beauty standards, even though she was stunning in her own right.
Yeah that was so sad. It really damaged her career. Then she had another nose job to try and “fix it” I think, but the damage had been done. And it wasn’t a bad nose job! It just erased that adorable face we all knew and loved.
Also, speaking of nose jobs, can you imagine if barbra Streisand had a nose job? No, she would look totally different, right? I love her nose she's beautiful.
No offense, jmho, but I wouldn't call Jennifer Gray stunning. She was mousy and a little cute. She was nowhere near a babe or someone women wanted to copy or aspire to look like. This is coming from someone with a big nose. It sets you apart, but is it really in a good, attractive way. My opinion: I think not.
Jen Phelps talked about this in a recent video. She put bronzer across her nose and cheeks to mimic what the sun would do and said it doesn't make sense to put it in the hollows of the cheeks like everyone does on social media. She also kept her blush above her nose and it changed her entire look. It looked so good on her and balanced out her more oblong face. And on the other hand, boyfriend blush placement looks so good on you and your face shape/features. It's sad that everyone just follows the trends and doesn't do what looks good on their individual face.
I have been doing bronzer across my nose for years and years. I do follow a lot of trends, but I feel like my face doesn't look right until I do bronzer, or at least blush. In the sunkissed sweep across the center.
People using bronzer as contour make me cringe because that's simply not how shadows and colour theory work. Shadows are meant to be cool, and seeing brown contour already drives me nut enough (a subtle grey is a much better fit for contour), bronzer is NOT meant to be used for contour, it's meant to warm the face up with a sunkissed impression! I may have a strong reaction but that's really a makeup pet peeves for me lol
This final look is soo cute! I actually think lower blush placements, brows with arches and makeup that emphasizes rounded facial features as actually make most people look younger
Yeah, people with round faces typically look younger for longer and when someone with a round face leans into those features it makes them look way younger.
i was at work a few weeks ago and an older man told me that he recognized me since i had given him groceries a few days before that and said that i had a unique look about me that he can appreciate. he said that kids these days try to be someone else or look like someone else and he likes to see that i am unique. one of the best compliments i’ve gotten in a while.
I naturally look like what the girls get surgeries for so I’m scared I’m seen as basic or every other girl. I’m trying to spice up my fashion to avoid being accused of following trends or trying to look like everyone else. It’s exhausting
@@streetzomb69You'll still be considered beautiful when their fillers dissolve in the wrong places of their faces, I'm sure you don't look basic ❤️ I kind of felt the same when everyone started working out to get the butt shape I've had my entire life and have felt bad about because in the 00's that was the worst thing about a woman's body :')
I read celebrities posts going i don't like makeup i prefer natural makeup which is fine but the problem is they have extensive cosmetic and plastic surgery. The girl on the podcast claim she doesnt wear makeup and deems it bad for women and how they portray themselves. Wait for it... She was wearing makeup well telling other women and young girls that is harmful.
It's not only the make up. So many stars but also TH-camrs have the same hair cut/ hair style. Long wavy glossy hair with middle parting. I am 46 years old and I find it so boring to see all the clones 😉.
I’m so glad we’re talking about it and getting back to more individual looks! I have had quite a few non-invasive cosmetic treatments- little bit of filler to even out my lips, Botox, and lasers to get rid of sun damage. For my first consultation the doctor asked me to bring pictures of myself at younger ages up until now, not celebrities I wanted to emulate. I thought it was weird. It’s because she wants me to look like the best version of myself, not everyone else. I love that approach and am so happy with my results. I’m 50 and no one is going to think I’m 30 but I do think I look like the best version of my 50 year old self.
