    Here’s a handy shortcut for building your returns/crossovers: measure horizontally from the back edge of your punch to the wall (or if you’re using B’s, to the center of your downspout location where you screw your clips in) and subtract 6” if you’re using A’s or 5” for B’s, and you’ve got the length of downspout you need to cut! That way you can build the whole return before you screw it to the punch.
    Another handy shortcut for measuring the downspout (if it’s a single-stick downspout) is to attach your bottom elbow to the stick first, the set it against the wall next to your installed return with your bottom elbow on the ground. Mark your stick where it lines up with the bottom edge of the return’s elbow (I just mark it with a hacksaw) and make your cut: when you slide it up over the crimp and screw it in, your downspout will be raised off the ground the perfect amount!

      This is for 3x4s and is exactly what I do. I also only put in two straps; eye and knee level. If it's tight to the wall up top and the bottom can't move, it won't go anywhere. Works at least up to 60' in my experience

    Haven't seen duct cutters in a long minute, I build mine on the ground 100% around entire perimeter of job. Start with mounting my lower strap first, stand my downspout up, install upper strap and finally install starting at the outlet down.

    Awesome info! We're a couple weeks in with our gutter business here in Northern Utah. Starting to feel the benefits and see the rewards of all our hard work. Your videos have been crucial! Would love to see a video showing tricks and tips using straps. We had a bid accepted on an older home that will require them. I've had some experience, but would love to see your take on it. Thanks! Keep the videos coming

    Love the videos. Have you ever thought about getting an elbow machine for custom angles?

    What brand of double bladed snips do you use to cut the down spouts?
    When I see a new one of these videos it makes my day.

      We really appreciate that James!!
      We put links to all the tools we use in the description of our videos, see if you can find what your looking for in there!
      Now that we got the solo gutter installation up for you, what are you dying to learn next??

      @Start A Rain Gutter Business I’d love to see half round gutter installation, how it’s done, idea on prices etc. I’m wondering if it’s worth it. We have a decent amount in my area

    Measure from the edge of the house to the outside edge of the fascia and subtract 4 or 5. That gives you the right length.

    Have you ever seen an elbow leak from the seam? For example, on the second elbow from your gutter where the seam is pointing downward?

    • @gorillaman08zx
      @gorillaman08zx 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, when they get clogged, they can back up and leak out the downspout

    I noticed that you didn't use a cup after you punched the hole for for you DS. Does just using the tabs that the punch tool makes sufficient?
    Again, thanks so much for your vids guys!

    I notice n my area most elbows and downspouts are 3x3, is there any benefit to 2x3? I feel 3x3 would be easier so you don’t need a or b just makes inventory easier

    I just bought my first home but it’s gutterless. I can’t afford a professional right now. Should I use self tapping screws or rivets ?

    • @wannabewriter
      @wannabewriter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rivets last longer and they're a cleaner install if you do it right, but if you're installing without a gutter machine, you won't be able to make the gutters seamless, so it will only be a matter of time until they start leaking and not working properly.

    Nice clean install. I was wondering if you’ve done the math on how many downspouts required for the slop of the roof and roof area for 6” k-style with 3x4 downspouts. I have been installing a downspout a minimum of every 30ft for 6” k-style from what I’ve researched a 3x4 downspout can emit approximately 440 gallons of water a minute. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

      @itzfettykrill1632 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      with a 6in gutter and 3x4 spout you can get away with up to one spout per 40ft of gutter, ive had to install a single spout on a few over 40 and never had issues

    • @itzfettykrill1632
      @itzfettykrill1632 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      a 2x3 spout will handle draining a 5in gutter with one spout every 30 ft, so with 6in and 3x4 you can definitely get away with more

    Why not make your crossover before you go up the ladder?

  • @dennismarkakis1478
    @dennismarkakis1478 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This isnt how to do downspouts. Here's the right way: Measure from the wall to the fascia and take off 6 inches. Thats your overhang. Then Measure from the fascia to the ground and take off 1ft 6 inches. That's your downspout length. Put it all together on the ground then hang it.
    *For an AB overhang, Measure from the fascia to the center of where the downspout will be and take off 4 inches.

    I've been a Lic Gutter Installer since 1977 / this guy makes the downspout look pretty hard and confusing / I do not even use a tape when putting up a downspout / EVERY INSTALLER has their own way of installing anything / he shows putting in a screw into a block wall / not to bad / but I like to add caulking to this step so it will never come out.
