    In the 20th century it happend two concecutive times that a scandal-ridden, unruly first born prince (Albert Victor and Edward VIII) somehow dissappeared form the scene, and an unwilling, unexpecting second born son became a great king who lead the kingdom through really turbulent times (George V and George VI). God must really love the British Monarchy.

    The media should reflect reality. Edward VIII's dereliction of duty caused the worst moment in the history of Britain's monarchy since Charles I was beheaded in 1649. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia, have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, the monarchy is an important one. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a stable constitutional monarchy that is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace. There will always be violence in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of monarchy. The British monarchy is a huge, tangible power for peace and stability for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world.
    Of course the Queen & Prince Philip had their failings as parents. Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the service George VI, Elizabeth II & Philip gave (in contrast to Edward VIII), and for the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in everybody's lives. The value of the British crown since the 1700s is, many billions of people have lived under it without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives.

    It must have been absolutely traumatic for the Royal family, and Elizabeth II grew up in the aftermath of it all. Sadly, it is what prevents her from abdicating today.
    However, abdication does not automatically mean abdication of duty; it can mean simply retirement due infirmity and old age.
    This is what the monarchies of the Netherlands, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium and Japan have understood - perhaps Britain will too.
    2023 , the 70th anniversary of her coronation, would be the perfect opportunity.

    Mrs. Simpson did us all a favour. His abdication was a blessing. We were well rid of this weak ingrate devoid of the duty that his brother showed by his example of selflessness. Sadly Harry now demonstrates the same traits as Edward a disgrace to The Queen, his family and the county.

    • @kevinadams9468
      @kevinadams9468 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In fairness, the House of Windsor is sad, highly in-bred ruling house, replete with 'ingrates' and selfish monarchs, and only able to produce responsible monarch at great intervals, such as Queen Victoria and the reigning Queen Elizabeth. Windsor's men are singularly poor specimens of royal aptitude. House of Windsor is a Billionaire's Club that has outlived its usefulness. An Emperor or Empress without an empire is no better than a cleaning lady, but in this case they believe they are special because the UK taxpayers have to finance their lifestyles. They should be expropriated to the benefit of the general fund of the UK.

      No they didn’t. After he had done such a monumental thing as to abdicate and with her name so openly synonymous with that decision, she had no choice but to stay with him, even though the status, wealth and title that most likely spurred her interests in the first place was snatched from her reach. She had to spend the next 36 years with a man who she found weak, feeble, contemptible and docile, she hated every minute of it. He spent the next 36 years being publicly humiliated by the duchess who never failed to let her contempt show. Apparently for those that knew him, it was embarrassing to witness, a one time King, be berated and humiliated and lose every thread of very little dignity he may have managed to salvage after his abdication.

      They did not, she never loved him. She emasculated him and treated him poorly, cheating on him many times over. While he lay dying in their house, she didn't even visit him in his bed. The nurse said she held him in her arms as he called out for Wallis over and over. She never came. Thats what she thought about him. In the end, at the funeral she is quoted as saying "He gave up so much, for so little" pointing at herself, and she was absolutely right. It's not the love story you would like to believe it is sadly.

She was charmed by him certainly but mainly by the social life and being seen with him. she really still loved Ernest and was trapped by the King as he declared he could not live without her and she missed her chance to get away. she craved the stability of life with Ernest, yes it would not have been as exciting but steady and secure. To this day the story continues to fascinate people. It seemed to be a romantic story but was actually much much darker when you really delve deep.

      No, he didn’t. They were both miserable. She openly had affairs to humiliate him and refused to go to his bedside as he cried out for her while he was dying. Research is your friend and will spare you from embarrassing yourself with foolish false comments.

      Actually yes she would have...just later than she did...because he had no heirs...so it would have went to his next relative which means his brothers oldest child

      She probably would but much later as Edward didn't have Male Children so after her Father George VI died she took over the throne. George was king for only 15 years as his health was Fragile for a very long time so eventually she would be queen if he had lived longer but this was not to be so the Abdication certainly shuffled the Royal deck of Cards so to speak.

    He should never have abdicated!
    Interesting how Charles is king now with Camilla’s husband still alive, I wonder if he would have been accepted if the late great Dianna was still here? There are infinite paths that can lead to who is the Sovereign head.