My eyes are very downturned and I have been doing a lifted winged liner almost every day since 8th grade (I’m 31 now). This just convinced me to experiment with a downturned liner! It truly looks so cute on you and so natural
i love downturned eyes and the "puppydog" liner trend! its just so flattering and cute! i remember back when i was in high school my music teacher had downturned eyes and would always wear this heavy blue liner esp at the bottom corner of her eyes and i always thought it was so beautiful ❤❤❤
I honestly think that sometimes accentuating our "flaws" makes us so beautiful! By flaws - i mean what media tells you are flaws. Our features can never be flaws! It's like having a beauty mark/ mole and rather than try to cover it with makeup we define it even more with a pen! As for me, i have somewhat thicker bushy brows. Back in the early 2000s as a teen i would pluck them into tadpoles but then the trend shifted and after more than a decade of overplucking it took literal years to get my brows back 😂 i now let no one else touch them and barely touch them myself. I like my carerpillars now 😄😄
I have been getting back into old school makeup books that teach how to emphasize your uniqueness rather than blend in, specifically Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin and it’s been so much fun!!
The problem is that a lot of celebs use the same surgeons, dermatologists and aestheticians that push the same procedures because they’re both popular and expensive, hence more money they make off pushing their services. The believe beauty is a formula, it’s about blending in and being associated with people of a certain status and lifestyle. Also, it’s funny because a lot of Bridgerton fans were commenting about Luke (who plays Colin) looking like he was on ozempic which being skinny during regency era (historically) meant that you were eating a restricted diet and was common for the poor, and now we associate being skinny/lean with being rich.
Thanks for saying that makeup should be playful. It's true. I get so serious about where I'm putting the stuff and there's no fun in that. I want to have fun!
You are such a breath of fresh air! Yes to loving and enhancing one's unique features. As someone with a pointy cupid's bow, I've always loved extenuating it. It's feels classically glamorous!
“Not everything needs to be flattering to have value” LOVE!! As someone who embraces my very fair skin, and loves wearing bagging more flowy clothes, I love this sentiment ❤❤
I find it wild how social media spwnt years bashing anyone that didnt look like a Kardashian (as you say, the differences were treated like flaws) and now that they got what they wanted and everyone looks the same they are panicking because theres nothing left to single out and shame. Time for a new look i guess.😊
Hey Kelly, I had this topic of this in my sociology class this year with the same piece. We went into how new technological advances give a new look to people and it has become more common because it’s less risky and less invasive (compared to year ago when plastic surgery had a negative connotation)! My old pediatrician offers Botox and lip filler now in her practice now! I love how you mixed it up with makeup, I appreciate your content!! 💕
Kelly, the moment near the end of the video after you finished your lipstick and look in the mirror...and smiled! ✨That's the moment! You saw yourself looking like YOU! And that's the point. You look beautiful and you look like YOU! Our differences are what make us beautiful...such a great video topic. Enjoy your day and continue to embrace the things that make you, YOU! 💜
Your make up looked great! I have a major issue that I'd like you to address. Why is a tan considered healthy looking? We are spending billions on fake tanning products yet we've been taught not to judge a person based on skin color. Shouldn't that apply to ourselves? I'm very fair, ok, strawberry blonde with freckles, but I get asked if I've ever tried a tanning bed quite frequently. Just as smoking was associated with being cool, having a tan is supposed to be better/healthier looking than white skin. Why? Real tanning leads to skin cancer. Why do we have to subscribe to such an outdated standard view of beauty? In previous times, tanning meant you were common and had to work outside. Carrying an umbrella to avoid exposure to the sun was quite accepted. Who sets these so called standards and how can we get them stopped. Natural tanning is as unhealthy as smoking! We were not encouraged to smoke fake cigarettes? So why are we encouraging fake tans?
I've read that it started when rich people started taking vacations to warmer places and then the idea of summer vacations trickling down to the middle class. So tans for white people became associated not with working out in the fields, but instead status and leisure. And now with desk jobs and screens, I think even when it's fake it might give the illusion of someone who spends time outside, working out (since tans also emphasize muscle a lil more) And then I think the ig face makeup is pretty intense and looks more blended on tan/medium skin. But totally agree that more diversity should be celebrated- Nicola Coughlin bas super fair skin and it's beautiful!
