I have been doing those downspout straps for 25 years it helps to distinguish between your work and others and it is a much cleaner look had a customer call me back and say how are my downspouts going to stay on the house without straps lol merryman gutters on Yelp and you can see some of my work
Measure from the face of the facia board to the back of where "B" (side shot) elbow will sit and minus 6". For "A" (face shot) elbows, measure from face of facia to the siding wall and minus 5"". That will give you length of the neck.
We use the same screws as we use for hangers, and put a tiny downspout shaving in the drilled out hole. If you want to see how it's done, we have a video that you can check out!
Straight pipe straps work the best :) So does round outlets work better adjustable left and right. :) An I also hope you made a diverter flange on the left top end cap so the water don't run along the wall to the bottom gutter
I aint gonna roast u on shit bro bro, ur a damn wizard when it comes to gutters. I loved that video of u telling how the This old house guy was doing the gutters different then u, 😆 🤣 😂 😹 and that facia was so warped 😆 🤣 😂
We measure the whole downspout in 2 measurements. One is for the neck and other is diagonal one (in this case from top B to Lower A). For the neck if its 26” we will minus 6” and call it 20” with two Bs. And for the diagonal one, If its total of 112”, I will minus 5” from it and call my helper to make a 20”/107” with Bs to the right and an A elbow at end. And we use factory made straps here in Cananda.
I subtract 8” for A-A and 4” for B-B. Measure at the same place for both. I don’t do 2x3 downs. So idk if that’s why your measurement is different than mine, and idk the last time I measured for a long section. That’s a waste of time.
@ we do -8” for A-A, -6” for B-B if we are doing 2x2s. We always did 2x3s and Round ones. I got to work with 2x2s recently and learnt that you need to minus more inches for them. It also depends on the suppliers too. We mostly use Kaycan here in British Columbia. It feels great to see another fellow tradesman doing it same way. Good Luck!
Your clip idea Is brilliant I just done it and everyone in my family said looks so much better than a strap... thanks for the idea...
you bet!

Your hat got you a follow. Great work too.

Great video, thanks.
What types of screw can we use for the brick wall?
We use the same screws as we use for hangers, and put a tiny downspout shaving in the drilled out hole. If you want to see how it's done, we have a video that you can check out!
Could you talk about downspout offsets? For example a one inch offset , which can not be done with fittings. Thank you

Where did u get the shear snips?
Do you price the downspout footage differently than the gutter?
I don’t. I just add 15ft for every single story downspout and 25ft for every 2 story down.
What’s the tool to cut the X in the gutter?
Malco punch
@StartARainGutterBusiness do you have a video showing how to do the X hole by hand?

Thank you 😊 can’t seem to find a 3x3 punch anywhere
I have a 3x3 punch I got from a friend

I also prefer to use 3”x3” for everything is there a reason why you use 2x3?
I only use 3x4. No use in using anything smaller
Ever try cutting the downspout with a circular saw?
Just tried this yesterday, worked surprisingly well. Just go slow.
I cannot find curves anywhere, ive been to every store.
Is that someone's house? Holy shit!
Nice ladder 🪜 work!!
