    Thank you so much for this! I am painting an accessory building and can't afford to hire gutter professionals, or even replace the existing one. Removing it without doing serious damage is a huge win for me atm. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Thank you for this. It helped me understand why the removal of my gutters was SO LOUD, the banging was shaking inside the house. Now I see it was from kicking the gutters off but it's okay because the wood can take it. Thank you.

    I have to drop and reinstall a small 12ft section of gutter to rebuild fascia and brick rack. I wasn't sure if it was going to be easier off a ladder or the roof and this seems to tell me everything. Also wasnt sure if a slide hammer was going to be necessary...i guess these old nails don't really give you as much trouble as I thought. I've been a finish carpenter for over 12 yrs, pretty comfortable around most job sites and yet never removed or installed gutters hahaha.

    what's a good way to separate an outside corner without damaging the gutter because I am going to re-use the gutter , what is a good way to get through that gutter seal ...... Heatgun ??? cut it ???? I was thinking maybe an oscillating tool to cut through the glue or a heat gun maybe to loosen it up and scrape off ..... I've separated them before "by hand tools" and I'm looking for "THE EASY WAY !!!!" lol

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You just gotta get up there and do what you think is best. No advice here other than use the tools you got.
      Heat gun seems excessive. Use an exacto knife to cut the seal and pull the miter off.
      Replace the miter and keep the gutter.
      If they are spike and ferrule gutters like in the video REPLACE THE GUTTER

      @@chappellgutter thanks , and yes that's the method I have used in the past , cutting with a knife , but some of that sealant is tough to cut ..... anyway thank you , I appreciate the response

    would the hammer and pry bar method work if I don't plan to be on the roof? I plan to be on a ladder.

  • @fireofenergy

    Thanks for making me dizzy 😬
    I see that the roof approach is faster, though.
    Thanks!
    I should've known to use a flat pry bar. I'll figure out how to use a ladder or two which will kinda get in the way. I've bumped ladders slightly, side to side, for painting around them, so a few inches forward shouldn't be much different.

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Might not be a bad idea to get some ladder stabilizers to set yourself away from the gutters a few inches so you can nock them free :D

    Get yourself a pair of end cutting pliers for $12 on Amz. Working from a stable ladder, grab under the head of the nail with pliers, twist and pull and it comes right out.

    are those type of gutters salvageable?

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup take them to the scrap yard

    • @BibleSamurai
      @BibleSamurai ปีที่แล้ว

      no i meant is there a way to keep them. Im getting my roof replaced and roofer says those type of gutters cant be removed and reattached without being damaged@@chappellgutter

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  ปีที่แล้ว

      I mean technically they can be but it almost never turns out good. I do not recommend it as it can cause major water damage issues by installing old gutters
      It's also untrue that the gutters have to come off to install a new roof BUT it is recommended for the long-term sake of your home.
      Simply put, the overall best thing for the majority of homes is to replace the roof and gutters simultaneously.
      I know everyone's financial situations are different but it is the underlying best thing for a home.

    What a good price to charge per foot for removal?

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It honestly depends on what your overhead is. It's it's just you, no shop expenses, no payroll expenses etc. You could charge $0.50 - $1 per foot and make out alright. (Pricing can also change on where you live and the cost of living).
      This was 400 ft of gutter and it took me and Shara (it was her first time) about 3 hours to complete the full tear-off + loading everything up and cleaning up.
      We then took the metal to the scrap yard and made just under $100.

    Don't you get worried about damaging people's houses or plants just dropping them

    • @chappellgutter
      @chappellgutter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You definitely have to be selective of dropping or carrying the gutter down. It's not a good idea to drop in flower beds or on sentimental plants. . In this case there was foliage all around the home and in some areas we walked gutter down. In this case all the plants below were strong and nothing was hurt during the process.
      As far as hurting the house, as long as you have someone below you putting pressure on the gutter pulling it away from the home you will be just fine. I've never damaged a house or received a complaint about plants being hurt from taking down a gutter.