Tan skin is perceived as being healthy because, typically, people who do a lot of outdoor activities have tans. People equate outdoor activities with physical health and or wealth. For example, if you've spent time in San Tropez, you'll typically have a beautiful bronze glow because you've been outside enjoying the weather and the lovely activities. Still, if you are an office worker, you will appear paler, which points out your status. It is true that in East Asian and other cultures where people are darker naturally, people don't want to be tan because they don't want to perceived as field workers.I lived in Thailand for two years, and every time I went in for a massage, they asked me if I wanted a skin-lightening treatments.
I think in part it depends where you live. I'm in a state that has a lot of bad weather (extreme humid heat, thunderstorms, tornadoes), so people don't spend much of their free time outside. I get compliments on my pale skin. But my friends from places like California and Florida feel self conscious when they haven't tanned, because they always got bullied for being pale. So I guess if you're somewhere beachy, people associate the tan with wealth and health, but if you're somewhere with horrid weather where the upper class stays inside, the tan has a negative connotation instead.
I was going to write a long thoughtful comment and I accidentally refreshed and lost all my typing 🤦♀ ...so I'll just say thank you Kelly for bringing this up!
In all this rush to be first using the latest 'trend', I think people have forgotten that make-up was invented to make us look better....so it really looks best to place it where it suits your face, colours that suit your skintone, and styles that suit what you are doing (we use different make-up colour, style, levels of layers, etc depending on if we are going to work, going out shopping, going to a party, going to a wedding, etc....)
Very cute! Love the eyeliner, blush placement and defined Cupid’s bow. Even before the clean girl look, there was the instagram brow/cut crease trend that everyone had. In real life I do see a variety of looks, no makeup, colorful, only eye makeup and foundation etc. I never figured out bronzer/contour or highlighter so I just don’t do it, same with filling out my brows even though their sparse lol
I love highlighter but could never do contour bronzer omg. I think it's probably better for pictures or maybe nightclubs Its noticable as make up and isn't the point of it to not look like make up and look like contour. I love using colorful eyeshadow lately. The results are a bit much lmao but I just love color. I Keep going back to green and purple of all colors lol. I'll sometimes use light foundation but usually just don't put anything in my face except a bit of blush
@@alisonmercer5946 Alison is my niece’s name and one of my fav bands 😀. I don’t have high cheekbones to figure out contour lol. My go to colors are pink and purple and I tend to go for either heavy blush or focus on the eyes. I also tend to do 1 color (shimmer, glitter and/or matte) but that’s because my blending is bad lol.
I feel like parallel to seasonal colour analysis, I have been loving the resurgence of Kibbe body types and kitchener essences. Maybe they are good because they are old systems that embrace dressing for your body type with your personal style. They often use older celebrities as examples, maybe because of the diversity that is now lacking.
I know! Learning about Kibbe body types helped me soooo much. I was finally able to accept my own type of beauty instead of constantly looking at my flaws/what I was missing.
I feel like the Kibbe system is particularly useful to change our view on ourselves. Instead of labelling individual body parts as "wrong" or "ugly" it educates us to see the whole picture the way other people do and use it to your advantage. When it comes to personal style, knowledge really is power.
We need to go back, to pre 1970s with clothing...again It was the 50s-60s Which were great 40s shoulder pads are a no Id love, if someone brought back the 1920s cliche hat And 1940s cuban heels
I just want to thank your mom or friends or whoever gave you the scaffold for this strong sense of self. I absolutely admire that you are willing to question trends, to do something “unflattering” or to try looks that might deviate at all from the current insta-face. You’re having fun, and, I love that you said you feel cute! Yes! Makeup is art, it’s play, it can be an everyday uniform, but it’s ours and we should perhaps think about taking back some confidence and control in how WE feel pretty, versus how we’re “supposed” to look. Well done!
You look so cool with that look. It’s giving old-school beauty. A lot of character and very youthful. I find it hilarious how these celebrities try to look younger yet with their hollowed out cheeks they look a decade older minimum. I feel like a lot of the conditioning comes from seeing these faces everywhere without any comparison to what else could be considered beautiful. The moment I put them next to classic actresses and models they look terrifying and unattractive. Unfortunately I think there is no reset button and we will not go back, as a society. But as an individual, each one of us that feels like it can rebel a little. I think that’s really cool to own up to your natural features.
I love the idea of emphasizing natural parts of us. The first time I heard someone talk about it was when I saw a video from Jenny Mustard saying she wanted to emphasize her broad shoulders with boxy blazers or shoulder pads. It was a very novel idea to me to not want to « correct » a part of my body. I’m not against emphasizing the roundness of my face now! And I love that you embrace your features as they are, it also makes me want to embrace mine, as I also have lips on the thinner side, with a very pronounced cupids bow.
Wow! This is such a refreshing perspective! I love this makeup on you. I totally agree that part of what makes a person standout and look beautiful are the little unique features. I am going to try this for myself -and work with my natural features.
I feel like we start with different faces and then get insecure and do all these “tweakments.” Then everyone looks like the same person with too much work!
I feel like you look more fresh-faced ("younger") with this style than the other pic you put up for comparison. I really like this one. I agree with your thoughts of everyone looking the same. I found out some years ago that less is more for me. Every time i tried to match the style everyone else was doing of extremely glam, I thought I looked like a drag-queen, lol. So yeah, I like to play with makeup, but at the end of the day a more calm glam works best for me, or even the more natural/less is more look. 💚
I love this video so much! I've always loved blush on the apples of my cheeks. But the trend is so against emphasizing plumpness in the front of the face because "I have to lift." I've caught myself holding back on blush placement because of what it will look like to others, and it makes me sad thinking about it. I'm happy to see this conversation being had because beauty has never been one-dimensional. Seeing other women embrace themselves and not fall into the trends of staying youthful has inspired me to look at myself in a new light. Being 30 doesn't make me old, and if my face starts to sag and wrinkles start to show, I can also find the beauty in that. There's beauty in all stages of life. We should stop living in denial and embrace what makes us unique.
you said everything i had in my mind for the last couple of years out loud. natural unique beauty has to be back, it's so sick we want to get rid of everything that makes us ourselves I'm going to start doing my makeup more unique
I love the finished look! Im so tired of all these trends in makeup and fashion. It's all part of consumerism and overconsumption. I predict that once everyone gets tired of the snatched look we'll swing in the opposite direction into a "cuter" look. All trends are a reaction to the previous trends at this point lol. In an ideal world, we would be able to look up our different features and learn how to emphasize or deemphasize them instead of trying to make everyone look the same.
I've never seen your videos before but that comparison you did to your face is crazy, you have to do your makeup like this form now on cause you look so much classical romantic!
Everything u said is so true!!!!!!! Ive always thought about all these topics for some time, especially about the lifting techniques and things being "flattering"
I don't usually comment but this video was such an eyeopener for me! I love the way you talk about the subject and I honestly LOVE the way your makeup turned out, especially comparing it to another makeup look you've done! It really emphasizes your features and I will definitely start playing around more with my makeup. Thank you so much for highlighting this, it's so important especially since I believe most beauty trends, and always trying to reach a certain "face-look", is very damaging to peoples selfe image, particularly for children.
Love this! It looks great on you. Kackie had a similar video yesterday but about colors. You don’t have to stick to just warm or cool tones based on what looks “better” on your skin tone. We can have fun with it and wear what we want! I love that y’all are getting away from the trends.
Great video I love your takes. I think a lot about the lifted and foxy looks taking over Instagram for the last 3ish years, and how those looks just can’t apply to everyone. Thank you for bringing this conversation forward!
carrie bradshaw is also such a good example to use for doing makeup techniques for YOUR features. the first thing i noticed is she have very prominent cheekbones and cheeks on the hollow side so blush placed higher up would really emphasize that feature. the boyfriend blush looks so good on round faces because it emphasizes and thus complements the roundness so well. i think you’re right on the money in saying that we should be emphasizing all our own individuality and uniqueness instead of trying to alter our features to fit one mold
It’s interesting what you were saying about lifting the face and how that relates with the illusion of age, because I feel like it’s now almost the opposite - where someone who lifts their face too much through makeup/filler/surgery may actually end up looking older, as previously it was an older demographic who sought to affect their appearance like that. An overly-exaggerated lifting effect makes it seem like the person is TRYING to compensate or ‘look young’, which may only end up having the opposite effect, if that makes sense?
I’m 55. I do my makeup to accentuate the features I want, or hide the ones I don’t. I don’t care about trends for myself, but I do enjoy seeing them. I enjoy your videos because you make me think about makeup in a different way.
I have a nearly nonexistent Cupid’s bow, but I have always envied Rihanna’s!! I think they’re so unique and gorgeous! This video is so refreshing and inspiring. I have natural freckles and never cover them with makeup 🩷
Amazing video! It’s really good to see that we’re basically made to think that we are ugly and have to change our features to fit the standard. It’s very empowering to embrace our own beauty and features (and have people that support us), to feel pretty as we are. Thank you so much! 😄
I love this video & the message. Thank you for leaning into individual beauty-and emphasizing how it’s important for each person to know what works for them. Not just follow the trend of the moment to be like everybody else. I have said this before but god bless your (very beautiful) normal, human looking face. It is so refreshing to see an beauty creator not slowly morph into a Kardashian over time. Would love to see more videos similar to this.
Hi! I really liked your video, i have a lot of features that would probably be tweaked such as small lips, cupids bow, thin eyebrows and your theme of keeping your makeup natural to accentuate your features was touching and refreshing to see. Nowadays my feed consists of similar makeup looks and appearances and it was nice to see that someone is bold enough to break away from the trends. Your makeup looked amazing 🩷
My eyes don’t turn down but I have enough of a hood that makes winged eyeliner really hard to apply. I realized that if I downturn my eyeliner slightly it looks so much better than if I try to draw upward.
This was such a thoughtful provoking video topic because a previous video by the channel UnBlah Yourself touched base on unique makeup is gone. (Or something similar) That really made me more aware of how much has changed regarding beauty, beauty trends, and overall makeup products. There is no uniqueness, there is no being different anymore, there is no more of us as individuals we are all turning into look-a-like robots. It's shameful how we can't appreciate each other's features as they are and embrace them as such.
This look is so cute! 💖 I literally had this conversation at work the three days ago! Lamenting how “samey” everyone is looking. I really love everyone’s unique faces, I hope we can all learn to embrace ours and everyone’s 💖
Kelly, I've always liked that you kept your lips with your pointed Cupid bow and never did a lot of over lining. once I heard you say your skin is naturally dry so you still like powder and going slightly matte. I also like that you don't overdraw/reshape your brows. I love your slightly downturned eyes, they are absolutely gorgeous. I've always been impressed that you stay on top of trends and keep up with things, but you don't completely change your features, and therefore you look like you! 😍
I looove my downturned eyes! I feel like a 1920s silent film star. Especially when I do a dark lip (mine are on the thinner side too). Love this vid, Kelly 🍀 x
You look like you're an 18 year old in your "normal" daily makeup, and like a proper adult in the makeup you tried today. I know that sounds strange but it's meant as a huge compliment! You look like an individual and you look stunning!
New to your channel as it was recommended by Jen, loved the discussion today. I am older (73) and I remember the days when women would try to make certain features stand out vs all being the same. Makes me want to try different blush placement and explore my eyebrows they’re horrible 😮 and realize I have to rethink shape and look 👀 Thanks ❤
This video was so refreshing! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes my hooded eyes and round face, when every makeup "tip" is telling me how to camouflage them. It's nice to see makeup used to enhance natural features instead. And it looks beautiful!
Thank you for this, it’s so easy to get caught up in trends and also to be sold on the idea that there’s a best face out there we should all be aiming for, when in reality everyone I know in my own life looks different from this and are still happy and quite beautiful. If we’re happy with what we have and who we are we don’t buy as much, and that’s bad for the shareholders but good for the rest of us that would profit more from being content and not feeling like we’re missing out on looking like a media star 💫
i love how nuanced your contributions to these conversations are!! i also have been trying to incorporate the idea of not doing everything to “look flattering” and i especially love how you worded it that things don’t have to be flattering to have value. love this!
I took the Dear Peachy makeup quiz a few months back and i have been doing the techniques they recommended to compliment my features. Im glad that i let go of trying to do the insta baddie and whatever else makeup look thats trending because they NEVER looked right on me. Turns out i fall into the elegant/romantic makeup archetype, and changing my makeup to match that has been a game changer in my confidence 👏🏾 These popular looks are never one size fits all and that’s perfectly okay 💕
I definitely seeing everything telling you how to snatch your face. I have a small nose and an oval face which are the “beauty standard” in some places but I used to be really insecure about it and looked up, “how to make your nose look bigger” and “how to make face look shorter,” and I was always met with results on how to have a more oval face and how to have a smaller nose but there were no resources for how to use makeup to accentuate my nose
I really like Alexandra Anele’s channel in part because she’s all about talking how different face shapes and different makeup goals impact how and where you use makeup.
To me boyfriend blush is on the apple of the cheeks which use to be the go to application and that I never stopped doing because I absolutely love blush and it seemed that most natural and flattering.
I remember once in my drawing class, my doctor said that “you kids these days do genuinely look very similar… same brows, eyes and hair and kind of lack some sloppiness and individuality” he said that cuz he gave us a task to draw each other’s in order to learn the face structure and how to draw it and homeboy is so real for that

I feel like people look a lot younger when they follow their natural features than when they try to "correct" them
When people have the same faces, it's like...the music and movies are garbage today, unless vetted
I've been thinking everyone was Kim Kardashian for years.
@@andystacey5552it’s sad because she was actually pretty before her major procedures; she erased all her Armenian features and looks like a bot.
@@pimmspimms5462 it's their own decision
This will eventually play itself out. People will eventually get bored with this particular look in the same way blonde hair, blue eyes, super tan skin and fake boobs got old. It’s going to shift again, just a matter of time.
I agree! Can’t count how many times I’ve said to myself “I can’t wait until the time people look back at [enter trend] and wonder, what was I thinking?!”
The kpop stans work overtime. With Gen alpha I'm guessing it will shift to Asian K-Drama faces becoming "trendy" (although no race's features should be commodified) it's how I see the tide going.
I hope so! Otherwise we women are on a track to becoming slaves to plastic surgery and Kim Kardashian clones.
And everyone who went through surgery will be stuck with it.
Everyone has the Bratz Doll Face.
is that supposed to be a bad thing ? lol i’m confused
idk what the point of this video is either
no one is killing anyone so it’s not deep
I think it's more of barbie if she had a face lift for the white girls, but the black influencers definitely all look like Bratz dolls
Every white girl looks like they could be blasian these days
its So weird !!
maybe that's the current make up trends, i don't know much about make up, but i've seen a lot of people that popular for being pretty using that same bratz make up
I love my naturally pointy arched brows.
😑
That's so cool!
Depends...wonder woman and the catlady look "plastic surgered" (the emphasized boobs don't help). And good company? Meh... I'd rather be in the company of Jane Eyre, Marie Curie, Ella Fitzgerald, Janis Joplin or Sacagawea.
How lovely!! That would live in my brain rent free for the rest of my life if I received a compliment like that ❤
i’m a guy and i have a female friend who shaves their pointy part of their brow off, it looks kinda funny
Same!! My filtrum is also clearly peaked, so rounding out the cupids bow area looks wonky on me.
I saw an employee at mejuri the other day who over lined her defined cupids bow with a liquid lipstick. It looked like the had chocolate on her face after eating a candy bar
A very peaked bow is a sign of youth! Why are we getting rid of it? I make
Mine the best “mine but better”. Do the makeup that makes you look like you, whatever that is.
I have never understood this one. Ever. The Cupids bow is so pretty!!!!

Wow my 24yr old daughter just made this comment while we were watching a period film. She said her face was too “modern” to fit in the time period
Which film if u dont mind me asking? Ive been noticing this as well lately.
Bridgerton has this problem
Oh yeah it’s been like that for a long time in period films that don’t do their homework. Like the messy buns in Pride and prejudice 😆 a fashion historian say lots of shows and movies made for younger people are given modern twists so the character is more relatable to the watcher.
I feel like When Calls the Heart really brought in an era of obviously 21st century hair and cosmetics jammed into otherwise decent set and costume design.

I saw a pic of Shania Twain the other day and I literally thought it was Kim Kardashian. Megan Fox also has that same look. These women were all beautiful in their own right before, but it seems they all have similar plastic surgeons and use the same fillers and they all end up looking the same now. It makes me sad.
tbf I think Shania is the OG in this case 😊 she rocked the high cheek bones back in the 1990s, before Kim had her first nose job 🤣
@@deliaholm2653 absolutely she is the OG! My point was she didn’t even look like herself anymore. So many celebs seem to have a generic look now due to the fillers/plastic surgery. I just find it sad that everyone is starting to look the same instead of letting their individual beauty shine.
I also have seen recent pictures of Beyonce and I didn't believe it was her. Thought she was a Kardashian

Feeling that something is always wrong with us is the trick of the beauty industry. As long as we try to fix our face or body shapes, our hair and skin, we sure buy products or procedures, and that makes money for somebody.
This right here 👏👏👏👏👏
I hope people will start using colors in their makeup again, like less beige and more vibrant colours.
The OG supermodels of the 80s were all unique in their beauty: Cindy, Naomi, Linda, Christy, Elle, Brooke, Kate, Paulina, Tatjana, etc. i miss that
Even Naomi does not compare to her younger self. I mean obviously she's older, but she would've aged like a tree; more and more beautiful as time passes. Now she looks inflated and strange, I don't know why anyone is still hiring her
Yes and don't forget the south asian beauty yasmeen ghauri 🎉 😍
I read recently that Janice Dickinson was tellin women in their 30s to get a mini face lift. SMH. She’s h. Lot of work done and looks horrible now.
Today also models are unique even more unique than the 90s and the 80s but the people are obsessed with 5 girls only and doesn’t see other models
Omg yeah, sometimes I will literally think people are the same person, when they are literally different unique people😭😭 it's lowkey so dystopian, same goes for fashion as well.
totally dystopian
Shania Twain is a good example of this. She doesn't look recognizable at all
Just a bunch of NPCs at this point 😭😭
I actually think you look younger with this makeup that enhances your natural features! It fits you so well!
agreed, she looks so youthful and it's all very subtle at the same time!
it makes me sad that many women who decades & centuries ago were considered beauties, in today's world now they would be considered "mid". really proves that if somebody (who's influenced by the same-face trend obviously) calls you ugly then they are wrong, bc the truth is that you were simply born into the wrong decade. i have no problem with the "smartphone face" tbh, i just wish that it wasn't considered to be the current "objective beauty" but instead we'd let other beauty archetypes thrive, so nobody would try to look the same...
Stephanie Lange, another awesome youtuber, had a video on this exact topic - "you're not ugly,jm just born in the wrong era" - that is SO TRUE.
OMG...I hate hearing about clothing that is "flattering." Even worse is clothing described as "forgiving." Ugh...I HATE the idea that I need my clothes to forgive me. It's insulting, infantilizing, and sexist.
I never thought about how awful "forgiving" clothing actually is.

Your makeup today looks gorgeous! It's so refreshing to see something different from "Instagram Face". I have a long, rectangular face, vampire skin with red cheeks, and a pointy Cupid's bow, and there is no way I would ever look like current trends.
Idk why people hate their cupids bow? And like it's such a pretty name?😭😭
Demi Moore's nose in st Elmo's fire was gorgeous in a similar way
Jen Phelps talked about this in a recent video.
When its used as contour, its usually for more color, aka "warmer". I feel like that was obvious@@unrulycrow6299

I read celebrities posts going i don't like makeup i prefer natural makeup which is fine but the problem is they have extensive cosmetic and plastic surgery. Most older celebrities have a side part and straight hair
I’m 50 and no one is going to think I’m 30 but I do think I look like the best version of my 50 year old self.
i love this! she sounds like a good dr.
I like my carerpillars now 😄😄
i have been doing "boyfriend blush" not knowing it for years 😅 i love it on my box face shape😁
I have been, too. I have a somewhat long and angular face, and I never liked higher blush placement, it always felt too severe on me.
same cuz i have a round face
I think this is your best make-up look yet- we all look so beautiful highlighting and embracing our features

I find it wild how social media spwnt years bashing anyone that didnt look like a Kardashian (as you say, the differences were treated like flaws) and now that they got what they wanted and everyone looks the same they are panicking because theres nothing left to single out and shame.

You said you aren't sure about boyfriend blush on your own face but I think you really rock the lower blush placement! Such a pretty look ❤

I would love to see you try 1920s makeup, I think it would really suit you!

“Not everything has to be flattering to have value” 💥💥💥
We should stop living in denial and embrace what makes us unique.
you said everything i had in my mind for the last couple of years out loud. natural unique beauty has to be back, it's so sick we want to get rid of everything that makes us ourselves
I'm going to start doing my makeup more unique
I think boyfriend blush looks great on you!!
Boyfriend blush🤔
The ones who laugh in the end are the marketing folks 🤣 all these names for things that already exist 😂
I think the same thing! Anytime a trend comes up and it's just a rebranded trend from a previous decade. It's hilarious
It’s giving a 1920s look and I love it!!
You are an example that on someone pretty everythink looks pretty ❤❤❤
Your makeup makes you look so angelic!!! I Agree its soo cutee, like the eyeliner is so fitting, love. Itt❤❤❤
I have natural freckles and never cover them with makeup 🩷
omg you’ve convinced me to shop the hello kitty x kitsch collab i was stopping myself but the clips are so CUTE
Not everything needs to be flattering to have value - LOVE this Kelly 🙌💖
Okay this is awesome because I tend to follow Asian beauty makeup trends sometimes. You've done everything I usually do and it looks so good!
Loved the downturned eyeliner and the lippies ❤ really emphasised your natural beauty
Honestly I like the way you did your eyeliner in this better than an upturned wing! It enhances your beautiful eyes and looks so natural 😍
New to your channel as it was recommended by Jen, loved the discussion today. I am older (73) and I remember the days when women would try to make certain features stand out vs all being the same. Makes me want to try different blush placement and explore my eyebrows they’re horrible 😮 and realize I have to rethink shape and look 👀
Thanks ❤
This video was so refreshing! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who actually likes my hooded eyes and round face, when every makeup "tip" is telling me how to camouflage them. It's nice to see makeup used to enhance natural features instead. And it looks beautiful!
What a fantastic idea for a video! Love it, Kelly.
Really loving Makeup Musings! ❤️
i love how nuanced your contributions to these conversations are!! i also have been trying to incorporate the idea of not doing everything to “look flattering” and i especially love how you worded it that things don’t have to be flattering to have value.
You are so pretty.Your final make up look, was softer on you, than the more fashionable make up.
Lighter tones come forward visually, so maybe a slightly lighter concealer on your nose? But I think small noses are awesome.
This is the first vid I’ve seen of you but compared to this pic 16:32 I like this look a lot more. The finished result is so pretty!
I remember once in my drawing class, my doctor said that “you kids these days do genuinely look very similar… same brows, eyes and hair and kind of lack some sloppiness and individuality” he said that cuz he gave us a task to draw each other’s in order to learn the face structure and how to draw it and homeboy is so real for that
What was your doctor doing in your drawing class?
Write a poem about oranges
This video was exciting to watch !!!! Seeing someone do makeup that isn’t how everyone does it nowadays. I loved this video !!!!!!!!! 💖💖💖💖
I LOVE this makeup look!!
